Flevus

Hi, you might be right. Here is the link in English. But:

• Pliny does not seem to use the term Lacus Flevus himself. This term apparently comes from Mela.
• Flevus is mentioned as a fort on the Ocean by Tacitus also, which is today I believe equated to Felsen. Maybe the ancient Ij sometimes connected the North Sea and the Lakes?

I notice some writers equate the link from Rhine to Flevus with the "Fossa Drusiana", which Drusus made to connect the Rhine to the Ijssel so that he could get to the Lakes. But would this be considered a mouth of the Rhine? For example would something so far inland be considered to be making everything west of it an "island" (which is what Pliny says)? Maybe another possibility is some ancient equivalent to the Vecht (Utrecht). Anyway, concerning the Holland article I am not sure this needs to be discussed. Currently we only seem to have any discussion of it in the Marsacii article. It probably should be discussed elsewhere such as Rhine–Meuse–Scheldt delta.--Andrew Lancaster (talk) 07:36, 6 July 2013 (UTC)

Yes it is a bit of a messy mystery. It is not made easy by all the conflicting understandings of sources that have become mixed with the original sources. So I have tried to represent the several possibilities that I can find:

• Ij (into the ocean via the lakes),
• Vliet (into the ocean via the lakes),
• Vecht (mouth would then be in the lake),
• Ijssel (mouth would then be in the lake).

Personally I find the Ijssel and Vliet a bit hard to believe in, because those would make strangely defined "islands", especially given Flevus was a freshwater lake, and also I think we have no source for calling the Ijssel the Flevus. Indeed we know it had another name. So I think a combination of the Vecht and Ij makes more sense, both clearly being connected to places called Flevus, and reasonably close to each other and the Rhine. Maritime borders in the Caribbean Sea

Hello

Do you remember this ? well, after a year of research, I finally drew all existing borders in the Caribbean Sea (you can see it here). The map is in Spanish because it is my native spoken language, but it can be easily translated to another language (apart many sources are in English).

Now I have a question for you, what should we do with this map ? it's currently being used as reference map to the borders of the Netherlands in the Caribbean Sea, but has a bad title. I think is best to rename it "marine borders of the Netherlands in the Caribbean".

It was originally my idea that the map I created would be amended to include more maritime boundaries, but I have not had the time myself and your map includes the whole Caribbean. So yes, my map now basically only displays the Dutch situation and is used as such, so I will request it to be renamed and I will add a link to your map. Maybe the best traslation is "Coordenada de cambio de límite marítimo internacional" = "Change of maritime international boundary". That legend refers to the change of international boundaries (as if they were boundary markers of tripoints in land borders). No, it's the end point of the boundary defined by the treaty. The term "change" means that from this point it's the beginning of a new frontier with another country. Maybe I should also change the term in Spanish, by what I see --Shadowxfox (talk) 04:02, 21 April 2014 (UTC)

the Kingdom Euler diagram

He Thayts, I have been thinking about the euler diagram of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, and think it can be made a bit more consistent. Now it has "European Netherlands" as text, containing all provinces, and the "special municipalities (BES islands)" (containing all special municipalities). Why not use European Netherlands and Caribbean Netherlands (BES Islands), or Provinces (European Netherlands) and special municipalities (BES Islands). Now in one of the two the administrative form is mentioned, in the other it's not... Any thoughts? L.tak (talk) 20:09, 1 September 2015 (UTC)

Euler diagram of the Kingdom of the Netherlands.

Hi Thayts, I found an error in the Euler diagram mentioned above. There is no official entity which is called "Holland", although many people abroad call our country Holland. So the provinces of North Holland and South Holland should not be united into Holland. I think this is a severe mistake, therefore I have removed the diagram. Please notify me on my talk page if you have further questions, I do not edit here at a daily basis. I hope you can change the diagram into a correct version. Hey @L.tak and Ellywa: I only found this a nice representation and after finding the image at the Netherlands page I decided to put it on the Kingdom of the Netherlands page as well. Both "Special municipalities" and "European Netherlands" are correct in my eyes, but I agree it may be better to use "Provinces" for the latter to be more consistent. I do think that "Special municipalities" and "Provinces" covers the subject better than "Caribbean Netherlands" and "European Netherlands", although it depends on what you want to tell (i.e. emphasising policital entities or geographic location). I agree that there is no official political entity called "Holland", but the same is true for the regions "European Netherlands", "Dutch Caribbean", "ABC islands", etc. I think the creator just wanted to show that the region Holland is only a part of the Netherlands. By the way, the real political entities are accompanied by flags. Do what you want to do, maybe discuss this with the creator of the image too. Hey guys, original author here. I agree with L.tak's comment, I have uploaded a new version with this corrected. I also agree with Thayts' comment. I included Holland as a region, just like several others. Wikipedia is very consistent with using Holland for the region (at least the Dutch and English ones, some other Wikipedias aren't as consistent) so this is not a mistake. Specifying what provinces and special municipalities are would also require specifying what the countries are within the Kingdom (we like consistency, after all), which would make the diagram look very cluttered. Hi ULanguageGeek, If Wikipedia is consistent at all... in this case it is wrong. Holland has been an old province, with slightly different borders then the current North-Holland and South-Holland. Moldova

If you Google, there are about 30 reliable sources that say Moldova's medal has been stripped and just your one that still lists it (but even that doesn't explicitly say it wasn't stripped, it doesn't say anything about it.) @Xaris333: Hi there! I think the basis you need is what I've put at el:Module:ΕλληνικήΕτικέττα/sandbox. You must define the function as p.getLabel or it won't be callable, and the arguments are passed in a so-called "frame table" where you can pull the ID from. @PPP: Ah, so you do have references, but why haven't you added them to Benelux after reverting my edit then? Of course, English is one of the languages that is spoken by a large part of the Dutch population, but when can you call it a "main language"? English is used in Dutch universities and offices of multinationals, but that's because they have to do with international people. And this is the case in other countries as well. Still, the main language used by Dutch people at something like a marketplace or a hospital is Dutch (i.e. in everyday life). Thayts ••• 08:54, 15 September 2018 (UTC)

One question

Hello I am a user of Persian Wikipedia and I have translated parts of the article and had a question about the 2019 Turkish offensive into north-eastern Syria article. See Background and Deaths toll for Turkey border regions north of Syria Jan. 2018 - Sep. 2019, before 9 Oct. The 2019 offensive is said: It is not known if this activity is or not related to Syria's YPG and SDF, or from Turkey or Iraqi PKK.
