Greek and Cypriot media coverage

edit

Hello TheArchon,

I am writing a thesis on Croatia's candidacy to join the EU as seen by the various European media. As I see that you are a native Greek speaker interested in history I was wondering if you would consider helping me. Needless to say, I don't speak Greek. However, I think it would be a shame if my thesis were to reflect only the views and topics covered in the countries such as Austria, Britain, France, Germany, the Netherlands etc (in short, the countries whose languages I understand). Therefore, I would like to include a section on Greek and Cypriot media in my thesis. I am not only interested in Croatia's candidacy, but also in the wider subjects people associate with the EU. I left a more detailed list on my discussion page.

I will be more than grateful if you could leave me just a link to a Greek or Cypriot newspaper article that deals with any of the above subjects with a short summary such as for example: "XY is opposed to Turkey's membership because of the unresolved Cyprus issue" or "the membership of Croatia is bad because the constitutional treaty has been rejected in France and the Netherlands" or "party X is critical to Greece's membership in the eurozone because of..." Also any other information is appreciated.

I will be sending this message to several other native Greek speakers. Also if you know a Wikipedian who could help me, please let me know. Of course, if you're not interested, please accept my apologies and feel free to erase the message. Thank you for your time. PGradStudent 11:26, 10 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

Hello TheArchon. Thank you so much for the links to the Greek newspapers. I have more than sufficient information to compile the Greece (and also Cyprus) section of the thesis. I am grateful for your time and effort. PGradStudent 16:13, 14 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

thanks for the thanks

Archon, thanks for the thanks on the Second language article. I appreciate that. There is much still to do, but it's a start. Can I ask a favor? I'm working on the History of the Acadians and only yesterday I found on the Greek language site of the Acadians a GIF map of Acadia in 1757. I haven't seen that map before. Unfortunately, I'm using a very O L D computer at home and I can't navigate my way through the the Greek page very well. Would you be able to upload that to the wikicommons on Acadia or put it up on the History of the Acadians page? Much appreciated if you can. Here is the GIF map on the Greek site, but I think my computer is going to mess up the language. Εικ?να:Acadie 1757.gifDDD DDD 10:20, 23 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

Hi, about the fire of Smyrna article

edit

I am writting to you in particular not for specific reason other than landing by accident on a Greeko-Turkish conflict related article talk page by checking Kertenkelebek contribution log and having seen you answering him. I am quite mad at Greek contributors right now, because I have myself my share of to do lists than to have to clean articles which should already be on Greek contributors to do list. The Fire of Smyrna article is full of original research, interpretation, and now deleting of informations which I added myself, after checking, it was Kertenkelebek who deleted them(the reason why I checked his contribution log and found you).

The Smyrna article in the past was effectivally supressed by a redirect and its content deletion, had I not pointed to that, it would have probably remained deleted. Cretanforever while I disagree with his contributions there, still is workable with as he doesn't delete informations and is open to reasoning, so perhaps he could be the Turk with who you guys have to discuss with, I don>,t know how you will deal with the article or who you will find, I will not take part in another heated conflict, I will gladly help by providing references. Now, the restructuration Kertenkelebek did has to be dealt with as well as reintroducing the deletions he performed. Regards Fad (ix) 22:07, 12 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

I was unclear, I did not accuse you of having done something wrong, but rather Greek contributors to not have done anything to protect the intergrity of the article. Clearly most peer reviewed publications place the blame on the nationalist forces (Kemalists), but wait a little more and you'll see the article currently on Wikipedia to say the complete opposit. Hi, thanks for the encouraging words, I hope we can have a good article on these issues without too much nationalistic debates. That part of our history is very important to us. That may be a reason for some of our friends' heated arguments. Cheers --Gokhan 08:03, 20 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

Dance capitalization

edit

I noticed that you listed yourself as a linguist. There is currently a dispute at the Lindy Hop article the Dance WikiProject about the capitalization of dances that could use the expertise of a linguist. If you think you might be able to help, we would certainly appreciate your comments. Thanks! --Cswrye 05:28, 25 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

Unreferenced BLPs

edit

Hello TheArchon! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot alerting you that 1 of the articles that you created is tagged as an Unreferenced Biography of a Living Person. The biographies of living persons policy requires that all personal or potentially controversial information be sourced. In addition, to ensure verifiability, all biographies should be based on reliable sources. If you were to bring this article up to standards, it would greatly help us with the current 475 article backlog. Once the article is adequately referenced, please remove the {{unreferencedBLP}} tag. Here is the article:

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Proposed deletion of Stylianos Kalfelis

edit

The article Stylianos Kalfelis has been proposed for deletion because it appears to have no references. Under Wikipedia policy, this biography of a living person will be deleted after seven days unless it has at least one reference to a reliable source that directly supports material in the article.

If you created the article, please don't be offended. Instead, consider improving the article. For help on inserting references, see Referencing for beginners, or ask at the help desk. Once you have provided at least one reliable source, you may remove the {{prod blp/dated}} tag. Please do not remove the tag unless the article is sourced. If you cannot provide such a source within seven days, the article may be deleted, but you can request that it be undeleted when you are ready to add one.
