Visitation behavior
editMy gut feeling is that you would want RefBot to initially act on articles that have been tagged with either an "invitation" template or one of the "references needed" templates. Further, RefBot will either need to remember where it has gone or drop a non-obvious tag (one that casual vandals won't take much notice of) on visited pages. --User:Ceyockey (talk to me) 01:51, 10 August 2007 (UTC)
- It would ideally go for all new pages. It would keep track by simply watching new pages live using the IRC feed. Matt/TheFearow (Talk) (Contribs) (Bot) 02:08, 10 August 2007 (UTC)
- I looked at the three 'sources' it found for Bill Gates. One was a very short news story. One was a list of world's richest men. Only the third one had any potential. Still, 1 out of 3 is not bad for a bot. Of the other links, it is quite funny that it found www.billgatesisdead.com. I wonder what the bot would find for George W. Bush? My gut feeling is that this might help for obscure articles, but humans will still be able to get better results starting from scratch rather than using the bot's results. ie. the final set of links (to search engine results) will be the most useful. Check out Template:Search and Category:Search templates. I proposed to include such a search string with each AfD post. See Template:Search (copied from here). -- Jreferee (Talk) 08:14, 12 August 2007 (UTC)
- Just a note - that was not the bot finding things, simply me doing the searches and picking the first few results, as the bot would be programmed to do. I agree this would help more to articles that are more obscure - maybe I could run it only for stubs, articles with notability tags, and articles on AfD? - Also, I noticed - a list of the worlds richest men could be used as a source - there is no such thing as over searching, and it might also be of use on other articles of very rich people. Matt/TheFearow (Talk) (Contribs) (Bot) 10:26, 12 August 2007 (UTC)
- And another note - maybe I could add the search templates as well - or maybe if it doesn't find many results? Matt/TheFearow (Talk) (Contribs) (Bot) 10:27, 12 August 2007 (UTC)
