DYK guidelines query

theleekycauldron, before you consolidated all of the DYK guidelines, the supplemental page included the following as D10: If an article contradicts an existing article, the contradiction should be resolved one way or the other before the article is approved. I don't see any equivalent language in the current guidelines.

I've just run into a DYK nomination where the new article—and the hook from it—has some major factual contradictions with a previously existing article. I do note the previous D10 text in my comment, because I remembered it, but was wondering whether there was a consensus that it be dropped. My objections do still stand without invoking D10, but I think it's a good principle and was wondering why it was dropped—and whether it can be reintroduced.

There's no rush on this; I know you're on wikibreak. Please let me know when you get the chance. Many thanks, and greetings of the season. BlueMoonset (talk) 17:43, 25 December 2023 (UTC)

Hi, BlueMoonset! my thought was mostly that the objection stands without DYK needing to explicitly maintain its own guideline – if someone really tries to wikilawyer on that one, you can always stick {{contradicts other}} on the page and cite the WP:DISPUTETAG rule. We can restore it, but I do prefer to keep the rules as slim as possible so that when other guidelines change, we don't have to change with 'em. Season's greetings to you as well, it's been a lovely year working with you :) theleekycauldron (talk • she/her) 00:44, 28 December 2023 (UTC)
Thanks, theleekycauldron. I've actually never run into {{contradicts other}} before; thanks for the tip! It looks quite useful, and makes sense to have as a general principle. I don't know that we still need it explicitly listed—as you note, tagged articles shouldn't be approved, which puts the onus on the nominator to deal with the discrepancy. If contradicting starts happening a lot, we can reconsider an explicit inclusion. BlueMoonset (talk) 02:11, 28 December 2023 (UTC)

Happy New Year!

  Happy New Year!
Hello Theleekycauldron:

Did you know ... that back in 1885, Wikipedia editors wrote Good Articles with axes, hammers and chisels?

Thank you for your contributions to this encyclopedia using 21st century technology. I hope you don't get any unnecessary blisters.

Hi! I'm doing good! I've been kind of busy this year plus afc kind of hogged up a lot of my wikitime but I'm trying to do more enjoyable stuff again. I'm (oddly) excited for 2024, not exactly sure why though. How are you? BuySomeApples (talk) 05:46, 1 January 2024 (UTC)
I've been... you know, pretty great! Probably the best time off from school I've ever had. First time in a while that I'm dreading going back so much. theleekycauldron (talk • she/her) 10:04, 5 January 2024 (UTC)

Hi Leek!

Hey, hope you're having a good new year! I made a little list of unusual anniversaries (kind of like WP:UNUSUAL and WP:OTD combined) on my userpage. If you have any interest in contributing to it, I'd be very honored! I'm not quite sure what the purpose of the page is yet; I just figured that if *I* find it interesting, others might too. Well, I'll be! Maybe I have an idea or two :) theleekycauldron (talk • she/her) 10:04, 5 January 2024 (UTC)

Ping didn't work

Hello. Just a heads up, for some reason this ping didn't work – I only just spotted it scrolling through the more recent comments. Not sure if you want to try again to get the attention of the others. Cheers, Number 57 14:03, 11 January 2024 (UTC)
