Hi there! I'd like to be the first to post on your talk page and welcome you to Wikipedia. I couldn't help but notice that your user page mentions that you're planning on majoring in medicine and journalism, and I welcome that news. One of the reasons that "bad science" gains traction is that scientific research is generally poorly communicated to the public. There is a shortage of knowledgeable scientists who write for mainstream audiences, and many of the journalists who do write on the topic lack the background to properly analyze the nuts and bolts of scientific research. The result, as you are no doubt well aware, is a lot of shallow, exaggerated, tabloid-style reporting; you know the kind..."new study shows that soda crackers cure cancer"...based on an uncontrolled study in 3 rats done by a quack-for-hire from Soda Crackers, Inc. It may sell magazines, but it has a dumbing-down effect. Anyhow, just want to say that I look forward to your contributions here and have no doubt that your presence will be an asset to Wikipedia. If I can ever be of any assistance in showing you the ropes, just drop by to my talk page. Cheers! Rhode Island Red (talk) 19:40, 3 December 2011 (UTC)
Hey Rhys, welcome to Wikipedia. While you are here, you may want to check out Wikipedia:WikiProject Rational Skepticism. If you find any "fringe" claims while on Wikipedia, feel free to report them to the fringe theories noticeboard. —Tom Morris (talk) 21:07, 3 December 2011 (UTC)
Drat, I wanted to be the first to welcome you to Wikipedia. May this be the start of a long and fruitful editorship! If you have any questions, drop a note on my talkpage. BrainyBabe (talk) 22:10, 3 December 2011 (UTC)
- Sorry BrainyBabe. I'll sleep in tomorrow and let you have first dibs on everything related to Rhystianity (my neologism of the day) :). Rhode Island Red (talk) 00:20, 4 December 2011 (UTC)
Also chiming in to welcome you to the project. Edison (talk) 19:59, 7 December 2011 (UTC)
Image Permission
editHi Welshboyo. As you may have noticed I uploaded your Twitter picture for inclusion in your bio, with your permission, but someone tagged it[1] as having insufficient evidence of copyright clearance, and explicit permission is need from you to use it (i.e., either "a link to a webpage with an explicit permission" or an email from the copyright owner is sent or forwarded to permissions-en@wikimedia.org"). You can find more details here. Let me know if you have any questions. Sorry for the hassle, but copyright policy is not my forte, as you can see. Rhode Island Red (talk) 00:33, 4 December 2011 (UTC)
- No problem. Send me a "request" for clearance from the contact form on my website http://rhysmorgan.co so that you can forward it on. If, understandably, you'd rather not make your email address public, I'll go ahead and send the email myself Thewelshboyo (talk) 00:47, 4 December 2011 (UTC)
