This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a search with the contents of 1973 in Irish television, and it appears to be very similar to another Wikipedia page: 1971 in Irish television. It is possible that you have accidentally duplicated contents, or made an error while creating the page— you might want to look at the pages and see if that is the case. If you are intentionally trying to rename an article, please see Help:Moving a page for instructions on how to do this without copying and pasting. If you are trying to move or copy content from one article to a different one, please see Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia and be sure you have acknowledged the duplication of material in an edit summary to preserve attribution history.
It is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article. CorenSearchBot (talk) 18:59, 1 January 2012 (UTC)
- That's because I created them both, and at the time this message arrived, 1973 in Irish television consisted of one sentence (an introduction) and was a work in progress. But it's all fixed now. Paul MacDermott (talk) 22:48, 1 January 2012 (UTC)

The article Tony Blair (disambiguation) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
- per WP:RELATED, WP:NAMB, none of these entities could be referred to by a single title, they are simply related topics. Delete as unnecessary and unused disambiguation page
While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Exok (talk) 15:48, 4 January 2012 (UTC)

I found this on sale at eBay in the US. Since the letter was written in 1988, I don't believe we can use it as a free use file, but I saved it in WebCite because it's the first time I've seen mention of this in connection with Corinthian Records. It does give us some additional insight into how Corinthian did its distribution, etc. We hope (talk) 21:23, 26 January 2012 (UTC)
- Jo Stafford & Gordon MacRae - Yesterday - The Definitive Duo NEW RELEASE as of 18 November 2011. :-) We hope (talk) 22:01, 26 January 2012 (UTC)
- Not sure re: letters either but think it would work because it's been published, or made public, as a result of the eBay auction. Have now used WebCite for an archived copy of the auction, so the publication of it can be seen. Thought this would be good for a possible future Corinthian article ;-) Let me know when you need a cover for the new compilation album, OK ? We hope (talk) 19:37, 27 January 2012 (UTC)
- There was another compilation album issued last year- Jo Sings for You. Listed but no Allmusic rating. They apparently haven't gotten to listing and/or rating the compilation album with Gordon MacRae yet. We hope (talk) 19:46, 27 January 2012 (UTC)
OK-my "contribution" to the cause was to add them both to the template and add collapsible tables to the list. We hope (talk) 21:05, 27 January 2012 (UTC)
- Ah, but I've had to watch myself carefully this time. Have had to do a lot of IP banning at a message board as the spambots have been out in force for at least two weeks now. So I'm almost a "bot" in numbers and dots for that right now. BTW--There's another compilation album she did with Frankie Laine I don't see we have listed. Will look it up later to see if Allmusic rated it and if so, it could then go on its own page. ;-) We hope (talk) 21:15, 27 January 2012 (UTC)
- Will have a look for it later and add links for it here. ;-) We hope (talk) 21:32, 27 January 2012 (UTC)
Duet album
Here's the Amazon link for the Jo Stafford/Frankie Laine duets album which was released in 1994. It didn't get reviewed at Allmusic, so think it has to go on the list page. Have done the table for it:

Before I got to looking for this, I stumbled on a lot of old radio and television magazines that seem to be in PD (not renewed). Need to check them re: use of photos. Haven't yet been able to go over them all, but there's quite a bit of information in them on Jo and many other performers. The performers often gave interviews to these magazines since they were highly read at the time. One story on Jo has her telling in her own words how her Dad sometimes took her to work with him when he was in the California oil fields. There's information on how she really didn't care for New York and had wanted to return to California for some time before she was actually able to, some early information, and so on. If these check out as PD not renewed, we will probably have more photos as well as a lot more information. I need to check their status and continue reading what's there. ;-) We hope (talk) 16:21, 28 January 2012 (UTC)
- Great!! The "problem", if you will, re: the magazines, is that there is simply just so much information in them on so many people! Am finding old radio shows with cast photos and so on. There's information on Como we didn't have before, including a pic of him on the golf course. These magazines also had some "local" pages featuring people who worked on local radio and television. While paging through, I found an article on a guy who did the local weather here for many years. (Retired now, as he's either in or close to his 90s.) While I knew he started in Oklahoma, I didn't know he had been featured in one of these magazines many, many years ago. One pic shows him with two of his 4 kids. The youngest son (who wasn't even born yet when the story was done), also went into broadcasting. Will spare the kids the "embarrassment" since all four of them as tots aren't shown, and upload the photo of their Dad doing the weather. :-) We hope (talk) 19:01, 28 January 2012 (UTC)
- The only way I think I can do this and keep part of my sanity is to take a magazine at a time, check it for copyright renewal, take images and then work with the pages for the persons in the articles. :) We hope (talk) 17:47, 29 January 2012 (UTC)

- I dont know if you care to get involved but my newest article on Casey Kearney has been put up for possible deletion in a week on the basis of NOTNEWS. - This continued front page coverage of the Casey Kearney murder is a indication of continued coverage beyond the "murder and arrest of suspect" part of the investigation. Even though I respect other users opinions I have to say that I am surprised that the trend never stops on AfDs. Now its on again, lets delete a article based on a current news story on the grounds that there is no indication of lasting long term notability (after 4 days this time). I find that reasoning to be offensive to put it lightly.--BabbaQ (talk) 20:05, 17 February 2012 (UTC)

IP Vandal...again
Hi there again Paul, I have been continuing to monitor the majority of edits made by our old friend 81.109.92.88. I feel this guy is either dedicating his life to messing up Wikipedia in his own little way or he is just plain stupid. I don't get it because not all of his edits are bad or incorrect but the majority continue to be very perculiar, for instance just editing sentence's to make them complicated, adding incorrect infomation, dumbing down or just adding irrelevant statements. For example on the Grimsby Town F.C. page in a statement that the club have played in the top 5 league's in the country, he said "before Northampton Town" meaning his assuming Northampton will be relegated this season, other edits are mainly made on Coach Trip, some of his work on here is valid but yet he makes a sub section called "Arrival day locations yet to be starting from in future series" with a statement underneath saying "The following arrival day locations have yet to be starting from for other first destinations", then there was a small table of locations, all unsourced so I have removed it. Other edits are like adding "More 4 + 2" as a timeshift to More 4 and various other random edits usually on TV related articles. I have never been able to get any sort of reply out of this user, what do you suggest we do? He has already had 3 or 4 bans on all of his IP accounts. Kind Regards Footballgy (talk) 16:08, 3 March 2012 (UTC)
- Hi Paul, thanks for the reply, and thanks for bringing that to my attention, Very interesting. I will keep you informed on any devlopments. I've also added the sock tags to all the known previous IP's I have had problems with. Footballgy (talk) 02:41, 4 March 2012 (UTC)

Re:IP vandal
Hi Paul, this seems to be a real deep routed problem. With something that began with a simple I.D dumbing down football related article's amongst others it seems to have turned into a monster, not forgetting numerous puppet I.P's. The pattern of the edits look similar to our friend however I am just waiting to see edits made to Coach Trip before I would be 100% on that, although he is back editing 2012 in British television. Have you linked him to the GMTV Chart Show page? I think maybe a sock puppet investigation maybe the only option we can swing to, but if he is switching his I.P everytime he is blocked how could it prevent him from returning? Regards Footballgy (talk) 13:10, 7 March 2012 (UTC)
The article Paul Connolly (journalist) has been proposed for deletion because, under Wikipedia policy, all newly created biographies of living persons must have at least one reference to a reliable source that directly supports material in the article.
If you created the article, please don't be offended. Instead, consider improving the article. For help on inserting references, see Referencing for beginners, or ask at the help desk. Once you have provided at least one reliable source, you may remove the {{prod blp}} tag. Please do not remove the tag unless the article is sourced. If you cannot provide such a source within ten days, the article may be deleted, but you can request that it be undeleted when you are ready to add one. MathewTownsend (talk) 20:02, 8 March 2012 (UTC)
Got another one ;-)
Well, if we can't help out our friends, what are we? :-) Having done some work with the backlog of unreferenced BLPs, know what a headache it can be at times and why the enforcement. (Don't think anyone can imagine something like that backlog happening again.) May not know the names, etc. as well as the ones here, but think if you thump away at Google enough, you can usually find something that fits. We hope (talk) 20:24, 8 March 2012 (UTC)
- You're lucky you got that as I got the big pitch to subscribe or "no show"! :-) We hope (talk) 21:34, 8 March 2012 (UTC)
- If you're able to view it, why not put the url you have through WebCite and that will make it clickable for everybody? We hope (talk) 21:43, 8 March 2012 (UTC)
When I try for the link at the Irish Times "Fiddling the System", I'm told that the article is no longer available-removed from back issues, but can be viewed if you sign up for (free) Pressdisplay.com. When I clicked the link you left on my talk page, I got Google.ie search results. If you can get a link for the article, WebCite is very easy-just give a valid e-mail addy and the link you want to archive. We hope (talk) 22:22, 8 March 2012 (UTC)
- Not sure if links to tinypic are blacklisted here but if not, you might have a try at uploading your screencap to it. Have used tinypic for hosting images in other places where it wasn't possible for the image to be directly uploaded (some message board size constraints, etc.). Know that if the screencap is still a BMP, it will need to be converted to JPG in order to upload it at tinypic. On the Irish Times site, I can't even ask for a link without being told I need a subscription. (British Pharmacoepia won't let me in either, because I'm not in the UK and not in a developing nation, so it may have something to do with one's IP number.) We hope (talk) 23:11, 8 March 2012 (UTC)
- That works so it must not be blacklisted.;-) My understanding of your broadcasting system is that at one time, it was non-commercial, government operated, and everyone paid a license fee for their radios and televisions. Since those fees were at least part of what paid to keep everything on the air, those who were outside of the country would be thought of as "not paying their share", thus no use. Here the government only deals with broadcasting rules and regulations. Can't imagine what we would have seen if they actually produced programs, but know it wouldn't have been anything like Upstairs, Downstairs, and so on. If there had been a Happy Days at all, there probably would have been episodes like "Good citizen Howard Cunningham does his income tax". :-) We hope (talk) 00:04, 9 March 2012 (UTC)
- New one works fine ;-) We hope (talk) 00:06, 9 March 2012 (UTC)
Re:License fees, think of it as infomercial insurance. ;-) Some of the worst of the bunch are those of local auto dealers. There was a dealership in this area where the two owners always stood side by side as they promoted their place. They weren't related, but since they seemed to be "one unit" when they were on camera, we started a rumor that they were really Siamese twins, joined at the hip from birth. Soon the pair made new commercials that pointedly showed them on opposite sides of the screen and each in some solo shots. :-) We hope (talk) 03:01, 9 March 2012 (UTC)
- Just had a look at it in IE and the deal is-it takes a moment or two to come into focus for clarity. Not sure why, but it does clear and is easily read. There looks to be an index to the Irish Times you can access if you know where to find it; backed into one for the Chicago Tribune some time ago. With that one, if you know the date the story was printed, you can look it up on their index for that day. You can look it up in Google News Archive and not need to do their pay-per-view if you use the index. ;-)
- While there were some areas of the US who had cable for years because of reception problems, when it was pitched to those without that problem, their "big sell" was that one would pay X amount of money per month and not be bothered with commercials on cable. The subscriber was said to be paying part of the costs, therefore it wasn't necessary for cable to have commercials. I think you can guess how long that lasted--and their rates never do anything except go up either. :-) One of the ones that gets to me is a dishwasher detergent ad where the scenario is a Star Trek/Star Wars setup with a similar flight deck. They're watching the dishwasher's workings on a screen when an alarm sounds (greasy/baked on dish issue). The crew goes into scramble mode until they see the detergent being used is the "right" one. Those who think we need a big hype to buy the product are everywhere! Glad you were able to find the Irish Times source and also glad you're doing DYK with it! We hope (talk) 16:55, 10 March 2012 (UTC)

How about giving this a go?
Wikipedia:HighBeam/Applications It will give you access to the full text on many newspapers and other publications. One of the things that's really hampered my research was Google's decision to abandon the News Archive. Could have lived with that grudgingly, but they severely limited the amount of hits one can get on a search. Often, it was by going through page after page of hits that you'd find some "gem" of information that could be added to an article. We hope (talk) 18:17, 20 March 2012 (UTC)
Some free US newspaper links
Did some working around and found that the papers owned by the Tribune Company all have the same indexed setup for finding news stories. The easiest way around is to work by the date the story appeared. These are arranged by date, but the size of the database varies from paper to paper. Some go back to 1980, others to 1985 and so on. Just work with the month, day and year grid at the top of the page as it's standard for all of them.

DYK for Interviews Before Execution
On 6 April 2012, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Interviews Before Execution, which you created or substantially expanded. The fact was ... that journalist Ding Yu interviewed 226 death row prisoners for a popular television programme in China's Henan Province? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Interviews Before Execution. You are welcome to check how many hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, quick check) and it will be added to DYKSTATS if it got over 5,000. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page. |

David Bahati
Dear Paul, I have ALREADY several times corrected with footnotes the fact that Bahati is a racist and a homophobic. Articles from the Guardian, BBC Footage in which a gay BBC reporter interviewed Bahati about his crimes. When Bahati knew he was gay, the reporter had to flee because Bahati had his "men" on the outlook to arrest him an jail him. So far for Freedom of the Press in Uganda ! Please, if you are an INDEPENDANT writer, then look in the archive. Bahati's men delete constanly delete this fact from Wikipedia. As a professionale biographer, I do NOT hesitate to publicise + and - sides of a person. Especially the fact that Bahati is watched by different human rights organisation should be known to you. I'll put it back on and we'll what happens. Best wishes

Hi, I'm just wondering whether I can move the top edit function back to the right-hand side of the screen. There appear to have been some updates in the last few minutes but I'd like to keep the old page layout. Cheers Paul MacDermott (talk) 18:51, 23 April 2012 (UTC)
- Could you be more precise? I can't figure out what you mean :) benzband (talk) 19:18, 23 April 2012 (UTC)
- With "preferences" you can add an extra edit function enabling you to edit the lead independently of the rest of the article, which usually appears on the right of the page along with other edit boxes. But suddenly it's moved to the left as a prefix to the article's name. I'm using the old style page layout where the search box is in the menu column at the left of the page. Hope this helps. Paul MacDermott (talk) 19:28, 23 April 2012 (UTC)
- Oh, right, i use that gadget too except in the Vector (default) skin. Indeed when i switched to Monobook (the one you described) i could see what you mean but i have no idea what caused it :P Cheers, benzband (talk) 19:53, 23 April 2012 (UTC)
- Thanks for taking a look. Bizarrely, it seems to have corrected itself now. Not sure what was going on . Could be some kind of bug, I guess. Paul MacDermott (talk) 20:00, 23 April 2012 (UTC)
- Yup i saw they changed the diff system too. [5] Glad it worked out —you said it's fixed so i'm removing the help tag. benzband (talk) 20:03, 23 April 2012 (UTC)
