iServer proposed deletion
Hi there,
My apologies for deleting the Article-for-deletion notice - this was accidental when I made the article title a lower case template. iServer is a product developed by Orbus Software, whose page was recently deleted. Could this be why the iServer page is now being flagged for lack of notability? The iServer page was flagged right after the Orbus Software page was deleted so I'm just trying to understand a bit better the problems with this page
Many thanks in advance — Preceding unsigned comment added by BatesyM (talk • contribs) 13:53, 14 May 2015
- @BatesyM: Well, had you not deleted the PROD template the article would have been deleted in a few days, so that is not an issue. What happens now is that we, you included, please, discuss the deletion at the deletion discussion page and a consensus is formed, after which the article will be kept or will be deleted.
- Having looked at your talk page I see I also nominated Orbus for speedy deletion. There must be some causal link there. I imagine I was simply following up links to see if other things required consideration. We are very happy to have notable software whether the producer is notable and has an article (or not) or is not inherently notable, so that =, of itself, is not the link. It must be that the Orbus article attracted my attention for a different reason. You are right min that it is not likely to be coincidence.
- Your road now is to look for referencing that will make iServer a no brainer to keep. We require references from significant coverage about the topic of the article, and independent of it, and in WP:RS please. See WP:42. You have tome. The discussion will run, generally, for seven days. But do not leave it until the final day. Make the referencing improvements, and then state on the discussion that you wish to keep the article and have improved the references.. Do it once and do it well.
Thank you very much for the feedback, I will work on this. — Preceding unsigned comment added by BatesyM (talk • contribs) 13:53, 14 May 2015

Draft: The Naked Convos page review
Hi Timtrent,
You reviewed my draft exactly a month ago and I made adjustments a few days after and resubmitted. Since then I haven't heard anything. Please do have a look soon. Here is the link: Draft:The_Naked_Convos

Moving articles to userspace drafts rather than copying them
User:Thestudent1461/sandbox is a copy of War in Afghanistan (2001–present). For some reason, you indicated that the article page should be moved to the userspace draft page, rather than simply allowing its contents to be copied. This doesn't make sense. Can you explain why you wanted this to happen? Jackmcbarn (talk) 15:59, 11 May 2015 (UTC)
- @Jackmcbarn: Indeed it does not. I seem to be making bizarre mistakes today. The sandbox version is the copy and should go (as I am sure you will agree). I am about to go online for a much needed break judging by my errors. Thank you for asking me gently Fiddle Faddle 16:02, 11 May 2015 (UTC)

Regarding your message in my Talk Page (2)
Timrent, I'm trying to understand what, in your opinion, is wrong with the presentation of the historical material in my draft. I'm not discussing a philosophical topic like "What is truth?" There one would have to write "According to Aristotle...", "In Platon's view...", "Luther is of the opinion...", "Calvin thought..." The article deals with history. Its language is the language historians use. The sentence which supposedly does not record but analyse the historical material is not isolated. It is followed by a few other sentences, and then a Reference (Heinrich Bornkamm...) This reference (or citation) indicates that the historical facts in the preceding sentences have been taken over from an encyclopedic article by historian Heinrich Bornkamm in "Die Religion in Geschichte und Gegenwart" ... (By the way, the academic standard of RGG equals that of Encyclopedia Britannica.) He analysed a mass of historical data and condensed the relevant facts into a few sentences. So there was analysis. But it is not mine, but that of an outstanding expert in the fields of church and general history. If I added "According to historian Heinrich Bornkamm, ..." this would be redundant, as Bornkamm is mentioned in the Reference. Reduncancy is the last thing an encyclopedic article should have. But of course, it would be possible to introduce Bornkamm to the reader of he article. I'll do that in the passage "Definition", where I refer to Bornkamm for the first time. As I said, I use the language historians use. A few examples from wi:en. In the article on Martin Luther King, time and again one, two or more sentences about King's life and activities are followed by a citation. In the article "English Civil War" the chapter "Parliament in the English constitutional framework" consists of 16 lines that have a single citation at the end. Nowhere is there any "According to ..." Nevertheless, I will do what you ask me to do. Just tell me. Speahlman (talk) 18:56, 13 May 2015 (UTC)
- @Speahlman: Before we travel the road of what I want, let's take me out of the equation. Ask at the Articles For Creation Help desk for a further set of eyes on your draft to ensure both that I am correct (or not) and that you understand what is needed. I am perfectly content to be shown to be incorrect. How does that sit with you? Fiddle Faddle 19:13, 13 May 2015 (UTC)

- I have run out of enthusiasm and interest in this article and in trying to help you, and have found that we have a different definition of dialogue, you and I. You have all the information you need in order to make your references as compliant with our requirements as you can. Even with excellence of referencing I doubt the article will be retained. If you need help please ask someone else. I have laboured with you long enough without your reaching any form of understanding. Good work
with our angry AfD commentator. I left a note also. DGG ( talk ) 00:07, 14 May 2015 (UTC)
- Thanks DGG. When one gets to the point that they cannot hear what is said, after a while one cuts one's losses. All I can say is "I tried". I note they have asked for more help in the thread just above this, yet they have enough information and rehashing the same material, at least by me, is likely to be fruitless. The AFD has a few more days to run. I think there is a probability that the article will be deleted. I think the work they are putting in is huge, but in the wrong direction. Truly less is more here. Who knows, they may even have followed my advice and edited it down!
- If you have a few pointers for them they might be able to hear a different voice, but it's a lot to ask of you. I very nearly asked you to join in with your aptitude for cutting to the chase over academics and referencing but thought you would probably see it anyway. Fiddle Faddle 06:25, 14 May 2015 (UTC)
- Of course, you might have meant the other one! Isn't the written word wonderful when it can be interpreted in the way one decides rather than the way it is meant! Fiddle Faddle 06:34, 14 May 2015 (UTC)
- don't count on my seeing things. I go back and forth between many different things, so what I notice is often accidental. Just Ping. It is always hard to tell who might actually respond, but I do not think that they are open to listening to anyone. But since you ask, I will give it a try. DGG ( talk ) 08:13, 14 May 2015 (UTC)
Admin
Hi, it's of course none of my business (and don't hesitate to tell me that if you want!) but how come you're not an admin. I've come across few users here who would make so good admins. You obviously have the experience, the knowledge, the patience and the level temper needed for it. Of course it's a thankless job and I understand anyone who doesn't want to do it, but still thought I'd ask. Admins like you is exactly what we'd need.Jeppiz (talk) 16:58, 14 May 2015 (UTC)
- @Jeppiz: The trite answer is that I dislike cleaning products.
- The more serious answer is that I can have more freedom without the mop and bucket than I ever could as an admin, and I can do things whereas, as an admin, I would have to block, or delete, or do things to editors. I prefer to be 'just another editor' and show folk how they can be good citizens here. When I act I do not have that extra level of scrutiny an admin does and cannot be referred to disparagingly as a power mad admin, all of whom get weeded out eventually anyway.
- In addition, who would want to put themselves through the unmitigated crap that an RfA is nowadays? I like the idea of doing it as an experiment and answering all questions with "I will let my contributions record speak for me" as an answer to every question. I doubt, somehow. that this would lead to approval!
- I view many of the admin tasks as ones that are better handled by two sets of eyes. Take Speedy Deletion as an example. Some admins see a candidate and delete it. I would still nominate it and let someone else agree with me or not. Blocking is a similar thing. The admin who spots it should not be the one who acts. So, what would be the advantage of appointing me?
- Now, I am going to thank you for the compliment, which I have enjoyed, and give you a challenge. Do better than you believe I do in everything you do here. Fiddle Faddle 17:23, 14 May 2015 (UTC)
Timtrent:
I will soon resubmit my article on Alice Morgan Person (link above), but provide the following information when it is reviewed again--I am supposing you will also review it the second time. There are actually only 3 published secondary sources on Alice Person (minus, short biographical dictionary articles, one of which contains several errors), and one of them is a short periodical article. I am a university professor and one of the authors of the only published full-length book on Alice Person (i.e., Good Medicine and Good Music: A Biography of Mrs. Joe Person). To write the book, I traveled to many special collections, court houses, and other locations to study and synthesize primary sources. In my initial submission, I thought it best to not have nearly every reference be to my book so I referenced things in special collections and newspapers, even though they could be traced to my book. With the exception of the first piece of information, all of these sources could be accessed with the citations I provided. That one piece of information was from a family Bible in the possession of one of Alice's descendants. In order to comply with your request, I have located the pages in my book that contain the information I got from the sources I listed in my first submission with the exception of two newspaper articles, for which I provided complete publication information the first time around. These can be found using any good newspaper index. However, if you require that I reference only my book for those as well I can also do that.
With regard to linking to online sources, my book is not available freely online, nor is my book co-author's earlier journal article, which I reference once in my Wikipedia submission. Finding aids for the special collections that contain the papers of Alice Person and the digital collection I created are available online and I included those links the first time around. They remain.
I really want to get the word out about this special woman so I do hope that, although secondary source material on her is limited, you will accept my submission.
Sincerely,
David Hursh — Preceding unsigned comment added by Plantdude (talk • contribs) 22:30, 14 May 2015 (UTC)
- @Plantdude: You may use {{cite book}} to cite pages in a book. The book does not need to be online. {{Cite journal}} is useful for journals, too.

If I can not use Inline links could you point me to other Wikipedia citing sources which can show how to add references. Please can you also explain what the last section of your comment means - external links in a section so named? Not sure what I'm being asked to do here

@SandyGeorgia: Come and play at AFC for a while yourself. Choose drafts you know nothing at all about. It's actually quite relaxing, perhaps especially when stressed. Start with the newest submissions, they tend to be th most obvious yes/no/maybe candidates. It does;t matter if you play for a day only, but come and play. You will need to add yourself to the list of reviewers and to deploy the script. The latter is in your preferences. I read that article. If you stand where I stand (total ignorance) you will probably understand how it fooled me. We do a very quick pass. If something looks like a quick win we accept or reject it. And we make mistakes. This one looked like a quick win. The good thing is that you caught the mistake. We should never be afraid of making mistakes. Fiddle Faddle 08:41, 20 May 2015 (UTC)

Hello! Thank you for giving me an explanation on why my sandbox article was declined for submission. However, I have to ask you for a bit of clarification. I will try to be more precise: 1."Any extraneous matter such as descriptions of streaming must go. These are dealt with by using WIkilinks." Do you mean by this that I link streaming to article dealing with streaming published on Wikipedia? The purpose of that paragraph was to show the nature of go live function, i.e. what is this in its essence (a streaming feature). What would be your advice now regarding this: to rephrase this paragraph or to delete it?
2."Rambles about "some streaming engines" and similar material smack of advertorial. Please lose those" I tried to use the examples I know. In addition, how is this advertorial when there is an article on Wowza engines on Wikipedia as well?
3. "References that do not meet the stringent criteria above must be replaced by those that do, please" Finally, could you please give me an example of acceptable reference? I tried to keep them independent, I looked for sources that " include reliable published works in all forms, such as newspaper articles, magazine articles, books, television documentaries, websites, and published reports by consumer watchdog organizations".
Thank you for leaving time to help me!| Kindest Regards, F. Flower244 (talk) 16:45, 22 May 2015 (UTC)
- Answers:
- 1 Use a Wikilink to the relevant Wikipedia article
- 2 No precedent is ever set by any article for any other. If it were we would have a brutally fast descent into idiocracy. If Wowza is bad it needs to be improved.
- 3 This is down to you. The best advice is to look at WP:GA items to see what is accepted there, noting that they do not set a precedent, and following their example for referencing.
- Wikipedia is simple, not easy. We have very high standards. Some existing articles slip below those. Fiddle Faddle 21:16, 22 May 2015 (UTC)

Wikipedia Walter Russell
Edit the existing article? Can't be done ! I have rewritten it, its on my sandbox page. An earlier version of my rewrite is on my user page, but it was rejected a couple of months ago. What I want to do is replace the existing Walter Russell article which is grossly inaccurate and defamatory. I have the authority, I have written a biography of Walter Russell. Please read my article in my sandbox and compare it to the existing Walter Russell article. This needs to be done!
If you can't replace the existing article, then it should be taken down. Charles Hardy ```` — Preceding unsigned comment added by Chazhardy (talk • contribs) 16:30, 22 May 2015 (UTC)
- Of course it can be done. If you have no interest in doing this then it will not be done. Forgive me for showing no enthusiasm for your message. I have no interest in making any such comparison. I have reviewed the material against our rules. The article exists. Please go and enjoy editing it. Fiddle Faddle 21:19, 22 May 2015 (UTC)
- When I say the Walter Russell article cannot be edited, I mean that it is too far out of joint to change what has stood for 9 years. Almost every sentence contains false information, so sentence after sentence would have to be deleted. Also the various criticisms need to be addressed. That is why I rewrote the article, although it has the same structure as the original. You need to look at the new version in my sandbox. One glance will tell you that the criticisms have been addressed and that it is superior to the original article. Also, I wrote the article in such a way that contributors can easily interject new material without destroying the essential structure of the piece. There are many students of Russell
who have expressed dismay and disgust at the old article and wonder how Wikipedia can tolerate such a piece, flawed as it is. Also, there is the issue of defamation and fairness. Wikipedia simply cannot treat a man of such distinction with such disregard for the truth. I urge you to take another look.Chazhardy (talk) 03:15, 23 May 2015 (UTC)
- @Chazhardy: Wikipedia works by people making edits, not by people replacing an article that has stood, by consensus, for a long time, with another different article. Use the article's talk page to enquire whether your changes might be appropriate. Determine consensus, and then, and only then, move forward. If yours is supported by excellence of referencing then your edits will win the day. WP:TRUTH seems an appropriate thing to read at this point.
- As I have said before, you need to be the one to do this. You are the person who sees the old article as incorrect. Note, please, WP:BURDEN.
- On a separate issue, please do group conversations under the same heading. I have had to move your response to this section for completeness. Fiddle Faddle 06:22, 23 May 2015 (UTC)

Hello-
I recently submitted an article regarding Narrative 4 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Echarash/sandbox. I was told that it seemed like two things in one and to separate them to resubmit. I was unsure what exactly Timtrent meant by this and was wondering if you could offer further explanation.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Jocelyn_Scheirer.
Hello! You reviewed this draft and I wanted to make sure I covered everything before resubmitting. Specifically, I am concerned with the references to MIT and the Relevant Published Works section.
Concerning the MIT references, I understand that these may not technically be third-party independent sources, but they are the only sources for certain information. For example, references 13-15 are smaller projects that didn't go outside of the MIT Media Lab. If MIT can't be used I will scrap the information that I can't find other sources for, but would like to include them if possible.
Concerning the Relevant Published Works section, I know I am not supposed to use Scheirer's works as reference to facts in the page, but the Relevant Published Works section only requires references to highlight where I found the peer-reviewed articles. Can I leave these citations as is or do I have to find another source that mentions the peer-reviewed articles?
Thanks for your time and help! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Bsharaf (talk • contribs) 21:22, 15 May 2015
- @Bsharaf: I regret I will nto have time for a while to answer your questions in a sensible manner. I suggest that you simply resubmit and et another reviewer opine. I rarely re-review drafts. Fiddle Faddle 07:18, 19 May 2015 (UTC)
- @Bsharaf: Forgive my delay in answering. I have, now, some time, and, though my answers are simple, you deserved my having the time to consider your questions. WP:PRIMARY is the information you seek, I think. We may make sparing use of primary sources. In broad terms they may be used to verify facts that are unlikely to be susceptible to challenge, but one must not use only primary sources in an article. I make no comment on whether or not you have done so.
- Where a paper (etc) is peer reviewed I see it as useful to cite the review. I will, however, defer to DGG in this, since they specialise, among other areas, in the world of academe. By pinging them I am alerting them to your interest in advice on this draft.
- I note that the subject of the article is your CEO and that you have declared the WP:COI on your user page. Thank you. Assuming the draft is accepted, please be very clear on the mechanisms you may use to make future edits. At present, as a draft, the rules are less stringently applied because reviews tend to strip out the things we would complain of in the main namespace. Fiddle Faddle 16:39, 20 May 2015 (UTC)
- "Where a paper (etc) is peer reviewed I see it as useful to cite the review." this is almost never possible--peer reviews are in almost all cases never published; they're not like book reviews--the reviewer is selected by the editor, and send him a report; the editor usually sends all or part of the report to the author of the article, without the reviewers name. . The mere fact of accepting something in a major peer-reviewed journal indicates a favorable review--the importance depends upon the quality of the journal. Published papers by themselves do not constitute proof of notability; highly cited published papers do, with the citations depending on the field. Bsharaf, I normally add the citation figures for the most cited papers. Being a "research assistant" is in many fields the quivalent of just a technician, but from the publications i see she had a more significant role than that. I've accepted the article; it will pass speedy. But you do still needto show here work is cited. DGG ( talk ) 04:00, 21 May 2015 (UTC)
Thank you for all your help and for accepting the article! I will add citations to show that each of those works are cited in other reputable works. I will also look into the resources you provided to double check that everything else is where it needs to be. This is all great info so I appreciate you taking the time to help me out. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Bsharaf (talk • contribs) 04:07, 25 May 2015 (UTC)

Brailsford & Dunlavey page
Hi Timtrent,
You were very helpful a couple of months ago in advising on which content was superfluous on the Brailsford & Dunlavey page. Two weeks ago, the site was approved and went live. Two days ago, someone deleted it. And the draft article appears to be gone.
If some editors believe something is notable and another editor believes it isn't, what is its Wiki fate? Reminder: full disclosure: I am a biased participant in this process. I'm also satisfied with whatever decision the Wiki community makes. But it appears all the time invested crafting a Wiki-worthy article have gone to waste, so I'm trying to make sense of what happens next. Would appreciate your feedback.
Best,
Bjrudell (talk) 13:30, 26 May 2015 (UTC)
- @Bjrudell: First read Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Brailsford_&_Dunlavey where I see the deletion discussion took place. I remember our conversation, but not the substance of it and I do not recall sufficient detail about the article to be particularly helpful over the content.
- One of the issues we all have to face here is consensus, something formed very publicly when a random collection of editors offer opinions during a deletion discussion. An editor nominated this for deletion and others noticed this and opined. It was then deleted. Examine their comments. They might be correct or might not. Talk to the deleting admin (usually the person who did the physical deletion) about returning it to you in your user space so that you may work on it again.
- There is a route to appeal the deletion, WP:DRV, but this is used to appeal the technical aspects of the deletion, and this case was technically correct based upon the opinions given. Fiddle Faddle 13:37, 26 May 2015 (UTC)
- @Timtrent: Much appreciated. All makes sense. I've Wiki-mailed the deleter to request a return of the draft article so we can keep it handy in case the company becomes more notable.
- @Bjrudell: what is upsetting is that you should not have received the happy glow of acceptance followed by the smack in the face with a wet fish of deletion. We have asked the editor who accepted the draft to step back from reviewing until they gain more experience, and you will see my note on their talk page, too. Is the company notable? I have no idea. But this must form the cornerstone of any future article.
- When you redraft, start with the references, and write what they say. Do not write what you want to say, but write what the references say. One of those who offered an opinion, CorporateM is an editor who takes no prisoners and, in failing to take prisoners, offers excellent advice. Their advice that you might not be the right person to draft this because you are close to the topic is worth digesting. If you decide that you are the person to draft it I rate them as an excellent sounding board, if they are willing to offer you advice. I've let them know of this conversation in case they wish to add anything to it. Fiddle Faddle 13:57, 26 May 2015 (UTC)
- @Timtrent: Great advice. Yeah, the references are a good starting point because they're objective and (one would assume) entirely factual. Again, thanks for taking the time to explain this stuff. Have learned more about the Wikipedia world in the past two months than I knew in all the years before. Makes me appreciate what you and all of the editors do to keep this site strong. Bjrudell (talk) 14:38, 26 May 2015 (UTC)
- @Bjrudell: Practice with other articles. If you can wrote for Wikipedia you can write for absolutely any audience. It will enhance your career but not your resumé! Fiddle Faddle 15:20, 26 May 2015 (UTC)

- I suppose it might, Arthur, but I think I have run my course with that one. Do you fancy having a go. I see it as a puff piece with PR based references. Fiddle Faddle 10:35, 28 May 2015 (UTC)
- The Draft itself isn't wildly promotional, and I suppose in the fashion world, having all these celebrity endorsements is a significant thing. I agree the sourcing is very weak, however. Unfortunately my knowledge of fashion goes no further than the early nineteenth century... as you can see from my user page profile picture... so I cannot really see how to take it forward. Perhaps Elvis and Mojo could try asking for advice at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Fashion. Arthur goes shopping (talk) 11:34, 28 May 2015 (UTC)

Declined Entry for Walter Knabe
Dear Fiddle Faddle,
Thanks for getting back with us regarding our declined entry. There seems to be some confusion though; and it may be mine! My name is John Mavrakis, and I wrote the description and copy for the "Walter Knabe" entry. Walter had nothing to do with this other than my telling him I had done it after it was submitted. I have received several notices that an enbtry cannot be done by the person himself, and I have responded back to each notice that I wrote the entry. How can I get this published, and what did I do wrong? I must admit that this is a very complex process and most confusing to me! Thanks a million! - @Wknabe: Go to WP:CHU and request a change of user name anyway. Why you chose Walter's name as a username is a puzzle. I have given you this advice before.
- With regard to the draft, follow the instructions there and, if he is notable there is a good chance of getting this accepted. The draft and your user name are separate issues.
- You haven't touched the draft since 21 April, nor edited here since 23 April, apart from posting this message. Please take the advice you are given, do the work and resubmit the draft. Someone else will review it. I almost never re-revoew a draft. Fiddle Faddle 07:07, 29 May 2015 (UTC)

Born in Brooklyn, NY, Sachs served in the US Army from 1944 - 46, a survivor of the WWII battle for Okinawa. Attending college on the GI Bill, he received his doctorate in biochemistry from Columbia University in 1953. He pioneered the scientific field of hormone biosynthesis with his groundbreaking discoveries concerning the production of the hormone vasopressin. At age 48, he left a prestigious scientific career to became a physician. The youngest of three children, his parents were Jewish immigrants from Poland, who spoke only Yiddish. Howard's path out of the poverty he was born into began when his high math grades got him accepted to Stuyvesant High School in Manhattan, noted for its math and chemistry departments. WW II[edit] Sachs joined the army at age 18 and was shipped to Okinawa with the A Company of the 96th Infantry Division. He served from 1944 to 1946. His experiences in the war inspired him to be an anti-war activist during the Viet Nam war. Education[edit] Sachs attended Brooklyn College on the GI Bill, graduating with a B.S. in 1949. He then went on to get his M.A. in organic chemistry from Columbia University in 1950. In 1953 he received his PhD in biochemistry from Columbia, doing research on a NIH grant under Professor Erwin Brand. In 1976 he received his M.D. from Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine. Personal Life[edit] While at Brooklyn College, Sachs fell in love with fellow student, Martha Pomeranz. They were married and in 1952 had twin daughters, Linda and Susan, followed in 1955 by daughter Nancy. Accepting a position at Case Western Reserve University, the family moved to the small town of Chagrin Falls outside Cleveland, Ohio, and Sachs became a full professor by the age of 40. During his sabbatical from 1964 - 65, Sachs and his family lived in Rome, where he taught at the Higher Institute of Health. During his subsequent sabbatical, in 1968, he took a job at the Weizmann Institute of Science in Rehovot, Israel. In 1970, Howard and Martha divorced. A trip across the Serengeti Desert in Tanzania in the early 70s inspired the next major change in his life. He recalled, "The beauty and grandeur of what I saw there far exceeded my expectations, but so did the sight of so many suffering people. The prevalence of diseases was staggering. I wanted to help, but as a biochemist, my skills would be useless. . . . I left Africa with a whole new view of the purpose of my life. I wanted to be able to ease the suffering of people in those places where doctors were few and far between." After attending medical school, Sachs spent 13 years as a doctor working in third world countries across the globe. In 1989 he suffered a seizure brought on by an arterial venous malformation in his brain, and suffered a stroke after the operation to remove it. After rehabilitation, Sachs moved to New Mexico, continuing to deliver lectures, and direct a headache center. He moved to Northampton, Massachusetts in 1995 to be near his daughters, and worked as a physician at the Baystate Medical Center in Springfield. Sachs wrote a memoir Skydiving into Medical School: From the Slums of New York to the Himalayas which included his account of his solo trek through the Himalayas. In his later years he focused on the problems of the aging population. He proposed serious research be done on three of the main sources of suffering in nursing homes and assisted living facilities: touch deprivation, absence of meaningful dialogue about death and the afterlife, and segregation of the elderly from the cultural mainstream. He died on December 6, 2011 at the Fisher Home Hospice in Amherst, Massachusetts. Howard is survived by his ex-wife Martha and their three daughters, Susan, Linda, and Nancy, and his grandson Daniel. Research Career[edit] In his research in the late 1950’s and early 1960’s, Sachs discovered the relationship between neurophysin and vasopressin, a major hormone that is critical to water balance in the body – and showed how they are both part of a larger, inactive precursor protein, which is then enzymatically cleaved to produce them both. His groundbreaking research laid the foundation for understanding the biosynthesis of all brain peptides and proteins, and for that matter, the vast majority of all body proteins. Sachs was honored by the Endocrine Society in the 1960's and several researchers who worked in his lab shared the opinion that his discoveries were Nobel Prize-worthy. File:Gainer WCNH History of Discovery of Vasopressin Sachs' research elucidated many of the steps in the synthesis of the neurophysin-vasopressin molecule. This complex process led to the “precursor hypothesis” for the formation of small biologically active peptides and opened the way to discoveries of other neuropetides in the 1970s and 1980s, and presaged the identification of precursor proteins useful to nature in such diverse processes as virus production and the production of most secreted proteins. Sachs showed how a major hormone, vasopressin or antidiuretic hormone - critical to water balance in the body - was synthesized in specialized nerve cells which, although part of the brain, were also capable of secreting the hormone vasopressin into the blood. In his study of the biosynthesis of vasopressin, a small peptide, Sachs showed that vasopressin was initially made as part of a larger inactive precursor protein which was then enzymatically cleaved to give active vasopressin. This led to the “precursor hypothesis” for the formation of small biologically active peptides, which was shown to be true for a host of neuropeptides discovered in the 1970s – 1980s, and presaged the identification of precursor proteins useful to nature in such diverse processes as virus production and the production of most secreted proteins. He also showed that brain tissue can be kept functionally alive for two months in tissue culture and helped elucidate the interaction between specialized neurons and neuroglial cells and the hypothalamal-neurohypophysial complex (HNC). Sachs started as a chemist, then became a peptide chemist, and then became a biochemist and left Columbia University in NYC to come to Case Western Reserve where he became an integral part of the physiology department. This move proved to be highly fertile in a much broader area of neurochemistry and neurophysiology. He was in the right place at the right time. After 15 years there, he left CWR to become the section chief of neurochemistry at Hoffman-Roche Institute of Molecular Biology in New Jersey. At the height of his research career, he left to go to medical school to become a neurologist.
Medical School[edit] When Sachs was at the pinnacle of his scientific career, at age 48, he gave up the prestige and financial comfort of his position as the section chief of neurochemistry at the Roche Institute of Molecular Biology and applied to medical school. He wanted to practice in the third world. Despite numerous rejections because of his age, Yale University accepted him when he told them about a recent sky-diving adventure, apparently convincing them he had the stamina it takes to endure the rigors of medical school. However, he chose instead to attend Case Western Reserve School of Medicine, which had also accepted him, returning in 1973 as a student to the university where he had been a professor from 1957 - 1969. He graduated in 1976, completed his internship and residency in neurology at USC in California, and then became a full-fledged neurologist. World Travels[edit] As soon as he completed his internship at USC, he began fulfilling his mission to deliver care in those areas where doctors are few and far between, and generally volunteered his services. With his friend and colleague David Sunde, he traveled to the Ecuadorean Andes to conduct headache research, followed by 8000 miles of criss-crossing South America including the Amazon, Machu Picchu and the Galapagos. In Sri Lanka he set up a remote vaccination clinic; in Papua New Guinea he attended patients in a medical outpost run by Jesuit Missionaries; he worked in Bosnia, Uzbekistan, China and South Asia. To explore other cultures, Sachs also traveled to Tibet, Mongolia, Russia, Tanzania, most of Europe, Scandinavia, and Lapland. The two countries he never wanted to visit were Germany because of the Holocaust, and Vietnam because —despite all his anti-war activities —he felt "the guilt at our senseless destruction of their land and people."

Hello, and thank you for clarifying the guidelines. I have edited the page, but have not yet added citations, as I don't understand yet what is actually required. The statements made about Howard Sachs' research contributions can be verified by the 55 articles he published in established scientific journals, but I am assuming this doesn't count. I have one textbook listed that verifies these claims. I would appreciate any further guidance you can give me about how to get the page accepted. Do I need to have footnotes for every detail of the discoveries he made, or is it enough to reference the text book in which he is credited with them?
Thank you. csvane
I assume the edited page will be linked to this request.
Csvane (talk) 00:05, 2 June 2015 (UTC)
- The thing that require citations are each of the fact you assert. Each simple fact requires a reference. Some needs to be cut. Look at "Ear;y life" and decide what is germane to the man and requires citation and what is irrelevant and should be cut. Treat all text the same way. Fiddle Faddle 14:46, 2 June 2015 (UTC)

Draft: Neue Gestaltung
Hello Timtrent, many thanks for further commenting on my Draft:Neue Gestaltung. Unfortunately the last reviewer dismissed the draft again due to “apparent” absence of reliable and independent sources. As discussed with you earlier, and based on your valuable feedback, I incorporated the suggested changes and believe that the current sources used for referencing are independent, reliable and cover the statements made in the article. After getting in touch with the last reviewer he/she stated a list of very different reasons e.g. “obvious” POV writing style, advertisement etc. I’m currently very puzzled as the reviewer ultimately dismissed the draft for very different reasons which I find contradicting. However, I do understand the issue regarding red links and will remove them asap as it only leads to “dead ends”. Appreciate your feedback on the current situation and will try to get some help at the teahouse. Many thanks in advance. Mehrinhalt (talk) 16:42, 5 June 2015 (UTC)

ENA
Reference to our link : https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Eastern_News_Agency , there are several editors of wikipedia coming up with new set of conditions applying for no reasons. First of all the copy right issue is resolved. Now article creation issue raised on the ground that reference are not reliable. How you know that? All the references are from the National Newspaper of Bangladesh that is used. What else you need? Other things of the text are solely the text of ENA , there should not have problem or conflict of interest. If you as AFC don't want us in the Wikipedia . Its ok , We are already in the national encyclopedia of Bangladesh in Banglapedia , we don't need any wiki or fiki as we are a Historic news agency organization of Bangladesh. It is your misfortune that you were unable to keep us on your wiki and you could create your own credibility. We have doubt that none of your volunteers are educated enough to understand the credibility of news agency and its proposition. First learn then run non profit organization . That s our suggestion. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 122.102.32.106 (talk) 14:11, 11 June 2015 (UTC)
- @122.102.32.106: Our role as reviewers is to seek to ensure that an article will not immediately be subject to one of our deletion processes when it is accepted. That is why we push it back to the author. We want to accept articles. Please try hard not to make silly and baseless accusations about some sort of bias. I don't care about your organisation one way or another. I care about the quality of the article passionately. Write a well referenced article or not, no-one minds one way or another. But we will only accept a well referenced article. Fiddle Faddle 14:23, 11 June 2015 (UTC)

5.http://www.pakistanpressfoundation.org/1999/10/hasan-saeed-passes-away/ - This link provided to showcase the journalist of ENA dies and its background remarked in the national news paper.
On contrary, all the above links included as the evidence to prove the Journalist who passes away were nationally recognized journalist of ENA and that relates with the achievement page as most of Bangladesh common peoples knows them very well. Also the remarks now made by AFC team is unjustifiable first they raised about copy right , second about article creation of writing & now links & reference issues. On the other hand , actually what specific the AFC teams wants , we are not clear about facts. Do you want us to be in wikipedia page or no? Please note we seek support so that our article is published on WIKIPEDIA as it is a historic news agency. For no reason it is making a time lengthy issue on Wikipedia talkpage. There are so many coverage of other articles on Wikipedia , we noted those are baseless but AFC and Volunteers are not related to narrate those instead on ENA. IF ENA Aritcle is not standard then AFC TEAMS are really unfit & immature editors to evaluate the materials of the articles. Sorry to say... It has become a joke really since 35 days for no reason. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 122.102.32.106 (talk) 19:02, 11 June 2015 (UTC)

It is very unfortunate that you have nominated our draft for deletion. The reason which you mentioned are very biased and not inclusive in perspective to Bangladesh and its proposition. The Article is edited several times with exclusion of whatever necessary references. The latest references used from National Encyclopedia and also from the State Head Condolence message published from the largest Newspaper of Bangladesh which relates the contribution of ENA significantly and wide coverage. It your own discretion power that you have used and applied set conditions to Wikipedia. We strongly condemned and also notify there are many articles which are baseless on Wikiipedia but still on publication. Our issue was only copy right issue , no other matter. In various moments a new amateur volunteers came up and used their discretion power to select and reject on baseless ground. Our narration includes all independent lawful points regarding reference and relevancy of the article. Volunteers are not authority to direct authors which angle or what condition they should write articles . It is the author to decide notable article for readers attention without harming global community. Anyway we assume Wikipedia does not require us and that is why such amateur volunteers coming up every time since 35 days raising unwanted issues which are not relevant information and biased off course. Our all notification and references information are reliable , traceable and on records documents. Wikipedia declines President Prime Ministers of Bangladesh recognition , National encyclopedia of Bangladesh recognition and National News paper coverage recognition and take it into account as not reliable source. Hello Sir,
I was asked to create a wiki page for Scott Miller (now Scott Graham Miller) by an old work colleague as Miller was being considered for a prominent soccer coaching role in Australia. It turns out that someone had created a very poor wiki page and it was obviously declined. I have tried to add basic important facts and remove any poorly referenced material. Miller will be unveiled in June 2015 as the head coach of Newcastle Jets in Australia and will a person of interest for wiki.
Kind regards,
David
