WP:India Newsletter bug?

Hello Tinu. Maybe this is of interest to you: User_talk:Mlpkr#WP:INDIA_September_2008_Newsletter Mspraveen (talk) 07:16, 1 September 2008 (UTC)

Hey Praveen, Thanks for bringing this to my notice. For those who opted for just a link only content, I delivered this in the month of June 2008:

==WP:INDIA CURRENTMONTHNAME CURRENTYEAR Newsletter== The CURRENTMONTHNAME CURRENTYEAR issue of the India WikiProject newsletter has been published. You may read the newsletter, change the format in which future issues will be delivered to you, or unsubscribe from this notification by following this link. Thank you. <small> This notice is automatically delivered by TinucherianBot (talk) 07:17, 16 June 2008 (UTC) </small>

I had used the CURRENTMONTHNAME , which shows the current month , I should have better substitued it subst

Btw what is happening to the next issue? It has been a long time :) -- Tinu Cherian - 07:23, 1 September 2008 (UTC)

Okay, good that it is sorted out now. Oh well, just when I thought it was about time, a new month started. Usually Gppande is very prompt on this. Do you think we release these anyways after putting in some work? Maybe Gppande gets pinged about this. What say? Mspraveen (talk) 15:22, 2 September 2008 (UTC)

Details of my block

Hello! I'll explain you everything what was happened. I uploaded the image from this page as a fair use. First, it did mislead me when I saw the text "This work is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 2.5 License" at the bottom of the page. Then, I realized that it was a fair use. The image having a source and a license, the only thing that was missing was a fair use rationale. At this step I didn't know what to do, but consulting Wikipedia help I found the template Non-free fair use rationale. So I added. On the propose for the use of this image, I wrote that it was for illustrating the movie The Mummy Returns. Yamla said that this image didn't show anything about the movie, so nominating the image as for fair use rationale dispute. I did link the image in the article about the movie and articles of Patricia Velásquez and Arnold Vosloo, appearing in this image. I may understood his opinion by removing the image of those biographical articles but I didn't understand why he removed it from the article The Mummy Returns. So I undid his edits and for that I was claimed as a vandal and blocked for violating the rules. Now, I saw that in article section The Mummy Returns#Cast has an image similar with the image I uploaded and, by checking Yamla's contributions, I found the Image:Kareena in K3G.jpg and the Image:Kapoor JabWeMet.jpg, which are movie screenshots, linked to the biographical article Kareena Kapoor. And thinking that I was blocked for using a fair use image on a biographical article and reverting removal edits. The uploader of those images wasn't block and you can see at Image:Kareena in K3G.jpg that Yamla reverted a vandalism edited of a copyrighted image for a biographical article, the reasons he used to block me at February 2008. It may passed awhile but seeing this I think that there wasn't a reason to block. Even I remember Yamla saying that I was a copyright violator, even on Commons. I just want to clear my "name". Do you understand that? I hope that I had explain all things to you! Regards, Sdrtirs (talk) 14:29, 28 August 2008 (UTC)

I saw that you sent me this message: May be if you wish to tell me what had happened, I can try to help out to know what went wrong. Thankyou !!!

Thankyou for the Barnstar.........
Actually, I had started editing these 2 articles right from the beginning. I think the Image issue has been resolved after the non free use rationale. Featuring Mangalorean Catholics won't be easy. Although, I'll try to get it to GA status. In between I was also interested in Christianity in India. But Annons have destroyed the article. If you have any good Christian article in mind, then we can try to elevate it to FA status. Kensplanet (talk) 12:49, 5 September 2008 (UTC)

I don't think PD-India can be used there. Since, I am not sure the Image was published before 1948. It's quite possible that the Image may be of 50's or 60's since he died in 1979. Thanks, Kensplanet (talk) 13:57, 5 September 2008 (UTC)

Bot issue

See duplicate tagging on Talk:Abraham Mazumdar. Regards, Ganeshk (talk) 22:20, 29 August 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for pointing out. I had disabled autosave and was experimenting something on Regexp tester but didnt realise it actually saved it. OK, anyways let me tell my issue is , I was able to add music=yes with advanced setting of 'Find and replace' for WP India for banners in single line like

like
Find :
Replace:

But I am not able to do for banners in multiple lines like

I tried using
Find :

and many combinations , but it didnot work . Any idea how to do this ? -- Tinu Cherian - 02:53, 30 August 2008 (UTC)

Sorry Tinu...Regexes is on my to-do list of things to learn. :) I will add music parameter to the Kingboyk's plugin. That should help you out. Regards, Ganeshk (talk) 01:01, 1 September 2008 (UTC)

. I just needed to Tick the box named SingleLine in the find & replace screen. Got the answer from WT:AWB -- Tinu Cherian - 04:50, 2 September 2008 (UTC)

Great! Thanks for letting me know. It will be use for me next time. May be there should be a place to consolidate these regex hacks. There was one that updates the class parameter across all the banners on the talk page. That was cool too. Regards, Ganeshk (talk)
Do you mean like this ? See my latest BRFA. It basically updates |class for a particular banner (one at a time) based on the highest |class= of other already assessed banners on the talk page -- Tinu Cherian - 11:50, 2 September 2008 (UTC)
Yes, that's one I was talking about. Please post that code somewhere for future reference. Regards, Ganeshk (talk) 03:36, 4 September 2008 (UTC)
I borrowed the code with permission from User:Richard0612 . You may see the code at User_talk:Stepshep/Archive_4#Wikiproject_templates . -- Tinu Cherian - 05:18, 4 September 2008 (UTC)
That should do it. Thanks! Ganeshk (talk) 01:25, 6 September 2008 (UTC)

SAVE POK ARTICLE

please save POK article from deletion Pakistan occupied Kashmir article has been posted for deletion..i have made the following appeal there:

 • do not delete : PLEASE allow editing to take place in this article so that it gets balanced; disabling editing and then crying unbalanced is hypocrisy!!!..As we all know we didn't delete european union article just because there was an "england" article or "france" article or "germany" article (which are part of EU nevertheless) ... Similarly we did not destroy soviet union article just because it is divided into 15 parts..Further it is very very clear that POK is not the same as "azad k ONLY" or "northern areas ONLY" as pok also includes trans karakoram tract, gilgit and baltistan (from 1947 till now)...pok term is used by most if not all non pakistan media.so ip and soman contention invalid.. i think it is not "fork" since contents are not identical, verifiable, has reliable sources and differs from the other articles like "trans-Karakoram tract" or "Northern Areas" (at the maximum, there is a passing reference in the summary(if this is considered fork) style with redirect links to sub regions). So, i am opposing this high handed move based on ignorance..rather i suggest that those who suggest it as non neutral contribute towards making this neutral, if it is not already neutral..pahari sahib's contention of inflammatory not substantiated both in talk page of pok or otherwise..so DO NOT DELETEKashmircloud (talk) 10:39, 6 September 2008 (UTC)

if you can improve this article or if you believe that the article can be improved by removing the edit ban(say, exampple: semiprotect) and if you also concur that pok not equal to ajk, please help in saving this article from deleters with nationalistic (pakistani)/ religious(islamist?) motives for POK article removal(example: User:paharisahib is pakistani)..please save the POKarticle...Kashmircloud (talk) 10:39, 6 September 2008 (UTC)

Role of the adoptee

I was wondering, what am I actually meant to do as an adoptee? I know many people expect adoptees to just turn to their adopters when the need for explanations arises, but is there more to it? As an adopter, I have seen another user, Agrippa (I think) set specific tasks for his adoptees. Do you do something similar? I suppose the object of these tasks is to just get the adoptee more familiar with various aspects of Wikipedia. Just wondering, because we havn't really been in contact much as of late. Please return to WikProject Media franchises

Dear Tinucherian...You are invited to come back to discuss WikiProject Media franchises. Since you participated in one or more discussions of the project, possibly when it was known as WikiProject Fictional series, I hope to see you return to it. The project needs your participation. Currently there is no activity on the project's talk page about the reorganization which is discouraging. I had great expectations for this project as it touches so many topics but am becoming discouraged. I hope to see you return. Task 1a
 1. Read Category:Unknown-importance Mumbai articles
 2. List them out as comma separated values on a subpage A.
 3. List corresponding data such as importance and class on subpage A
 4. List the article titles (without the Talk: prefix) on subpage B

Subpage B is for popups, to get a rough idea of the content. I can skip stub articles from full loading. Once this is done, I will populate the csv file with my assessment. It is now ready for Task 1b.

Task 1b
 1. Use AWB and Ganesh's CSV plugin
 2. Read the CSV file (the header line corresponds to the parameter eg maharashtra-importance, class, image-needed
 3. Update the banners

This should speed up review work. Ensure that all locations mentioned in the following are tagged with wikiproject mumbai and maharashtra?

 1.
 2.
 3.

Do let me know. =Nichalp «Talk»= 16:49, 18 September 2008 (UTC)

Hi Nichal, I am extremely sorry for not replying to you in time . Was busy in real life. Unfortunately my bot doesnt have the 1st task capability. I see that you have already assessed all the WP:MUMBAI articles. I can do the task 1b this way, collect all articles that transculdes , , and tagg them for Maharashtra and mumbai , what say ? -- Tinu Cherian - 05:28, 23 September 2008 (UTC)

Adoption

I was wondering, you say that I am a fast learner, which got me thinking. In the present situation, I'm not really able to edit that much on Wikipedia, logging only only to check up on friends. Do you think I would make a suitable adopter? I would like the opportunity to help out newer and more inexperienced users, fullfiling all the criteria listed on the Adopter's programme page. Do you think I'm up to it? I know more-or-less how Wikipedia works now, where inexperienced users could get help if I cannot provide it and etc. I like meeting new people, showing them to projects where they would be best suited to improve, and get joy from doing so. Would it be worth a gamble? Regards, Blooded Edge Sign/Talk 12:51, 20 September 2008 (UTC)

I am not really sure whether you are actually ready for taking adoptions yourself , but may I suggest something ? Try this : Wikipedia:New contributors' help page and Wikipedia:Help desk . See how you can help others here. Also do keep a watch on Wikipedians looking for help to help out. Once you gain some experience here and feel comfortable , you may post yourself as an adoptor. I also appreciate your interest in meeting new people, but please do remember that Wikipedia is not a social network such as MySpace or Facebook . Btw did you get a chance to look into some of the links I gave you. -- Tinu Cherian - 05:20, 22 September 2008 (UTC)

No actually, sorry, I've been down throughout the weekend with a very irritating throat infection. Wasn't able to do any homework, let alone check up on Wikipedia :(. Though I did have a quick skim through them before, if it was only a breif glance. Thanks much for your own opinions, I'll commit myself to more projects and etc provided I can keep myself above the assignment level (XD). Blooded Edge Sign/Talk 17:00, 22 September 2008 (UTC)

Note

Will reply properly when my time has freed up a bit. Btw, thank you for your message :) Ncmvocalist (talk) 05:26, 21 September 2008 (UTC)

OK. Should you wish you may mail me -- Tinu Cherian - 12:01, 23 September 2008 (UTC)

Hello

Hi there. You are quite right about Juliancolton. I have a few questions for you, alright?
One, I would like to go to the page and express my opposition but it is almost a foregone conclusion that he will be swept into adminship. The only way I can see to have him defeated would be if you or someone else expressed the following. Two, I would be attacked on that page for expressing my sincere opposition to him and others who are his ilk. His nominator, Hink, is pretty terrible at the same things.
There is way too much emphasis now on having people become administrators who are heavy handed. These people often are guilty of spending huge amounts of time in nearly useless editing. Not that anything can be totally a waste but there are priorities of course. They also have pet projects and can even be a bit dictatorial and ban-happy. Here is where I ran afoul of Julian, Hink, Plasticup, Profilaes, etc. These guys are just going crazy and anyone who dissents must be a troublemaker of course. Never mind that I have been on Wikipedia longer than any one of them and perhaps longer than a couple of them put together.
I see Wikipedia as having some serious problems now. If a user is only interested in being a minor piece of something or hidden as it were behind trees and rocks in a forest scene, he or she won't have trouble. Let this same person decide to express an opinion and all kinds of wrath ensues. Anyway, I am also a Christian. I don't appreciate such things. I would like to see Julian defeated and Wikipedia brought back to a more normal society. Let's start a discourse and see what we can accomplish as far as bringing a bit more intelligence to how people conduct themselves on here. There is a bias on here as to those who can spend more than five hours a week up to twenty or whatever versus those who only spend ten to fifteen minutes a day. That should not occur. People do have busy lives and not everyone can dedicate such a huge part of their lives to this endeavor. Talk to you later! Moonlight25 (talk) 10:22, 22 September 2008 (UTC)
Altough I dont agree with some of your comments, I thank you for leaving a note on my talk page. I vote for/aganist admin hopefuls at RFAs based on their merits and demerits. Sincerely I dont see any concerns regarding Juliancolton and obviously I have supported him by now. "I have been on Wikipedia much longer than these guys" , I guessed you have a master account. Which one ? :) If you have concerns regarding them, why dont you discuss with them or try ANI? . If there is anything that I can help otherwise, please let me know. Thanks -- Tinu Cherian - 11:57, 23 September 2008 (UTC)
what could you possibly not understand or agree with? I was speaking about his demerits. he is a major disruption. Moonlight25 (talk) 00:02, 25 September 2008 (UTC)
If you such serious concerns about Julian, you should raise them at his RFA. -- Tinu Cherian - 14:53, 25 September 2008 (UTC)

Re: TinucherianBot

Hey, can you teach me how you make a tagging bot? I'm interested in quickly clearing up unassessed articles in WP:UNI and WP:ROBO. Could I ask you to merge it into one of the operations TinucherianBot does or do I need to file for a BRFA? Technically it's part of Operation 5 of TinucherianBot... Anyways, thanks for your help. - Jameson L. Tai talkcontribs 13:26, 23 September 2008 (UTC)

I could do it for you for your project per task5 of TinucherianBot ( see the bot page for more details) . Well, I dont mind sharing the code for you , if you want to do it urself...Need a detailed writeup for this, I will respond regarding this by tommorrow ( IST )..-- Tinu Cherian - 13:53, 23 September 2008 (UTC)
Task 5 seems like a better idea. If you could do that for those two WikiProjects that would be awesome. Thanks a lot! :D - Jameson L. Tai talkcontribs 14:11, 23 September 2008 (UTC)
  Doing... Autoassessment for WP:UNI and WP:ROBO . -- Tinu Cherian - 07:12, 24 September 2008 (UTC)
Done 34 of 376 unassessed articles of WP:ROBO were autoassessed based on already done assessments by other projects. -- Tinu Cherian - 08:08, 24 September 2008 (UTC)
Done 10 of 110 unassessed articles of WP:UNI were autoassessed based on already done assessments by other projects on the same talk page . Let me know if you are still interested in making the bot, are you familiar with using AWB ?-- Tinu Cherian - 09:07, 24 September 2008 (UTC)

Re: Assessing

With 2 tagging, can you bot also assess the articles? Say if I mention that all schools get a mid rating? Regards, =Nichalp «Talk»= 14:06, 23 September 2008 (UTC)

It can assess only "|class=" based on other already done assessments on the same talk page , not the importance scale. If you want category:Schools in Mumbai to rated as mid importance, I can probably do with WP:AWB for you or if you want large scale for different categories, I need to code with regexp in AWB and file a BRFA too -- Tinu Cherian - 09:17, 24 September 2008 (UTC)

OJS

When I looked up the OJS page, it seems like it needs a lot of work. It's in the Computing Wikiproject. How can I find the people that can improve it? --MahaPanta (talk) 00:14, 26 September 2008 (UTC)

Post it at Computing Wikiproject talk page and may be at WP:FREE SOftware also . I have assessed it for WP:COMP project.-- Tinu Cherian - 15:58, 26 September 2008 (UTC)
Thanks. The article is in real bad shape. I hope the assesment you gave it will let people know it needs improvement. --MahaPanta (talk) 17:09, 26 September 2008 (UTC)

My RfA

Thank you for supporting me in my RfA, which passed with a count of (154/3/2). I appreciate the community's trust in me, and I will do my best to be sure it won't regret handing me the mop. I am honored by your trust and your support. Again, thank you. –Juliancolton Tropical Cyclone 19:16, 27 September 2008 (UTC)

vandalism on Bihar article

Hi Tinucherian

Someone has restored to vandalism on Bihar page using IP - 125.63.112.149 . Please Check his edits. Manoj nav (talk) 16:29, 28 September 2008 (UTC)

Good to see that you have restored the page yourself. Thanks. I have left a warning on User talk:125.63.112.149. -- Tinu Cherian - 04:28, 29 September 2008 (UTC)
Thank you for the advice. We are trying to improve articles related to Bihar. We plan to write new articles on Bihar covering specific topics like flood, famine, agriculture, economy, rivers, transportation systems, languages, naxalism, politics etc. I knew about Wikipedia:INBR, but I have not used it. Many of the editors who edit pages related to Bihar don't even know about it.
I am looking for a peer review of the article - Racism faced by Bihari Community in India. Even though the article is not yet complete, neutral feedbacks can help to improve it further. Manoj nav (talk) 08:17, 29 September 2008 (UTC)

Script for automatic banner placement

Hi Tinu, hope you're doing well. I intend to create a Wikiproject for articles related to the UAE soon. I remember that you were able to run a script a while back to automatically tag India-related articles a while back. If I can go through and review categories and sub-categories (with their member articles) under United Arab Emirates, how easy would it be to run a script to automatically tag them with the proposed Wikiproject banner? Thanks AreJay (talk) 01:02, 29 September 2008 (UTC)

Ya. Hope the same over there. Let me know once the Wikiproject is setup ( dont hesitate to ask me if u need any help , especially creating banner, WP 1.0 Assessment categories etc) . If already done, let me know of the project page , the banner and the categories to tag, My bot TinucherianBot will be happy to tag the articles in the categories. If you need I can provide u a list of ALL subcategories of Category:United Arab Emirates , which you can carefully inspect and remove all possible wrong categories before the tagging -- Tinu Cherian - 04:38, 29 September 2008 (UTC)
Excellent! Turns out that there already is a Wikiproject for the UAE, but hasn't really got going, so I will still be planning on doing what I outlined above. I'll need to cleanup the project page first and then start focusing on categories. I could definitely use a list of all sub-cats under Category:United Arab Emirates at that point. Will ping you in a day or so when the Wikiproject is in a better shape. Thanks again! AreJay (talk) 14:53, 29 September 2008 (UTC)
I guess Wikipedia:WikiProject United Arab Emirates is what u r refering to. Btw as of now the project articles uses WP:Western Asia unified banner with UAE parameter. -- Tinu Cherian - 14:58, 29 September 2008 (UTC)

Racism faced by Bihari community in India

Hi Tinucherian

The article Racism faced by Bihari community in India, has been systematically altered to change the voice of the article. A similar edit was done in the past as well. Kindly refer the discussion here - Talk:Violence_against_Hindi-speaking_migrants_in_India#cleanup .

A systematic attempt has been made to change the voice (and not the tone) of the article which I feel is equivalent to deleting the article, which was protested at Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Racism_faced_by_Bihari_people_in_India and writing a new article all together. The out come of the discussion ( Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Racism_faced_by_Bihari_people_in_India )was clearly against the deletion of the article.

I would request you to protect the article to it's previous edition titled " Discrimination against Biharis in India " till a agreement is reached. Thanks Manoj nav (talk) 17:51, 29 September 2008 (UTC)

Article on Religious violence in Orissa

Hi, I am the original contributor to the article [on violence in Orissa]. I have been seriously provoked by POV pushing and I need good and experienced editors to help me with how and what I need to be doing as well as help with the manner to properly present facts. As far as I know I have used extremely good citations (wsj, ToI, Reuters, Time etc.) and even put in a picture which was released on Commons that was supported by Times and Reuters. All has been shattered into pieces. Most admins coming into the picture are unaware of the topic and are trying to be neutral but falling into the provocative statements. The case is under cabal but nothing has progressed. Can you give an opinion and if possible contribution? If you have the time. The current protection is totally POV. Thanks, Recordfreenow (talk) 18:56, 29 September 2008 (UTC)
