Your assertions about the US being the center (note correct spelling) of the world are just silly, and your description of China, Russia and India as "rogue nations" is equally silly. It is not that easy for a US citizen to obtain a visa to visit Russia, for example; I know because I investigated the requirements while I was living in Sweden. Regardless, you are ignoring my main point, which is that you are simply removing this information from Wikipedia rather than ensuring that it is preserved in a different location. If you really do not think it belongs in this article, place it in a more appropriate article or create a new appropriate article, but do not simply remove it. Action Park

Thank you for your interest ("fascination", as you put it) with the article and helping to catalyze its improvement. It was my goal when I sat down and created it in January to write an article that would ultimately be encyclopedic, well-sourced, NPOV, but above all a good read. (I got a similar compliment shortly after its creation, too). I appreciate your interest and help.

Funny you should say that Dogpatch USA led you to it ... since that's a featured article, I looked it over as my model for what the Action Park article should be since I remembered its spin on the Main Page (One would not expect "Defunct amusement parks" to be a category especially ripe for FA generation, but never underestimate the power of some determined Wikipedians, especially the two guys from Arkansas who did the hard work there). I think Action Park is the best in that category after Dogpatch.

It can mostly be a bittersweet one to write about, I think ... especially when things remain standing after the park has closed (You may, in that vein, want to check out, in person as well as online, Jungle Habitat, another Weird NJ favorite from northwestern NJ). But Action Park was a fun story to tell ... I didn't expect to write so much on it, really.

Dogpatch, by contrast, is sad ... it's amazing they were able to keep that place going so long after not only Li'l Abner, but Al Capp himself, were gone (the real problem was that, by 1968, Capp had become a crusty old reactionary (which showed in the strip, badly) and the strip had jumped the shark in that it was never likely to find a new generation of readers).

I surfed around that category as well, and also found out about Opryland USA's demise that way ... seems they were ultimately doomed by a poor choice of location.

That's another problem with defunct amusement parks ... if they died a long time ago, there's not going to be anything on the web, really. New Jersey had some really small places, even below the Jungle Habitat radar, that are long gone that wouldn't show up. (Nothing comes up for Six Gun City, another place I remember from the White Mountains of New Hampshire that's probably long gone. (Except that it's [apparently still around. Maybe we should have a defunct amusement parks project ... after all, we have this.

I say start the article, and use that little post as a reference. I don't think anyone would mind. If someone marks it for deletion, let me know and I'll try to argue for it.

Actually, that ad isn't even the one I remember most ... later on they got more professional, rewrote the jingle a bit and it sounded better. Daniel Case 18:37, 28 August 2006 (UTC)

Just let it grow. That's the idea. Somebody will eventually take an interest in expanding it who has the knowledge. Or you might get a chance to do some research down in that area of LA (Try calling any of the local newspapers or libraries ... they might have some archives they could copy for you (for a nominal fee, of course)).

For my part, I have an email in to Weird NJ to ask Joanne Austin if she'd let me share her research material (Since I live in a county bordering Sussex, I could perhaps go down to Newton myself and look through similar archives, but that's an extravagance in time I can't affford right now). Yes, I saw that get removed. It seems we're going through another one of our great rounds of copyright paranoia (I spent much of today arguing against the idea of deleting most pictures of living people that are currently in use but not free-use on the grounds that a replacement free-use image could theoretically be created, or the creators of such images under fair use could be persuaded to change their licensing).

And as far as YouTube is concerned, I tend to agree. A lot of people had been linking to some severe copyvio material there ... music videos, whole episodes of TV shows, and it's been EL policy for a long time to not link to copyvio material (notice that song articles don't have links to lyrics pages).

I think you may be right about copyright being expired, but GAR may not necessarily be the current copyright owner. It may be the ad agency (if they used one, which I doubt). And the copyrights are an asset that might have been acquired by Intrawest along with the property.

Just about okay. It loads now (very very slowly so they've probably still got a server problem) but the page has way too many adverts for a normal "reference" and for example won't be allowed at the open directory for that reason. Actually, I changed my mind about that. Since Canadian English as a dialect has only really evolved in the last ~150 years it would be inappropriate to link to it from the pre-confederation colonies, especially BC which wasn't traditionaly part of "Canada" (i.e. Central Canada). Languages and Infobox Former Country

I have finally gotten around to fixing up the automation for language entries. If you now enter a single language, the template will first search for the entry "{{{common_languages}}} language". So if you enter simply "English", the infobox will now show [[English language|English]]. This only works of just ONE language is used. - 52 Pickup 08:20, 4 January 2007 (UTC)

You are correct. If you find any words like "you", "I", "we", "our", "your" etc they are supposed to be removed. I dont personally think it is too critical but if we dont remove it, someone else will later anyway.--Filll 22:55, 7 January 2007 (UTC)

Hi there! That vandalism is commited by sockpuppets of Cplot (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · nuke contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log), who has been banned for being a troll. See Wikipedia:Suspected sock puppets/Cplot for a incomplete list. There is an investigation going at 68.30.65.203 (talk • contribs • WHOIS • RDNS • RBLs • block user • block log). It has been suggested to semi protect the Village Pump talk page, but it was turned down because anonymous users may have inquiries. As you can see from the history of those pages, the user now only vandalizes with accounts, meaning we have effectively blocked all his IPs. We are likely to keep the soft blocks going until the investigation is done. The main crux of my problem with that is i admit i was wron gand acknowledge that on the talk pages and I object to some other user who was not editing at the time coming along a placing a warning on my talk page that is why i removed them. I am aware it i bed etiquete but i viewed the warnings as Unconstructive as TStein just placed the warnings there wih no interaction with me at all on either the talk page of the article or on my talk page.--Lucy-marie 02:12, 18 January 2007 (UTC)

Since you asked for input on the Help desk, I'm giving it to you.

• "Persons" is correct English, as was explained to you multiple times.
• You engaged in personal attacks at the RfC. That's not acceptable.
• You repeatedly made edits to Person that you knew were controversial.

Frankly, I think TStein was extraordinarily restrained in his or her comments. And contrary to what you seem to think, there is no obligation to engage in dialogue before placing a warning on someone's user talk page; it is common not to do so, in fact. Also, I have been unable to find anywhere at Talk:Person where you acknowledged that you were wrong about this issue, so I can understand why TStein still thought there was a danger you would perform those edits again. --Tkynerd 02:31, 18 January 2007 (UTC)

1900s century or decade? (re: Snow in Florida)

While I agree with your interpretation of what 1900s means, according to the MOS, it is specifically a decade. Thus changing the titles to 20th century, etc. was appropriate for Wikipedia. -- Flyguy649 03:22, 28 January 2007 (UTC)

Battle of Champion Hill

Hi Hal! I just reverted a change at Jackson, Mississippi; the change was to alter "Battle of Champion Hill" to "Battle of Champion's Hill". I find that Battle of Champion's Hill redirects to the main article on the battle. As a native Mississippian, I have never heard Champion Hill referred to as "Champion's Hill" before. I have heard that usage, but it's old. It's an example of evolving usage, accelerated by silly US Gov policies to shun apostrophes in place names. Similar ones that have changed are Stone's River, Harper's Ferry, and Sayler's Creek (now called Sailors Creek by the NPS!) http://www.civilwarhome.com/championhill.htm uses the old spelling, based on the ORs, presumably. I prefer to use the NPS naming and spelling unless there are mitigating circumstances. For example, in the Battle of Sayler's Creek article, I demonstrated how most modern historians use the original name, despite what the NPS says. Of course, Manassas/Bull Run is the really glaring example of NPS deviation. Hal Jespersen 17:41, 3 May 2007 (UTC)
