Spoiler warnings and edit summaries

Welcome to the Wikipedia. I have noticed your The West Wing related edits and I wanted to inform you about the usage of spoilers in the context of television shows. Although the epsiodes revealing information in the article may have already aired, not everyone has seen them. We have to view the information in the article as if we had never seen the show. What would be considered a spoiler for us? Frankly, everything would be. Therefore, I have replaced the spoiler tags that you removed on several articles. Also, when you are making edits to any article, please be sure to use an edit summary to let others know what you did. I hope you enjoy editing and stick around to help us out. Edit summaries are supposed to do just that: summarize your edit. So, sample edit summaries might be

• fixed minor grammar mistake
• reworded awkward sentence
• added {{wikify}} tag
• added paragraph his work at Bell Labs

For examples of edit summaries, go to my contributions and look at the summaries. They are in the parentheses next to each edit. If you have any questions about what any of the abbreviations mean, let me know. Edit summaries are very important to many editors here on Wikipedia; Usage of edit summaries is a noted characteristic of any editor when they decide to become an administrator. Sorry, but that's not sufficient - please do not create the articles until you have written original versions. Even if you intend to change it later, it's still a copyright violation. After looking at your contributions page it seems that you have created a large number of such articles recently. While your contributions are appreciated, Wikipedia is not a repository of content from other websites - it is a collection of original articles. Creating original content does not mean "fixing" copyvios, like implied in your comment on my talk page. — flamingspinach | (talk) 19:49, 2 March 2006 (UTC)

The best policy is probably just to write your articles from scratch, after doing research and learning about whatever your article is about. This will generally make it the most readable and avoid copyright problems to the greatest extent. Remember, just because an article on something doesn't exist, doesn't mean that you have to (or should) just create one. Articles deserve a little meat on their bones, and a little dedication from their creators. I tend to be the type to catch and fix errors, partly for that reason. When it comes to copyright, just remember that the only ways you can be totally sure that you're not violating copyright is to 1) write it from scratch or 2) get the author's explicit permission. — flamingspinach | (talk) 06:24, 3 March 2006 (UTC)

Sorry I didn't reply, I must have missed your question about Amateur radio in popular culture Rick Jones (comics) has a relation to Amateur radio in popular culture through the Teen Brigade. Thanks for uploading File:DCFC0014.JPG, which you've sourced to a friend of mine. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file agreed to license it under the given license.

If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

• make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
• Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-enwikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-enwikimedia.org.

WikiProject C-SPAN?

Greetings fellow Wikipedia editor -

I am leaving you this note because I have reason to believe that you are interested in C-SPAN. (I may have made this assumption based on your C-SPAN user box, or perhaps for some other reason.) If this is not an interest of yours, please feel free to read no further and delete this message.

If you are in fact someone who is interested in C-SPAN, then let me put forward an idea that I have been kicking around for a while. What if we started a C-SPAN WikiProject?

The parameters of this (potential) project are up for discussion, but it could include some or all of the following (as well as things that may occur to you that have not occurred to me):

• Creation, maintenance, and improvement of articles and lists directly related to C-SPAN and its programming.
• Use of C-SPAN programming in citations for various topics
• Inclusion of unique and targeted C-SPAN video links for various articles. (Doing this with respect for established guidelines at Wikipedia:External links.) (Example: If you are interested in the submarine USS Wyoming (SSBN-742), then having easy access to the eight hours of programming taped while a C-SPAN crew were guests on that submarine could also be of interest to you.)
• Inclusion of (and possible further creation of) templated links such as {{C-SPAN|laurabush}}, that will easily take article readers to a link of all C-SPAN Video Library links for the person about whom the article is about.
• What else?

I don't know exactly how far we may want to go, nor in what directions, but I do believe (as I have long noted on my user page) that C-SPAN and Wikipedia are both...

...fantastic vehicles for the free exchange of ideas and information in a non-sound-bite manner, and they both invite the participation of any parties (expert or amateur) who are interested in taking the time to absorb and/or contribute to the ideas and information offered. C-SPAN and Wikipedia go together like peanut butter and jelly, and I want to help give other Wiki users easy access to the great work that C-SPAN has done on a variety of topics.

Now, I should mention that I have never started a WikiProject before, and I do not know the best way to go about it. (Perhaps one of you do?) Let me offer one of my sandbox pages, User:KConWiki/sandbox/Wikiproject C-SPAN?, as a gathering area for comments until such time as we gather enough steam to start our own WikiProject page.

You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve.
