A tag has been placed on Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/Trinity Army requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article or image appears to be a clear copyright infringement. This article or image appears to be a direct copy from http://www.sundaytimes.lk/140302/sports/trinity-army-to-keep-sports-alive-87380.html. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.
If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. If you are not the owner of the external website or image but have permission from that owner, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. You might want to look at Wikipedia's policies and guidelines for more details, or ask a question here.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Conflict of interest
editHello, Trinityarmy123. We welcome your contributions to Wikipedia, but if you are affiliated with some of the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest.
All editors are required to comply with Wikipedia's neutral point of view content policy. People who are very close to a subject often have a distorted view of it, which may cause them to inadvertently edit in ways that make the article either too flattering or too disparaging. People with a close connection to a subject are not absolutely prohibited from editing about that subject, but they need to be especially careful about ensuring their edits are verified by reliable sources and writing with as little bias as possible.
If you are very close to a subject, here are some ways you can reduce the risk of problems:
- Avoid or exercise great caution when editing or creating articles related to you, your organization, or its competitors, as well as projects and products they are involved with.
- Avoid linking to the Wikipedia article or website of your organization in other articles (see Wikipedia:Spam).
- Exercise great caution so that you do not accidentally breach Wikipedia's content policies.
Please familiarize yourself with relevant content policies and guidelines, especially those pertaining to neutral point of view, verifiability of information, and autobiographies.
For information on how to contribute to Wikipedia when you have a conflict of interest, please see our frequently asked questions for organizations. Thank you. Tokyogirl79 (。◕‿◕。) 11:07, 3 June 2014 (UTC)
- I'm not against you having something about the group on Wikipedia, but I really want to make sure that you look over our guidelines for notability and reliable sources. To be honest, the article at AfC needs to be completely re-written. The list of vendors comes across as promotional (at worst) and at best it come across as WP:INDISCRIMINATE material. The tone comes across like you're writing for a personal webpage for the group and while that wouldn't be a problem elsewhere, it does need to be re-written for Wikipedia.
- So far the sources you have on Wikipedia are completely unusable to show notability. Please be aware that anything released by the college, the spirit group, alumni, or anyone that has something to do with the college is seen as a WP:PRIMARY source regardless of where it is posted, as in the case with press releases. Also, notability is WP:NOTINHERITED by the spirit group being affiliated with the school, so the group is not automatically notable because the school is. You would still have to have coverage that talks about the Trinity Army specifically and in-depth. Notifications of events are considered to be routine and do not count towards notability. Photographs are also considered to be unusable to show notability. A reliable source would be say, a major Sri Lankan newspaper covered the group and talked about it in depth.
- Also, please understand that we cannot accept WP:COPYVIO. Articles must be written in your own words. Even if the source material was written by you, the group, or given up as fair use, in most cases the text is written in a manner that promotes the subject (in this case the Trinity Army) and would require a complete re-write anyway.
- I think that the best thing to do here would be to write up a small, brief paragraph about the Trinity Army and include it in the article for Trinity College, Kandy. I don't think that this group would pass WP:NORG, but it would merit a mention in the overall article. I would also recommend that if you have any sources, that you run them through WP:RS/N, a noticeboard where people can go over the sources and let you know if they are usable or not. I would also recommend going to WP:SRI LANKA, a WikiProject devoted entirely to Sri Lanka related articles. You would likely find a lot of helpful people there that can help you when it comes to writing articles.
- I am willing to unblock you, but I do want to make sure that you read over all of this before doing any further editing. Tokyogirl79 (。◕‿◕。) 11:07, 3 June 2014 (UTC)
