- if there is no private information kept, then why is there a user number attached to the link? why not just a link to the survey? stmrlbs|talk 17:40, 5 February 2012 (UTC)
- private information is kept(the id number) but not published or used for anything else. The reason for the id number is that for the study a random sample needs to be obtained. This can only be achieved by sharing one invitation for each selected participant and not allowing participants that weren't invited to participate. In other words avoiding a volunteer sample which will "destroy" the results, in the sense that it won't be random anymore. So, one unique id for each invitation ensures that and for internet surveys that want a random sample from a population there is no other way to achieve this. - I made an honest effort to give truthful answers to your survey questions. Thank you for the link to the research page, which assures me that after "data are processed the results will be sent to [participants] personally." Canhelp (talk) 15:25, 6 February 2012 (UTC)
- Thank you very much :-). Yes, it may take a while for the results but i want to keep all the participants informed about the research. I was also thinking about badges or something like "i took part in a wiki survey" but i will have to run it first with the RCom and see if it is possible. Michael Tsikerdekis (talk) 17:29, 6 February 2012 (UTC)
I noticed that you have been doing a survey. I also noticed that you use the tag line, "Wikipedia is an open project by nature. Let’s create new knowledge for everyone." So here is my comment / Socratic question: Is the second sentence really what WP does? FeatherPluma (talk) 03:33, 26 March 2012 (UTC)
- Hi FeatherPluma. I guess it depends on your perspective. When editing you need to maintain verifiability, therefore no new knowledge is being created. When conducting research however and then publishing the results then new knowledge is created and the verifiability clause still holds. Btw, my use of the term knowledge is really loose here. Within a scientific context the word 'information' may be more appropriate. Michael Tsikerdekis (talk) 07:16, 26 March 2012 (UTC)
Research Participation Barnstar
editThank you for your interest in listing the Research Participation Barnstar in WP:BARNSTARS. However, if you would like a barnstar to be added to the list, please first discuss it at WikiProject Wikipedia Awards talk page. I have removed the barnstar from the list, but you can nominate it on the Awards Talk Page for inclusion. Pinetalk 09:51, 9 February 2012 (UTC)
- Yeap, sorry about that. I probably should have asked first but didn't know the exact process. I'll open a new topic there. Michael Tsikerdekis (talk) 10:52, 9 February 2012 (UTC)
New message
editI left you a reply in the barnstar conversation. Sorry for the lack of clarity on my part. Cloveapple (talk) 16:10, 10 February 2012 (UTC)
- You have another. Your image doesn't seem to have uploaded properly. Cheers, benzband (talk) 15:20, 13 February 2012 (UTC)
Re:Barnstar
editAh, thank you! I'm more than happy to aid the Wikipedia community and its individual contributors. I also am welcome to awards, so, much obliged! ;) DarthBotto talk•cont 19:39, 14 February 2012 (UTC)
- Thank you very much as well for your participation. I wanted to give to all the participants something as a thank you and as of today there is a new barnstar for research participation which i plan to give to all of you at the end of this month. Michael Tsikerdekis (talk) 20:13, 15 February 2012 (UTC)
- So is it time for that barnstar? :) DarthBotto talk•cont 06:18, 01 March 2012 (UTC)
- Yes, i just gave it you today. I try to award at least 25 participants per day but given that you are 250(aside from those that didn't participate), unless somebody writes me personally, he or she will have to wait for his turn. Michael Tsikerdekis (talk) 08:59, 1 March 2012 (UTC)

Thank you for your invitation to participate in a Wikimedia-approved survey in online behavior.
editHello Michael Tsikerdekis,
Hope you well and doing good. I'm very happy to get your invitation to participate in a Wikimedia-approved survey in online behavior. I'm very sorry for my delay. Regards of your invitation as soon as possible I'll be taking the survey. Unless to say that I'm very grateful to you that you selected me from the list of active editors.
Feel free to ask or suggest me if there anything more that I could do to make you happier, I'll be at your service.
Sincerely Sumon Rahman
- Hi Sumon and thank you very much for your kinds words and support for my research. I believe the results will definately be of benefit to all Wikipedia editors and interesting. I plan to award each one of you a barnstar as well as notify you when the results will be ready and published. Michael Tsikerdekis (talk) 20:18, 15 February 2012 (UTC)
Hi Michael, I've just done your survey. One question in particular, Q7: my behaviour would be severely constrained by English law - you can't just fire someone over here! Incidentally there is no English word "Friendlist". Number774 (talk) 20:26, 16 February 2012 (UTC)
- Hi Number774 and thank you for taking part in the survey. It's okay if you are restricted by law or otherwise about your options. I don't test what choices people will make under these scenarios but if you are going to stick to your original choice even if your people go against it and see what happens under different anonymity states. PS: The "friendlist" indeed should have been two words but somehow it got skipped when spell checking. :-) Michael Tsikerdekis (talk) 21:13, 16 February 2012 (UTC)
