Company profile of Power Ledger deleted
During talk regarding deletion of the english version of the Power Ledger article, various notable sources were discussed but ignored and subsequently the page was deleted before it could be edited/updated to have them included. Power Ledger is an actively operating software company that happens to use blockchain as part of its tech-stack, which seems to have attracted negative attention from David Gerard, who's earned a reputation for filibustering talks and vandalising articles regarding real-world implementations of blockchain technology. Previous talks were also unproductive due to filibustering from David but a 'no consensus' was reached. Can the article please be reinstated so it can be updated with new information and sources (including multiple independent reports from major Australian media outlets and information on notable completed and ongoing projects with major international renewable energy providers and government agencies)? -- Warporter (talk) 07:56, 7 December 2020 (UTC)
- (talk page stalker)@Warporter: articles deleted through an AfD cannot be reinstated. However, I can make a copy for you in your userspace if you want to work on a version that is substantially different and is more in line with our policies. --RegentsPark (comment) 14:19, 7 December 2020 (UTC)
That’d be really helpful, and I’m sure there’s been enough new developments to make a solid article so happy to work on it, thankyou! Warporter (talk) 16:00, 9 December 2020 (UTC)
- I've restored it at User:Warporter/Power Ledger. Note that it will need to be substantially different if it is to be moved back to wikispace. --RegentsPark (comment) 16:50, 9 December 2020 (UTC)

Welcome to the 2021 WikiCup!
Happy New Year and Happy New WikiCup! The competition begins today and all article creators, expanders, improvers and reviewers are welcome to take part. If you have already signed up, your submissions page can be found here. If you have not yet signed up, you can add your name here and the judges will set up your submissions page. Any questions on the rules or on anything else should be directed to one of the judges, or posted to the WikiCup talk page. Signups will close at the end of January, and the first round will end on 26 February; the 64 highest scorers at that time will move on to round 2. We thank Vanamonde93 and Godot13, who have retired as judges, and we thank them for their past dedication. The judges for the WikiCup this year are Sturmvogel 66 (talk · contribs · email) and Cwmhiraeth (talk · contribs · email). Good luck! MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 11:11, 1 January 2021 (UTC)
Jack Podlesny re-creation
Hi! I created a page on UGA kicker Jack Podlesny in early August, and you deleted because he was not notable enough, which I agree with at the point. However, over the course of the season, he became the starting placekicker and just yesterday was awarded the Offensive MVP Award at the Peach Bowl. I believe this gives him enough noteriety to have a wikipedia page created for him. Let me know your thoughts! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Gcjimmerson (talk • contribs) 16:23, 2 January 2021 (UTC)
- @Gcjimmerson: Thanks for checking. The relevant criteria are WP:GNG and WP:GRIDIRON; Podlesny needs to meet one of those to be considered notable. Football isn't my area of expertise, so I may be missing something, but I understand the Peach Bowl is a collegiate match, and so I do not see how it counts towards GRIDIRON. Best, Vanamonde (Talk) 16:34, 2 January 2021 (UTC)
- @Vanamonde93: So it looks like the criteria for college players falls under WP:NCOLLATH. I believe he meets one, if not two, of the criteria. One, he hit the game winning field goal as the game closed to beat a Cincinnati in the Peach Bowl. He has garnered national attention for his efforts; if you google his name, you should be able to see this. Additionally, winning the Peach Bowl Offensive MVP is a notable award, which, while not listed in the awards section, is still an award that should be listed on a wikipedia infobox for a football athlete. Please let me know if this meets the notability requirements!
- @Gcjimmerson: It's true that NCOLLATH provides additional criteria. However, I don't think you're right about the award being a major national award; and if he genuinely got national media attention, then that should be easy to demonstrate...regardless, I'm not the best person to advise you about this (remember, I only closed the deletion discussion, I did not initiate it or support deletion); I'd recommend asking the football wikiproject. Vanamonde (Talk) 16:50, 2 January 2021 (UTC)
Ok thanks! I will do that; your help is much appreciated. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Gcjimmerson (talk • contribs) 16:52, 2 January 2021 (UTC)

I wish to challenge your deletion of my wiki page Tom Theo Klemesrud
What are the steps I must take?
Tomklem (talk) 21:16, 8 January 2021 (UTC)
- @Tomklem: Your first step would be to contact me, and ask me to modify my closure; but I'll save you the trouble, because I'm not going to do that. Your second step would be to open a discussion at WP:DRV. However, I'm a little concerned that you're not taking the warnings on your talk page seriously. I understand that you'd want to have a page about yourself; who doesn't? But given a consensus in a community discussion that there wasn't sufficient evidence of notability, it doesn't look great for you to be advocating to overturn that result. I would suggest you drop this matter, and look to make useful contributions elsewhere. Vanamonde (Talk) 21:52, 8 January 2021 (UTC)
I'm not going to drop it. It was notable for 13 years, then I was written out of history, by politically biased editors and admins here engaging in CANCEL CULTURE. Talk to you later Tomklem (talk) 22:14, 8 January 2021 (UTC)

If you will not reply to my rebuttal of your warning on my talk page, then do NOT post a baseless warning on my talk page. I added the references to clarify that what was called 'Iranian' in the Indo-Aryan page had inter-mixed with South Asian and that BMAC ancestry as origin of South Asians has been disproven, it is from Central Asia instead. The citations clearly state that. Practice your heavy handedness elsewhere. Liberalvedantin (talk) 23:04, 8 January 2021 (UTC)
- You're misrepresenting what I wrote. I said I wouldn't discuss the content; not that I wouldn't discuss my warning. Your edit implied that Indo-Aryans began migrating to South Asia 12,000 years ago. That is not supported by the source, and is therefore original research. If you meant not to imply that, then my warning is still justified. I'm not interested in what you meant to imply; that is a discussion for the talk page, because it is a content matter. Vanamonde (Talk) 23:28, 8 January 2021 (UTC)
- They don't understand the theory; no author is arguing for a BMAC-related genetical influence on India. Joshua Jonathan -Let's talk! 05:24, 9 January 2021 (UTC)
- @Joshua Jonathan: The population genetics of BMAC aren't my speciality, but the error I warned them for is considerably more basic; if the paper doesn't discuss Indo-Aryan populations, it shouldn't be cited for content about Indo-Aryan migrations, period. Vanamonde (Talk) 16:33, 9 January 2021 (UTC)

Ref help?
I am working on a project which is probably going to be in development for a year or better. Sourcing is difficult to come by, as most sources on nationality don't even discuss the problem of women losing their nationality or gloss over it, as if it never happened. Searching for sources for Ecuador, I ran across a reference to a work, Nacionalidad, naturalización y ciudadanía en Hispano-América, but from what I can tell the only accessible digitization is not available to me (I don't attend a partner university and am not visually impaired). So, I decided to scrap it and look elsewhere, but then I found this which appears to have been part of the work serialized in the Bulletin of the Academia de Ciencias Políticas y Sociales. From the article on Ecuador, I can see that he actually discusses the problems faced by women. Unfortunately, they only did 9 articles, which cover Argentina, Chile, Cuba, the Dominican Republic, and Ecuador. I cannot find any copy of the book for sale and interlibrary loan is out of the question, as there are no public libraries here which loan books to be taken outside of their facilities or have exchange services. I cannot get the book from the Resource Exchange as they are unable to provide full books. Got any ideas? SusunW (talk) 16:17, 9 January 2021 (UTC)
- Oh dear, this is hard...it seems to have been digitized, but thanks to copyright rules, the digital edition can only be searched, not read, and that's all I have access to. Also, the link to WorldCat is broken, but I did manage to find a listing here. Your best bet might be finding someone who can get the book (perhaps via interlibrary loan?) and then work with you on it, rather than sending it to you, which of course wouldn't be possible...Sorry I can't be of more help. Hey Vanamonde,

- @Vice regent: I think your tone and language have been better than most others on that page, but you have often been just as reluctant to offer compromise with respect to content. Your latest proposal is a step in the right direction, but it's only a small step. If the article is ever to comply with our guidelines for size and summary style, considerably more compromise is needed. Vanamonde (Talk) 17:07, 22 February 2021 (UTC)

- @Mhhossein: What I've told VR is applicable to most people on that page. You have gotten so entrenched in your respective positions that you've lost sight of any larger encyclopedic goals. Compromise is necessary, if that article is to ever be readable; and that means both accepting suggestions and changes that you think aren't ideal, and also working to offer alternatives to changes you don't like. WikiCup 2021 March newsletter
Round 1 of the competition has finished; it was a high-scoring round with 21 contestants scoring more than 100 points. Everyone with a positive score moves on to Round 2, with 55 contestants qualifying. You will need to finish among the top thirty-two contestants in Round 2 if you are to qualify for Round 3. Our top scorers in Round 1 were:
- Epicgenius led the field with a featured article, nine good articles and an assortment of other submissions, specialising on buildings and locations in New York, for a total of 945 points.
- Bloom6132 was close behind with 896 points, largely gained from 71 "In the news" items, mostly recent deaths.
- ImaginesTigers, who has been editing Wikipedia for less than a year, was in third place with 711 points, much helped by bringing League of Legends to featured article status, exemplifying how bonus points can boost a contestant's score.
- Amakuru came next with 708 points, Kigali being another featured article that scored maximum bonus points.
- Ktin, new to the WikiCup, was in fifth place with 523 points, garnered from 15 DYKs and 34 "In the news" items.
- The Rambling Man scored 511 points, many from featured article candidate reviews and from football related DYKs.
- Gog the Mild, last year's runner-up, came next with 498 points, from a featured article and numerous featured article candidate reviews.
- Hog Farm, at 452, scored for a featured article, four good articles and a number of reviews.
- Le Panini, another newcomer to the WikiCup, scored 438 for a featured article and three good articles.
- Lee Vilenski, last year's champion, scored 332 points, from a featured article and various other sport-related topics.
These contestants, like all the others, now have to start again from scratch. In Round 1, contestants achieved eight featured articles, three featured lists and one featured picture, as well as around two hundred DYKs and twenty-seven ITNs. They completed 97 good article reviews, nearly double the 52 good articles they claimed. Contestants also claimed for 135 featured article and featured list candidate reviews. There is no longer a requirement to mention your WikiCup participation when undertaking these reviews.
Remember that any content promoted after the end of Round 1 but before the start of Round 2 can be claimed in Round 2. Invitations for collaborative writing efforts or any other discussion of potentially interesting work is always welcome on the WikiCup talk page. Remember, if two or more WikiCup competitors have done significant work on an article, all can claim points. If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is a good article candidate, a featured process, or something else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews.
If you want to help out with the WikiCup, please do your bit to keep down the review backlogs! Dreamsnake
Hello again. I just wanted to say a belated congratulations on the promotion of Dreamsnake to a FA status. I greatly appreciate and respect your work on female sci-fi writers. I have never heard of this book before, and after reading through the article, I am genuinely interested in checking it out. This FAC also inspired to possibly work on the The Crystal Star star (a far less well-received novel by Vonda N. McIntyre) in the future lol. Anyway, just wanted to say my congratulations on this. Aoba47 (talk) 04:47, 7 March 2021 (UTC)
- @Aoba47: Thank you! Always nice to be appreciated. I can't say I'm familiar with The Crystal Star, though I know McIntyre's Star Wars/Star Trek work was not viewed favorably by critics. Vanamonde (Talk) 04:52, 7 March 2021 (UTC)
- Of course! I only know about The Crystal Star because it is one of the most-hated Star Wars novels, and for whatever reason, I find that to be an interesting reason to explore it further. I would imagine that it could be quite difficult to write stories based on major franchises, like Star Wars and Star Trek, given how much a fanbase is invested in the material and has his or her own interpretations of the characters and universe. Aoba47 (talk) 04:56, 7 March 2021 (UTC)
- Yeah, and for that reason it has rarely been a genre that appealed to me; but it has its place. I did enjoy some of the Star Trek short stories, from the 60s, but that's a very different format. Vanamonde (Talk) 17:11, 7 March 2021 (UTC)

Intractable Balkans matters
Hey. All I can say is that I welcome any bold approach to moderate the conduct of several of the Balkans regulars who are featured in that report. Much respect to anyone who dares to tread in that walls of text minefield of content which is of relative obscurity (especially pre-modern history and/or language disputes). But as to what to do, specifically, that I don't know. My sense, though, that an escalation is called for. Best, El_C 22:12, 10 March 2021 (UTC)
- Yeah, the more I dug into those diffs, the larger the number grew of editors conducting themselves poorly. I'm worried that AE doesn't have the resources to resolve the issue; but few people have the stamina to file an ARBCOM case, either. Vanamonde (Talk) 23:44, 10 March 2021 (UTC)
- I'm not sure how to frame this, so I'll just blurt it out. Admins at AE often focus on non-content -related conduct. Repeated NPA/civility breaches makes matters simple, and I'm not saying it shouldn't take priority, especially when entering the realm of harassment. But what I find (and maybe it's just me) is that the endless, as you call it, "argumentation" (and I'd add also WP:TE- to it as a suffix) often is the root of such misconduct. Both sides engage in it, both sides suffer its grating effects, and both sides falter with occasional outbursts over it.
- Not unique to this topic area, of course, but similar to the Balkans, several topic areas which are relatively obscure to the average English speaker, like WP:ARBAA2 or the new WP:ARBKURDS, do not make it easy to tell what's what (concerning reliability, up to and including fabrications outright). How to best tackle this problematic, that I don't know (again). But identifying what is happening down in the trenches is undoubtedly an important part of any possible amelioration to this perennial problem. El_C 01:00, 13 March 2021 (UTC)
- @El C: Sorry for taking a while to reply; been pre-ocupied off-wiki. I agree that we tend to focus on tone, broadly speaking, over substance, when assessing conduct matters; and this is a problem. I think the tendentious editing you mention is an obvious example of civil-but-problematic conduct; I'd argue the problem is wider, in that we have a number of users, even very experienced ones, who are utterly unable to separate content work in contentious areas from their personal POV. This is bad enough in well-understood areas; in obscure topics it becomes utterly intractable. With respect to the MEK, for instance, I am sorely tempted to abandon the administrator hat and dive into the source material myself; in the absence of anyone willing to treat the source material in its entirety (rather than cherry-picking), the trench warfare on the talk seems set to continue indefinitely. And that's far from the only arena where it's a concern; I honestly would rather discuss other ones over email, if you want to carry on this conversation. Vanamonde (Talk) 22:54, 14 March 2021 (UTC)
- Vanamonde, go for it. I'm always up for privately corresponding with you. Best, El_C 16:09, 15 March 2021 (UTC)

Editor of the Week
Editor of the Week | ||
Your ongoing efforts to improve the encyclopedia have not gone unnoticed: You have been selected as Editor of the Week in recognition of your positive impact. Thank you for the great contributions! (courtesy of the Wikipedia Editor Retention Project) |
User:Gog the Mild submitted the following nomination for Editor of the Week:
- A tireless worker in the engine room of Wikipedia. They work on a wide range of maintenance activities that helps give us all this vast playground which we take for granted. They also produce impeccable FACs on speculative fiction - they may as well be given a pass to save the reviewer effort. They have created 12 FA's and 48 GA's. Their interests in other mainspace topics is impressively broad: Guatemalan politics, South African music, specialised biology, Abu Ghraib, Indian politics, you name it. Certainly an editor who should be encouraged to do more of what they are doing.

- @Gog the Mild: that's very kind of you indeed. It's always nice to be appreciated; double so in a week when what little time I've had for Wikipedia was swallowed whole by AE, which is always a thankless venue to work in. I did notice some weeks ago that someone had pre-empted me from nominating you, for all the hard work you put in at FAC, so let me just add that it's much appreciated. - Following a request for comment, F7 (invalid fair-use claim) subcriterion a has been deprecated; it covered immediate deletion of non-free media with invalid fair-use tags.
- Following a request for comment, page movers were granted the

Dreamsnake scheduled for TFA
This is to let you know that the Dreamsnake article has been scheduled as today's featured article for April 6, 2021. Please check the article needs no amendments. If you're interested in editing the main page text, you're welcome to do so at Wikipedia:Today's featured article/April 6, 2021, but note that a coordinator will trim the lead to around 1000 characters anyway, so you aren't obliged to do so.
For Featured Articles promoted recently, there will be an existing blurb linked from the FAC talk page, which is likely to be transferred to the TFA page by a coordinator at some point.
We suggest that you watchlist Wikipedia:Main Page/Errors from the day before this appears on Main Page. Thanks! Jimfbleak - talk to me? 14:15, 13 March 2021 (UTC)

India/Pakistan DS
I don't really think this is canvassing (we have roughly the same view, but it seems to fall under the 'letting people who are interested know neutrally' exception), but there's been a lot of comment on the ARBIPA case at the DS community comment page, and since the Arbs seemed to want to deal with it there, you might be better commenting there than at the ARCA. - @TonyBallioni: Thanks for the heads-up. I've been meaning to plough through the RfC, but simply haven't found the time. I'll try to take a look soon. Vanamonde (Talk) 03:32, 18 April 2021 (UTC)
discussion: move Bitcoin SV to its own article
Hi
In 2018 you closed the request to delete the Bitcoin SV page with the decision to redirect to Bitcoin Cash.
I like to update you that I have created the talk section move Bitcoin SV to its own article to discuss if the redirect should be removed and Bitcoin SV moved to its own article.
torusJKL (talk) 12:52, 21 April 2021 (UTC)
- Gal Buki, your link points to a discussion closed a long time ago; I think you meant to refer to this post? Regardless; I think you ought not to be attempting recreating that article without multiple substantive sources that are newer than the previous discussion. If you have such sources, writing a draft article and sending it to WP:AFC would likely be the best way to go about this; you could also solicit comments at the talk page of Bitcoin Cash. Vanamonde (Talk) 15:36, 21 April 2021 (UTC)
- Vanamonde93 Yes, you are right, I didn't realize that I copied the wrong link. 1 source is from February, the other 3 are from March, meaning all of them are newer than the previous discussions. I didn't know the draft approach. I will look into this. Thanks --torusJKL (talk) 16:51, 21 April 2021 (UTC)
