Hi, please leave messages below:-

To explain about Hugh MacCaghwell: it isn't great that you classified two further external links as "references" along with the CE link. That one link might be debatable, but as there is a special template provided to note that CE text is used, it seems to me reasonable just to leave the links as such. Overlinking

edit

Only make links that are relevant to the context of the article.

  • Provide links that aid navigation and understanding.
  • Avoid obvious, redundant, and useless links.

An article may be overlinked if any of the following is true:

  • The links ... have little significance in the context of the article
  • Low added-value items are linked without reason — such as, 1995, 1980s, and 20th century
  • A link for any single term is excessively repeated in the same article

Wikipedia has articles on days of the year, years, decades, centuries and millennia. As a general rule of thumb, link to one of these pages only if it is likely to deepen readers' understanding of a topic.

I recommend you remove all the date links you added to List of Now That's What I Call Music! albums because it offers no significant value to the topic. --Wolfer68 (talk) 18:06, 11 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Linking dates allows users to customise how the dates appear, thruogh Special:Preferences. They aren't linked to provide context, they are linked for the benefit of readers. --Vergency (talk) 18:38, 11 March 2008 (UTC)Reply
Then I'm confused. Why would you need to change the UK series dates to UK style dating (e.g. 7 February 2007) and keep US dating (e.g. February 7, 2007) on the US series, if the autoformatting takes care of that?--Wolfer68 (talk) 19:19, 11 March 2008 (UTC)Reply
There isn't a reason, just preferable to keep UK dates in UK style and vice versa. What matters most is that they are linked. --Vergency (talk) 19:24, 11 March 2008 (UTC)Reply
Yes, because that is the most important thing. Looks like you've got a lot of work ahead of you. --Wolfer68 (talk) 19:41, 11 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

I agree with Hu12 that the page falls under Wikipedia:NOT#INTERNET... But I've salvaged the data, and I'll look for an appropriate place to put it, like maybe a commercial wiki. If you'd like, I'll try to remember to post back here when I find such a place. --Jesdisciple (talk) 21:36, 17 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Hi, thanks for yuor support - and if you feel I snapped at you during the discussions :). Anyways, I'm just wondering if you would like to (or if you wish, I will) to add your addressed comments in to a [show] box then list your support where the others are? If you don't want too, I will - but its up to you. Thanks in advance, Qst (talk) 21:48, 19 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

You can if you like - I dunno if I'd be able to make one of those boxes :P --Vergency (talk) 22:01, 19 March 2008 (UTC)Reply
Okay, so you don't mind if I move your support down the bottom of the page (by writing *'''Support'''. <your sig>) and archive your other comments? Qst (talk) 22:15, 19 March 2008 (UTC)Reply
Sounds good to me :) --Vergency (talk) 22:20, 19 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Unreferenced BLPs

edit

Hello Vergency! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot alerting you that 3 of the articles that you created are tagged as Unreferenced Biographies of Living Persons. The biographies of living persons policy requires that all personal or potentially controversial information be sourced. In addition, to ensure verifiability, all biographies should be based on reliable sources. If you were to bring these articles up to standards, it would greatly help us with the current 8 article backlog. Once the articles are adequately referenced, please remove the {{unreferencedBLP}} tag. Here is the list:

  1. Geoffrey Regan - Find sources: Google (books · news · scholar · free images · WP refs· FENS · JSTOR · TWL
  2. Marsali Stewart - Find sources: Google (books · news · scholar · free images · WP refs· FENS · JSTOR · TWL
  3. Judy Parker - Find sources: Google (books · news · scholar · free images · WP refs· FENS · JSTOR · TWL

Proposed deletion of Judy Parker

edit

The article Judy Parker has been proposed for deletion because, under Wikipedia policy, all biographies of living persons created after March 18, 2010, must have at least one reliable source that directly supports material in the article.

If you created the article, please don't take offense. Instead, consider improving the article. For help on inserting references, see Referencing for beginners, or ask at the help desk. Once you have provided at least one reliable source, you may remove the {{prod blp}} tag. Please do not remove the tag unless the article is sourced. If you cannot provide such a source within ten days, the article may be deleted, but you can request that it be undeleted when you are ready to add one. ArbCom elections are now open!

edit

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Speedy deletion nomination of Judy Parker

edit

Hello, Vergency,

Welcome to Wikipedia! I edit here too, under the username Xx236, and I thank you for your contributions.

I wanted to let you know, however, that I have tagged Judy Parker for deletion, because it doesn't appear to contain any encyclopedic content. You may find our guide for writing quality articles to be extremely informative. Also, you may want to consider working on future articles in draft space first, where they cannot be deleted for lacking content.

If you feel that the article shouldn't be deleted and want more time to work on it, you can contest this deletion but please don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top. If the page is already deleted by the time you come across this message and you wish to retrieve the deleted material, please contact the deleting administrator.

For any further query, please leave a comment here and prepend it with {{Re|Xx236}}. And, don't forget to sign your reply with ~~~~ . Thanks!

edit

Hello, Vergency

Welcome to Wikipedia! I edit here too, under the username Xx236, and I thank you for your contributions.

I wanted to let you know, however, that I’ve proposed an article that you started, Judy Parker, for deletion because it's a biography of a living person that lacks references. To prevent the deletion, please add a reference to the article. You may remove the deletion tag yourself once the article has at least one reliable source.

If you have any questions, please leave a comment here and prepend it with {{Re|Xx236}}. And, don't forget to sign your reply with ~~~~ . Thanks!

Deletion discussion about Judy Parker

edit

Hello, Vergency, and welcome to Wikipedia. I edit here too, under the username Xx236, and I thank you for your contributions.

I wanted to let you know, however, that I've started a discussion about whether an article that you created, Judy Parker, should be deleted, as I am not sure that it is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia in its current form. Your comments are welcome at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Judy Parker.

You might like to note that such discussions usually run for seven days and are not ballot-polls. And, our guide about effectively contributing to such discussions is worth a read. Last but not least, you are highly encouraged to continue improving the article; just be sure not to remove the tag about the deletion nomination from the top.

If you have any questions, please leave a comment here and prepend it with {{Re|Xx236}}. And, don't forget to sign your reply with ~~~~ . Thanks!
