Tag Bombing

Please do not WP:TAGBOMB articles, as you did at The Heroes Productions (film company). Adding more than 3-4 tags is considered disruptive. If you are adding tags, add the 3 most relevant ones and stop there. In cases like the one above, that clearly are not notable, they should be tagged for deletion instead. — Insertcleverphrasehere (or here)(click me!) 17:06, 20 December 2018 (UTC)

@Insertcleverphrasehere: thanks for the information. I dont knew that yet - Wikipedia's ruleset is big and spread across hundreds of pages. Victor Schmidt (talk) 17:09, 20 December 2018 (UTC)

Rollback granted

Hi Victor Schmidt. After reviewing your request for "rollbacker", I have added rollback on your account. Keep in mind these things when going to use rollback:

  • Getting rollback is no more momentous than installing Twinkle.
  • Rollback should be used to revert clear cases of vandalism only, and not good faith edits.
  • Rollback should never be used to edit war.
  • If abused, rollback rights can be revoked.
  • Use common sense.

If you no longer want rollback, contact me and I'll remove it. Also, for some more information on how to use rollback, see Wikipedia:Administrators' guide/Rollback (even though you're not an admin). I'm sure you'll do great with rollback, but feel free to leave me a message on my talk page if you run into troubles or have any questions about appropriate/inappropriate use of rollback. Thank you for helping to reduce vandalism. Happy editing! — xaosflux Talk 16:16, 9 January 2019 (UTC)

International School of Curitiba Update

Hi, Victor. I have just received your message and I disagree. I have updated the page with important information about the ISC curriculum and it was not in a promotional way. Anna Budko

Hello Victor, I have changed this article, because it was false, it wrongly described Randy Fine, politician from Florida House of Representatives. It was obviously done by his enemies.

Here is Randy Fine's official page: https://www.myfloridahouse.gov/Sections/Representatives/details.aspx?MemberId=4646&LegislativeTermId=88 You can find my name there as well, I'm his legislative Aide.

Here is the link to his FB page: https://www.facebook.com/voterandyfine/

I'm sorry I've destroyed something, I'm not an experienced user.

I'm not sure how to make sure such content do not appear again.

Thanks, Anna — Preceding unsigned comment added by Anna Budko (talkcontribs) 17:53, 19 January 2019 (UTC)

I dont find the content you removed. The only thing you removed was a Help:Template showing the other members of this House of Representatives and some Help:Categorys. Victor Schmidt (talk) 18:28, 19 January 2019 (UTC)

Yes, please delete this page https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Randy_Fine

Please delete this page. If the wrong & miss-leading content appears again, we will have to report it to the authorities to find who is behind that. Thanks! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Anna Budko (talkcontribs) 18:23, 19 January 2019 (UTC)

Sorry, I dont have the permission to delete pages on english wikipedia. Furthermore, Wikipedia is never the place where an information appears first. Also, who is "we"? Please also keep in mind that Legal threats are not allowed on Wikipedia in some cases (refer that page for detail). And if you are Randy Fine, or were engaged to delete this information, please write a mail to info-en-q@wikipedia.org Victor Schmidt (talk) 18:38, 19 January 2019 (UTC)

Those Who Inspire Ltd Wiki Page

Hello Victor,

I am contacting you regarding the creation of a wiki page for Those Who Inspire Ltd. I understand you are the administrator in charge of the speedy deletion.

I would like to know better the reasons of the deletion since I don't find it at all promotional but rather informative and useful for the young people around the world to know more about an amazing source of inspiration that has helped me to find my way. It's a tribute to them.

What could you advise me to do so that it says as a tribute and not be considered as a promotion by Wikipedia?

Thanks. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Nicoleta1992 (talkcontribs) 19:04, 19 January 2019 (UTC)

No, I am not the administrator who deleted it. I was that guy who placed the speedy deletion tag. Howewer, marking a page for speedy deletion and deleting it i technically not the same. Furthermore, I am no admin here, so I dont be able to (un)delete pages, while everyone is able to mark pages as speedy deletioncandidates. Victor Schmidt (talk) 14:43, 20 January 2019 (UTC)

Lucy Hooper

Hello. I'm baffled by the The neutrality of this article is disputed template you pasted within 3 minutes of me creating the article on Lucy Hooper. Everything, so far, is 19th-c PD so please help me understand your point of view. Thank you. --Rosiestep (talk) 16:17, 22 March 2019 (UTC)

What brought me to place this template was the "Biography" section in this version. I see you changed it since I placed the template. To be exact, "[...] a highly respectable merchant of Newburyport [...]", "[...] affected her very deeply " "[...] greatly admired and widely copied [...]" looked a bit suspicious like advertising. I know that you opinion is probbably different, because I know that from some more obvivios self-promoting pages. Sorry when I was a bit faster than the usual editor placing the template. Victor Schmidt (talk) 16:28, 22 March 2019 (UTC)
No worries. I WP:AGF that you didn't notice that the article was entirely 19th-c PD, ergo the flowery wording, which, of course, gets edited out only after the original PD content is placed in an article. Best, --Rosiestep (talk) 16:40, 22 March 2019 (UTC)
Nobody is perfect (and it would be probbably be boring if everyone would be). Happy Editing! Victor Schmidt (talk) 16:42, 22 March 2019 (UTC)

Questioning your message to me

Hello matey, Sorry for the late response. You know how life is down the club but cause of lockdown I’m here to talk. I do not see how my editing was disruptive. Could you please explain this all to me. Don’t ban me I love it here on the wiki. ScarlettCheese (talk) 21:16, 7 April 2020 (UTC)

Oh amazing. I diddn't even remember this until I saw it was 1 year ago... Well, as you may or may not noticed, I reverted not only your version but also the version by the IP before. Wikipedia as an encyclopedia doesn't simpy sax "XXX is gay this is the truth". The core principle here is Verifability, not truth. Futher, I don't see any reason why we should talk about some random Wiliam in a page titled Debel. Thats presumably why I warned you as well. You may want to have a look at WP:Vandalism. If you want to make further edits related in that way (including the ones from yesterday) please use the Sandbox for that. Victor Schmidt (talk) 06:19, 8 April 2020 (UTC)

Redirect message

Hi Victor, hope you don't mind me asking for a bit of help. As you'll have seen I recently moved the article 'Helena Slizynska' from my sandbox to Wikipedia, but I still have a 'This page is a redirect' message in my sandbox. Any idea how to remove or rectify this please? Many thanks, Clare ClareB (talk) 11:05, 9 April 2020 (UTC)

@ClareB: Click "Edit", remove #REDIRECT [[Helena Slizynska]] along with {{Redirect category shell|{{R from move}}}} then hit save. Victor Schmidt (talk) 11:11, 9 April 2020 (UTC)

Many thanks Victor, I was having trouble deleting but it seems to be sorted now. ClareB (talk) 11:20, 9 April 2020 (UTC)

Question

Hello Victor, i need your help with my issue please i am trying to add an album page for an Egyptian singer, as i added the album songs list and all the info. about the album but my submission wasn't accepted at first, then i added an external link as a reference which was a link from the company produced the album website, but it also wasn't accepted and i got a msg from you which was "your draft currently does not establish how this subject meets WP:NMUSIC. You have a single non-independent source linked. We require at least three reliable, independent sources." but i really can't handle it as i added a trusted source for the album. Could you please tell me what exactly i have to do? Thank you so much. 23:07, 29 May 2020 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by S.elrefaie (talkcontribs)

Hello S.elrefaie, you need to find at least three sources that are independent of the subject, i.e. not written by someone affilated with the subject. Wikipedia is not interested in what subjects want to say about themselves (as you could say anything) but only what reliable independent sources have written about said subject. The blue text in my message aare links, you can click on them to find out more. Victor Schmidt (talk) 15:07, 30 May 2020 (UTC)

S.elrefaie (talk) 04:47, 31 May 2020 (UTC) Hello Victor, Thank you for your reply and thank you for trying to help me. I understood what an independent source means, i added all the sources links below the "EXTERNAL LINKS" section, is it the right place or should i add them to another place? Thank you. S.elrefaie (talk) 04:47, 31 May 2020 (UTC)

World Federation of ADHD

Hi Victor Schmidt, thanks for your feedback. AngusWoof gave me the advice to skip the mission statement and broaden the history section instead, which I am planning to do next. As I've added already several external sources and references, I am wondering why this article should be deleted without having the chance for further revision? It is my second Wikipedia-article at all and it would be nice receiving valuable feedback and chances for revision instead of having it deleted, not? We've used the article from "The Movement Disorder Society" as a model and I am wondering why this was published with only four references at all (internal + external) and using website paraphrasing mainly? However, I'll adjust it in the way AngusWoof has suggested and will submit again. Regards, VaJaMe — Preceding unsigned comment added by VaJaMe (talkcontribs) 08:03, 8 June 2020 (UTC)

@VaJaMe: This still largely relies on references to https://www.adhd-federation.org/, which is the subjects own website and not acceptable. Per the rules for selfpublishes sources and the rules for independent sources Citing the subject's own website should be kept at the absolute minimum. I will check every source added since the rejection.
If @AngusWOOF: Is willing to help you, I would it leave it up to him for the most part, and only contribute advice if you explicitely request it. Howewer, he is not willing or able to help you, it will unfortunally take some time, as my time resources for Wikipedia are currently very limited. As for The Movement Disorder Society, Thank you for pointing it out. I have added a maintainance tag for now, maybe I do more when I have more time. For future drafts please read WP:OTHERSTUFFEXISTS for why it is not a good Idea to use such sorts of arguments in most cases. In future, when you choose an article as a template, you can ask yourself a few questions.
  • Has the article a maintainance tag (the yellow-borderd-box at the top)? If so, its probbably not a good example
  • Quickly check the article sources for stuff that fails WP:INDEPENDENT or WP:SELFCITE or even WP:RS. If you find more than five sources that fail the criteria, or you are at more than 50% of the sources that fail the criteria, its probbably not a good example either. Justification Wiki Victor Schmidt

Thanks for your feedback @Victor Schmidt, which helps me to better understand the rules of Wikipedia. Please find my comments below yours:

• [1] appears to be a congress paper from a congress organized by the subject of the draft. They can generally be independent, but that depends on the circumstances and they re probbably not going to help the article survive an WP:AFD. • I understand. It’s written by the professional congress organizer who’s our German partner for managing our meetings. • • http://www.russellbarkley.org/factsheets/TheWorldFederationOfAdhdGuide.pdf appears to be written by Organisation staff and therefore fails the rules for independent sources. • There is no paid staff of the organization, there are only honorary assessors in the boards. They are elected by the members. The link opens the e-book of the federation, but the link has been implemented by Russel A. Barkley, who is not involved in one of the boards of the federation. • • https://research-repository.uwa.edu.au/en/publications/organizing-and-delivering-treatment-for-adhd is literally the previous one in a different container (E-Book rather than pdf). • Scientific article written by Coghill, Chen and Silva, published in the above mentioned e-book from the Federation, serves as an example. The federation is publisher of this guide, but not all chapters are written by board members of the organization, for example this one. • • https://aadpa.com.au/international-consensus-statement-on-adhd/ has the same issiues as #3 • Published by the Australian Assocation on ADHD, not our association • • https://www.springer.com/journal/12402 is from what I can access yet another one written by the organisation rather than on the organisation. •  No, written by the publishing house Springer • • https://journalsandcongresses.pubshub.com/ph/journals/28020/details-adhd-attention-deficit-and-hyperactivity-disorders is not accessible for me either • Scientific article published by the publishing house Springer However, the current version lists more references than the ones you’ve used as an example, please let me know if there are any questions, too: • [https://www.emedevents.com/organizer-profile/world-federation-of-attention-deficit-hyperactivity-disorder-adhd • ^ [https://zh.chregister.ch/cr-portal/auszug/auszug.xhtml;jsessionid=323f0e02b0732bb8e5111e28c5bd?uid=CHE-114.550.595# • ^ [https://www.adhd-federation.org/about-us/Who-we-are.html • ^ [http://www.cpo-media.net/ADHD/Final_Programme_2019/HTML/files/assets/common/downloads/publication.pdf • ^ [https://www.adhd-federation.org/congresses-meetings/congress-history.html • ^ https://www.npz-hamburg.de/adhdworld19.html • ^ [http://evaluation%20https://www.adhd-federation.org/_Resources/Persistent/2ff53b6da96f2d5ea7664348a3ca0773763a289f/Evaluation%20Lisbon%202019.pdf • ^[http://www.russellbarkley.org/factsheets/TheWorldFederationOfAdhdGuide.pdf • ^ [https://research-repository.uwa.edu.au/en/publications/organizing-and-delivering-treatment-for-adhd • ^ https://aadpa.com.au/international-consensus-statement-on-adhd/ • ^ [https://www.springer.com/journal/12402 • ^https://journalsandcongresses.pubshub.com/ph/journals/28020/details-adhd-attention-deficit-and-hyperactivity-disorders • ^ [https://www.adhd-federation.org/about-us/medal-of-the-wfadhd.html • ^ [https://www.adhd-federation.org/about-us/board.html • ^ [https://www.upstate.edu/news/articles/2019/2019-05-22-faraonepresident.php

I'm not being directly or indirectly compensated for my edits on the page I'm editing (Fausto J Pinto). I edited a few publications and I got spammed. I tried to reverse the changes I had made but those publications always get removed. Can I please reverse the editing without everything get removed? — Preceding unsigned comment added by ACFGaspar (talkcontribs) 17:36, 24 June 2020 (UTC)

@ACFGaspar: You can, if you adhere to the rules of Wikipedia. One of them is that substantial edits need a consensus on the talkpage. Another one is that we dont use ALL CAPS. Wikipedia is not a reliable source. Wikipedia is not a complete list of article subject's works. I suggest you start reading at WP:Introduction. Victor Schmidt (talk) 17:42, 24 June 2020 (UTC)

Hello Victor Schmidt, thank you for your feedback! I only started editing on Wikipedia yesterday, so I'm sorry for my questions and mistakes. I don't understand how do I adhere to the rules. I recognize that I did a massive publication without Wikipedia approval and mostly everything was deleted even things that were changed before and by other user, the following appeared on history: Rv massive spam (TW). I tried to undo it, but the following appeared "No this is chock full of unreliable sources, we don't format headings in all caps and the rest is spam (TW)" How can I fix this? It's really important, if I could just redo the last changes and not have all of the other editings by others users removed it would be perfect. Can you please help? Diebeckmama (talk) 16:32, 25 June 2020 (UTC) Hello, why did you delete a draft in a personal name space before it was finished or moved to the public encyclopedia? By the way Energiesprong is not the product, but a concept. There was no advertisement intention. Cheers

Advertising isn't allowed anywhere. Wikipedia articles should be mainly written from what independent reliable sources say about the subject, not what the subject want's to say about itself. I have decided to stop you while you weren't in mainspace yet because it will cause way more trouble if something promotional appears in mainspace. 16:35, 25 June 2020 (UTC)

Mark Ravenhill

Hi Victor, I've had another go at the Ravenhill revisions, citing more sources and removing unsourced evaluative language. Hope it's okay now and you don't need to revert. The previous version of the page is incoherent and full of errors so does need to be substantially revised.— Preceding unsigned comment added by Rebellato (talkcontribs)

@Rebellato: Please have a look at the first section of your additions. The last part needs a source. Since this is a WP:BLP, the rules are rather stringent and I will remove it now. Please sign your edits by typing four ~ at the end. Victor Schmidt (talk) 14:20, 29 June 2020 (UTC)

question about sources

hi, thank your for your answer and the links, I could not find any info about why a professional interview is not a reliable source. as reference I put one print article in an established magazine and two professional interviews - this is all I could find, everything else is either written by the subject or forum content, so what could I do? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Raymondr1877 (talkcontribs) 17:21, 14 July 2020 (UTC) Raymondr1877 (talk) 17:23, 14 July 2020 (UTC)

2020 Hungaroring Formula 3 round

Hi. How it can has WP:Crystal issues, if it was actually happened?.. Please restore the article ASAP. Corvus tristis (talk) 08:37, 19 July 2020 (UTC)

First of all, I generally don't do things ASAP. I'm currently on holiday, and you're lucky that I saw this. Secondly, by the time I draftified this, it hadn't happened already. as seen from the logs, the draftification happened on the 17th. Your article is from the 18th. Even if we put that aside, this is the form in which the article was when I found it. You don't want to tell me that was ready for mainspace, do you? Victor Schmidt (talk) 08:06, 21 July 2020 (UTC)
I'm sorry, but even if you think that article isn't ready for mainspace it could be not a bad idea to at least notify WP:MOTOR community, and give an opportunity to fix it. The article is about the recent event, so it was obvious that it will be updated and expanded soon. Why don't you draftify such crap with zero posibility for improvement? Hi, Victor! You're wasting your breath (well, your typing) with this one. See Wikipedia:Sockpuppet_investigations/Alex9777777. This user has been creating pages to promote an online radio station, and its non-notable founder Pechkurov Aleksej, for several years. Most of the article-space names they used have been deleted and salted, so they have moved to making category pages. I ran into them back in August (see my talk page) after they created the same page under a different name (from a different, now-blocked, sock account). Same pattern of behavior - they will repeatedly remove deletion tags and completely miss the point of everything you say. I've added them to AIV since it is an obvious sock, may have to escalate to a full sockpuppet investigation if that takes too long. Thanks, and happy editing! PohranicniStraze (talk) 17:11, 15 September 2019 (UTC)

@PohranicniStraze: as I wrote above, I don't know the story behind User:Alex9777777, so I decided to use AGF, even if it might be not the right way, and I gave him a level 4 warning a while ago. If he resumes with this account, he will get blocked, if he resumes with another account or IP, he will get blocked, if he is indeed not Alex9777777, well, then he had a bad start editing here. Anyway, happy editing! Victor Schmidt (talk) 17:17, 15 September 2019 (UTC)

Thank you for reporting, I have changed it. Please make sure you use the "New section" link at the top of the page, so you create your own section instead of editing the section at the bottom. Victor Schmidt (talk) 17:02, 9 August 2020 (UTC)

Sandbox goals

1. I thought sandbox page was for experimenting. I was saving information for preparation. 2. And cited the sources. I didn't write without quoting sources. I did not know the amount of how much I can quote though. Wbiases (talk) 17:15, 9 August 2020 (UTC)

@Wbiases: I know that the sandboxes here are intended for experimenting, but as copyright violations can put Wikipedida in legal trouble, they need to be removed immedately. Citing the source does not help for the legal aspect (thats why I sometimes think that that word is misleading because of this exact issiue). Generally, what is not allowed in sandbox is one of the following, but this list may not be conclusive:
Happy editing! Victor Schmidt (talk) 17:21, 9 August 2020 (UTC)

So I removed the content... Then you put it back on? What if I ommit large contents in quoting articles, then what? Wbiases (talk) 18:19, 9 August 2020 (UTC) Can you please check now if it's OK? Wbiases Wbiases (talk) 18:30, 9 August 2020 (UTC)

@Wbiases: I had to revert you because you removed the deletion tags. We cant even let copyright violations sitting in the page history. I have added information regarding copyright at your talkpage in User talk:Wbiases#Wikipedia and Copyright. Specifially, you can only quote small sections of text. You dont need to delete the article to be able to completely overwhaul it. In theory, you cuold yust delete anything starting with the line {{Infobox person. Howewer, unless that folk is notable in Wikipedia's sence of the word, you are wasting everyone's time (including your own) trying to get this accepted. Please indicate in your reply how you think this subjects meets WP:NPERSON. Don't reply too sooon, you'll have time for the answer. As a matter of courtesy, we are going to invite @Eternal Shadow: to this discussion. As for the speedy deletion tag, its invaild for two reasons:
  • It was indeed created by Kavenville (talk · contribs), but not in violation of a block or ban because you cant create a page if you are blocked from editing (and the sockmaster is not yet banned, but could be soon under WP:3X, but didn't create the page)
  • Even if we put that aside, the page has been edited substantially by other editors (you) and therefore, WP:G5 doesn't apply either. Victor Schmidt (talk) 11:44, 23 August 2020 (UTC)

I understand that unless that folk is notable in Wikipedia's sence of the word i cant do any thing to get it accepted.. her page was accepted before then it got deleted her movies have released & its pages also there in wikipedia so let me give one try. i know i am wasting ur time also but pls help me in getting this deleted. artist has got verified in various platforms. hope without notebility that is not possible let me give one try it was accepted on 1 April 2018 by @MatthewVanitas — Preceding unsigned comment added by Charlie063 (talkcontribs) 11:58, 23 August 2020 (UTC)

Re-evaluation of alleged sock account

My first account was PerfectingNEI. I no more remember the password. That account was blocked as sock puppet of Sairg. But it's not true. After that i tried to create some accounts but they were also blocked. I wasn't experienced user in past. I had no idea about sock puppetry when my first account was blocked with false allegation of sock puppet. Can you please re-check that account PerfectingNEI and sairg. I am actually not genuine sock. I was mistakenly blocked in first case and i wasn't able to edit even talk page then i tried to clear the misunderstanding with fressh account. But that was also blocked. I will be thankful to you help. Thank you 2409:4065:E0B:7CE7:9EE:EBB:5D17:E19E (talk) 15:26, 24 August 2020 (UTC)

First of all, I would ask you to stop creating any more accounts. it does not help you. Secondly, I am unfortunally unable to check the accounts for two reasons. The first one is that I am not a Checkuser so I dont have acces to the technical data leading to the block. The second reason is that PerfectingNEI (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log) was blocked back in October 2019, which means that any technical data has long expired, since this data is only kept around for 90 days. I am going to WP:AGF that you are not Sairg. Now, I have looked up the IP 2402:3a80:de4:2f2b:45d9:8249:ee0d:25df (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log), which was in the ANI back then. At least from today's perspective, it appears to be assigned to an ISP (Vodafone India) which makes things kinda difficult. The only path I see forward would be to email The Arbitration Comitee at arbcom-en wikimedia.org. State exactly what happeneed. Say that you forget the password for PerfectingNEI, which doesn't have talkpage acces anyway. I cannot gurantee that this way suceeds, in fact, my past experience suggets otherwise, but I wish you good luck. Victor Schmidt (talk) 07:23, 25 August 2020 (UTC)

also can you please change the title of your post on my talkpage from "August 2020" to something more neutral, people could get the impression that it was some kind of vandalism, where in fact it was a good faith edit Gooduserdude (talk) 09:07, 28 August 2020 (UTC)
Why? If they see the title, they see the contents anyway. And yust assuming something was vandalism because it is under a date header would violate WP:AGF anyway. Victor Schmidt (talk) 09:09, 28 August 2020 (UTC)

Use discussion pages

Don't lecture users and be a rollback abuser if you're unwilling to use the standard discussion method that the talk page is designed around. You should have put up a discussion on the page prior to removing two separate editors additions to a page. Liistro777 (talk) 12:29, 28 August 2020 (UTC)

@Liistro777: Why I should set up a talkpage discussion for removing unsourced content when the burden for bringing sources is clearly not on me? You can always invite me to a discussion and we can talk about the things. Note that both additions had the same problems. If they were to have different problems, I would have reverted them seperatedly, citing different reasons for the removal. Note that you have also violated, and are still violating the Rules for biographys about living persons. Wikipedia isn't interested in another Seigenthaler. Every claim in a biography about a living person must be backed by a reliable source. Social Media and other User-generated content aren't considered reliable. Victor Schmidt (talk) 12:38, 28 August 2020 (UTC)

You did revert them separately my man. Always gotta dred running into some random nazi, basically this is gonna turn into an edit war, but okay. Liistro777 (talk) 12:41, 28 August 2020 (UTC)

This doesn't change anything that both were unsourced, and the burden for providing citations is clearly not on me. Side Note: I am surprised that you responded within 2 minutes (!). Unless you already know the policies from my answer, which would basically dig you into an even bigger hole, I cant realy imagine how you can read and understand them all in such a short time. Victor Schmidt (talk) 12:44, 28 August 2020 (UTC)

Dude, follow the basic guidelines of the site for interacting with others, you should virtually always create a new topic on the talk page for something that is disputed. Liistro777 (talk) 13:13, 28 August 2020 (UTC)

From the introduction of WP:BLP: Contentious material about living persons (or, in some cases, recently deceased) that is unsourced or poorly sourced—whether the material is negative, positive, neutral, or just questionable—should be removed immediately and without waiting for discussion.. If you realy want, we can discuss about this howewer long its required, but I feel we are gettting offtopic. Victor Schmidt (talk) 13:16, 28 August 2020 (UTC)

Thank you

Thank you. I was merrily putting in time assuming good faith on Chutia kingdom. That was a pleasant surprise! Chaipau (talk) 18:10, 28 August 2020 (UTC)

Permission Request to Move/Rename Page (DJO)

I require assistance with the following:

-Editing the page currently listed as DJO Global. I received a response noting that there may be a conflict of interest and that my edits may have been undone for this reason. However, I am an employee making changes to this page for accuracy and legal reason. Can you assist with this?

-The page currently listed as DJO Global https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DJO_Global has legally changed its name to DJO, LLC. This page needs to be renamed to "DJO". I have updated the page copy but need permission to update the name since the "move" option is not shown.

I am logged in as "djo account" as I am doing this on behalf of the company DJO

Please advise — Preceding unsigned comment added by Djo account (talkcontribs) 16:56, 1 September 2020 (UTC)

@Djo account: First of all, you will need a new username. The english Wikipedia doesn't allow usernames inidating they belong to a grozp of persons. You can visit WP:CHUS for that. Secondly, you will need to comply with WP:PAID and WP:COI, the former being a Terms of Use requirement and not negotiable. Please note that the naming conventions don't usally use the "legal" name but the most common name. I suggest you use Wikipedia:Requested moves. Victor Schmidt (talk) 17:06, 1 September 2020 (UTC)

AfD

Hi, I think it would be fine to re-open the AfD. What do you say? – Thjarkur (talk) 15:29, 8 September 2020 (UTC)

Dear Victor. I do not clearly see what I have to do to add proper information concerning relevant findings in electrodynamics and quantum mechanics, which involve minor comments in several Wikipedia pages. It is not just self-promotion, but diffusion of science too. The comments belong to a work that has been published in a JCR journal with peer review and has a very good impact factor, and some were allowed on the web for a long time without complaint. Why erasing all of them now? Other pages asked for publication, and now it is published. There are lots of Wikipedia pages with weird theories about electrodynamics and quantum mechanics, and all of the could be judged of self-promotion. It is only asked that their contributions are published in standard journals. Could you please tell me what should I do so that the present work is properly referenced or considered by experts in Wikipedia? Alvaro12Lopez (talk) 07:58, 11 September 2020 (UTC)

There has been a discussion on Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Physics#2020_publication_Zitterbewegung_and_self_interactions. You can't simply ignore that. You are invited to join the discussion, howewer, I doubt that the result will change. BTW if you have questions for any user, please make sure to create a new section. Hi, Victor--

Sorry, I can't figure out how to reply to your comment on my initial question in the help forum. Thank you for trying to help with the logo, but the one you uploaded is not correct either. How do I get WP:Authorized or whatever to upload the file myself?

And I saw your other comment about having a conflict of interest because I am employed by ISC. I provided references for all the changes I made, but I'll try to figure out how to do the draft version and then ask someone to review it, as you suggested.

Thanks.

Sgoldlust (talk) 17:15, 18 September 2020 (UTC)

Sorry, I tried again at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Internet_Systems_Consortium_logo.png since I now seem to be autoconfirmed (having hit the 10-edit threshold), but it's still showing the old logo. The new logo shows up in the File History section at the bottom, but it still says the file is not replaceable, so maybe that's the issue? I'm new at this and I apologize if I'm wasting your time, but I appreciate your help.

Sgoldlust (talk) 17:31, 18 September 2020 (UTC)

@Sgoldlust: Ah I know what you mean. The blue text "replaceable" does not meen its not possible to upload a new revision, is yust says "There is no free alternative to this file that this file can be replaced with". Click on the blue text "Replaceable?" on the file description page to confirm. Victor Schmidt (talk) 18:24, 18 September 2020 (UTC)
Also please be advised that due to Caching the old image takes time to be replaced. Victor Schmidt (talk) 18:27, 18 September 2020 (UTC)
@Victor Schmidt:When I first tried to upload the correct image, I got the following warning:

Upload error

Your action has triggered an edit filter An automated filter has detected that you are attempting to upload a high resolution non-free image to Wikipedia. Per our image usage policy, we require non-free images to be low resolution in order to satisfy our non-free content criteria and generally recommend a maximum size of 100,000 pixels. If you understand the details of the non-free content criteria and believe this image is of sufficient low resolution, feel free to click "Ignore any warnings" and submit your upload. You can also edit the page after you upload and add {{Non-free reduce}} to the bottom of the page to request that a bot automatically reduce the size of this image.

If you believe you are seeing this message in error, please let us know.

So I uploaded it and was going to add {{Non-free reduce}} but a) couldn't figure out where that should go and b) the old logo is still displaying, even though the new logo is in the history. So I reverted my change but it still shows the old logo. When I click on "Replaceable?" I just get another page about Non-free use rationale that doesn't make any sense to me.

But maybe you're right and the cache just isn't purged yet? I appreciate your time and effort.

Sgoldlust (talk) 18:37, 18 September 2020 (UTC)

Looks indeed like a cache problem. Yust wait... Victor Schmidt (talk) 18:43, 18 September 2020 (UTC)
@Victor Schmidt: I just checked again and it's still showing the wrong logo, and it says all the previous versions will be deleted next week because they're not free. If you have any other suggestions I'd appreciate them.

Snehasrivastava1 (talk) 08:55, 19 September 2020 (UTC) This is an informative content on a company CresTech Global, which needs to be known by people all over the globe. It was founded in 2005 and have done immense quality work to be known on wikipedia. Hence I request you not to tag it for speedy deletion without properly validating it.

I've took a look at it. My opinion hasn't changed. Victor Schmidt (talk) 09:04, 19 September 2020 (UTC)

Why was my input blocked and why was I summarily banned?

I just posted a bullet comment on the Forever Amber wiki page and it was immediately blocked and I was banned. What I typed was a statement of fact but it is not practical to list every single source because it occurs dozens and dozens of times. As a matter of fact, I wasn't even finished composing the comment.— Preceding unsigned comment added by Hawkmaster1965 (talkcontribs)

@Hawkmaster1965: I assumed you meant to contact @Helper202: about that. Please be advised that Wikipedia deals with what can be verfied, not what someone considers "truth". If there are to many sources, yust list one or maybe two. Victor Schmidt (talk) 07:09, 20 September 2020 (UTC)

Draft:Western Telematic Inc

Hi Victor, sorry for the mistake and thanks for the help.

I added some company website data to my draft as a point of reference and was going to rewrite the whole thing in my own words, I just thought I could publish to draft first and once it was in my own words, only THEN would I publish it to go live.

I am also gathering all of my citations which I has also planned to add all at once while still in draft.

What do you recommend I can do to get it unpublished so I can continue to put it into my own words and add the citations?

Regards— Preceding unsigned comment added by RBTWI19-620827 (talkcontribs)

@RBTWI19-620827: the current draft is probbably goign to be deleted by an administrator sooner or later. All things that you enter in Wikipedia's edit field, followed by a click on the publish button can be accessed by end users in some way, even when Google doesn't. Normally, the steps to create a Wikipedia article are as follows:
  • First, review our guideline on notability, our policy on Verifiability, and our general notability guideline (GNG). Consider whether your subject clearly meets the standards listed there. Also, check if the topic is already covered, perhaps under a different spelling or in a section of an article about a wider topic. You will waste a lot of time, if you create a new article, and then find that the encyclopedia already has an article about that.
  • Second, read how to create Your First Article and referencing for beginners and again consider if you want to go ahead.
  • Third, If you have any connection or affiliation with the subject, disclose it in accordance with our guideline on Conflict of interest. If you have been or expect to be paid for making edits, or are making them as part of your job, disclose this according to the strict rules of the Paid-contribution disclosure. This is absolutely required; omitting it can result in you being blocked from further editing.
  • Fourth, gather sources. You want independent, professionally published, reliable sources with each discussing the subject in some detail. If you can't find several such sources, stop; an article will not be created! Sources do NOT need to be online, or in English, although it is helpful if at least some are. The "independent" part is vital. Wikipedia does not consider as independent sources such as press releases, or news stories based on press releases, or anything published by the subject itself or an affiliate of the subject. Strictly local coverage is also not preferred. Regional or national newspapers or magazines, books published by mainstream publishers (not self-published), or scholarly journals are usually good. So are online equivalents of these. (Additional sources may verify particular statements but not discuss the subject in detail. But those significant detailed sources are needed first.)
  • Fifth, use the article wizard to create a draft under the articles for creation project. This is always a good idea for an inexperienced editor, but in the case of an editor with a conflict of interest it is essential.
  • Sixth, use the sources gathered before (and other sources you may find along the way) to write the article. Cite all significant statements to sources. Do not express opinions or judgements, unless they are explicitly attributed to named people or entities, preferably in a direct quotation, and cited to a source. Do not use puffery or marketing-speak. Provide page numbers, dates, authors and titles for sources to the extent these are available. A title is always needed. Submit the draft when you think it is ready for review. Be prepared to wait a while for a review (several weeks or more).
  • Seventh, when (well perhaps if) your draft is declined, pay attention to the comments of the reviewer, and correct the draft and resubmit it. During this whole process, if you face any unresolvable editing hurdles, or cannot comprehend any editing issue, feel free to post a request at the Teahouse or the help desk and ask the regulars. Repeat this until the draft passes review.

Congratulations, you have now created a valid Wikipedia article.

There is no "unpublish"-button on Wikipedia due to the licenses Wikipedia content is under (CC-BY-SA 3.0 and GFDL) both of which are not revokeable. Therefore I recommed waiting until an admin decided what do with the page and then start over with the steps I gave above. Victor Schmidt (talk) 17:44, 20 September 2020 (UTC)

Hi Victor, Ok, thanks and I will read the section you recommended. So when I go back to the draft page it appears that the draft text that I had that was in question has now been deleted and my original text remains. Undo at JavaScript graphics library

Hi Victor,

I notice you undid my deletion of the empty References section. In my view, a section that has a template that expands to nothing, is still an empty section. It looks and feels like an empty section. In my view, this article should be called List of JavaScript graphics libraries since it doesn't really say anything about why a JavaScript graphics library differs in any way from any other kind of graphics library... but perhaps I'm being harsh. 85.238.91.38 (talk) 17:59, 25 September 2020 (UTC)

@85.238.91.38: Hello, and Welcome to Wikipedia! Normally, empty sections, or sections tagges as {{empty section}} can be removed. Howewer, in this case its pretty pointless, as that section needs to be readded once the first inline reference is added (which hopefully happens sooner rather than later). Victor Schmidt (talk) 18:04, 25 September 2020 (UTC)

Saba Mahmood

Hello,

Thank you for your message. Is there a strict rule against using WikiLeaks as a source? Because I find it hard to believe that my reference in the Saba Mahmood article is the only example. Cheers! Nevindobruca (talk) 18:02, 3 October 2020 (UTC)Nevindobruca

@Nevindobruca: its not as strict as it were if the source were deprecated by community consensus, howewer, its still prefered to use other, more reliable sources. See also WP:RSPRIMARY. In this case you probbably can move on, because the edit is also partially sourced to The independent, which is considered generally reliable. Victor Schmidt (talk) 18:32, 3 October 2020 (UTC)

Warning to Insulated capillary

I got a notification when you'd left a warning on Insulated capillary's talk page here. Would you mind double-checking that? Their contributions don't show any edits to my page, and my user page history doesn't show any changes. Was it an edit blocked by a filter? Curious about this. Thanks! Ravensfire (talk) 23:35, 18 October 2020 (UTC)

@Ravensfire: yes, that edit was stopped by an edit filter. You can see it here. For me it seemed probbably like trolling, though I can see now that there could have been other reasons. Victor Schmidt (talk) 07:13, 19 October 2020 (UTC)
Victor Schmidt, I was guessing that was the case - thanks for the info! There was a troll a few years ago that was doing stuff like that on my user page, it's possible they returned. I'm also a thorn in the side for several socks that edit around Indian cinema, this could be one of them. I'll have to keep an eye on this new accounts contributions, just in case. Thanks again! Hi. Please review this latest updated version of the page not the old one. Thanks https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Ram_Setu_Controversy Bhumi2tandon (talk) 05:15, 23 October 2020 (UTC)

@Bhumi2tandon: I have took a look at it. So far I have noticed the following problems:

Final Draft

Hi Bhumi2tandon here (sorry my first submission so don't know how to sign here)

Ram Setu Controversy Page

Link to my updated page https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Ram_Setu_Controversy

Have made the recommended corrections to the page.

Some clarifications 1. First few paragraphs of the article are general introduction and some widely held beliefs so is unsourced the rest of it has been sourced.

2. Regarding the suggestion to merge the page with Adams Bridge origins legends page, this page deals with a much wider topic and includes the various chronological and Sethusamudram Canal Project debates so there is no need to merge the two. Please let me know how to remove the suggestion to merge the page.

3. Somehow no submit for review button is showing on my page anymore. Can you please check if there is some backend problem. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Bhumi2tandon (talkcontribs) 10:40, 23 October 2020 (UTC)

Hi Someone has edited my page by adding remarks within the page itself. Now when I correct the remarks its leading to an edit conflict. Can you please help me resolve this issue https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Ram_Setu_Controversy — Preceding unsigned comment added by Bhumi2tandon (talkcontribs) 13:53, 23 October 2020 (UTC)

@Bhumi2tandon: No i can't, as I cannot see what the edit conflit message looks like for you. If Help:Edit conflict does not help you, I am afraid that I cannot help you with that. Victor Schmidt (talk) 14:07, 23 October 2020 (UTC)
