Vadakkumpuram Vishnumaya Devasthanam (alternatively Vishnumaya Chathan Temple) is a Hindu temple at Chenthrapinni, Thrissur District, Kerala state, India. It is dedicated to the god Vishnumaya in Kerala. The god is also known by the name Chathan.
Vadakkumpuram Sri Vishnumaya Devasthanam is the only north facing temple in the world. The deity is enshrined here in Kubhera bavam.
The Tantri has been consecrated the diety at the Vadakkumpuram Devasthanam itself. Therefore Vadakkumpuram Devasthanam is called Sri Vishnumaya Moolasthana.
The deity of the temple is represented in the serene Kubera posture of the deity facing north. Includes two hands.Vadakkumpuram Sri Vishnumaya Devasthanam is named as Vadakkumpuram Sri Vishnumaya Devasthanam as the temple deity known for his magical powers sits on a diamond throne holding a short staff (mantrikavadi) holding a magic pot (Amritakumbham). This temple of 381 brothers and mother Koolivaka Devi is often recognized.
Located in the central part of Kerala, this temple is called Chathan temple by Tamil speaking people. Chatan got its name from Shasta. The temple embodies ancient Shakteya rituals which are rarely observed in contemporary Kerala temples.Earlier this temple was a small shrine. Over time, it became outdated and then the family started suffering. The gold issue was looked into in real time and under the leadership of Ayush Sharma, the grandson of the family, God’s will was heard and the remedial actions were initiated accordingly.
The construction work of the templ” started and under the leadership of Suresh Tantri of Kochikat, the dedication was performed in the form of Kubera. In course of time, Swami became peaceful and blessed the family with Ashta Ishwaryas.
Pujas are performed here according to the direct instructions of God. Gulika Sannidhi, Kalpa Sannidhi and Kooliwaka Sannidhi near the temple are believed to be the main sources of this deity’s powers.
Vadakkumpuram Sri Vishnumaya Temple is open to all castes and creeds. The temple of the deity is closely related to the Sabarimala Sri Ayyappaswamy temple. Shasta and Chatan are intermingled each time. Currently the administration of the Vadakkampuram Sri Vishnumaya Devasthanam is done by the temple society.
In ancient times, sacrifices were offered in the temple in the form of a bird, and devotees offered red silk cloths in the temple to seek protection and fulfillment of their prayers.
At Chentrapinni, the Vadakkumpuram Sri Vishnumaya Devasthanam is located on the west side of the Sri Kannanakulam Mahadeva Temple. Manimandapam or sanctum sanctorum faces north.
Facing West Vadakkumpuram Bhagavathy (Kali Amma), North side Nagaraja Nagayakshi Karinagam Mani Nagam South side Gulikan Swami Vishnumaya Swami , East side Koolivaka Devi Kukshikalpa facing North Karinkali Amma blesses the devotees every day.
In this ceremony, the person called the Velichappaadu (Representative of the God) is addressed as God and is said to be possessed by the deity.Special pooja is performed only on Poornam or Amavasi days. All karmas are followed in Shakteya mode.
Every month on the new moon day, Vellat karmas and Kalam songs are performed in a similar manner to the festival. Kalam songs are performed to please the vadakkampuram God, Vadakkapuram Goddess and the Demons who delight in offerings.
