License tagging for Image:Bookart flyer.jpg

edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Bookart flyer.jpg. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 15:06, 18 June 2007 (UTC)

Image tagging for Image:Beowulf Cartoon bookwork.jpg

edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Beowulf Cartoon bookwork.jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the source and creator of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you don't indicate the source and creator of the image on the image's description page, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided source information for them as well.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. For assistance on the image use policy, see Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 14:06, 11 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

File permission problem with File:The Arrested Image - R. Evans.jpg

edit

Thanks for uploading File:The Arrested Image - R. Evans.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file agreed to license it under the given license.

If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Skier Dude (talk) 02:33, 16 November 2009 (UTC)Reply

Image Copyrights

edit

Let's take a look:

  1. 1.4 File:A Pocket History of the Soul (chapbook cover).jpg - book cover, no source (source here = verifiable source, normally an external link), author not clear from cover - would need WP:OTRS release from author or (c) holder for use here. Or, can be licensed as {{non-free book cover}} if proper source can be supplied and the image is then used appropriately on an article page - which would be an article about the book.
  2. 1.7 File:SGR recruitment leaflet 09 001.jpg - re-uploaded with correct license
  3. 1.8 File:Furst fruts uvl 977.jpg - book cover, no source, author=Lawrence Cobton / Bob Upbing. Would need WP:OTRS release from author or (c) holder for use here. Or, can be licensed as {{non-free book cover}} if proper source can be supplied and the image is then used appropriately on an article page - which would be an article about the book.
  4. 1.9 File:Axe Hero cd insert cover.jpg - this needs to have a source, and as an album cover/insert, has to be licensed as {{non-free album cover}} or {{non-free promotional}}. Otherwise would need WP:OTRS release from artist or (c) holder for use here - which would be an article about the album.
  5. 1.10 File:Dust jacket The Joy of Letting Women Down.jpg - book cover, would need WP:OTRS release from author or (c) holder for use here. Or, can be licensed as {{non-free book cover}} if proper source can be supplied and the image is then used appropriately on an article page - which would be an article about the book.
  6. 1.11 File:WF workshop & book launch flyer 2002.jpg - book cover or promotional material, would need WP:OTRS release from author or (c) holder for use here. Or, can be licensed as {{non-free book cover}} or or {{non-free promotional}} if proper source can be supplied and the image is then used appropriately on an article page - which would be an article about the book.
  7. 1.12 File:Beowulf Cartoon bookwork.jpg - unless you are willing to disclose that you are "Michael John Weller" this can't be licensed as PD-self. Please note if you do this, several articles could be marked as "COI" (conflict of interest). Additionally, if these are published works, the publisher could claim (c) to them - and therefore going through WP:OTRS would be needed.
  8. 1.13 File:Space Opera book 2000.jpg - same as #12
  9. 1.14 File:Ssf6+Processural.jpg- collage of book covers, no source, author=Bob Cobbing. Would need WP:OTRS release from author or (c) holder for use here. Or, can be licensed as {{non-free book cover}} if proper source can be supplied and the image is then used appropriately on an article page - which would be an article about the book.
  10. 1.15 File:Positive future.jpg- corporate flyers, no source. Would need WP:OTRS release from "Scientists for Global Responsibility" for use here. Or, can be licensed as {{non-free promotional}} if proper source can be supplied and the image is then used appropriately on an article page - SfGR.
  11. 1.16 File:Vis assc cat. cover.jpg- comic book cover, would need WP:OTRS release from publisher or (c) holder for use here. Or, can be licensed as {{non-free comic}} if proper source can be supplied and the image is then used appropriately on an article page - which would be an article about the comic book.

It appears that you'd be best to go through the WP:OTRS process for the majority of these. You can respond here, I'll watch the page for the next week or so. Skier Dude (talk) 05:25, 10 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

Disputed non-free use rationale for File:SGR recruitment leaflet 09 001.jpg

edit

Thank you for uploading File:SGR recruitment leaflet 09 001.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. FASTILY (TALK) 20:13, 19 December 2009 (UTC)Reply
