Jellico Mountain moved to draftspace

edit

An article you recently created, Jellico Mountain, does not have enough sources and citations as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. buidhe 23:46, 1 March 2020 (UTC)Reply

Happy 50th anniversary of Earth Day everyone. Remember to continue protecting our planet from further climate change. Methane gas emitted from cows disrupt the ozone layer in the outer reaches of the Earth's atmosphere, so please be careful when trying to eat beef. Opt for pork instead. Thank You!

April 24, JFK Airport first edit warring warning

  You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war according to the reverts you have made on John F. Kennedy International Airport; that means that you are repeatedly changing content back to how you think it should be, when you have seen that other editors disagree. Users are expected to collaborate with others, to avoid editing disruptively, and to try to reach a consensus, rather than repeatedly undoing other users' edits once it is known that there is a disagreement.

Points to note:

  1. Edit warring is disruptive regardless of how many reverts you have made;
  2. Do not edit war even if you believe you are right.

If you find yourself in an editing dispute, use the article's talk page to discuss controversial changes and work towards a version that represents consensus among editors. You can post a request for help at an appropriate noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, it may be appropriate to request temporary page protection. If you engage in an edit war, you may be blocked from editing.

For your information, the padlocks are only displayed on articles that are protected. If you feel that an article needs to be protected, you should file a request at WP:RFPP. Please do not edit war with bots that are operating correctly. Mjroots (talk) 05:21, 24 April 2020 (UTC)Reply

  Hello. Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia.

When editing Wikipedia, there is a field labeled "Edit summary" below the main edit box. It looks like this:

Edit summary (Briefly describe your changes)

I noticed your recent edit to Tropical Storm Cristobal (2020) does not have an edit summary. Please be sure to provide a summary of every edit you make, even if you write only the briefest of summaries. The summaries are very helpful to people browsing an article's history.

Edit summary content is visible in:

Please use the edit summary to explain your reasoning for the edit, or a summary of what the edit changes. With a Wikipedia account you can give yourself a reminder to add an edit summary by setting Preferences → Editing →   Prompt me when entering a blank edit summary. Your draft article, Draft:Jellico Mountain

edit

Hello, Williamwang363. It has been over six months since you last edited the Articles for Creation submission or Draft page you started, "Jellico Mountain".

In accordance with our policy that Wikipedia is not for the indefinite hosting of material deemed unsuitable for the encyclopedia mainspace, the draft has been nominated for deletion. If you plan on working on it further, or editing it to address the issues raised if it was declined, simply edit the submission and remove the {{db-afc}}, {{db-draft}}, or {{db-g13}} code.

If your submission has already been deleted by the time you get there, and you wish to retrieve it, you can request its undeletion by following the instructions at this link. An administrator will, in most cases, restore the submission so you can continue to work on it.

Thank you for your submission to Wikipedia! UnitedStatesian (talk) 20:28, 4 December 2020 (UTC)Reply

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Forest Glen station, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Wheaton. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

It's OK to remove this message. Also, to stop receiving these messages, follow these opt-out instructions. Thanks, DPL bot (talk) 06:17, 20 May 2021 (UTC)Reply

I removed unsourced material from the article. You re-added it - without an explanation, and without any sources. Care to explain why you did that? It's borderline disruptive editing and can certainly result in you being blocked if you keep it up. JimKaatFan (talk) 14:40, 6 May 2022 (UTC)Reply

Would you mind giving me an explanation if what I done is disruptive editing or vandalism, because what I done could have also been contributing to edit warring? Williamwang363 (talk) 01:34, 7 May 2022 (UTC)Reply
Please read Wikipedia:Citing sources. The text that is directly relevant to this case is "In particular, sources are required for material that is challenged or likely to be challenged – if reliable sources cannot be found for challenged material, it is likely to be removed from the article." (emphasis mine) JimKaatFan (talk) 22:06, 7 May 2022 (UTC)Reply

Removing template WMATA type from many stations

edit

Hi, I noticed you removed the {{WMATA type}} template from many of the station pages. Was there a discussion or other consensus reached to remove it? Otherwise it seems like that discussion should be had and the removals reverted. Thanks! Skynxnex (talk) 23:12, 8 September 2022 (UTC)Reply

There is a controversy here. Then who removed a lot of   rapid transit station template from major transfer hubs, such as Metro Center, Gallery Place, and L Enfant Plaza, for instance. We need to get to the bottom of this. Williamwang363 (talk) 00:31, 10 September 2022 (UTC)Reply
Huh. I guess I'll have to poke around more to figure out why that template has been removed overtime, since it seems overall useful. I've started a section on the project talk page, I think: Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Washington_Metro#Why_has_Template:WMATA_type_been_slowly_removed_from_station_pages?. Skynxnex (talk) 20:33, 11 September 2022 (UTC)Reply
That is especially true for major transfer hubs. Now without all that, it makes it very ambiguous. When I attempted to add it back, someone would revert it within a few hours. Again, thank you for trying to figure out who is behind all of that mess. Williamwang363 (talk) 23:34, 11 September 2022 (UTC)Reply
@Williamwang363 See the project page linked above. I'm still pondering this (and might mean I agree with the removal in the end, I just had originally thought it was a weird mass removal without any discussion--but that isn't true on Pi.'s part) but I think it makes sense to pause and I didn't mean for you to revert/add back a bunch of stuff if there was a reason. I'm a bit confused by you saying figure out who is behind all of that mess when before I asked you, you removed it on many pages. So, stop. And discuss on the project page is probably the best action. Skynxnex (talk) 01:23, 12 September 2022 (UTC)Reply
I guess you are right on this one. Thank you for the discussion page anyway. Williamwang363 (talk) 11:21, 12 September 2022 (UTC)Reply

Unsourced material

Hi I saw you left a message on my talk page. There is indeed a valid source covering the changes from WMATA themselves. Plus the name change has been approved for months now, but have yet become official. Here is the source below:

Metro to implement five station name changes Sept. 11

This means the changes have been official but have yet to be updated on Wikipedia and maps. Someone has already did North Bethesda station on this edit here.

Also, I forgot to mention Downtown Largo was approved in January here. Swagging (talk) 00:52, 10 September 2022 (UTC)Reply

  Hello. This is a message to let you know that one or more of your recent contributions, such as the edit(s) you made to MARTA rail, did not appear to be constructive and have been reverted. Please take some time to familiarise yourself with our policies and guidelines. You can find information about these at our welcome page which also provides further information about contributing constructively to this encyclopedia. If you only meant to make test edits, please use your sandbox for that. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you may leave a message on my talk page. In addition, please don't replace entire articles with the contents of other articles like you did here. That is disruptive editing. Epicgenius (talk) 15:35, 9 June 2024 (UTC)Reply

@Epicgenius I deeply apologize for what I have done recently to several MARTA articles, and I promise to not do it again. Can you please forgive me and not tell a Wikipedia admin to block me for the disruptive editing? Williamwang363 (talk) 15:15, 10 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Williamwang363, I personally forgive you, but it's not me you need to convince; it's the administrators who look at your edits. If they see a pattern of disruptive editing, they may very well block you. This also goes for adding information without reliable sources. You should take the advice that was given to you in the section below, to prevent yourself from being further sanctioned.

  Hello. I have noticed that you often edit without using an edit summary. Please do your best to always fill in the summary field. This helps your fellow editors use their time more productively, rather than spending it unnecessarily scrutinizing and verifying your work. Even a short summary is better than no summary, and summaries are particularly important for large, complex, or potentially controversial edits. To help yourself remember, you may wish to check the "prompt me when entering a blank edit summary" box in your preferences. Thanks! ⸺(Random)staplers 18:24, 1 September 2024 (UTC)Reply

I agree this user's edits are significantly problematic. If their edits do not meaningfully and immediately improve after this notification, please let me know. --Yamla (talk) 21:19, 3 September 2024 (UTC)Reply

Do not change the exact dates, as variants of SARS-CoV-2 can change at a moments notice.

Also, why are you nitpicking these small details (that may be important) instead of verifying sources, or your previous edits?⸺(Random)staplers 18:41, 9 September 2024 (UTC)Reply

Seriously, over a variants of Covid article. If you have disputes, please post the comment on the talk page of the Variants of SARS-COV-2 article, not mine. Williamwang363 (talk) 20:48, 9 September 2024 (UTC)Reply

Here's the thing Williamwang363: I don't think you should be punished for just this one edit over "Variants of SARS-CoV-2", especially since it's your one edit after being heavily warned. However, your previous edits are problematic, and you need to demonstrate that you are capable of editing productively. That either means substantial edits that improve articles, or at the very least, going to articles you've edited, and adding citations to the edits you've made, and undoing the ones that are problematic.

The reason why I'm talking to you directly, and not posting this to the talk page, is because I didn't add the date. So it would be pointless for me to gauge consensus on that issue in particular. Also, let me remind you that it was your problematic editing of {{as of}} dates that got everyone to check the sources in the first place.

In any case, it might be best for you to act as if this is your last warning. Demonstrate good edits, and editors might be less exacerbated at you. Just my two cents.

I'm going to undo this edit one more time. If you have something to add, please make it substantial, and backed by citations. Don't just defer to consensus. And please don't threaten to edit war.⸺(Random)staplers 23:16, 9 September 2024 (UTC)Reply

@Randomstaplers What are you talking about? For which of my previous edits was heavily problematic, and does it pertain to the SARS-COV-2 article that you mentioned? Williamwang363 (talk) 15:11, 10 September 2024 (UTC)Reply

Introduction to contentious topics

edit

You have recently edited a page related to COVID-19, broadly construed, a topic designated as contentious. This is a brief introduction to contentious topics and does not imply that there are any issues with your editing.

A special set of rules applies to certain topic areas, which are referred to as contentious topics. These are specially designated topics that tend to attract more persistent disruptive editing than the rest of the project and have been designated as contentious topics by the Arbitration Committee. When editing a contentious topic, Wikipedia’s norms and policies are more strictly enforced, and Wikipedia administrators have special powers in order to reduce disruption to the project.

Within contentious topics, editors should edit carefully and constructively, refrain from disrupting the encyclopedia, and:

  • adhere to the purposes of Wikipedia;
  • comply with all applicable policies and guidelines;
  • follow editorial and behavioural best practice;
  • comply with any page restrictions in force within the area of conflict; and
  • refrain from gaming the system.

Editors are advised to err on the side of caution if unsure whether making a particular edit is consistent with these expectations. If you have any questions about contentious topics procedures you may ask them at the arbitration clerks' noticeboard or you may learn more about this contentious topic here. You may also choose to note which contentious topics you know about by using the {{Ctopics/aware}} template.
