WP:ADOPT

Hi there,

As a user looking to Adopt with the Adopt-a-User program, there has been some ongoing developments that we would like to bring to your attention, as well as request help with the backlog at Category:Wikipedians seeking to be adopted in Adopt-a-user.

You should know that the way the adoption process works has changed slightly. To decrease workload at Category:Wikipedians seeking to be adopted in Adopt-a-user on offering adoption please change the {{Adoptme}} template to {{Adoptoffer}} on the user's user page, and this will add the user to Category:Wikipedians having been offered adoption. Users that have already been offered adoption can always have a second or third offer, but by separating out those users that have not had an adoption offer yet, it is hoped that no one will go lacking. Once adoption is complete please use the templates found here on the Adoptee's and your user page.

Also numerous Adopters have been adding their details to a list of users available for adopting, to offer a more personalised service and allow new users to browse through and pick their own Adopter. The quickest way to adopt though, is still to contact users at the Category:Wikipedians seeking to be adopted in Adopt-a-user.

Furthermore a new Adopter's Area has been created where you can find useful resources and other Adopter's experiences. Please feel free to add any resources you have and if you know of any useful resources for new users / Adoptees then you can add them here.

So I hope you get adopting soon - and if you have any general questions or suggestions about the further development of Wikipedia:Adopt-a-User please bring them to our talk page. Cheers Lethaniol 15:25, 13 January 2007 (UTC)

Third Opinion for Talk:Burk's_Falls, Ontario

Hi Wizardman. I noticed that Agha Nader re-added the Third Opinion request for that page even after your removed it. Since you already addressed it, and no further conflict erupted, I don't think he was supposed to do that. He is rather new, and his limited experience has been primarily with articles that I have edited, so he may not have known any better. In any case, do you think that you could re-remove it? I would do it myself, but that wouldn't look right since I am an involved party. The Behnam 00:02, 14 January 2007 (UTC)

My RfA

Hi. Thanks for your support during my RfA. I hope you don't mind me asking but I was wondering why you withdrew the comment you made about people opposing my candidacy because of my unwillingness to handle images. Please do feel free not to answer, it's an honest question with no intention other than to understand what's going on. I have to say that I am puzzled by the way the RfA has turned out and am quite saddened by the lack of trust of some of my fellow Wikipedians. Cheers, Pascal.Tesson 06:15, 14 January 2007 (UTC)

Thanks a lot for the quick reply. You are probably right in saying that it's a bit late in the RfA to change the outcome. In any case, I certainly did not write to you with the intent of asking you to put the message back up. I was simply worried that you had suddenly decided that my inexperience with images was a perfectly good reason for not trusting me with admin tools. As I said, the whole process has seemed so Kafkaesque that I'm getting a bit paranoid! Best, Pascal.Tesson 06:35, 14 January 2007 (UTC)

TeckWiz's RFA

TeckWiz's RFA
I would like to thank you for helping the Wikipedia community determine if I should become a sysop by voting oppose on my second RFA. Many opposes were because of my "different" answer to question two, which I still partly agree with. I withdrew per WP:SNOW, as consensus to promote was against me. I will continue to improve until one day, I become an admin. Happy editing! --TeckWizTalk Contribs@ 22:04, 15 January 2007 (UTC)

An article which you started, or significantly expanded, Fred Roberts, was selected for DYK!

On January 15, 2007, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Fred Roberts, which you created or substantially expanded. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the "Did you know?" talk page.

Thanks for your contributions! Nishkid64 23:05, 15 January 2007 (UTC)

Your revisions on RfA discussions

I've noticed that you have a rather disconcerting habit at RfA of posting a comment and later revising your comment, usually by completely removing your previous comment, for example:

While everyone is entitled to change their opinion, I do not think it wise to remove the record of why you "!voted" the way you did before the change. If you change your opinion, it is important to show that it has changed and important to show why you changed your mind. If someone took your previous comments into consideration something you had to say in forming his or her own opinion, it is helpful to at least have a record of what you said, and to let later commentators know that part of the foundation of their own opinion may have changed. Having the change apparent on the face of the RfA allows people to consider whether or not they need to rethink what they said.

A better practice is to stroke through your old submission, by putting "<s>" and "</s>" around the entirety of your old comment, including the signature, followed with the addition of "changed to ___" after the crossed-out submission. You can then add your newly revised opinion to the appropriate section.

If you really are uncertain as to how you intend to !vote, you may want to wait a bit longer before commenting. RfAs run for seven days, so there's no big rush. Agent 86 00:29, 16 January 2007 (UTC)

Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/MKULTRA_Pop_Culture

With regard to your comment in this AFD: I don't recommend you tell someone to request speedy deletion when they've split material from an article with the intent to get it deleted. It was not his own article to begin with. Splitting material to request its deletion is abusive and shouldn't be encouraged. - Mgm|(talk) 09:06, 16 January 2007 (UTC)

Keeley Hazell

Is there a reason why you keep changing the spelling? It's generally accepted as having one l. ust wondering.--Wizardman 05:01, 19 January 2007 (UTC)

I keep correcting your vandalism. There is no such word as "modeling". Furthermore, Keeley is British and hence the proper English spelling is appropriate. Turkeyphant 05:11, 19 January 2007 (UTC)
Trust me, correcting the spelling certainly is not vandalism. According to Model (person), my spelling's right. Although in the big scheme of things it doesn't even matter whih way it is.--Wizardman 05:15, 19 January 2007 (UTC)
No - but you weren't correcting the spelling, you were deliberately reverting my corrections. I have already demonstrated adequately why you should not revert my edits, please refrain from doing so. Turkeyphant 05:20, 19 January 2007 (UTC)

Re: WP:WPBIO assessments

Hi, Wizardman. Sorry to give you more work deleting striked assessments. When I have time as both an article creator and sometime assessor I find the other people's notes instructive. But I am pretty new to the project. Don't the other reviewers do this? -Susanlesch 19:29, 20 January 2007 (UTC)

Uncyclopiedia AfD

The third nomination was kept for less than one day, hardly enough time for anyone to voice their concerns about the article. The entire article self references itself and is poorly documented and sourced. The whole article needs a re-write in its current state. I'm going to post another AfD in about 3 or 4 days if the article does not remove self references and clean itself up, there as removing the need for deletion in the first place. Thanks for taking the time to review my contributions and contribute to my RfA. I withdrew when it became clear that the uphill climb had crossed the snowball threshold, but I appreciate your feedback and the process gave me some good ideas for other ways I can be contributing to Wikipedia. As you set out for Ithaka, hope the voyage is long
Knowledge is your destiny, but don't ever hurry the journey
May there be many summer mornings when
With what pleasure and joy, you come into harbors seen for the first time

Don't expect Ithaka to make you rich. Ithaka gave you the marvelous journey
And, if I, one of your fellow-travellers, can offer something
To make this journey of yours even more fascinating and enjoyable
This is my assistance with anything I can help.

RFA nominiation

I have thought about being an admin and I do want to become one. However, I am going on a short little vacation on Jan 25-28 so I think we should wait until after that to go through RFA. I put together a page answering the most common RFA questions I saw at User:Mecu/RFAQ awhile ago. I'll work on the answers, especially for the empty ones. If you have any comments about the answers (especially #5 about punitive block) I will welcome them. Thank you for the offer to nomination, and once I return from my trip we can officially get started. --MECUtalk 23:54, 16 January 2007 (UTC)

I had sent something to Wizardman, so his talk was on my watchlist. When I saw your thing about running for RFA, I was startles the you weren't an admin already! Just a little advice, though they may make an exception for someone with your contributions, many people oppose or go neutral for not a long time on the project (about < 1 year). --TeckWizTalk Contribs@ 00:32, 17 January 2007 (UTC)
(I'm responding to TechWiz on your page here since he'll see it here too) I have been around for 6+ months, and heavily active for 3 of those months (1000+ edits a month I define as heavily active), sans a few months where I was busy with real life (October). I am aware that people vote short terms on RFAs, but if you look at Image:SuccessRatevsEditsatRfA.png, even considering I only have 2000 or so article space edits, it seems my experience should be okay, I could see if it's 3 months, but 7+ (by the time I RFA)? Shouldn't be a real issue IMHO, but thank you for the advice. --MECUtalk 01:06, 17 January 2007 (UTC)
I'm back and ready. You can contact me on IRC if needed. I will likely be around for the next 8 hours (or just stepped away for a few mins). --MECUtalk 20:52, 28 January 2007 (UTC)

Third opinion request for assistance

I am asking for your help and opinion on an issue that I am having with User:SndrAndrss over this template {{Nordic skiing World Championships}} for the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships. The one I have is for the years only while SndrAndrss has both the location and the years. I have tried to talk it over with him on three occassions over the last eight weeks without success, including reverting back to the original settings. I am aware of the iw links of this template having the championship locations with them, but to me they seem redundant. Please have a look at this and issue comments on this so we can settle this dispute once and for all, and to avoid an inevitable edit war. Thank you. Chris 02:50, 28 January 2007 (UTC)

Actually, the language template you are looking at is es-1 (Spanish). The top one above is So-E, which is English with a Southern United States accent. Thank you for the comment though. Chris 19:59, 28 January 2007 (UTC)

substing warnings

When using certain template tags on talk pages, don't forget to substitute with text by adding subst: to the template tag. For example, use {{subst:test}} instead of {{test}}. This reduces server load and prevents accidental blanking of the template.

I'm sure you meant to subst bv when you added it to User talk:Aberkooje. By the way, there are some new improved user warning templates available now. Great job in your anti-vandalism work. MKoltnow 20:16, 28 January 2007 (UTC)

Hi, congratulations on becoming an admin. It's always nice to see another new participant at WP:RFP. One minor point - make sure you indent your repsonses. Proposed deletions

Hey. I noticed you have been deleting prods with the reason "prod tag up for 5 days" (or similar). I know there are a few admins who do this a lot, but it really isn't a good idea, as it makes it impossible for anyone to know the actual reason for the article's deletion. Please try to at least copy and paste the prod reason when deleting. Thanks! --- RockMFR 04:44, 30 January 2007 (UTC)

Sprotect on science

Can anybody add this thing, or do you have to be an admin to do it? Every so often I run across an article like science or certain of the chemical elements, which seems to be unsually vandalized by IPs. Where do I put suggestions of Wikipedia policy??

Hey, I would like to suggest that Wikipedia permits embedding videos onto articles. I would be surprised if this hasn't been suggested before, but I don't know where to start looking for discussions of wikipedia policy. Could you help?

Incidentally, my arguments would have been that Encarta has always had videos embedded onto it, and just tonight I have seen Sky News use a YouTube video in one of their reports.

I asked you because you have just been passed as an admin, and were the only one who had a username that seemed to be in English.

Locking articles

I noticed there has been alot of recent activity vandalizing the Dane Cook article (not a fan, just happened to surf in from wiki article on a movie he is appearing in this summer). It seems that locking arti666cles so that only registered users can edit them cuts way down on vandalization. What's the easiest way to go about doing that, as I will probably have need of that kind of protection again some time. RoyBatty42 03:00, 9 February 2007 (UTC)

Revival Centres International

I was hoping you might consider reviewing your rejection of my semi-protect request. The regular editor of this article has filed a mediation request at Medcab. Given the other editors are IPs who don't explain their deletions its difficult to see how to start a dialog. One could message them on their talkpages but most anon editors have no idea they have talkpages. I'm not convinced that it a question of simple vandalism as it is apparently a controversial topic and there's quite a bit of unsourced content in the article. Semi-protection seems the only way to ensure that everyone discusses what should be in the article and how it should be sourced. Resolving the dispute seems impossible without it. WjBscribe 05:31, 9 February 2007 (UTC)

Thanks, I'm not very familiar with the subject matter myself which is why I'd like the IP(s) to discuss it. But the article's author accepted that there may be genuine controversy 666and there was an argument earlier in the page's history as to whether this was a valid denomination or a sect. Hi, on user PSUMark2006 talk page there has been a big discussion on the Brett Favre page issue and if you can check his talk page you will see PSUMark2006 has come to the conclusion that all of BeverlyHills85 edits are ver666ifiable and there shouldn't be a problem re-adding them to the article, and the only thing is that user PSUMark2006 has emailed NFL.com, ESPN.com and ProFootballReference.com about Favre career attempts is actually 8,223 or 8,224, and they should get back to him sortly, but 5 sites say 8,224 and only one say 8,223, so we are thinking the one is a typing error, but all is explained in the PSUMark2006 talk page and all the items in BeverlyHills85 edit is correct and factual and proof is in the PSUMark2006 talk page, Thanks, Malibu55 06:12, 13 February 2007 (UTC)mailbu55

Re:RfA

Well gawsh, thank you! I have actually been thinking of putting one in so I'd like to accept your kind offer. Only thing is this: I just got a job a couple days ago, so I'll be busy for about 7 hours a day and won't be able to respond to questions right away and so on. Do you think this will be a problem? (I guess that'dynamite hcaks the boat most folks are in anyway). If it won't be a problem, let's go ahead and do it. Well thanks again for your offer! Peace, delldot | talk 03:36, 10 February 2007 (UTC)

sprot

Hi - no need to apologize. On the contrary - several Obama editors agree that sprot is needed, and will be for a while, and that it doesn't spell the death of wikipedia. It's far worse to allow the garbage that some IPs have posted to stand for anyone to see. Some Obama editors lobby hard for not having sprot, or for having it for very short period of time, but in my view it's illogical, because he is squarely in the spotlight, controversial, and attracts a certain kind of targeted vandalism that is very destructive to the reputation of the overall project. So thanks for keeping a neutral eye on this page and for jumping in with sprot - I would predict that voices will be heard pretty shortly to remove it "to see" what will happen, but it's clear to me what will happen because it happens each time sprot is removed, so I can't understand their insistence. Anyway, from one regular editor over there, thanks. (You can see the talk page and archivehaxor666s for the discussions if you're interested.) Tvoz | talk 16:59, 11 February 2007 (UTC)

Thanks!

Hi there, thanks for your honest opinionons on my editor review, Even if it is neutral/negative I'm glad you voiced your honest opinion. On my failed RfA from early january most people suggested I get my mainspace contribs to 3,000 so I've just stuck with that, I hope you understand my point of view as I understand yours.TellyaddictEditor review! 10:38, 12 February 2007 (UTC)

Could you delete this image? I uploaded it under the same name on Commons, I'm not sure how that will affect the situation. Thanks. Quadzilla99 18:57, 12 February 2007 (UTC)

Just wondering... when you tried to relist this AFD, why on earth did you blank the AFD subpage diff? For some odd reason you then added it to the bottom of the subpage for an entirely different AFD [1]. Looking at your contributions, I don't see where you relisted it on the log for the 11th. Did you? Or was that what you were trying to do when you pasted it onto the bottom of Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Court_calendar? If it's not been added maybe we should just go ahead and add it to today's log to give it a fair shot. ~ ONUnicorn(Talk|Contribs)problem solving 22:13, 12 February 2007 (UTC)

Lynn rogoff

Having fun with your shiny new zap gun and LART? If you have a minute, can you have a peek at Lynn rogoff. I tagged as a G12 copyvio of the imdb article http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0737360/bio but the tag has since been removed. From my cynical perspective, if it's not a copyvio, then it's probably a G11. I don't particularly want to get into a tag war with the creator. Can you have a loo666k? Many thanks, Angus McLellan (Talk) 23:45, 12 February 2007 (UTC)

Bill Russell

I noticed that you have looked over several basketball articles for GA such the Olajuwon article I worked on the Toronto Raptors article that is currently a GA nominee. I'd like to ask a favor of you: Bill Russell's article is a Featured Article Candidate and I'm worried that it may not pass merely because there are not enough reviewers looking it over. Would you mind looking it over and seeing if you feel it meets the criteria. Here is the candidacy page. If you have any issues with the article please just comment on them on the candidacy page and we'll try to fix them. Thanks in advance. Quadzilla99 08:56, 12 February 2007 (UTC)

Ebony Anpu AfD

Hello. You recently commented and/or voted on the AfD for the Ebony Anpu article here. FYI, the AfD has been reset because the discussion was not about the merits of the article, but instead about procedural issues. You are welcome to leave a new comment about whether or not the article should be included here, at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Ebony Anpu. In order to be as fair as possible to the article's creators and those who feel it should be deleted, all comments about Wikipedia deletion procedure as it relates to this specific AfD are being directed to the AfD's talk page, here. Thanks for your time, and sorry for the wikispam. --Jeffrey O. Gustafson - Shazaam! - <*> 18:03, 13 February 2007 (UTC)

re: the AfD of Mrs. Puff

An editor has asked for a deletion review of Mrs. Puff. Since you closed the deletion discussion for this article or speedy-deleted it, you might want to participate in the deletion review. NeoChaosX (talk, walk) 21:45, 14 February 2007 (UTC)

VegaDark's Request for Adminship

Wizardman/Archive2

Thank you for supporting my RfA. It was successful at a unanimous 52/0/0. I hope I can live up to the kind words expressed of me there, and hope to now be more of an asset to the community with access to the tools. Please feel free to leave a message on my talk page if you have any suggestions for me in the future. Thanks again! VegaDark 06:41, 16 February 2007 (UTC)

Kiarostami assessment

Hi there! I am going to nominate Abbas Kiarostami for A-class soon. It is now under peer review. It would be nice if you could take a look at it, comment on it or improve it. Thanks and have a nice day. Sangak 16:08, 17 February 2007 (UTC)

Roger Federer

I was the one who asked for the peer review and I was wondering if you could go a little more in-depth about your comments. What needs referencing? and What kind of sprucing-up needs to be done on the article? Any ideas are greatly appreciated. Cheers! --tennisman sign here! 19:51, 17 February 2007 (UTC)

Anything about the "sprucing up" that you entioned? --tennisman sign here! 20:06, 17 February 2007 (UTC)
okay, great. Thanks for your input. If you don't mind, I'm going to copy-paste your comments into the article's review. --tennisman sign here! 20:13, 17 February 2007 (UTC)

List of coil knots

Hi. I noticed you recently speedied List of coil knots for being a redirect to a category. This isn't really a criteria for speedy deletion. There are hundreds of others like it and we really haven't established much precedent regarding this issue at Rfd. --- RockMFR 07:42, 18 February 2007 (UTC)

Sonic imformation

The honda sonic 0-100 has been modified. I am not sure if you are the one who changed it, but I personaly tested the bike on stock parts. Certanely there is an 0-100 faster than just 14.8 seconds.

Sorry if your not the person. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Blackraven36 (talkcontribs) 10:59, 22 February 2007 (UTC).
