Exodus International
I'm going to point out that i removed the tag next to my reference on the Exodus International article for another source (with editorial oversight). I've wrote it here instead because Lionel does not respond to comments or discussion (at all) Thanks Jenova20 15:14, 28 March 2011 (UTC)
- Good job, and a decent source there. (I'm fairly certain the Register is reliable, it's certainly not obviously biased on the gay topics) As for editors who do not respond to comments and discussion, you will come across them. However, I'm not sure Lionel is one of them, as he did respond when I left him a message. It's often about tone, remembering that editors are humans and are likely to have differing opinions to you - that doesn't make them wrong, just... different. WormTT · (talk) 17:07, 28 March 2011 (UTC)
- I'm not saying that at all.
- I'm just saying he was rude the way he dealt with this as he could have just responded to one of the 3 different headings started, one of which being on his talk page.
- Instead he's acted in a way that has harmed any future project we may work on together or any future discussions.
- Thanks Jenova20 17:30, 28 March 2011 (UTC)

Too much work and almost a breakdown
No doubt you noticed since tuesday i wasn't on here half as much. Well my work load has expanded to the point where i've set a date to quit my job. It's been 3 years and i'm sick of the crummy money (lack of) and being overworked. The final straw came from being given a scrap of paper as a new contract of employment, which i plan to sue my boss for when i leave since i'm taking a paycut but getting more hours. Since wednesday i'm on antidepressants, which may explain why i was in such a good mood i left Lionel a nice message (even though he probably won't reply) You don't mind me taking longer on my next few exams do you? Thanks for setting up archiving and your patience with me =] Jenova20 20:03, 31 March 2011 (UTC)

WikiCup 2011 March newsletter
We are half way through round two of the WikiCup, which will end on 28 April. Of the 64 current contestants, 32 will make it through to the next round; the two highest in each pool, and the 16 next highest scorers. At the time of writing, our current overall leader is Hurricanehink (submissions) with 231 points, who leads Pool H. Piotrus (submissions) (Pool G) also has over 200 points, while 9 others (three of whom are in Pool D) have over 100 points. Remember that certain content (specifically, articles/portals included in at least 20 Wikipedias as of 31 December 2010 or articles which are considered "vital") is worth double points if promoted to good or featured status, or if it appears on the main page in the Did You Know column. There were some articles last round which were eligible for double points, but which were not claimed for. For more details, see Wikipedia:WikiCup/Scoring.
A running total of claims can be seen here. However, numerous competitors are yet to score at all- please remember to submit content soon after it is promoted, so that the judges are able to review entries. The number of points that will be needed to reach round three is not clear- everyone needs to get their entries in now to guarantee their places! If you are concerned that your nomination will not receive the necessary reviews, and you hope to get it promoted before the end of the round, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. However, please remember to continue to offer reviews at GAC, FAC and all the other pages that require them to prevent any backlogs which could otherwise be caused by the Cup. As ever, questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup and the judges are reachable on their talk pages, or by email. Good luck! If you wish to start receiving or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove yourself from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. J Milburn and The ed17 01:13, 1 April 2011 (UTC)

Help
The KoOlina Resort and Marina article I created was a mess. What happened? — Preceding unsigned comment added by The computer rocks! (talk • contribs) 16:55, 1 April 2011 (UTC)
- What happened? Well it looks like the initial article you created was just a one liner. You then copy and pasted the substance of KoOlina Resort - which is a problem because it loses the attiribution of the work. I'll get an admin to help out tidying it up. Give me a few moments. WormTT · (talk) 17:04, 1 April 2011 (UTC)
Not an admin
Hi there. I understand you are looking for examples of editors who are happy not being admins. Whether I am effective I leave for others to work out, but I have been a regular editor for a couple of years and have absolutely no interest in adminship, which would actually get in the way of editing as I would expect to spend all my time on processes and not actual editing. A valuable job, but its only to help the actual editing - which is the really important job here. If you want to use me as another example please feel free. All the best.--SabreBD (talk) 16:47, 30 March 2011 (UTC)

- While I don't know what this is in relation to, I'll chime in here... I'm also quite happy not being an admin. I hold admins to a much higher standard in regards to herd-mentality and civility than I do for everyday editors, and I don't think I can hold myself to the same standard. There are a number of admins that I think fail to meet my standards, even if they are good editors, and vice versa. -danjel (talk to me) 23:59, 31 March 2011 (UTC)

I'm not over familiar with him as I don't listen to the show very often, but is he a different Dave Brown to the Smooth Radio presenter? I get the impression he might be as you removed the template. I've restored it, but will take it out again in case they are different. TheRetroGuy (talk) 13:09, 2 April 2011 (UTC)
- No idea, I was just fixing the article as there was no reflist. I added a couple of fix tags as well, but I've not heard of Dave Brown. I'll have a bit of a snoop this evening, see if it's the same guy. WormTT · (talk) 14:57, 2 April 2011 (UTC)

- A bit more on this guy. There was a Dave Brown who presented a show on 102.2 Jazz FM in the early 2000s (I'm guessing also the same one), and I think he may have been on all the various incarnations of Smooth Radio. I'll post some thoughts on the talk page and see if anyone can shed more light on it. Cheers TheRetroGuy (talk) 18:53, 2 April 2011 (UTC)

Requested Move
Hi, me again. How do i do a requested move to a page that is already occupied? I'm suggesting "Toyota Corolla Spacio" to "Toyota Corolla Verso", reason: Verso is the most common name and a google english-only search confirms this with more than twice as many results. But...to do it i need to swap the pages so that spacio becomes a redirect instead of Corolla Verso, you follow? It's not controversial anyway as there's hardly any information on the page and no discussion. Thanks Jenova20 11:00, 11 April 2011 (UTC)
- I'm a little busy with meetings, but I think it has to be done by an admin. If you open up a requested move - that should hopefully give some instructions. Otherwise I'll have a look in an hour. WormTT · (talk) 11:54, 11 April 2011 (UTC)
- Okedokie
- Thanks Jenova20 11:56, 11 April 2011 (UTC)
- I've had a look at what you've done, and it looks good to me. Not sure if it should be listed as uncontroversial, as someone could disagree, but I don't know enough about the topic. If the admin thinks it's controversial, then I'm sure they will list it in the correct place. (By the way, if you ever come across a similar situation where the redirect page - in this case Corolla Verso - had only one edit, ie page creation, you would still be able to make the move.) WormTT · (talk) 12:36, 11 April 2011 (UTC)
- It's a stub with no discussion and it's not the most common name by far.
- It may become controversial but it's unlikely and very difficult to prove that 400,000 english articles are worth more compared to 1,000,000 on a quick Google search.
- It's terrible how car articles keep getting hijacked by asian or american contributors for the less common name and wording.
- Thanks for the help Jenova20 13:14, 11 April 2011 (UTC)
- Oh, I don't disagree, but WP:COMMONNAME may confuse things, as we should be looking on a worldwide scale. You can't blame an asian or american editor who has only heard of a "Spacio" (assuming that's where they're known as that) for assuming that's the common name. You've got a good point on the 400k vs 1m, but are you doing that on google.com or google.co.uk? It makes a difference ;). Anyway, you've done the right thing, put forward a suggestion for change. If someone has a problem with it, there will be a debate, which you can explain your point of view! WormTT · (talk) 13:17, 11 April 2011 (UTC)

- Looking worldwide English only for "Toyota Corolla Spacio" nets 177,000 results, to 1,040,000 for "Toyota Corolla Verso".
- So it's actually more than 5 times as common in English only articles.

- Danjel, I'm hardly hounding you. I have your talk page on my watchlist and I comment when I am interested. You may not notice that I AGREE with your removal. However, the last thing I want to do is irritate or annoy, so I'll remove myself from the debate, and take your page off my watchlist. WormTT · (talk) 09:45, 12 April 2011 (UTC)
- Yes, I did notice that. However, I'm also noticing that this is the nth time you've involved yourself where I'm involved and the second time I've asked you to back off.
- The problem is that your repeated involvement can be read two ways: (1) that you're acting in support of me (perhaps as a result of offwiki WP:CANVASing; or (2) that you're biased positively or negatively. It is irritating. I've said the same to another editor as well (who clearly showed a positive bias, and I felt that that was becoming a problem).

Rollback

- I'm glad you asked :D Firstly, well done, it shows the community has faith in you. Secondly, be careful with this new found faith, abusing rollback is one of the fastest ways to get yourself in trouble. Effectively, the button makes things a little bit easier when reverting vandalism. When you see an edit which is vandalism, click rollback and it
- reverts ALL edits by that user, back to the last edit by another user.
- adds a standard edit summary (as a minor edit)
- opens a new window with the user's contributions, so you can see where else they may have vandalised.
- It has some other "benefits", for example, it means you can undo edits from the watchlist or in the page history, though I've not found a real use for either of those. If I'm honest, it's not a BIG DEAL, but if you use it for non-vandalism purposes, you can land yourself in trouble. Have a read of Wikipedia:Rollback feature for more information WormTT · (talk) 14:12, 14 April 2011 (UTC)
- Thanks, i already read the Rollback page but couldn't find an answer for it's different from reverting.
- It's pretty much the same thing isn't it?

- (Talk page stalker) Reverting an edit reverts to the last page revision before that edit. When you rollback, it reverts to the last revision that wasn't performed by the user you rollbacked. Also, the rollback feature can only be used to revert blatant vandalism, and should never be used to revert good faith edits. Other than that, they're pretty much the same. — Oli OR Pyfan! 15:30, 14 April 2011 (UTC)
- Wait. Are you talking about manual reversion or the undo button? If your talking about the former, the only differences are:
- Rollback is much faster.
- Rollback marks the revision as minor.
- Rollback can only be used in cases of blatant vandalism.
- My first reply was about the undo button. I hope all this makes sense. — Oli OR Pyfan! 15:42, 14 April 2011 (UTC)
