Welcome

Welcome!

Hello, Xp54321, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

Adoption Offer

adoptoffer

Hi Xp54321.
I see you have tagged your user page with a request to be adopted, so i thought i would try to get the honor to be the first to offer it :). From your contributions i can see you have been active in two of my favorite areas: vandalism patrol and newpage patrol, so if you need any help with those, i can offer it. No matter if you wish to accept the adoption offer, i'm always available if you have a question regarding Wikipedia when you need that.
Happy editing, and with kind regards,
Excirial (Talk,Contribs) 15:13, 8 May 2008 (UTC)
A cookie as a welcome!

What else can i say then: Thanks for accepting my adoption offer? And what else can i do then bring some cookies?

You are actually the first user i have ever adopted, so im still rather new to the entire adopting business, but ill do my best to be usefull. I know each user uses a different style to adopting people, so i hope my idea of how to do it appeals to you. Since you are already quite experienced i don't think i will need to go over basic stuff such as editing, so i will just skip that.

What i will do is monitor your edits, and if i see anything that i can help with (Be it easier ways to do that particular edit or otherwise) , i will just walk in and drop a note about it on your talk page. Also feel free to ask as many questions as you want to; i virtually never get bored of them so in case you want to know something, just ask away.

Well again: Welcome, and thanks for the trust. I look forward to working with you! Excirial (Talk,Contribs) 07:58, 9 May 2008 (UTC)

Question(s)

I thing I set my auto-archiving thing up correctly but I have a question. Will the archiving bot automatically create an archive box or do I have to do that myself?(Which I don't know how to do.)Xp54321 (talk) 20:26, 9 May 2008 (UTC)

Thank You!!!

Xp54321 (talk) 20:47, 9 May 2008 (UTC)

Hi Xp!
First of i would like to tell you that Misza only archives everyone's talk page once a day, so you don't see any direct effects of adding the code just now. I edited the code on your talk page a little bit to limit each talk archive on your account to 250kb in size (Roughly 250 discussions) to allow somewhat easier searching of past discussions (Believe me, you will need that in time :) ). When an archive is full, Misza will generate a new one for you.
As for the archive box code, i already added it to your user page. At this time the content link is still a redlink, but that's because nothing is archived yet. The only thing that has to be done manually is adding a new link to the archive box once Misza stats archiving to a new box. This can ve seen if the counter in the code is upped a number. Excirial (Talk,Contribs) 20:56, 9 May 2008 (UTC)
And your welcome :) I edited the code before starting on the above message, but it seems i wasn't fast enough to prevent you from seeing it already. Excirial (Talk,Contribs) 20:56, 9 May 2008 (UTC)

Statusbot

I added the code to the top of your talk page, and as of such there is a nicely colored Led Light on the top right of your user page. Till one of the statusbots updates your current status it will default to OffLine. Lets see how quick that changed (If it does at all, i never used statusbot ;) ) Excirial (Talk,Contribs) 21:39, 9 May 2008 (UTC)

Of course i do mind them, otherwise i would be ignoring them, wouldn't i :)? Im all seriousness (As a non native speaker of English) that line has always intrigued me. If you would not mind something, then you would not care to take any action over it (Be it answering, or being annoyed for the other side of the coin). My fascination for that line aside, of course i have no issue whatsoever with questions and answering them. Feel free to ask, and feel free to ask more in case you want to! Excirial (Talk,Contribs) 21:45, 9 May 2008 (UTC)
Thank you Ms. French!<sarcasm>:)My language arts teacher. Well ever heard the phrase opposites attract? I'm serious but not completely. And I too find the English language intriguing. It's a hard language to learn due to many rules, rule-breakers, and where-that-come-from words, and paradoxical words/phrases. Such as "look out!" when you in fact need to do the opposite and take cover. Anyways in the future I'll be a bit more <cough> careful about my choice of words. Something like I hope my questions don't annoy you.:)I should also ask another question here what do people mean by native speaker of english?Xp54321 (talk) 21:54, 9 May 2008 (UTC)
A native speaker of English is someone who has English as his or her First language In short you can say that the official language of the country the person is born in, is most times the users first language. If a person speaks another language other then the first language, its called (You guessed it) the second language. As a little sidenote: If someone speaks this second language so well he or she is at the level you could expect from someone with the language as a primary one, it sayd that the user has Dual Fluency, or the ability to comprehend both languages perfectly. RFA Planning

Hello, and I see your an adopter of Excirial. I just wanted to say that planning an RFA is not really encouraged. I did that about a month ago and I learned it wasn't good. I was actually planning to try an RFA at 5000 edits, but it would be better if you just tried if your ready. Look at me, I've been on wikipedia for almost three months and I already have over 9000 edits and I am not even close to being ready, even with 2500+ mainspace edits. Comments? I'd be happy to answer.--RyRy5 (talkReview) 03:59, 10 May 2008 (UTC)

Ready for trying the WP:RFA.--RyRy5 (talkReview) 04:08, 10 May 2008 (UTC)
RyRy has quite a valid point here. It is indeed true that planning an RFA (far) in advance is discouraged. The reason for this is that an RFA is a vote based procedure, where the voters are other editors. Generally saying planning an RFA in advance is frowned upon during the voting process, both because it gives the idea that the nominee just nominates himself at a set point no matter what ("Ready or not, here i am!").
Its best to put an RFA at a stage you feel you are completely ready for it, and found an activity that requires administrative privileges. I am also considering running for adminship someday, but even now there are things that i want and need to learn. Apart from that i just love tagging pages for NP Patrol, which simply doesn't require administrative privileges. Once i truly feel like working dedicated on WP:AIV and WP:NPP i will issue an RFA. Consider doing the same, There are loads of areas to have some fun in, and which don't require admin privileges :) Excirial (Talk,Contribs) 07:29, 10 May 2008 (UTC)
I was going to mention this, but i didnt want to dampen your spirit, you just keep working hard, eventually someone will notice you and your abilities and they will nominate you. You have what it takes. ;-) Realist2 ('Come Speak To Me') 15:07, 10 May 2008 (UTC)
I noticed you have put up an IQ userbox, believe it or not that is frowned upon at adminship, there was a person you did pass his adminship but 5 people opposed him nomination because of that userbox believing it was showing off. Adminship means there are strict rules on what your user page should contain. I have had to remove tons of stuff from mine. Its just a suggestion, you can still pass with the IQ user box, it just makes it a little harder. Yours Realist2 ('Come Speak To Me') 16:48, 10 May 2008 (UTC)
Its silly i know, you are right though, adminship requirements are too high, yet you still have a very good chance in the future. Realist2 ('Come Speak To Me') 16:56, 10 May 2008 (UTC)
Sure ill take a look later today, ill give you some feedback soon. Realist2 ('Come Speak To Me') 17:01, 10 May 2008 (UTC)

Congratulations so far!

I see you have been busy! And of course: Congratulations on the barnstar!

As for where to keep the barnstar, it might indeed by handy to set up several pages with navigation. In case you are interested, you can copy over the navigation from my user page and adapt it to create your own. Actually you may copy over my entire user page and set it up as your own if you would like to, i got no problems with that (Several users already did actually :) ).

If you feel like creating your own navigation box, here is the link to the source code of mine: User:Excirial/Navigation. It should prove easy to adapt to your own needs, with which i will of course help if you want to. Why i am not simply building it into your page already as i did before with the archive box? Simple, i believe an user page design is rather personal. What i like to see might not be what you like to see, so before i simply smash something of this magnitude in, i would first like to hear your opinion :) Excirial (Talk,Contribs) 07:29, 10 May 2008 (UTC)

I just wanted to say that I was one of the ones who copied his user page. :P It looks very professional and orginized. It looks positivly great in other words! :) -- RyRy5 (talkReview) 15:44, 10 May 2008 (UTC)

The reason I deleted the reference to the presence of fasces in the US Congress from the article on Fascist Symbolism is that it was blatantly tendentious -- aimed at making a political point. The reference was that the fasces on the podium were plainly visible during George W. Bush's New World Order speech. True fact. However, those fasces were equally plainly visible during every other speech made at the US Congress since the 1860s. Does the fact that the fasces were visible during the reading of Abraham Lincoln's address in 1862 reveal some truth about Lincoln or the fasces? Does the fact that the fasces were visible during the address to Congress by Winston Churchill after WWII imply that he was a closet fascist? Of course not.

I believe this paragraph should be deleted in its entirety, or perhaps noted in a single line: "Fasces also appear on the podium of the U.S. Congress, which was constructed during the period 1851-67." —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.126.133.83 (talk) 16:12, 10 May 2008 (UTC)

about "Kushal" article

Hi, I guess you are the one who changed back the wiki article on Kushal.

I am an Indian and fluent speaker of Hindi, and as far as I know "Kush" (कुश) Does not mean happy, "Khush" (खुश) The difference cannot be very well distinguished in English. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 117.192.229.123 (talk) 16:28, 10 May 2008 (UTC)

Special:Contributions/Xp54321

Sure, I'd be glad to. Just give me a few minutes to look over your contributions. By the way, I've noticed you reverting a lot today, but I'll take a closer look. -- RyRy5 (talkReview) 16:44, 10 May 2008 (UTC)

You've done mostly reverting of vandalism I see. Keep it up, but just be careful when using Twinkle as misusing it can result to a block. But I don't see very much article writing/improving. Vandal fighting is good when on an RFA, but mots people support good article writers. Have you ever heard of WP:DYK? I suggest participating on there. I've recently started nominating articles for DYK and all of them seem to pass. Having many DYK's, GA's, etc. is a really good thing to have in an RFA. Basically, try creatin some articles. If you need any help at all and Excirial is offline, feel free to talk to me. I'm online at a good amount of time everyday.--RyRy5 (talkReview) 16:58, 10 May 2008 (UTC)

Hey

Here is your edit history. Your doint good, you only have 280 odd mainspace edits so try to build them up. Your total edits is over 1000!!! Thats really good but you really want to get the mainspace edits higher. Also notice that there is a lot of RED. That red means that your not leaving edit summarys enough. When you make an edit make sure you give a summary, i forget aswell dont worry. Other than that your doing well. Make sure you keep that link somewhere safe, every few days check it to see how your improving. ;-) Realist2 ('Come Speak To Me') 20:03, 10 May 2008 (UTC)

I agree with R2. Keep up the good work and follow his/her suggestions. Also, if you want to make sure that you do not have an edit summary when saving, go to my preferences - Editing -then checkmark the box that says "Prompt me when entering a blank edit summary" next to it. Questions? -- RyRy5 (talkReview) 21:24, 10 May 2008 (UTC)

Loganberry

Meaning the article, not me! Just a quick note to mention that your Twinkle-assisted reversion (this one) was incorrect to change "American" to "Australian". Not having knowledge of how Twinkle works, I'm guessing that the heap of white space (which was incorrect) in the earlier revision was the reason the change was made. I've edited back to "American", but kept the spacing correct, I hope. Loganberry (Talk) 23:50, 11 May 2008 (UTC)

Further advise

Hi ive been reading a few adminship requests. There is an editer who does similar work to you (only a lot more of it as hes been here so long - hes up to 5000 edits) and his request isnt going too well. People over there like anti vandalism editers but they also want to see some article building. A lot of the stuff you to with twinkle etc doesnt require much interaction with other editers. You need to show you can work with others, resolve disagreements and revert vandalism. I would suggest you start contributing to building articles aswell. Split your time 2/3 reverting vandalism and 1/3 working on articles. Even if its just checking spelling, grammer or looking for reliable sources. If there is a topic you know a lot about or something that interests you, try working on it. You havent been doing much editing recently, is everything ok? Realist2 ('Come Speak To Me') 17:34, 12 May 2008 (UTC)

OK, dont give up though. Realist2 ('Come Speak To Me') 23:23, 12 May 2008 (UTC)

Check It Out

Check out my new userpage! RyRy5 renovated it for me.:)Xp54321 (talk) 13:56, 15 May 2008 (UTC)

I have to say, it looks rather nice :).
Its also quite funny to see that RyRy5 incorporated part of my own coding into the new design, along with parts of his own code. I was already pleasantly surprised when people asked if they could copy my userpage, but seeing that part of my codebase is being used for future designs actually really cool as well! Excirial (Talk,Contribs) 14:03, 15 May 2008 (UTC)
Thanks for saying how nice the page looked. Oh and a special thanks for the barnstar. I'm currently using a laptop so it may take me a while to respond if so. I'll be at my own computer in a while.--RyRy5 (talkReview) 22:52, 15 May 2008 (UTC)

Question(s)

What is the template for the userbox saying your a new page s patroller. I am one now. So this is how they mark pages for csd so fast.:)Xp54321 (talk) 22:33, 15 May 2008 (UTC)

Thats
Also, a few words of advice and warnings regarding Newpage patrol. Lets start with the advise: if you are serious about becoming a new page patrol, you might like to add the following script to your monobook: importScript('User:TheJosh/Scripts/NewPagePatrol.js');. This is an automatically updating list of new pages created, which is way easier then refreshing the new page logs every time.
As for the words of warning: NewPage patrol is at start most likely the hardest area on Wikipedia to work in, mostly due to the fact that there are a lot of rule sets that apply to new pages. Before starting as a newpage patrol i worked several months as a vandalism patrol, which meant i knew the rules rather well. Even so, i found it quite difficult to patrol correctly the first month, as it is difficult and important work; Tag to early and you might delete valuable pages, Tag to late and junk might get trough. As a tip, don't count on the admins stopping you if you tag something that might not be ok. I received a notice from an admin a month after i started that i tagged to aggressively. I had been tagging the same kind of articles for a month, so ii ended up having removed several potentiality good articles.
Make sure you know can almost literally cite WP:CSD, and that you have read WP:Notable (Including its subsections for certain topics), WP:BLP and WP:BIO. Apart from that make sure what template is used for what situation. When in doubt just tag it for PROD, or drop a note on my talk page. I will be glad to help check a page (I do that all day anyway :P).
And at the very last: Make sure you can keep your cool when people start running in on your talk page, hurling insults and screams. I has countless idiots fellow editors asking why their page was deleted, some being quite impolite. In those cases just explain why you removed/tagged the page, and if they keep insulting or vandalize your user page, just warn them with a NPA (No personal attack) template. If things get really hot, just report them at WP:AIAV, but that should be a last resort.
Hope this helps, Excirial (Talk,Contribs) 22:56, 15 May 2008 (UTC)

Foreign Langaues Articles

Hi XP!

First off, thanks for the barnstar; That it may twinkle forever on my my award page :)

A second thing i wanted to discuss are foreign language articles. Every now and then you will encounter a page that contains a non english language. Most times those articles will look like a whole lot of gibberish, or they are swarmed with non understandable Arabic characters. In case you can read the language it is written in, its easy to decide if the article fits in one of the other CSD caregories. If it does, tag it for removal under the proper category, and add a Explanation Here uder the CSD tag explaining the admin what the article is all about.

In most cases you wont be able to read the articles contents however. When that happends, tag the page with the language template (Substituting language for the language its written in. leaving it blank will default to unknown). After that is done just follow the templates directions and place a request on the request for translation area. People there will check if its noticable (If not, its CSD'ed) and will translate it to English. If that is not done within 20 days, the article is deleted.

RyRy5's adoption of you...

Hi,

I don't know whether Ryan offered or not, but he needs to be removed as your adopter as he himself is currently adopted, and this is not allowed under WP:ADOPT.

If you have more questions, please ask!

THanks,

BlueGoblin7even 20:51, 17 May 2008 (UTC)

(ec) Your welcome. But if you didn't know, I'm currently in my own adoption. I'm not allowed to adopt. I appreciate you thinking I'm an experienced user, and I think I'm more experienced than you but I can't adopt you. However, you can always ask me questions when you like, I just can't take the name as an adopter. I hope you understand. -- Ryan Cross (talkReview) 20:52, 17 May 2008 (UTC)
Rollback is a special tool used for only trusted users. Read Wikipedia:Rollback feature and Wikipedia:Rollback policy. Rollback is used for vandalism and vandalism only. It is not used for good faith edits and non-vandalism. If misused, it can be taken away. You can request for rollback at WP:RFR or you can ask an admin directly.--Ryan Cross (talkReview) 21:09, 17 May 2008 (UTC)
No, but I use other tools besides rollback and i think they work fine. I've decided I don't need rollback, at least for a while.--Ryan Cross (talkReview) 21:19, 17 May 2008 (UTC)

Rollback

After reviewing your request for rollback, I have enabled rollback on your account. Keep in mind these things when going to use rollback:

  • Getting rollback is no more momentous than installing Twinkle.
  • Rollback can only be used to revert vandalism only, and not good faith edits.
  • Rollback may be removed at any time.

If you do not want rollback, then contact me and I'll remove it. Also, for some information on how to use rollback, you can view this page. I'm sure you'll do great with rollback, just leave me a message on my talk page. Happy editing! Malinaccier (talk) 21:21, 17 May 2008 (UTC)

You doubt you'll get it huh. :) --Ryan Cross (talkReview) 21:23, 17 May 2008 (UTC)
You can use rollback, but there are others!

 Done--Ryan Cross (talkReview) 21:28, 17 May 2008 (UTC)
It indicates that you have rollback rights. --Ryan Cross (talkReview) 21:32, 17 May 2008 (UTC)

Why, thank you. :) If you haven't noticed from my user page, I take great pleasure in helping others.--Ryan Cross (talkReview) 21:36, 17 May 2008 (UTC)

I have full faith in you! :) Just make sure to use it on vandalism only (I can't stress that enough) Malinaccier (talk) 21:55, 17 May 2008 (UTC)

Your abuse of automated tools

Please stop making edits such as these 1, 2, 3 using AWB. Wikipedia is not an editcount race; if you continue to make trivial and inconsequential edits like this, in clear violation of the AWB rules of use, I will remove your AWB access.iridescent 21:39, 17 May 2008 (UTC)

Re:AWB

Sorry, but I also don't know how to start it. I downloaded it and I was approved, but I have no clue how to use it. Ask the user who approved it. Thanks. -- RyRy5 (talkReview) 00:00, 17 May 2008 (UTC)

Seeing this, I see you figured out how to use it. Do you mind telling me? -- RyRy5 (talkReview) 00:11, 17 May 2008 (UTC)
I assume it's working from the above link. I don't use it myself so I'm not the best person to ask. There is a list of developers on the WP:AWB page, you could ask one of them if you're still having problems (I also assume you've followed the download instructions and have .NET properly installed). --Rodhullandemu 00:14, 17 May 2008 (UTC)
Thanks, I'll try later. Also, User:Rodhullandemu was the one who appoved it for me. Maybe asking someone else who uses it activly on recent changes. --RyRy5 (talkReview) 00:18, 17 May 2008 (UTC)

Hey Xp54321. I just realized that asking you where you extracted the file to won't make much of a difference. Anyway, wherever you extracted it to, open that folder and find the icon that says "AutoWikiBrowser". That's how you start the program. If you want to put that on your desktop, then simply copy that file and put it on your desktop. Feel free to ask me any questions you may have on my talk page. Cheers, Kodster (You talkin' to me?) (Stuff I messed up) 00:39, 17 May 2008 (UTC)
I forwarded it. Cheers, Kodster (You talkin' to me?) (Stuff I messed up) 01:01, 17 May 2008 (UTC)
Good job. I still have yet to get 1000 edits (to the mainspace, of course). Right now, I have...670 mainspace edits. I've been here for 2 months and 19 days. Oh well, I've got a long way to go. Cheers, Kodster (You talkin' to me?) (Stuff I messed up) 01:08, 17 May 2008 (UTC)

Good job. But you really don't have to tell anybody. I've learned that. Editcountitis is a horrible desiese. Beware... -- RyRy5 (talkReview) 01:10, 17 May 2008 (UTC)

Just wanted to let you know, here's a link to your edit history, broken down into mainspace, talk page, etc. edits. It's usually what the admins use if they need to know anything about your edits. Cheers, Kodster (You talkin' to me?) (Stuff I messed up) 01:15, 17 May 2008 (UTC)

2000!!! Well done, keep it up. Realist2 ('Come Speak To Me') 01:34, 17 May 2008 (UTC)

Wow, almost all the RED edits for this month have disappeared, well done. Realist2 (Come Speak To Me) 22:47, 20 May 2008 (UTC)

I have little involvement with vandalism, aside protecting the pages on my watchlist and asking for semi protections. Im an article creater, im not involved with maintainence, sorry. I dont know how to set one up. Realist2 (Come Speak To Me) 22:54, 20 May 2008 (UTC)

I would do more vandalism work but between building articles and reviewing articles for GA i dont have any more time lol. I do my bit of vandal revision and warning templates when i see it but dont actively go looking for vandalism. I often report vandalism and ask for page protections. Yes kodster dd inform me, gutted, still its only a few weeks. He gave me my wikibirthday present early lol. Realist2 (Come Speak To Me) 23:04, 20 May 2008 (UTC)

Signature

Okay, here's how it works. First, you go to your preference, checkmark the box that reads "Raw Signature" next to it. Add the following code to the box above the box you check marked (It should be a long box you add the following code to):

<font color="191970">Xp54321</font> (<font color="FF8C00">Vandals Beware!!!</font>,<font color="FF8C00">Contribs</font>)

-- Ryan Cross (talkReview) 20:41, 17 May 2008 (UTC)

Insert

<font color="191970">Xp54321</font> (<font color="FF8C00">Vandals Beware!!!</font>,<font color="FF8C00">Contribs</font>)

into your preference and tick "Raw Signature". See what the result is, let me know. Realist2 (Come Speak To Me) 23:15, 20 May 2008 (UTC)

Do you want to try and make that Vandals beware and contributions stand out more, its a little hard to see. Realist2 (Come Speak To Me) 23:22, 20 May 2008 (UTC)

OK, we will take this in stages, first try this one in your preferences

<font color="191970">Xp54321</font> (<font color="FF8C00">Vandals Beware!!!</font>,<font color="FF8C00">Contribs</font>)

Sure ill leave a comment shortly. Im confused, are you happy with your user name or do you want further alterations? I dont mind. Realist2 (Come Speak To Me) 23:41, 20 May 2008 (UTC)

Ah, i dont know how to make letters bigger, the only thing i could think of is to make it all capital letters. You could also try a darker yellow like i have. --Realist2 (Come Speak To Me) 23:54, 20 May 2008 (UTC)

Ah, i realise why the letters are small, its because they are floating on a higher level. To make the letters the normal size you would have to remove the rise on Beware vandals. Notice how my 2 is slightly smaller, its because its risen. Realist2 (Come Speak To Me) 23:59, 20 May 2008 (UTC)

If you want be to bring it down i will, as for my present, lol, you still have some time to think about it. ;-) Realist2 (Come Speak To Me) 00:06, 21 May 2008 (UTC)

Try this to bring it down

<font color="191970">Xp54321</font> (<font color="FF8C00">Vandals Beware!!!</font>,<font color="FF8C00">Contribs</font>)

Re:Vandalism

LOL, editing in Europe! Yeah, I just got your message, and the editor is blocked. :) Cheers, Kodster (heLLo) (Me did that) 20:40, 20 May 2008 (UTC)

Also, if something like that happens again, please tell someone else. I was lucky to get on Wikipedia this time, but...I have to go, like right now, so just look at my Wikibreak box on the top of the page. Don't want to be rude, but I'm really busy, so I won't have time to answer anyone's messages. Thanks. 20:43, 20 May 2008 (UTC)

As have I, looking forward to your answer. Al Tally talk 23:12, 22 May 2008 (UTC)

Your RFA

I think you're on the right track, but an RFA now is too early. A lot of RFA contributors look for 5 months of active editing or more before they support an RFA. I would suggest you withdraw this as I'm pretty sure it won't pass. Regards, Malinaccier (talk) 01:31, 23 May 2008 (UTC)

Rollback question

Why did you rollback this as well as this? What do you believe is wrong about these two edits that is unquestionably vandalism? Metros (talk) 01:42, 23 May 2008 (UTC)

Because of your explanation, I have taken away your rollback rights. Just because a user doesn't provide an edit summary doesn't create vandalism. Both of those edits were not vandalism. Metros (talk) 01:54, 23 May 2008 (UTC)
"I'm still irritated over rollback." Sorry to hear you're upset by this, but you misused the tool so you had it taken away. If you get in back in the future, I suggest you approach it with extra care so you don't get irritated again. Metros (talk) 22:09, 23 May 2008 (UTC)
Very true, sorry buddy, your going to have to take the rollback stuff off your user page ;-( --Realist2 (Come Speak To Me) 23:14, 23 May 2008 (UTC)
No problem. --Realist2 (Come Speak To Me) 23:18, 23 May 2008 (UTC)

And now Huggle

So I see you're using Huggle now, but you're still reverting inappropriately. There appears to be nothing wrong with this edit that you reverted. Can you explain why you reverted? Thanks, Metros (talk) 01:05, 24 May 2008 (UTC)

XP, careful with Huggle. I personally have used it a few times and have made a couple of errors, hence why I discontinued my use of it. It works extremely fast and efficient in the hands of an experienced user, but may cause unwanted errors. I encourage you to try simple WP:REVERT for the time being so that you can easy locate and undo vandalism. Once you have that sorted out, move to a script, preferably WP:TWINKLE. Wisdom89 (T / C) 01:10, 24 May 2008 (UTC)

RfA

Hello there, the problem is that without many edits to the Wikipedia namespace, it's impossible to tell whether you understand the policies that you'd need to be familiar with as an administrator. I'd say just continue editing well, make sure you contribute more in projectspace (for example at articles for deletion) and try again in a few months time. Black Kite 01:43, 23 May 2008 (UTC)

Third that. Recommend withdrawal. Say the word and I'll close it. Enigma message 01:48, 23 May 2008 (UTC)
Well, you've been here less than three months and I don't think you fully understand the way things work. Not a knock, it takes some time to figure things out. Took me a while. Enigma message 01:54, 23 May 2008 (UTC)
Per discussion with other users, I closed your RfA prematurely. Sorry. Feel free to ask me any questions you may have. Enigma message 02:10, 23 May 2008 (UTC)
The RfA wasn't the reason for your rollback being taken away, persay. That may be how Metros noticed it, but the reason it was confiscated, like it was with RyRy, was because of inappropriate usage and lack of a full understanding of when it is to be used. I'm sorry about what happened, but going forward with an RfA at this time wasn't the greatest decision. Enigma message 02:16, 23 May 2008 (UTC)

Would you like to explain signing the IP's note as yourself? Are you the IP address or not? Metros (talk) 02:09, 23 May 2008 (UTC)

Sockpuppetry case

You have been accused of sockpuppetry. Please refer to Wikipedia:Suspected sock puppets/Xp54321 (2nd) for evidence. Please make sure you make yourself familiar with notes for the suspect before editing the evidence page. Metros (talk) 02:43, 23 May 2008 (UTC)

Regarding your sockpuppetry case, I want to assume good faith as much as possible, but the evidence is stacked against you. Just thought I'd jump in and let you know that if this really is a case of sockpuppetry or meatpuppetry, it's much better to confess and take the slap on the wrist than it will be to take an indef block if a checkuser comes up against you. You may be interested to know that of a recent similar case. Bluegoblin7 used a sockpuppet (Shanner191) to support his RFA, was accused exactly the way you are being accused, owned up to it, and wasn't even blocked. Obviously, if you weren't involved in any sockpuppeting or meatpuppeting, maintain your innocence. Useight (talk) 03:26, 23 May 2008 (UTC)
I also want to add that since you maintain that you weren't involved with the new account, I'm going to assume good faith and believe you. Useight (talk) 04:31, 23 May 2008 (UTC)
I second that. Wisdom89 (T / C) 04:36, 23 May 2008 (UTC)
I defend you tooth and nail until i see proof otherwise. Realist2 (Come Speak To Me) 04:37, 23 May 2008 (UTC)
I also want to apologize if any of my comments were out of line during your sockpuppetry case. You've had pretty much the worst day possible on Wikipedia with a failed RFA, rollback removed, and then had a sockpuppet case. I also had a bad day, it was raining, my car wouldn't start, and I didn't do so well on a test. Please don't leave Wikipedia over this incident as your contributions are valuable and appreciated. I hope there is no bad blood between us and hope that you'll feel like you can come to my talk page any time with questions, comments, or concern. Your friend, Useight (talk) 05:16, 23 May 2008 (UTC)
It hasnt been resolved yet, hopefully we can speed this all up. --Realist2 (Come Speak To Me) 22:01, 23 May 2008 (UTC)

CRAP

Man, some real rubbish has happened to you today, a failed RFA, loss of rollback and a sock puppet case. Im sorry, i hope it wont put you off wikipedia. Im hope your found innocent and continue editing. Realist2 (Come Speak To Me) 03:17, 23 May 2008 (UTC)

Glad you're back

I'm glad to see you're back (I was right about school being why you weren't editing) and in good spirits (aside from losing rollback, but I'm sure you'll be able to get that back in time). To answer your "has everything been resolved?" question, it looks like everyone is assuming good faith so there shouldn't be any trouble, I hope. Everything is pretty much back to normal, nothing to worry about. If you read a few sections up, you'll see some apologies up there and I want you to know that my talk page is always open if you have any questions or run into any problems. The warning you gave me was incorect as the revert I performed on Andrea_Bargnani was correct and constituted vandalism. F.Y.R. Macedonia in the Eurovision

Have you intentionally reverted my edit here? The country is participating in this song contest as the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (e.g. see EBU's listing here), abbreviated by the official website as F.Y.R. Macedonia ( see here). My understanding is that according to WP:MOSMAC there is a general consensus to keep these articles under the official appellations or abbreviations as in F.Y.R. Macedonia in the Eurovision Song Contest, F.Y.R. Macedonia in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest and other. Was it by mistake? If so, I would appreciate if you could revert yourself. Starfish and Coffee

You've now tagged Starfish and Coffee for user-request speedy deletion on three separate occasions. Why? There is nothing there that shows the user wants it deleted, which is why the user keeps taking the tag off the article whenever you add it. Please stop, Metros (talk) 15:16, 24 May 2008 (UTC)

Glad you "got it" but can you please explain why you believe there needs to be deletion and why you've warned this user for vandalism? Metros (talk) 15:18, 24 May 2008 (UTC)
I'll let him speak for himself, but I noticed this too, and I think Xp simply mistook the sizable pruning of information by the creator for a page blanking, as they only left the info box. Wisdom89 (T / C) 15:21, 24 May 2008 (UTC)
That would be understandable once. But to add it back again, twice, after the creator of the article took the tag off is inappropriate. Then to warn the user for vandalism is another issue. If he actually looked at the edits rather than blindly reverting, he would have noticed it. Metros (talk) 15:24, 24 May 2008 (UTC)
I don't see a warning on the user's talkpage except for two bot warnings.Xp54321 (Vandals Beware!!!,Contribs) 15:26, 24 May 2008 (UTC)
Yeah, because I already reverted it because it's unnecessary. Here's the diff of your edit to warn the user. A level 3 warning after no previous warnings for vandalism. There is no need to escalate to level 3 right away unless it's blatant, persistent vandalism. Metros (talk) 15:27, 24 May 2008 (UTC)
Understood, committed to memory.Though huggle did it and I think because of the two bot warnings it escalated to level 3.Were the bot warnings proper?Xp54321 (Vandals Beware!!!,Contribs) 15:32, 24 May 2008 (UTC)
Just so you know, a level 1 warning would have been inappropriate as well. Wisdom89 (T / C) 15:33, 24 May 2008 (UTC)
The bot warnings are unrelated to vandalism. They're about the external links being added. Also, note what the Huggle page says: "Responsibility for edits rests with the owner of the account with which they are made. "Use of an automated tool" is not an excuse." So you're responsible for that; don't blame the tool. Metros (talk) 15:37, 24 May 2008 (UTC)

Recent reverts to American Idol (season 7)

Xp, your huggle reverts there weren't helfpul. You for some reason twice reverted to an incorrect version of the page. I see you are flying through with your huggle edits, please make sure the revert is correct before making one. Gwynand | TalkContribs 16:08, 24 May 2008 (UTC)

Chiropractic revert

Can you explain the reason for this revert? I noticed the user did add a second heading, but other than that, the edit looks pretty valid. What do you find inappropriate about it? Metros (talk) 16:12, 24 May 2008 (UTC)

The ip edits were very inappropriate. Here is another inappropriate edit which broke a ref citation. QuackGuru 16:19, 24 May 2008 (UTC)

Xp54321 can you explain why it was inappropriate? Why did you revert that? Metros (talk) 16:23, 24 May 2008 (UTC)

The ip edits were all inappropriate. For example, the POV phrase "Critics suggest" was added. The ref citation 17 is still borken. QuackGuru 16:33, 24 May 2008 (UTC)

I do not want to get into a revert war with an IP. I see a lot of strange editing by the IP. Some text is missing and things have been moved around. I wonder if this is a new editor or an editor forgot to log in. QuackGuru 16:44, 24 May 2008 (UTC)

You just archived your talk page without even addressing my questions about your incorrect reverts to American Idol (season 7). Furthermore, it's really not helpful to the community if you are removing this stuff quickly so others don't see it. (e/c)I'm sorry, I'm not coming here with the purpose of aggravating you. If you are making multiple incorrect automated reverts, the issue would definitely need to be brought to the user's talk page, don't you agree. I think a lot of your current problems would go away if you stopped using Huggle for a little while. It's best to get used to reverting using plain, old-fashioned undos, with a manual edit summary showing the specific reason you reverted. Also, you continue not to indent your replies, which makes it very difficult to follow a conversation. You even say to do so in your instructions above. Gwynand | TalkContribs 16:59, 24 May 2008 (UTC)

I dont blame you, try to stay positive though, come and help with some of my articles for a bit. ;-) --Realist2 (Come Speak To Me) 16:56, 24 May 2008 (UTC)

I'm done with huggle it aggravated me.Sorry.I'm going to help R2 with some articles now.Xp54321 (Vandals Beware!!!,Contribs) 17:01, 24 May 2008 (UTC)

Tag along with me ;-)

Yeah stop with all that and spend some time with me, im frankly shocked at the way you have been treated in recent days, its nothing short of bullying. Quit the huggle crap for now, spend some time with me. Realist2 (Come Speak To Me) 17:04, 24 May 2008 (UTC)

So, anyway, like i was saying, well music isnt your thing, thats ok, im starting a new wikiproject soon, you might wanna help me set that up? Im quite nervous about it myself lol. Are there any topics you find you know a lot about? I could help teach you how to source information if you cant already ;-) --Realist2 (Come Speak To Me) 17:15, 24 May 2008 (UTC)

Hmm try something military related or technology or what's the new wikiproject? I'll help any way I can.Xp54321 (Vandals Beware!!!,Contribs) 17:18, 24 May 2008 (UTC)

Military, that sounds great, well its the janet jackson wikiproject, but you dont need to know anything about her, just help set it up in a few weeks. --Realist2 (Come Speak To Me) 17:20, 24 May 2008 (UTC)

Okey-dokey.I have plenty of military-related books at home(mostly aircraft,I love planes). How do I help set up?Xp54321 (Vandals Beware!!!,Contribs) 17:22, 24 May 2008 (UTC)
First im trying to get the support, unless enough editers want to take part it cant work, i think we'll be ok though. Ill get back to you on that. If you have lots of book thats great!! I should teach you how to source you books in articles? Realist2 (Come Speak To Me) 17:25, 24 May 2008 (UTC)
All right lets get started!<picking up books>:)Xp54321 (Vandals Beware!!!,Contribs) 17:29, 24 May 2008 (UTC)
Erm, can I help? I would be glad to copyedit some article your planning to improve.--RyRy5 (talk copy-edit) 17:31, 24 May 2008 (UTC)
Oh yes please the more the merrier!Or the more improvement.:)!!Xp54321 (Vandals Beware!!!,Contribs) 17:33, 24 May 2008 (UTC)
What articles are you planning to improve?--RyRy5 (talk copy-edit) 17:34, 24 May 2008 (UTC)
Okay,2 books on desert storm,1 on tanks,2 encyclopedias of aircraft,1 schematics of aircraft book, tom clancy's battle ready, and teeth of the tiger.Theres more but it'll take time to find them.Which articles specifically I dont know yet.Xp54321 (Vandals Beware!!!,Contribs) 17:37, 24 May 2008 (UTC)

Ok, your best bet is to read an article and see if it matches some of the stuff in your books, if not bring it up on the talk page, suggest a change be made according to whats in your book and see what feedback you get back. I wouldnt jump into setting up an article from scratch, its best to get a hang of the basics first. Oh and thanx for the barnstar, i never noticed you add it cheers. ;-) Realist2 (Come Speak To Me) 17:43, 24 May 2008 (UTC)

OK, your doing good, this might be a nice article for you to start with, you need to source what you add remember, if you give me all the details of the book i can set you up a template. Things like title, auther, piblisher, ISBN etc. Realist2 (Come Speak To Me) 18:01, 24 May 2008 (UTC)

OK, and what year did it come out/published. It should say at the beginning or end. Realist2 (Come Speak To Me) 18:16, 24 May 2008 (UTC)

Ok, let me set something up a moment.

I already added th epublished date. It's in the lead/beginning.--RyRy5 (talk copy-edit) 18:24, 24 May 2008 (UTC)
OK, pick one of the things you added to the article. What was it and what is the page number from the book. Realist2 (Come Speak To Me) 18:28, 24 May 2008 (UTC)

OK, take a look, do you think you can source in that manner now that ive set up the shell. Realist2 (Come Speak To Me) 18:37, 24 May 2008 (UTC)

Just copy and paste that little think with the different page numbers, its easy. Bild it up into a nice article, read over it to correct spelling and grammer etc. --Realist2 (Come Speak To Me) 18:55, 24 May 2008 (UTC)

GA, definately but speak to us first before you nominate it, FA is really really really hard, i dont have one and i wrote most of the Michael Jackson article. Realist2 (Come Speak To Me) 19:00, 24 May 2008 (UTC)

A little style note for you, the source should come after the full stop ok, your doing great though. ;-) Realist2 (Come Speak To Me) 19:39, 24 May 2008 (UTC)

So what are you gonna do now, just article building and forget vandalism for now? Realist2 (Come Speak To Me) 20:07, 24 May 2008 (UTC)

Article building is much more rewarding. Realist2 (Come Speak To Me) 20:14, 24 May 2008 (UTC)

Always check the notes at the bottom seen here. They should all look idential bar the page numbers obviouly. Notice how some have a small - while another has a slightly longer line. They should all be long lines. Realist2 (Come Speak To Me) 20:33, 24 May 2008 (UTC)

Copy and paste the big line into your sources. Realist2 (Come Speak To Me) 20:50, 24 May 2008 (UTC)

Cool, always check it to make sure its neat and tidy. Realist2 (Come Speak To Me) 21:02, 24 May 2008 (UTC)

When you finish the plot, we can move onto other aspects. Realist2 (Come Speak To Me) 21:13, 24 May 2008 (UTC)

That's gonna take a little time. I forgot about most of the plot as it's been months since I read it. I can read it probably over this weekend.(1 &1/2 days if I read like a lot) but I really don't feel like it. What are the other aspects?Xp54321 (Vandals Beware!!!,Contribs) 21:16, 24 May 2008 (UTC)

Yeah take it slowly, articles take a while. We could talk about the critical and commercial reaction on the book. Did it sell well, was it a good book sorta thing. Realist2 (Come Speak To Me) 21:22, 24 May 2008 (UTC)

Sure, we have to research it on the internet and use reliable websites as sources. Still thats a while off, the story is the main part. Realist2 (Come Speak To Me) 21:27, 24 May 2008 (UTC)

I added some information that was Correct in the MMORPG section and you deleted it. It's some research I did and thought that you would benefit from it, but apparently you didn't think so. Pathetic(annoying) vandal.I'm going to archive this for laughs.:)Xp54321 (Vandals Beware!!!,Contribs) 21:01, 24 May 2008 (UTC)

Yes, it's a vandal, but that does not allow you to attack the user anyway. Calling other users "pathetic" and "annoying" are attacks, whether or not they're vandals. Taunting vandals is not a proper way to deal with vandalism. Metros (talk) 21:08, 24 May 2008 (UTC)
Calm down. I'm not taunting the vandal daring him to vandalize again. That is a note to myaself so in the future I don't think it was another "mistake". Though with the message the vandal left below, that's doubtful.:)Xp54321 (Vandals Beware!!!,Contribs) 21:10, 24 May 2008 (UTC)
You are, basically. What you're doing is giving this user incentive to vandalize again. He's getting attention which is what vandals generally want. Plus, by attacking like you are, you're probably pissing the user off into wanting to get back at you. Metros (talk) 21:16, 24 May 2008 (UTC)
I have to agree, they thrive on it, dont give them the attention they want. Realist2 (Come Speak To Me) 21:18, 24 May 2008 (UTC)
True and I now agree. Like bad boys at school who purposely get in trouble to be popular or in this case,a "badge"(the warnings) that they've vandalized wikipedia enough to be warned.Xp54321 (Vandals Beware!!!,Contribs) 21:21, 24 May 2008 (UTC)

is it ok if i use this on my page and can you help me make it work ? I've seen a lot of things like this as userboxes etc Machete97 (talk) 19:33, 25 May 2008 (UTC)

It is ok, but the status bots never seem to work. Just do it manually. default from buttonred to buttongreen and offline to online.Leave everything else the same.DO the opposite for when you're going to log off thus change to red and offline.Xp54321 (Vandals Beware!!!,Contribs) 19:36, 25 May 2008 (UTC)

I just noticed that global account thing myself today, maybe it was activated for everyone recently then, at the moment i dont know how that works sorry. As for that reference thing, i dont know how that works either, i do it manually by filling in the details on templates, like i showed you. Speak to Kodster about it, he uses it. Sorry, im no use to you on these things lol. Realist2 (Come Speak To Me) 23:43, 27 May 2008 (UTC)

If you activated it accidently and reported it you will be fine, stop using it though ok. --Realist2 (Come Speak To Me) 00:52, 28 May 2008 (UTC)

Huggle usage after it was taken away

I've blocked you for 15 minutes while we sort this out. What's probably happened is that it wasn't cleared out of your system after I disabled it. What you need to do is clear your cache on your computer. To do this follow the directions on this page: Wikipedia:Bypass_your_cache. Let us know when you've done that and we'll see if that clears it up, Metros (talk) 00:55, 28 May 2008 (UTC)

Metros will I be blocked for accessing huggle?I don't mean my current block. Also how'd you find out so fast? Are you watching iridescent's talkpage because I told him/her.Xp54321 (Vandals Beware!!!,Contribs) 01:00, 28 May 2008 (UTC)

There will be no additional block, just disappointment out of a lot of people that you would continue to use it even when you knew you weren't supposed to. You knew you shouldn't use it, and yet you did anyway. And yes, I know because I saw it on Iridescent's talk page. Metros (talk) 01:02, 28 May 2008 (UTC)
I told Iridescent, you will be released soon if not already, make sure this gets scrubbed off your block log as it wasnt your fault and will count against you later. --Realist2 (Come Speak To Me) 01:05, 28 May 2008 (UTC)
Realist, as I say on my talk page - and Metros's - please stop giving wrong advice. There is no such thing as "scrubbing it off your block log".iridescent 01:11, 28 May 2008 (UTC)
Actually a developer can do it, or so another admin told me. --Realist2 (Come Speak To Me) 01:14, 28 May 2008 (UTC)
In a very extreme case a developer can. I can't even fathom such a case that they would expunge a block record. This is definitely not one of those cases. Metros (talk) 01:16, 28 May 2008 (UTC)

I would have just rved some vandalism on an article but you blocked me.:)Sorry I am still able to access huggle. Please don't block me. I did bypass the cache with no effect.Note I've done this multiple times before but then for changes in my preferences. Also no effect.Xp54321 (Vandals Beware!!!,Contribs) 01:04, 28 May 2008 (UTC)

Well, then if any one sees you use Huggle again, even if you have the technical capability to do so, you will be blocked. Metros (talk) 01:13, 28 May 2008 (UTC)

On the Dodge Challenger page I left the editing comments "In the next few days I plan to be completely rebuilding this page with new information from more indepth sites that have more details than this page currently provides." I request this because as a former Daimler Chrysler employee during the Challenger era I have much more info than is on here and I always work better with a clean slate so I ask for a week to rebuild the page my way if you do not like what I do you can revert no harm done. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Mrman115115 (talkcontribs) 00:56, 28 May 2008 (UTC)

Edit count barnstar

I have taken away the edit count barnstar off your user page. It is extremely disruptive and Realist2 is way out of line for awarding it to you. Do not add it back, Metros (talk) 01:26, 28 May 2008 (UTC)

Metros, as always, you have my respect. However, Realist dispensed said award in good faith. I find it patently out of place and downright rude to remove it. Wisdom89 (T / C) 01:27, 28 May 2008 (UTC)
Metros an admin, its his call, sorry Xp, buddy. --Realist2 (Come Speak To Me) 01:30, 28 May 2008 (UTC)
And, just a side note here - administrators aren't privileged users. Wisdom89 (T / C) 01:33, 28 May 2008 (UTC)
Wisdom89, see this, this, and this. He did not give it in good faith, but, rather, to disrupt and prove a point. Metros (talk) 01:30, 28 May 2008 (UTC)
Ahhhh, illuminating. I did not know that. I thought it was genuine. Ok, that's completely out of line. I apologize Metros. Wisdom89 (T / C) 01:31, 28 May 2008 (UTC)
The edit count discussion here also provides the background for it. Metros (talk) 01:33, 28 May 2008 (UTC)
Its to prove the point that this edit is valued, is liked, is needed, is wanted. None of which has come from you. All i have shown Xp is pure wikilove, im the only one who does it too. Realist2 (Come Speak To Me) 01:34, 28 May 2008 (UTC)
Meanwhile lets document Metros actions against Xp, he set up a sock case against Xp, he helped removed rollback and huggle for Xp and now hes removed a barnstar for Xp. Realist2 (Come Speak To Me) 01:37, 28 May 2008 (UTC)
But you basically admitted that it was per WP:POINT, which is intentionally disruptive. Wisdom89 (T / C) 01:39, 28 May 2008 (UTC)
My point was to show that I, if no-one else , i actually care for and like this editer. Realist2 (Come Speak To Me) 01:41, 28 May 2008 (UTC)
Im done, if metro scares Xp off wikipedia im leaving too, im done. Realist2 (Come Speak To Me) 01:43, 28 May 2008 (UTC)
Realist, as I said to you on my talkpage, encouraging a good faith user to do things that will only count against him is not "Wikilove", it's being horribly unfair to a relatively new user who doesn't 100% understand how things work yet. Whatever you may think, the editcounts, the RFA, the block, the warnings, the sockpuppetry case will all stay with him forever — even Jimbo's block log doesn't get wiped. If you want to show some love, encourage him to make a few good edits rather than a lot of minor ones. This conversation was with a different user, but pretty much everything I say in it applies to him — and to you, for that matter — as well.iridescent 01:43, 28 May 2008 (UTC)

If you havent already noticed ive already got him started on an article on a book he ownes. I taught him to source the other day, he can source books and everything so dont say im a negative influence on him outright. The Teeth of the Tiger. If this witch hunt continues im quiting because its wrong. Realist2 (Come Speak To Me) 01:47, 28 May 2008 (UTC)

My response to this mess

All right what on earth happened here?!!!;)I report a huggle bug, go to sleep,go to school, come home and find a mess(plus a block) on my talkpage!:)From what I can tell there is now a ridiculously huge mess for me and realist2. However after a very careful review of policy and a few essays,I do find R2 and I have made a few mistakes.(do not start maiking fun of few!)R2 has given bad advice. However I'm getting of all this "hes new crap".I instantly spotted the bad advice for bad advice. However the advice was given in good faith. Also R2 has every right to leave.Me, I have a bad memory.:)Iridescent, I find has done nothing wrong at all and was very considerate and agf.Metros not so much agf.but his actions are reasonable. The sock case, only one guy voted support, but lol,he didnt even remember my name. Thus the reason was correct. However I think metros should have gotten an uninvolved admin for that and a few other things.Still R2's accusations of bullying hold some water.Strange how in a week the same admin removed rollback, opened a sock case, removed huggle and eventually blocked me.At some point another admin should have gotten involved.(I dont mean iridescent)The block was properly explained and I see no reason for oversight, besides it was short. However I do find it unnecessary as no abuse occurred during that brief period and I reported a serious bug which deserves at least a thank you.A block's my thank you?!.It justs give me a bad record. The barnstar(removal) also reasonable after review of diffs about point.Still I think there was overzealous something(bad memory,no really, what happened?) as R2 went ballistic.;) However the situation is complicated.I'd like a sitrep as to what happened in the 36 hours. Please provide diffs, evidence, comments, etc.I deal with these sort of situations like court cases.

My Conclusions(feel free to persuade otherwise,no attacks or threats, ill ignore them:

  • User metros did act reasonably though I doubt his actions would make him the most popular kid on the block
  • User iridescent acted in an exemplary manner,he was not actively involved and was he was helpful on that huggle
  • The block though within reason, was not necessary
  • User Realist2 acted in good faith but has made mistakes
  • User Realist2 should not leave
  • Sock case within reason, but ludicrous
  • Metros too actively involved in this mess, next time un-involved admin
  • block strongest evidence of borderline between bullying/harassment and legit admin actions
  • all involved users should apologize where necessary
  • if bullying or harassment or bugging occurred is a matter of opinion, in my opinion, close to it,very close
  • please excuse typos, bad grammar, in a rush
"I report a huggle bug, go to sleep,go to school, come home and find a mess(plus a block) on my talkpage!:)" You reported the bug at 00:37, you were blocked at 00:53. Sixteen minutes is a pretty quick sleep and school period... Metros (talk) 03:38, 29 May 2008 (UTC)
And it took you like 8 minutes to reply to this message, still hawling him then i see. Realist2 (Come Speak To Me) 03:43, 29 May 2008 (UTC)
I don't want to get involved in anything at the moment, I'm about to go play Super Smash Bros Brawl, but I went through and looked at a fair number of Xp54321's reverts via Huggle in the 10 minutes before his block and didn't find anything that looked like misuse of Huggle. However, I've been aloof to this whole matter and am not aware of all the information/angles in the situation. Useight (talk) 04:00, 29 May 2008 (UTC)
Useight, the Huggle abuse occurred several days ago, which is what resulted in his loss of access. For whatever reason, it was still functional two days later. While there was no apparent mistakes in its use yesterday, the track record showed his misuse of it in the past. Metros (talk) 04:04, 29 May 2008 (UTC)
It had been awhile since someone got my name wrong, it was getting about that time again. Useight (talk) 05:05, 29 May 2008 (UTC)
Haha, whoops! It was a little late when I typed that :) Metros (talk) 14:43, 29 May 2008 (UTC)
And even though he reported it instantly you blocked him. Im going to suggest that future matters relating to Xp54321 are NOT handled by Metros, he isnt acting impartially on matters relating to Xp. It actually kills me to say that, AGF is my strong point. Realist2 (Come Speak To Me) 04:05, 29 May 2008 (UTC)
Because despite his knowing he wasn't allowed to use it, he was using it. Blocks are preventative, to prevent damage to Wikipedia. Because of his past errors (all 2-3 days ago in the past) with Huggle, there was a reasonable belief that he could repeat these mistakes. The block was to prevent that and to sort out just what precisely was occurring. Metros (talk) 04:09, 29 May 2008 (UTC)
As for impartiality, what have I done that other administrators would have have done? Yes, Iridescent said he wouldn't have blocked when I did, but you'll also see that he agreed with the rationale for why I did. Everything I've done is reasonable and in line with Wikipedia policies and standards. There is no bias here. Metros (talk) 04:15, 29 May 2008 (UTC)
I think its in the best interest considering the sock case, rollback, huggle, the "questionable" block, complaints about edit counting and barnstar removal that Metros stands back. Other admins can easily handle the situation impartially. It appears as though you have an agenda - regardless of wether or not you actually do. Realist2 (Come Speak To Me) 04:05, 29 May 2008 (UTC)
Reported it instantly? 11 minutes and 20 edits isn't exactly instant, but OK. Continuing to use it for another 15 minutes and 40 edits until being blocked seemed to indicate that he wasn't looking to stop to figure out why a tool that he knew wasn't supposed to be accessible was working. I might have gone with a "stop right now while we straighten this out or you will be blocked," but a 15 minute block seems to be fair under the circumstances. --OnoremDil 04:23, 29 May 2008 (UTC)
If it had come from any other admin it wouldnt have raised as many eyebrows, but because of the history between these to edits, frankly it smelt off. Context is half the problem here, every further action Metro takes against Xp is just going to look off.Realist2 (Come Speak To Me) 04:29, 29 May 2008 (UTC)

The fact Metros feels the need to continue here speaks volume. The Admin community should be seen to be neutral, myself and Xp have voiced concerns about neutrality and have asked that other admins be involved in future. Metros determination to remain here when its unnessary doesnt look good at all. Realist2 (Come Speak To Me) 04:38, 29 May 2008 (UTC)

Ok, I have Xp54321 on my watchlist (can't remember why) but lets just say that I've been following this mess for days but decided to not get involved. However, Realist...you really need to back down now, Metros' actions may have appeared harsh from your perspective, but they were all just. If you feel XP is being harassed or whatever, take it up with the WP:ANI. I can't see them siding with you but at least you'll have another opinion on the matter. You can't keep biting here, it's just going to go on and on until it escalates to a block. I know you've adopted Xp therefore you probably feel inclined to protect him or whatever, but he really needs to accept his mistakes and start again. Please, just drop it and move on. Metros isn't targeting or bullying Xp, he's just trying to make Wikipedia a better place. If that means banning someone for misuse of tools, so be it. Don't be a dick and instead, cool down and try to teach your adoptee how to recover from his mistakes. You're an experienced user, set a good example. Your edits are disruptive and are in effect, making this whole situation worse. Xp, please don't take any offence by this message and I'm sorry for jumping in here. ——Ryan | tc 10:21, 29 May 2008 (UTC)
Im not going to bother commenting further, dont worry, Metros will continue to bug this editer over every minor detail, will read through his every edit looking for things to complain about, oh well. At least i wasnt afraid to speak up, as for a block, i honestly wouldnt care frankly. If you think its worth blocking me for a week then youve just gone and lost 700 constructive edits to your project. Additionally I probably wouldnt return so you would have lost thousands of future good edits. You cant get sense around here when all editers care about is what will look good on a their future RfA. Realist2 (Come Speak To Me) 15:55, 29 May 2008 (UTC)
I feel like archiving this page again.Should I? I'd say this discussion is over. And like R2 above, block me, see what good it does. The answer is none.Xp54321 (Vandals Beware!!!,Contribs) 22:18, 30 May 2008 (UTC)

uh do I archive or not?I agree with your response but I don't think you answered my question.Xp54321 (Vandals Beware!!!,Contribs) 23:30, 30 May 2008 (UTC)

I know he stated that as an account to use on public computers here. Useight (talk) 01:36, 6 June 2008 (UTC)

Adoption

OK, basically, adoption works like this: You ask questions, I give answers :P
If you want, I can also give you some hypothetical scenarios to test your knowledge. To be honest, I've never really done this formally before, and I don't know how involved you want to get. If it is easier for you, we can just keep the conversation on this page, so that you know immediately if I have answered your question. Or, I can create a subpage for all our stuff and you can watchlist it to see if I've answered your question. Just lemme know what you think. J.delanoygabsadds 02:37, 6 June 2008 (UTC)

OK, add User:Xp54321/adoption to your watchlist. I'll look through your contribs and come up with some questions to ask. If you have any to ask me, feel free. Also, you don't have to post on my talk page when you answer questions/ask questions on this page or the /adoption one. I've watchlisted both, so I will see when you add to either of them. new pages

SLOW DOWN!!!! You are not required to review every new page and mark it as patrolled! Try doing some vandal-fighting on Special:Recentchanges instead. I'm writing something else to you now, but you need to calm down, take a deep breath, and exhale slowly. Just take it easy, you don't have to do everything yourself. It will be fine. You can tell Realist2. You change it the same way you changed it the fist time though, in your preferences. - Rjd0060 (talk) 03:35, 7 June 2008 (UTC)

Be careful with your A1 CSD criteria. Some of your tagging has been suggesting lack of context when the subject was easily identifiable. Wisdom89 (T / C) 03:38, 7 June 2008 (UTC)

Got it I'm off for the night anyways.J just gave me that warning and more.Xp54321 (Vandals Beware!!!,Contribs) 03:39, 7 June 2008 (UTC)
My advice would be to completely remove the custom signature from your preferences, and just use the default one. Then, as you learn more about Wiki markup, you can design your own. Also, you don't have to get off, just slow down. I really think you should try to write some. That takes a little more effort, but it is, IMO, far more rewarding. Also, do you know how to vandal-patrol with Recentchanges? That is something else you can do that would be easier to do than patrolling new pages. J.delanoygabsadds 03:44, 7 June 2008 (UTC)
To remove your custom signature, just go to your preferences page and uncheck the box labeled "Raw Signature". Then delete everything from the text box labeled "Signature", and click on the Save button. J.delanoygabsadds 03:59, 7 June 2008 (UTC)

where to start...

Ok.

  • What in the world could I have possibly taught you? By asking you questions, I asked myself the same ones, and I had never thought about them before.
  • How did I help you understand yourself? Pretty much the same thing as above.
  • What about the rest of the basics? There isn't much. Read some of the links in WP:INTRO. Other than that, I would suggest trying to write some articles and/or participate in discussion about pages. You are trying to move way to fast. I know you are incredibly enthusiastic, but you need to moderate yourself. Fighting vandalism all the time is not a good thing. Find some articles about something you enjoy, and see if you can improve them. (but remember to obey WP:CITE)
  • Please define iffy. Stuff like these.
    • [2] By definition, all settlements are notable, so you can't tag them for speedy deletion no matter how short they are.
    • Almost all of your db-nocontext tags are very disturbing. Db-nocontext should be used only when there is no feasible way to identify the subject in a meaningful way. An example of a page which could be properly tagged as db-nocontext would be a page named "Cody Johnson" that has the content "Cody is a dog". You should re-read WP:CSD slowly and really think hard about what it means. And remember it is better to not a page at all than to tag a page incorrectly. My suggestion is, if you have any question at all, just move on and ignore the page.
  • I do believe the essay editcountis does say there is no "applause" for reaching a certain number of edits. Yeah, I know. But sometimes it's hard for me to remember that.
  • For question number 5 I quoted "What Wikipedia Is NOT....". How was that answer soooo "awesome"? Well, I never connected those two pages like that before. I guess it just struck me. Sorry.
  • Okay if I know the basics, teach the advanced stuff.(all that fancy code, creating templates, creating userpage designs, you might want to get other tutors,E and R5 know about userpages) WHOA!!! Slow down, man! I said you understand most of the basic ideas behind Wikipedia, but now you need you need to gain experience with the actual implementing of these ideas. Unfortunately, the only practical way to gain experience here is through trying things. I will do my best to guide you, but you will most likely make many, many mistakes as you forge ahead. One thing you need to do is slow down, and don't go into everything full steam ahead throwing caution to the wind.

My advice to you is, SLOW DOWN, man!!! You are not required to learn everything overnight, just take it slow and try to branch out. You should definitely try to write some. Find something you are interested in and see if you can fix and/or improve the articles. You should read WP:DEADLINE and some of the pages in that page's see also section.

Also, I appreciate you giving me all those barnstars, and I really don't want to say this, but doing that is, well, kind of strange. Barnstar should be given when you think an editor has made a particularly good contribution on a specific area. You should probably not give more than one barnstar to the same person in a short interval. You may also want to read WP:BSI, paying particular attention to the part about Barnstaritis B.

J.delanoygabsadds 03:36, 7 June 2008 (UTC)

Patrol

Although it's true that we really really need people to help out on newpage patrol, you really don't need to patrol the stuff by people who are whitelisted. What would be more helpful would be patrolling the far end of the queue; articles only stay in the unpatrolled queue for 720 hours, and sometimes I'm the only person working the far end. DS (talk) 03:44, 7 June 2008 (UTC)

Please read this: Your improper use 'Speedy Delete' tags

Hello, I want to add a bit more about your use of 'Speedy Delete' tags, e.g. (db-bio, Db-a1 (context) etc. This has got to stop. Please hold off putting them on articles that have literally just been written, especially in subject areas with which you are unfamiliar.

Observe your record today and these are just some of the articles you tagged. You were tagging one article every minute, and most of them within 1 minute of their creation:

Atlanta Rowing Club, Slow Burn (Atreyu song) , Alien invasion (game), Mal de pelea, Nottoway, Va , Vladimir Matovic, Gariné Torossian, Humberto Bonfante O'Byrne. Most of these have been rescued from your thoughtless tagging by other editors.

Who knows how many of the others that you've tagged and have already been deleted could have been saved!

Slapping on a 'speedy delete' as soon as the first version of the article is published, is not helpful, can be very discouraging to new editors, and means that Wikipedia loses a potentially useful article, especially if an admin is not paying attention when they go through the day's collection of 'speedy deletes' (it happens, trust me.)

Many new articles look very unpromising at first, take a lot of work to get right, need to have references found, etc. They need time, and they need the collaboration of more than one editor. For example, take a look at Aureliano in Palmira now and compare it to this rather dire beginning [3] a month earlier. Look at Folke Jonsson now and compare it to its initial version [4] only four days earlier.

Wikipedia will not self-destruct if an article of doubtful notability stays up for a few days. It's much better to tag a new article like that with notability, but only if you have serious doubts about its notability judged by a careful reading of the article and your own attempts to find evidence of notability. Return a week later and if nothing has happened, consider adding Prod instead.

I'm asking for cooperation in this. You are a very inexperienced editor and should completely stop tagging articles for 'Speedy Delete' until you are thoroughly familiar with Wikipedia's policies, and until you are willing to slow down and take a thoughtful approach to tagging, i. e. put in some real work. It's not a contest or a game. What you are doing can have serious consequences both for new editors writing articles and for Wikipedia in general.

In fact, I would suggest you stay completely away from patrolling new articles. Put the effort into creating and referencing an article yourself so you'll understand the issues involved, instead of thoughtlessly destroying the potentially valuable work of others. Although you have quite the "résumé" so far, I would not feel very comfortable giving you rollback rights. I would be concerned because you were recently withdrawn of the right because of misuse. If you ask me again in about a month or so, I would be more than willing to give you rollback. If you feel I am being judgmental, however, feel free to ask another admin or make another request at WP:RFR. Thanks, –LAX 22:19, 7 June 2008 (UTC)

Just wanted to let you know

Iridescent changed your monobook some. He made it so that, when you use Twinkle, it always opens up the person's talk page when you revert any edits. He also made it so that when you revert an edit, tag a page for speedy deletion, or warn someone, it adds any of the pages you edited to your watchlist, so that you will know if someone changes the page back because you made a mistake. Please do not change this. However, he also (maybe unintentionally?) made it so that your edits' summaries will end with "using TW" rather than just "(TW)". If you would rather have the "advertisement" be the second one (which is what it was before now), I can tell you how to change it or I can ask Iridescent or another admin to do it for you, if you don't think you understand what I tell you, if you choose to do that. Hope this helps explain any "weird" things you see happening, and also why your watchlist is growing so fast. J.delanoygabsadds 00:18, 8 June 2008 (UTC)

Your Rollback Request to Me

You requested rollback from Lax and about one minute later you requested it from me (before LAX had responded). I've read LAX's comments above, reviewed some recent contributions, reviewed the ANI thread mentioned above, and I'd have to agree with LAX, "not now", particularly since you have only recently had rollback revoked. I'd actually go a little further than LAX, I'd like to see you consult with your adopter on this issue and work towards understanding the policies and customs regarding reverting before looking for rollback again. Still, I am encouraged from everything that I read that you have the best interests of the project at heart and apparently just need some coaching for a while. Please feel free to ask again later if you can demonstrate that you have a better understanding of the policies involved. --Doug.(talk contribs) 05:15, 8 June 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for slowing down a bit and more advice

Hello Xp5432, even though you archived my message about your misuse of 'speedy delete' tags as soon as you came online yesterday, you seem to have taken some of it on board, and have tried to improve. Many thanks for that. But given that you are still making a few serious errors of judgement with these tags, please ...

  • do not tag articles for deletion as soon as they are created. It's too soon to see how they will shape up in the coming days, especially since you seem to have no significant experience yourself in contributing actual content to Wikipedia articles. You must give new articles a chance. Take a look at the current state of these articles which you had wrongly tagged for speedy deletion yesterday (and after you saw my message):
  • remember that many new editors are very inexperienced with wiki mark-up, the requirements for an encyclopedia article, and Wikipedia's policies. Some of them may be very young as well, just like you. Others may not have English as their first language. Don't jump to the conclusion that every badly formatted, confusingly written, or unreferenced article is some kind of vandalism or 'test'. You have to look beyond that, and see the article's potential for development. Better yet, try your hand at 'rescuing' the article yourself instead of tagging it. I notice that you are very keen on becoming an administrator some day. Experience in rescuing unpromising articles and turning them into useful, well-written, well-referenced ones will be invaluable for you. Otherwise, no one will trust you with the tools to delete or protect articles and block users.
  • read Wikipedia:Please do not bite the newcomers very carefully and reflect on it. Think how discouraging it can be for a new editor to have their first attempt at contributing to Wikipedia met with accusations of 'playing around' , 'nonsense' or vandalism and for the very first message on their talk page to be a speedy delete warning. To your credit, you had some doubts about Coyote Grange and struck-through the speedy delete warning on the editor's talk page. But it would have been nice to write a personal note about it and to welcome the editor to Wikipedia. New contributors are prospective members and Wikipedia's most valuable resource. Driving them away causes much more long term damage to Wikipedia than vandalism.

Thanks for reading. Best wishes, Voceditenore (talk) 12:01, 8 June 2008 (UTC)

"Adoptee" userbox

I've just noticed the Iridescent userbox on your userpage, and removed it - while I appreciate you didn't add it maliciously, please don't re-add it. "Adoption" has a very specific meaning on Wikipedia, and it's a role that I wouldn't be in a position to meet even if I thought it were appropriate. You'll notice that I have no adoptees on Wikipedia, and turn down requests for adoption and admin coaching. There are three main reasons for this (note - I've used Wikipedia technical terminogy in parts of this; if there's anything you're not sure of, J.delanoy will explain):

  1. The nature of my work means that I am often either away from a computer, not in a position to make personal use of one, or too busy to be working on Wikipedia, for months at a time, sometimes with no notice at all. As adopters are generally unofficially considered in some way responsible for their adoptees edits, I wouldn't feel comfortable being held responsible given that I won't always (or often) be in a position to review your talkpage, let alone your contributions;
  2. Although I do have Wikipedia sysop status, I tend to work in very specialised areas (merging of geographic stubs and deleted substubs into larger area articles; Commons image sourcing; contribution history analysis for potentially controversial RFA/RFB; validification and reconstruction of deleted content; semiautomated category splitting). I've no particular expertise in the revert-block-ignore and AIV side of Wikipedia, which is where you tend to work (in my entire time on Wikipedia, I've only ever blocked 249 users and 80% of my edits have been in the mainspace), so am not really in a position to be giving advice;
  3. As I've already issued you with (many) warnings, I'm not certain it's appropriate for me to be giving specific advice.

One thing I will give you though which might be useful to both you and J.delanoy, is this tool, which you both probably ought to bookmark. (It's not a "secret tool", but not widely publicised, as it puts a strain on the server every time it's used.) This will let both of you analyse which automated tools you're using and how your use of automated tools compares to manual edits; see which articles you're working on; and monitor which namespaces you're working in. (One that leaps out at me is that you have almost 12% of your edits in userspace - for comparison, mine is 1% and J.delanoy's is 2%.) – iridescent 19:41, 8 June 2008 (UTC)

I totally understand it and won't re-add it.But I do have a completely off-topic question. I just finished reading the "Wikipedia is failing" and the "wikipedia is suceeding" essays. With which do you agree?Xp54321 (Hello!,Contribs) 19:55, 8 June 2008 (UTC)
In addition I clicked random article 50 times and came up with :
I don't agree with either. WP:FAIL was written by a bunch of disgruntled Esperanza users (believe me, you don't want to know...) angry that the rest of the community wouldn't let them treat Wikipedia as their personal toy while WP:NOTFAIL is a solution to a problem that doesn't exist. If you want my personal opinion of the current issues affecting Wikipedia:
  1. There is no good reason for IP editing to be allowed. Yes, IPs are responsible for 50% of valid edits; however, they're responsible for 95% of vandalism. If an IP clicking "edit this page" were confronted by a "log on/choose username" box, it would only take 30 seconds of a legitimate editor's time, but would discourage the majority of vandals;
  2. Far too much weight is put on Jimmy Wales's opinions. Yes, he (co)founded Wikipedia but that was seven years ago, and there's nothing to indicate that he understands that issues affecting a site with 2000 users and 1000 pages aren't the same as those affecting a site with 48,254,440 users and 6,909,614 pages. He has not held any position for over a year, but far too many people treat whatever he has to say as holy writ;
  3. Wikipedia's internal processes are totally broken. The RFA process is a glorified popularity contest where perfectly good editors are turned down because they've offended someone in the past who then goes through their history looking for any reason to oppose; meanwhile, appallingly unsuitable candidates pass. Perfectly good articles are regularly deleted, whilst badly written stubs are kept because of who wrote them. And (if you'll forgive me being very bitey towards you) perfectly good edits are wrongly reported to AIV and incorrectly blocked;
  4. Wikipedia's core strengths aren't recognised in the quest to "be like Britannica". People think the number of stubs is a weakness, but it's actually our strength. The "popular" subjects are all covered elsewhere, but Wikipedia's great strength is that it covers subjects other sources don't mention. If I wanted to find out who John Lennon was, there are thousands of other sites that will give me a better version of his biography and without any "is gay lol" - if I want to find out who Beki Bondage was, on the other hand, no other site will give such complete coverage. However, these minority-interest articles are regularly deleted as cruft despite being what most users come here for;
  5. Our coverage of Living People is appalling and will one day get us into serious trouble. Since anyone can edit any article, it's possible to insert seriously libellous material into articles anonymously. In my opinion, there is no good reason for all biographies of living people not to be semi-protected as a minimum. However, because Jimmy Wales is against it, it doesn't happen.
I can't say strongly enough that all of the above is my personal opinion. If you ask a dozen people, you'll get a dozen different opinions and I don't claim to necessarily be right. – iridescent 20:55, 8 June 2008 (UTC)
Thanks for the response.I totally agree with you on number one.And you're right most vandals would go away. I also have to agree on number 3. Can you give me an example for number 2?And I completely agree with you on number 4.Problem is I think if you started semi-pro. every bio you'd be de-syoped(at the current state of policy anyways). They should all be semi'd.Also what's the new level of auto confirmed?I know it went up,right?Xp54321 (Hello!,Contribs) 21:03, 8 June 2008 (UTC)
For number 2, WP:DEAL is a good example, since anyone who still thinks no aspect of adminship or RfA is not a big deal is clearly off their proverbial rocker. giggy (:O) 03:02, 9 June 2008 (UTC)
Autoconfirmed status is now given after four days and ten edits, previously all you had to do was wait four days. The ten edits thing was added to make creating many, many accounts in order to vandalize semiprotected page more difficult since now you actually have to do something other than simply wait to become autoconfirmed. For someone who is here to help out, ten edits is absolutely paltry. J.delanoygabsadds 03:16, 9 June 2008 (UTC)

I'll give you a queston on your adoption page, but honestly, I could give you questions until the world ends and I would not cover everything. The only way to gain experience is through just doing your thing, using common sense, and learning from any mistakes you make. J.delanoygabsadds 04:50, 9 June 2008 (UTC)

Your post to Jimbo Wales's talkpage

Note: I am crossposting this to your talkpage in case anyone follows the link you've added there to this discussion. Please don't archive or remove it until you archive/remove the rest of the discussion as you are seriously misrepresenting my opinions.
I have removed your use of my name on this proposal. It was not "thought of by me", let alone "originally thought of", and totally misrepresents my opinions. I'm also spectacularly unimpressed with "this was originally thought of by Iridescent (Administrator)", as if "Administrator" is some kind of royal title. Personal comments of mine are not policy proposals — if they were, I'd be making them on Foundation policy-page discussions, not a "chat" style post on your talkpage. Please don't try to associate me with things I have nothing to do with. There are many, many "cons" to such a proposal — I don't personally think the cons outweigh the pros, but they certainly exist. The most glaring of them, in my view, are a) the symbolism of Wikipedia – a global symbol of openness – "locking people out", and b) the drop in contribution numbers that would follow from it (along with the probably loss to Facebook of the "most edited website in the world" title, which is significant in raising funds and public interest). There are many more. If you really care, you can read most of the arguments both ways at Wikipedia:Editors should be logged in users.

In particular, I want to explicitly disassociate myself with your claim that I think "Users Receive Credit for Work: Why edit as an IP address(a stinking number) when you can create your own nickname(like a lot of sites),have your own userpage and receive things like barnstars as credit for your work?! It's somewhat of an obvious thing." is a valid argument. Nobody should be thinking like this on Wikipedia, and saying things like this is why your RFA was opposed as strongly as it was, rather than the usual WP:NOTNOW close. As many, many people have told you — but it never seems to sink in — Wikipedia is not about editcounting, barnstars, or "credit". If you want to see where this mentality led in the past and why WP:NOT#MYSPACE is such a powerful argument – and have a lot of patience for reading long rambling arguments – read this and maybe you'll understand a little better.

Incidentally, posting on Jimbo Wales's talkpage is vanishingly unlikely to even be read by him, let alone be taken seriously; it serves as a sort of unofficial honeypot for our crankier editors. – iridescent 20:21, 10 June 2008 (UTC)
