Chloe Rose

What you're making there is an Other stuff exists argument. Yes, this is done wrong at a lot of other articles, and in a lot of tables. None of that overrules WP:ACCESSIBILITY which is a site policy. 'Rowspan' in the middle of tables like that causes major problems for our sight-impared readership which have to use text-to-speech readers to read Wikipedia. We generally don't disadvantage one set of readers over the other, especially simply because of a "WP:ILIKEIT"-type argument from some of our sighted readership. • I can understand where you're coming from, IJBall, but after reading that page, I did not see enough substantial proof that this is widely enforced, and almost every Award & Nominations page that I come across is formatted so that the title of the nominated project need not be repeated several times. If a page for a public figure like Jennifer Lawrence has never confronted this issue, I find it odd that you continuously undo the edits to this page, when it is clearly not done for most prominent pages.   • The key line in WP:DTT is this: "...especially to somewhat offset the accessibility problems associated with nested tables and with rowspan and colspan,[4] if these are used despite the accessibility problems they pose" (emphasis mine). Again, just because many tables on Wikipedia are ignoring WP:ACCESSIBILITY (often out of ignorance of the issue as much as due to anything else) doesn't excuse ignoring it once editors are made aware of it. In the specific case of Chloe Rose, the 'rowspan' isn't even a significant difference, as we're talking about just 4 rows there, not 7 or 8 or 10 rows. But, again, WP:ACCESSIBILITY is a site policy which means it trumps pretty much any other argument. --IJBall (contribs • talk) 01:16, 24 January 2017 (UTC)
  • In looking at List of awards and nominations received by Jennifer Lawrence, it actually looks like most of those tables are ACCESSIBILITY-compliant, even the last one, though it looks like the last 10 or so rows of the final table are now out of ACCESSIBILITY-compliance.   • You have made some good points, IJBall, but as you also mentioned, on the Chloe Rose page, it is only 4 rows, and hardly poses a threat to accessibility. Also, to note, the only reason the first few tables on the Jennifer Lawrence page seem to comply is because it is by award show, and therefore, for the first few (Academy Awards, etc), there is no need for rowspan because she is only nominated for one award per film (Best Actress). As you can see, as the page goes on, when she is nominated for more than one award per film, per award show (starting with Screen Actors Guild Awards), row span is used for the titles to avoid repetition.
