License tagging for Image:Ampara.PNG
editThanks for uploading Image:Ampara.PNG. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.
For more information on using images, see the following pages:

SLT stub types
editHi - it has come to our notice that you have recently created several new stub types. As it clearly states at WP:STUB, at the top of most stub categories, on the template page for new Wikiprojects and in many other places on Wikipedia, new stub types should be proposed prior to creation at Wikipedia:WikiProject Stub sorting/Proposals, in order to check whether the new stub type is already covered by existing stub types, whether it is named according to stub naming guidelines, whether it reaches the standard threshold for creation of a new stub type, whether it crosses existing stub type hierarchies, and whether better use could be made of a WikiProject-specific talk page template.
In the case of your new stub types, they are already covered by existing stub types, are not named according to stub naming guidelines, and do not reach the standard threshold for creation of a new stub type (in fact, even if every single item in Category:Sri Lankan Tamil history were a stub there would still be fewer stubs that usually required for a new stub type). On top of all that, stub types are almost never created for individual peoples involved in disputes over their national status, for fear of edit warring on templates and categories, which is far far worse for Wikipedia than similar edit wars on articles - and in the case of Sri Lanka's Tamils, their recent history of civil war makes stub types relating directly too them less than ideal. Your new stub types are currently listed for deletion at WP:SFD - please feel free to make any comments there as to any reason why they should be kept. And please, in future, propose new stub types first! Grutness...wha? 06:27, 27 January 2007 (UTC)
- I find some of the above arguments against the stubs not totally acceptable especially the reason stated as On top of all that, stub types are almost never created for individual peoples involved in disputes over their national status, for fear of edit warring on templates and categories, which is far far worse for Wikipedia than similar edit wars on articles - and in the case of Sri Lanka's Tamils, their recent history of civil war makes stub types relating directly too them less than ideal. First what is the policy that states that ? then who decides that they Sri Lankan Tamils are totally in civil war ? Just one group of militants are fighting doesn’t mean the entire sub group has to be held hostage for such vision in Wikipedia. Basques have such problem are the actions of Basque writers, journalists and politicians are all framed by the ETA question ? I think argument has no legs to stand on. But SLT means nothing in Wikipedia, it should be Sri Lankan Tamil Journalist stub or Sri Lankan Tamil Writer and also we should follow Wiki process in creating stubs. As the author is a newbie he will come along with time. My regards to himRaveenS 23:32, 29 January 2007 (UTC)
- "Basques have such a problem..." Well, exactly. That is why there is no {{Basque-hist-stub}} or {{Basque-writer-stub}}. It is also why there is no {{Chechnya-lit-stub}} or {{Ossetia-bio-stub}}, no {{Darfur-bio-stub}} and no {{TurkishNorthernCyprus-geo-stub}}. No areas with disputes have separate stubs. I'd advise you to check out the relevant stub guideline and policy pages, where this is all laid out. Any splitting off of stubs for one such group is likely to lead to edit wars by editors whose political opinions are on the other side of the dispute. Have a look at the mess on Template talk:Cyprus-stub to see some of the debates that can cause. Edit wars on articles are bad, but at least do little collateral harm to Wikipedia's servers or other articles. Edit wars on templates cause huge amounts of harm, as they require the servers to make multiple simultaneous changes. For that reason, templates are deliberately not made in situations where differing political opinion is likely to lead to edit warring - sucvh as when one group of people is involved in a civil war. Also note that this is only one of four different reasons listed for the unacceptability of these stubs. They are very badly formatted and named, and would not be usable in this form. They are already covered by similar stub types relating to Sri Lankans as a whole, and given the size of the Sri Lankan categories any split of them into smaller subtypes is counterproductive from the point of view of stub use. Unlike permanent categories, which are for the benefit of readers and are perfectly acceptable with only one or two articles, stub types are for the benefit of editors looking for articles to expand require a certain optimum level in terms of number of stubs before they can be of any use. That level is normally set at 60 stubs. There are nowhere near 60 stubs in existence on any of these topics, and removing 60 stubs from any of the equivalent Sri Lankan stub categories would reduce them to the point where they are no longer viable. Removing 60 stubs currently marked with SriLanka-bio-stub would reduce that category to just 28 stubs, for example. No - there are multiple reasons why these stub types are a bad idea, hence my reason for taking them to WP:SFD. You don't need to invent faults in me, look at all the faults in the stub type insteads. Grutness...wha? 23:22, 30 January 2007 (UTC)
- First I did not dispute your reason for deletion of the templates because they were procedural and clerical. My commentary was on your personal opinion that said On top of all that, stub types are almost never created for individual peoples involved in disputes over their national status, for fear of edit warring on templates and categories, which is far far worse for Wikipedia than similar edit wars on articles - and in the case of Sri Lanka's Tamils, their recent history of civil war makes stub types relating directly too them less than ideal Who are you to decide that individual people are involved in disputes. What makes you think that the whole populations of Sri Lankan Tamils are in civil war. For that matter vast majority of them live in democratic society with a tiny minority of may be few thousand people fighting for a cause. Just because Americans are fighting wars all the time does it make American people are at war ? It is absurd commentary wholly not necessary for a simple administrative task of deleting a stub which was legitimate to begin with. Administrators have to stick to policies nothing else and the above user was a newbie. Hence all what is needed from experienced editors such as yourself is to show them around when they make mistakes. Also I did not accuse of racism I wrote your commentary may be ill informed if not mildly racist for readers such as myself even if your intention was not as such. I was assuming good faith. I urge you to do the same. Thanks RaveenS
Unspecified source for Image:Ampara.PNG
editThanks for uploading Image:Ampara.PNG. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.
As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 00:35, 30 January 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Balloonguy 00:35, 30 January 2007 (UTC)

PS:Wikipedia:Requests for comment/Yugayuga is the RfC page Grutness filed.
I strongly urge that you strike or reword your "ugly racist face" comment. That's a completely unacceptable personal attack, and as far as I can see, a completely baseless one, as I saw no "bad comments" about a community, only about a stub template. You may simply have misunderstood his initial remarks, but you've now had plenty of opportunity to assess his extensive explanations on this point, and really have no excuse to contain to assume bad faith on his part. Alai 06:51, 31 January 2007 (UTC)
- You appear to have responded to the above by adding further uncivil and unfounded allegations of racism to the same page. Please desist. I'm pretty sure that Grutness would equally have advocated the deletion of a "New Zealander with British parents" stub type, too, for much the same reasons (i.e., nothing to do with "racism"). Alai 08:27, 31 January 2007 (UTC)
- I also strongly urge Yugayuga to remove such commentary from the dispute resolution pages. I know you are a newbie, sometimes it is not necessary to react quickly in wikipedia. Wikipedia process takes time and it takes time just so that people can resolve problems amicably. I urge you strongly to remove those comments and let's face the RFC issue. RaveenS 14:59, 31 January 2007 (UTC)
- I've terminated those comments. Yugayuga 04:18, 2 February 2007 (UTC)
Please have a look at Tamil Wikipedia
editHi, I am one of the Administrators of Tamil wikipedia. I have already created district images for Tamil Wikipedia. I have years of exprience in GIS (Geographic Information System)atleast for Vavuniya I planned to change the image of Vavuniya Distict Please have a look at வவுனியா for more information if you have any comments or suggestion please leave it at உமாபதி. I am mainly concerned with Vavuniya right now please have a look at vavuniya. Thanks in advance. --Umapathy (உமாபதி) 04:27, 1 February 2007 (UTC)
- I feel no problems with your Images. However I'm concentrating only on the English Wikipedia right now. I prefer if you can add your Images to all the Districts of North and East provinces not limiting yourself to Vavuniya. You have to consult Sinhala wikipedians If you want to expand your Images to Southern Provinces. Thanks. Yugayuga 03:24, 2 February 2007 (UTC)

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Vannimai, by Rambutan (talk · contribs), another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Vannimai fits the criteria for speedy deletion for the following reason:
To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Vannimai, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to leave a message on the bot operator's talk page if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. --Android Mouse Bot 2 12:40, 12 July 2007 (UTC)
Vannimai
editA {{prod}} template has been added to the article Vannimai, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but the article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice explains why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may contest the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}}
notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Asian 10,000 Challenge invite
editHi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Asia/The 10,000 Challenge has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge and Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like South East Asia, Japan/China or India etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. At some stage we hope to run some contests to benefit Asian content, a destubathon perhaps, aimed at reducing the stub count would be a good place to start, based on the current Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon which has produced near 200 articles in just three days. If you would like to see this happening for Asia, and see potential in this attracting more interest and editors for the country/countries you work on please sign up and being contributing to the challenge! This is a way we can target every country of Asia, and steadily vastly improve the encyclopedia. We need numbers to make this work so consider signing up as a participant! Thank you. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 05:03, 21 October 2016 (UTC)
New deal for page patrollers
editHi Yugayuga,
In order to better control the quality of new pages, keep out the spam, and welcome the genuine newbies, the current system we introduced in 2011 is being updated and improved. The documentation and tutorials have also been revised and given a facelift. Most importantly a new user group New Page Reviewer has been created.
Under the new rule, you may find that you are temporarily unable to mark new pages as reviewed. However, this is nothing to worry about - most current experienced patrollers are being accorded the the new right without the need to apply, and if you have significant previous experience of patrolling new pages, we strongly encourage you to apply for the new right as soon as possible - we need all the help we can get, and we are now providing a dynamic, supportive environment for your work.
Find out more about this exiting new user right now at New Page Reviewers and be sure to read the new tutorial before applying. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 04:30, 13 November 2016 (UTC)

Further, there are more than 20 proposals related to Watchlists in general that you may be interested in reviewing. (and over 260 proposals in all, across many aspects of wikis)
Thank you for your consideration. Please note that voting for proposals continues through December 12, 2016.
Note: You received this message because you have transcluded {{User wikipedia/RC Patrol}} (user box) on your user page. Since this message is "one-time-only" there is no opt out for future mailings.

Hi. We're into the last five days of the Women in Red World Contest. There's a new bonus prize of $200 worth of books of your choice to win for creating the most new women biographies between 0:00 on the 26th and 23:59 on 30th November. If you've been contributing to the contest, thank you for your support, we've produced over 2000 articles. If you haven't contributed yet, we would appreciate you taking the time to add entries to our articles achievements list by the end of the month. Thank you, and if participating, good luck with the finale!
The article Sri Lankan Tamil painting has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
This is more about Sri Lankan Tamil artists than a description of Tamil painting/artworks. The only source provided is about one artist, Sanathanan Thamotharampillai.
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Dan arndt (talk) 02:07, 17 April 2024 (UTC)
