Bibliothèque et Archives nationales du Québec (BAnQ, Library and national Archives of Quebec), Wikimedia Canada, the Lionel-Groulx Foundation and Francophone association for knowledge, are collaborating to provide users of the Great Library in Montreal, workshops to improve the quality of the encyclopedia Wikipedia. Since February 2014, on the first Tuesday of every month, experienced wikipedians share their knowledge with all those who wish to know more about this online encyclopedia, especially how to contribute to the development of its English and French versions. This portal serves the participants and wikipedians in order to coordinate their efforts. It will also serve as a workspace and a roadmap. DescriptioneditBibliothèque et Archives nationales du Québec (BAnQ, Library and national Archives of Quebec) has a mass of books and documents, both old and modern, as well as rich archives covering the main themes, and provides participants with the necessary documentation to write Well documented wikis. Participants benefit from the help of experienced contributors, as well as the support of specialized librarians and archivists. These workshops aim to improve the content of Wikipedia, increase the number of Canadian contributors, take advantage of BAnQ's documentary and professional resources and promote Québec, New France, French Canada or, more broadly, French America. Tuesday is Wiki! Is a free workshop open to all. Participants who subscribe to BAnQ have the privilege of borrowing books for an exceptional period of six weeks. The workshops will cease during the summer period and will resume in September 2017. Thus, the Grande Bibliothèque becomes the monthly meeting point for Montreal wikipedians. People unable to attend Tuesday workshops can participate remotely through videoconferencing telepresence. Participating in Tuesday is Wiki! At BAnQ is free and everyone is welcome. Before participating in a workshop, it is strongly advised to create your account on Wikipedia, if not already done. |
