Operator: Dottydotdot
Automatic or Manually Assisted:Automatic-unsupervised
Programming Language(s): Python
Function Overview: Gets Wikiquote's Quote of the Day every day
Edit period(s): Daily
Already has a bot flag (Y/N): No
Function Details: This gets the current Quote of the day from Wikiquote, so it can then be used on talk pages etc. I think it would be good if I put it into maybe 3 different templates-one with just the quote-as seen at User:DottyQuoteBot/qotd, one in a box without the accompanying image, & one in a box with the image. I don't know enough about making templates etc. to make these so will have to ask someone else to do that. Feel free to ask any questions about it! Cheers

editIs it just going to edit its own userspace? - Jarry1250 (t, c) 17:53, 26 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- If not, then it should probably set up some similar structure {{POTD}} has. Amalthea 17:56, 26 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- No, that was just so I could test it & show it worked-yep, definitely something like POTD-as I say, I don't know enough to do that-so hopefully someone will help! dottydotdot (talk) 19:05, 26 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- Although I doubt we would bother with the archive of them all-that's something for Wikiquote to do-so just the main template(s). dottydotdot (talk) 19:34, 26 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Comment: Looks to be quite a useful bot, sort of similar to Wikinews Importer Bot (talk · contribs). Cirt (talk) 08:47, 27 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Approved for trial (5 days). Please provide a link to the relevant contributions and/or diffs when the trial is complete. Let's see how it does. – Quadell (talk) 18:51, 29 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- OK, it's going to do it at Template:QOTD, Thanks Dottydotdot (talk) 19:51, 29 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- You might want to put the line "Imported from Wikiquote..." in <noinclude> or something similar, and use
<br />
instead of<br>

Trial complete.OK I think that's 5 times-two problems-the month date was being shortened to 3 letters which is fine for May, but not for June & the first 0 for numbers below 10 wasn't being taken off-so it couldn't find the quote on Wikiquote-both fixed-so a lucky time to test it at!
