Automatic or Manually Assisted: Automatic, but supervised

Edit period(s): Whenever it's needed, most likely no more than in sessions occurring once every few days
Already has a bot flag (Y/N): No, but requests one
Function Details: Mainly minor edits for the Outline of Knowledge WikiProject. Examples of tasks can be seen here. As soon as a new request comes up, I shall update here. For two outstanding examples, please see this version of my talk page.

editThis is my first BRFA, so please do ask if you wish more detail on anything that I may have left out. NW (Talk) (How am I doing?) 00:54, 23 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- The status of this wikiproject is currently being addressed at [1]. I would suggest holding off until the issue is resolved. Nakon 03:25, 24 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- I had no idea as to even the existence of the AN discussion. I might jump into that discussion, and update this BRFA when it is over. NW (Talk) (How am I doing?) 03:49, 24 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- I saw general consensus at that AN thread that administrator action was not necessary there, and have since boldly archived the page. Even if a RfC is filed, I feel that that shouldn't halt work for a month while people argue, so I think it would be fine if this BRFA went ahead? If, somehow, there is a general trend in consensus to massively change or stop the project, of course I would not run the bot further, but I did not see such a consensus on AN. Seeing as this task was approved not too long ago as Wikipedia:Bots/Requests for approval/Thehelpfulbot 3, I'm approving this for trial. The task is proven to work, and a technical proof is necessary. Approved for trial (35 edits). Please provide a link to the relevant contributions and/or diffs when the trial is complete. - Trial complete. And, of course, instead of doing a Find/Replace task, I did a task that required me to append a notice to 35 pages. I actually don't have any tasks at the moment that could serve as Find/Replace ones, but appending and prepending will be a usual task of the bot, which I forgot to mention earlier. If you wish, I could get a find/replace trial done within a few days. NW (Talk) (How am I doing?) 16:25, 25 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I'm having trouble understanding what other sorts of tasks this bot might do. Sure, appending project notices is totally uncontroversial, and the trial shows no problems. But the example you list above seems to show pasting four identical sections to the talk pages of over a hundred articles, complete with another user's signature. Is that right? – Quadell (talk) 00:02, 26 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- That wasn't a standard task above (and during those edits, my edit summary said something along the lines of "Posting notices on behalf of The Transhumanist"). Standard tasks might include edits like [2], [3], [4], [5], [6] or [7], which Thehelpfulbot is already doing. This bot would essentially be doing tasks that THO could do but does not have the time to do all of at the moment. NW (Talk) (How am I doing?) 01:11, 26 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I'm inclined to approve, but I'm interested in hearing others' opinions first. – Quadell (talk) 13:10, 26 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- Approved. And I'm inclined to agree with Quadell. This is pretty basic stuff, and I'm sure NW will seek further approval if he embarks on anything more serious. - Jarry1250 (t, c) 12:08, 27 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
