This is a collection of discussions on the deletion of articles related to Japan. It is one of many deletion lists coordinated by WikiProject Deletion sorting. Anyone can help maintain the list on this page.

Adding a new AfD discussion
Adding an AfD to this page does not add it to the main page at WP:AFD. Similarly, removing an AfD from this page does not remove it from the main page at WP:AFD. If you want to nominate an article for deletion, go through the process on that page before adding it to this page. To add a discussion to this page, follow these steps:
  1. Edit this page and add {{Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/PageName}} to the top of the list. Replace "PageName" with the relevant article name, i.e. the one on the existing AFD discussion. Also, indicate the title of the article in the edit summary as it is particularly helpful to add a link to the article in the edit summary. When you save the page, the discussion will automatically appear.
  2. You should also tag the AfD by adding {{subst:delsort|Japan|~~~~}} to it, which will inform editors that it has been listed here. You may place this tag above or below the nomination statement or at the end of the discussion thread.
There are a few scripts and tools that can make this easier.
Removing a closed AfD discussion
Closed AfD discussions are automatically removed by a bot.
Other types of discussions
You can also add and remove other discussions (prod, CfD, TfD etc.) related to Japan. For the other XfD's, the process is the same as AfD (except {{Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/PageName}} is used for MFD and {{transclude xfd}} for the rest). For PRODs, adding a link with {{prodded}} will suffice.

For further information see Wikipedia's deletion policy and WP:AfD for general information about Articles for Deletion, including a list of article deletions sorted by day of nomination.

WP:REDUNFORK of Kamen Rider Gavv. It only has 2 episodes as of now which fails WP:TVSPLIT for being WP:TOOSOON Warm Regards, Miminity (talk) (contribs) 05:30, 7 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

2 episodes as of now, but the series is expected to run weekly for an entire year like every series in the Super Sentai/Kamen Rider franchise. Exukvera (talk) 14:43, 7 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
probably draftify it for now. Warm Regards, Miminity (talk) (contribs) 23:50, 7 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
How much episodes are needed so that it can be properly accepted as an article? 10? 20? The series is expected to have 40+ eps. Exukvera (talk) 17:39, 8 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
See WP:TVSPLIT it said at least 50 but I saw many list of episodes of animes. Listing 24 as minimum Warm Regards, Miminity (talk) (contribs) 00:59, 9 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
In a few months this discussion will be pointless. All series in this franchise have a separate episode list because the main article would be too big with it. Some anime episode lists have 12 episodes or less, specially when there are multiple seasons with a separate article for each season. You can consider this as a list for another season in a 50+ yrs long show. Exukvera (talk) 06:06, 9 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
it's WP:TOOSOON plus it has a separate article that had an "episode" section Warm Regards, Miminity (talk) (contribs) 06:08, 9 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The episode section in the main article only has the titles. It would be too big with the titles and summaries and references for each ep. All Tokusatsu pages are made in a similar fashion. Exukvera (talk) 06:13, 9 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Then I'll just WP:DRAFTIFY it for the moment until it reaches 24 episodes Warm Regards, Miminity (talk) (contribs) 09:00, 9 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Relisting comment: Relisting because no one except the nominator has expressed a "vote" on what should happen with this article. I had thought the nominator was arguing for Delete but now I can't tell if you are advocating Draftify. Please do not just discuss an article but cast your bolded vote so the consensus can be determined and this discussion can be closed.

I agree, it’s part of an entire series of articles for the different Japanese football leagues which not only tracks the competitions year by year, but the teams too. Cutting out a single article in the series seems like it would break up the series for no good reason, when the information itself is super clearly presented, and threaded, in a way I haven’t been able to find anywhere else online.
In my opinion deleting it would take away something useful. For that reason, I have the page a solid edit tonight. I’ve still got to go ahead and add match report links to each individual game, but I think I at least covered the basics.
This is such a useful resource that I’m going to make it a mission to pick through all the rest of the articles in the series one by one, and expand / source each of those as well. So it would be really nice if you didn’t delete this one article as I’m doing that…

Does not meet WP:GNG and insufficient to be presumed notable by WP:NGEO. Suggesting redirect to George W. Reamer#Professional background, which has been done twice by two separate editors but being objected by an editor. Graywalls (talk) 03:53, 6 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Strikes me as notable - I performed a quick search for citations and added a couple books which mention the subject. I may also send an email to the Monterey County Historical Society to see what resources they have should this article be kept (and welcome anyone else doing so). DCsansei (talk) 08:31, 6 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
On an aside, was this listed as "Japan" simply because of the garden or is there a further connection? DCsansei (talk) 08:32, 6 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@DCsansei:, by "mention" is it significant coverage? Reference bombing with "mentions" can't compensate for lack of in-depth significant coverage. It's just like if a really large slab of wood is sought after, a whole bunch of wood chips won't substitute it and that's basically what packing together a bunch of sources with a mere mention is attempting to do. I put it in Japan category based on "Architectural style(s) Japanese architecture". Graywalls (talk) 13:27, 6 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Comment buildings that would otherwise not be notable often become so because of previous occupants. This of course will immediately trigger the knee-jerk reaction about the essay WP:INHERIT (which has tons of qualifiers and warnings about usage). We have many examples of buildings that became notable because of previous occupants, for example Bron-Yr-Aur, "best known for its association with the English rock band Led Zeppelin". The place and the people who lived there become "associated" ie. the place is famous because of the famous people associated with it. This of course needs to be backed up with sources, which is why INHERIT does not apply, so long as there are sources, there is nothing wrong with a place made famous by famous residents. -- GreenC 14:46, 6 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Redirect to George W. Reamer (the builder/architect who is notable) or alternatively to Jean Arthur a notable actress who lived in the house for a while and apparently did a lot of entertaining there. I gave the subject of this AfD a lot of thought before coming here to !vote. The house itself is not notable, the sources describe it in relation to the Reamer or Arthur. I'm sure it is or was a very nice house with a beautiful view, there are a lot of nice homes for wealthy Californians in Carmel – this one is not wiki-notable. It's one of scores California "celebrity homes" (WP:MILL). It is not on the NRHP or even the state registry (neither of which would confer an "instant" notability pass anyways). There are a few claims in the article that I have been unable verify in the sources. Netherzone (talk) 13:45, 8 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Celebrities need to live somewhere, so you are right there are probably many in CA. More important is if reliable sources talk about it, is how notability is assessed. -- GreenC 04:57, 9 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment: If this building is deemed not notable enough for its own article, there's actually a section dedicated to it at Jean Arthur#Driftwood Cottage, which might be a suitable merge or redirect target. Left guide (talk) 06:33, 9 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

  • I would like to see some way to keep the content, and suggest a merge to Fuji Television. For the ones which are made by Fuji, which doesn't include Zen-chan (please, please, don't do combined nominations of disparate articles!). Not sure about Zen-chan, as like @Mushy Yank this came up as a single article for me and I hadn't given it any thought before starting this comment
On Pinch to Punch it's unfortunate that there is so little secondary material out there although it seems even the primary material has been lost. This attests to its importance in the context of the development of Anime. This article could be perfectly happy as a stub, verified by what little information is out there, but it's hard to make a case for IAR on this.
Keep based on the anime encyclopedia entry and the existence of multiple shorter sources in the en. article and in the jp. article. Although the encyclopedia is the only lengthy treatment found, the article subject is clearly a launching point in the history of Japanese anime. The article is verifiable and the project benefits (and has little to lose) from these stub articles. Since this is basically an IAR argument, I've struck my inconsistent comment above. I still wouldn't object to a merge as a backup. Oblivy (talk) 07:09, 3 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The issue with developing these articles would be our inability to access archives which would have information about an anime series from 50 years ago. Hard to imagine that Pinch and Punch, a series with 156 episodes airing on a national TV channel, wouldn't be notable with access to the correct archives. If someone is interested, perhaps Fuji or the National Film Archive of Japan can help? I would personally either keep or merge the articles at a minimum. Delete. NBAD is subordinate to the higher requirements of NSPORT, including SPORTCRIT, which demands an IRS SIGCOV source be cited in the article. Routine event recaps don't count towards notability, and we don't have evidence of meeting SPORTCRIT through any other coverage. JoelleJay (talk) 02:13, 12 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
What is the point of having the WP:SNG guideline if they are not given some level of deference? I agree that writing this article was likely premature but the fact remains that as of September 1, 2024, she has now passes a subject-specific notability guideline. In the spirit of ignore all rules, I don't see the point of deleting an article now when the guideline states that she now meets a level where significant coverage is likely to exist (or will very soon exist). Wikipedia is not served by deleting articles for individuals for whom "appropriate sourcing likely exists" just to recreate them. DCsansei (talk) 11:29, 13 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Comment on the talk pages of the articles, not here. If you agree with the proposed deletion, you don't have to do anything. If you think the article merits keeping, then remove the {{prod}} template and make an effort to improve the article so that it clearly meets the notability and verifiability criteria.
