OriginalPortrait of an African Man is a painting by Netherlandish Renaissance painter Jan Mostaert. The identity of the subject is unclear; theories have suggested that he was a soldier, a nobleman or Saint Maurice. The portrait is significant in that it portrays the only black man in early modern European painting in an independent way.
