Cenk Uygur image needs logo-washing and shadow work

edit

Article(s): Cenk Uygur

Request: I think this nice image could be either cropped or filled in some of the background to reduce the corporate presence. Also, perhaps a little shadow work could even out the lighting. Thanks very much. Ocaasi c 22:26, 28 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Graphist opinion(s):

I took a shot at it here: File:Cenk_Uygur_at_Streamys_cropped.jpg. It's pretty basic but maybe works.

Rodion Shchedrin

edit

I suggested File:Scedrin-Plisecka1.JPG, which apears on composer Rodion Shchedrin and elsewhere, for DYK and was told that it is too dark, not showing the faces. Can you improve it? Possibly under a new file name, as suggested by Michael Bednarek who wrote: "I think you will get much more competent assistance from the Wikipedia:Graphic Lab, particularly from the Wikipedia:Graphic Lab/Photography workshop. As the image File:Scedrin-Plisecka1.JPG is used on many Wikipedias, I suggest not to overwrite the original but to upload it under a different name." --Gerda Arendt (talk) 08:34, 9 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Request: Can you convert them to .PNG ? Make sure there are no missing or scrapped parts. --Kungfu2187 (talk) 00:34, 14 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Graphist opinion(s): I assume the reason for the requested conversion is that you want a transparent background? Is that correct? JBarta (talk) 01:09, 14 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Yes. Make sure there are no missing or scrapped parts. --Kungfu2187 (talk) 03:36, 14 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I didn't convert to PNG, but I did lighten the images as they were much too dark. Hopefully you'll approve. Regarding a transparent background, my opinion is that the images are too low of a resolution to make the background transparent. Sure, you can make the white areas transparent, but the anti-aliasing around the weapon is the problem area. Place the image on a darker background and it will have a halo around it. In order to remove the halo, the edges of the weapon must be removed. Either way, it's a problem and the result is a substandard image. I think the quality solution is to simply leave the image as a jpg on a white background. In other words, do nothing. JBarta (talk) 02:31, 15 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Request: This image needs to be enlarged and enhanced. Kungfu2187 (talk) 09:44, 2 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Graphist opinion(s): Images cannot actually be "enlarged and enhanced". Sure, you can double the size, but then you end up with a larger image of even lower quality. Your best bet is to leave it as it is, and if you want it displayed larger on the page, then just use the "size" attribute in the wiki markup. And of course, you could always get yourself a higher resolution image to play with. JBarta (talk) 01:03, 14 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

No enlagred. I confirm enhanced. --Kungfu2187 (talk) 03:36, 14 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

It's good, thanks but I don't like the face as it looks now. It's a bit too blurry with those unneeded dots. Vearthy (talk) 20:18, 27 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I've removed the spots. What do you think? – Kerαunoςcopiagalaxies 23:14, 27 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Compared to the original photo, left side of the man's face is brighter while the right side is nearly as dark. Vearthy (talk) 19:56, 28 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
The face is now the same brightness as the original. I didn't want to lighten the shadows and keep the highlights the same level, that would ruin the contrast. What do you think? – Kerαunoςcopiagalaxies 21:00, 29 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I took a shot at this. Started with the original from the U of T website. Adjusted brightness & contrast. Gamma-corrected it a little lighter. The original is pixelated (grainy) because of a low quality jpg scan (or poor conversion). Attempts to "smooth" such an image usually don't go very well. You end up with a "smoother" image, but you lose a lot of detail and the image just doesn't look right. Sort of a garbage in, garbage out situation. I think this slightly lightened image is perfectly presentable for an old photo. JBarta (talk) 12:03, 11 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I see, looks good. Maybe what I did was overkill. Vearthy can resolve this if he's happy with it. : ) – Kerαunoςcopiagalaxies 08:43, 17 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Well, I don't know if it was really truly blue either. It just didn't seem like discoloration to me. Perhaps it is; I've no idea. --Cybercobra (talk) 07:04, 29 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
So the plot thickens. I'll leave it up to you to research the matter further. Maybe you can find other covers from the same period and make an accurate determination one way or another. In the meantime, we'll leave it as it is. JBarta (talk) 07:30, 29 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Request: Nice photo, with an unfortunate yellow triangle at upper left, presumably a display-case reflection. Help? TIA, Pete Tillman (talk) 20:17, 23 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

  • Wow, what a difference! Thank you, thank you, thank you! Very cool pot, which you can actually see now. I'm pretty sure it's a transformation-shaman (prehistoric Mighty Morphin Power Priest) -- there are some great rock-paintings along the Pecos at the Rio Grande, down in South Texas, with HUGE versions of that theme (serpent -> shaman morphs). Request: Clean and improve the background, and suit if possible; it's light at some areas and dark at some. Remove weird whitish spot around his mustache (the current pic makes it look as if he had bread crumbs stuck in his beard).--KAVEBEAR (talk) 02:26, 23 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
