Search box gone--not in upper right, not anywhere...?

Am I blind or lost my mind? I can't find the search box anywhere anymore. I know it was moved to the top right from everything I've read telling me where it is...but it's simply not here at all. I have poured over every sq inch of screen space to no avail. The only way I can access it seems is to search from google. What the heck????

See the question immediately above. This may be a problem that intermittently affects some users. You can also go to the Special:Search page. I typically use Google custom search on Wikipedia anyway, since I got in the habit of using it before Wikipedia's built-in search function improved. --Teratornis (talk) 01:05, 11 December 2010 (UTC)

Are you referring to List of Seinfeld minor characters#Notable one-time characters. That list doesn't try to be exhaustive. The show had 180 episodes. Only an admin can delete an image, but you can fix the error on your computer and then upload the fixed file with the same name. ~~ GB fan ~~ 12:18, 11 December 2010 (UTC)

(e/c) If you go to the file image page - presumably File:FBI ranks.jpg, the file you have just uploaded - you will see a link partway down the page to "Upload a new version of this file". Bad faith

Will you please take away my rollbacker and reviewer? The reason is that while most of my edits here on Wikipedia have been good faith, my most recent was bad faith. My original idea was to make something comply with the rest of the page, but while I was doing it, I decided it was a bad thing because it made Wikipedia less convenient for readers. Only an administrator can adjust your permissions. Your request seems odd to me, though. I see that you've been experimenting with the formatting of the page 300. If you've changed your mind about what you've done, you can just revert to the version you think is best. I don't understand how good faith/bad faith is relevant to this. But if you really want to have your premissions reduced, make a request on your talk page and draw attention to it with the {{adminhelp}} template. -- John of Reading (talk) 14:13, 11 December 2010 (UTC)

John already responded. I suggest you edit another article to get your mind off the really minor issues related to the 300 article. Either that, or take a short break from Wikipedia. Most people have done things they are ashamed of. I am sad if I see that somebody stops doing something of value to them, or to others, because of something they regret doing. Has this account been compromised? Perhaps by one of the account holder's fellow students? The request to have permissions reduced reads almost like some sort of prank. I own a hand chiseled water trough that I have knowledge of being at least 60 yrs. old. It is 5ft. long 2ft. wide and 1ft. tall. background colour into grey !

please if anyone knows how to contact wikipedia designers; tell them to add an option that enables users to change the background colour of articles so it becomes easier to read!

changing the background color into grey is less harmful to eyesight than white..

i don't know how didn't the designers of wikipedia didn't think of that!

and don't say u can't change it to black and that shiny green colour it's silly! and it only works when using a single theme!

Your browser may have options to force a particular background colour. I've just experimented with the Firefox controls at "Tools / Options / Content / Fonts & Colours" and turned my background pink... and back to white. -- John of Reading (talk) 16:10, 11 December 2010 (UTC)

It's possible that nobody who is reading the Help desk knows how to analyze the problem you are seeing. I sure don't. Can you see the Google cached copy of the article? Other things to try:

• Look at some previous revisions of the article. Does the problem affect all previous revisions, or only some of them?
• Look at:
  • United States Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Ad Hoc Subcommittee on State, Local, and Private Sector Preparedness and Integration which is a redirect to:
  • United States Senate Homeland Security Ad Hoc Subcommittee on State, Local, and Private Sector Preparedness and Integration. Does viewing the article from a redirect change anything?
• Can you edit the article (i.e. open the article wikitext in an edit window and preview it)?

Wow, that's not the response I expected. In particular, that you are not able to see the Google cached page seems dumbfounding to me. My next suggestion would be to try downloading the HTML of the page to a file, with a program such as wget, and see if you can open that file in your browser. Need help with template

Wikipedia:Administrator intervention against vandalism, WP:AIV for short. Read the instructions at the top of the page before asking for a block. Most admins will want an IP to have been warned 4 times before blocking. Additional film for Capucine

The article says it's a "selected" filmography. I don't know how one decides which films should be listed and which shouldn't, but to the extent it's any indication, From Hell to Victory doesn't have its own Wikipedia article, although that's true of some of the others that are listed. Rotten Tomatoes has no reviews, although that's not always surprising for an older film. Anyway, you could always add it.--Bbb23 (talk) 23:07, 11 December 2010 (UTC)

Mentoring a disruptive editor

I've seen discussions at ANI where a blocked editor's block is lifted if another editor offers to mentor them. My question is this: If the mentor fails in this goal, that is the editor becomes disruptive again, does reflect poorly on the mentor? A Quest For Knowledge (talk) 22:00, 11 December 2010 (UTC)

Personally, I'd look at what the mentor has done - if their actions have been correct, and it's purely the mentoree who is taking the piss then no, I wouldn't see it as a reflection on the mentor. However, if the mentor has failed to see the problems, or have ignored them, then it could be seen as a problem in the mentor as well -- PhantomSteve.alt/talk\^{[alternative account of Phantomsteve]} 22:46, 11 December 2010 (UTC)

Need help entering article in Wikipedia

I tried to enter an article, it was suggested it might not be significant enough and to put it in the "Talk" section? I hit the "move" in blue but it was just more info about why I should and a warning not to cut and paste.

I would love to put my proposed article in the "talk" place, but I'm just not adept at putting something in. I read different Wiki instructions and when I started to try to follow what it said there were a lot of warnings about did I want to move away from the site.
