Can't log in on a new computer

I'm logged in right now on my old XP computer, but I get an error when trying to log in on my new W7 computer. I'm entering the same password but I get a does not match error. Please be extra-certain that you are entering the correct password before blaming something else. Type the password in a textbox outside the password field (the search box, for instance) to be sure it's correct, then paste it into the password field. Make sure you aren't misremembering your password -- on the XP machine, if you have the password saved in your browser, be certain that you are not capitalizing a letter that should be miniscule or making some other small mistake. (In Firefox, Tools -> Preferences -> Security -> Saved Passwords... -> Show Passwords.) Finally, I have been baffled by some websites that have case-sensitive usernames; although I don't think that is the case here, if you are typing your username as "keoka" it wouldn't hurt to try it as "Keoka". In any case, if none of that works, your only choice left may be to request a password reset. Before doing that, go on the XP machine and make sure you associate a valid e-mail address with your account. Xenon54 (talk) 02:20, 31 October 2010 (UTC)

The article was deleted because it read like an advertisement. Wikipedia is an encyclopedia and not a resume posting service. See WP:NOT for more on that. Dismas|^(talk) 07:49, 31 October 2010 (UTC)

There are three older questions from you further up this page - one, two, three - plus this one and the previous one from today. All have been answered. You have created an article Unconscious - The Real Life but I do not see it mentioned in any of the questions. Sushil, part of your problem may be that you are editing from a dynamic IP address, which makes it very hard to return to previous edits. If you were to create an account, the "my contributions" tab would make navigating to previous edits simple, including the various questions and duplicate questions you have asked, all of which have been answered. SUGGESTION FOR IMPROVING CONTENT

Dear Sir,

I am an ardent admirer of your web site. I was under the heading TABLA & also C V Raman - the great Nobel lauret who is known to have worked on colours / spectrophotometry tec.

But he did wonderful study on TABLA and audio / music too.

For example he took TABLA, sprinkled talcum powder and externally excited it with sine wave from a speaker. The talcum powder got distributed on the surface of the Tabla skin in a particular manner - when it started resonating with the excitation ferqeuncy. He then excited it with different harmonics of the fundamental freqeuncy and found different patterns. Now you refer to a black patch in the tabla- in one it is in the center and in the other it is off set. So the one in the tabla with patch (ink made of rice starch etc) in the center gets excited at even harmonics and the other which has patch with off set gets exicted at odd harmonics. So depending the skill used in applying the patch, the response of the tabla can vary. Moreover the material used for the cavity (made of wood, copper, brass, aluminumetc) can result in different performances. Western drums do not have this patch and so effect of harmonics is not there. Similary electronic instrumemnts developed lack similar finies.

(edit conflict)::I agree that it is not suitable for Wikipedia. As it stands, it is not even suitable for userspace as it states "Permission is granted to copy, print, or publish this document by citing the name of the writer of this document.". As it says below this edit field, " You irrevocably agree to release your contributions under the CC-BY-SA 3.0 License and the GFDL.". I can't suggest any way that you can turn this into something suitable without changing it almost beyond recognition. Wikipedia is not an appropriate place for a discussion document, a proposal, etc. and it quite clearly starts "A DOCUMENT TO INITIATE DEBATE by: Ahmed Abdulazeem". Yes, Wikipedia doesn't seem suited to your needs. There are many web hosting services that would allow you to publish this under your own terms, where it could not be edited by other people. If you want your essay removed from Wikipedia to stop other people copying it or changing it, first save a copy for yourself, then type {{db-userreq}} anywhere on that page, and it will be deleted shortly. Bracket in title of cite news messing up reference

I know the fix of percent-encoding urls as a work-around to the problem of brackets or other characters that break them. I have a related problem for which this fix is not working. I am working on an article in which I want to place [sic] in a title field in {{cite news}}. Using [sic] breaks the template and using %5Bsic%5D as a replacement isn't helping. I also tried using {{sic}}, which also doesn't work. Any ideas? Thanks.--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 14:14, 31 October 2010 (UTC)

(strangely, e/c with both) Template:Cite book/doc helpfully says the [] characters must be escaped but doesn't recommend a way to do it. Removing deleted article from Google search results

When an article has been deleted, it still shows up on a Google search and clicking on the result takes the enquirer to the deletion notice. This can be embarrassing to the subject of a deleted BLP. How long will it normally be before a deleted article drops off Google's radar? Can that be accelerated? I have tried following the procedure at WP:GOOGLEPURGE, but I am not sure it will work for a deleted article as it requires one to certify that "The page returns a 404/410, or has been blocked by robots.txt or a noindex meta tag" and I don't think a deleted WP page satisfies that. How search engines, mirrors, archive sites etcetera respond is beyond our control. Typically from what I've seen in Google pages are removed in a few days, but it does vary from article to article and possible from searcher to searcher also. Regards, SunCreator ^(talk) 14:40, 31 October 2010 (UTC)

Yes, but that's the one that requires that "The page returns a 404/410, or has been blocked by robots.txt or a noindex meta tag" and I don't think that is true, or can be made to be true, of a WP deleted page. JohnCD (talk) 14:52, 31 October 2010 (UTC)

It's likely Google would of known of it before you even got around to thinking about GOOGLEPURGE. For a big important site like Wikipedia I imagine it will intelligently be checked thousands of pages per second. Further, as the user asked information four times to you and received encouraging guidelines to publish an article (and published), next intimation (continuation of the above) was: "Nominator unsure of category" Discussion

The article is entirely neutral and is unique and does not belong to the user. It will remain undisputed and no copyright violation is there as it is unique and goes in an acceptable way with, and according to, your basic article publication policies. These features shall avoid for the article to be in the discussion for 'AfD'. The indication given to be in AfD is "Nominator unsure of category" which is unreasonable as the category is Philosophy and it is also following the concepts of the psychology. However, as the user was not sure how to add multiple categories and also asked questions four times so it was looking awkward to interfere repeatedly in the Help Desk. If you like the user to add further categories or editing according to your view, it would be good enough for the user to work upon.

Moreover, there was no sponsorship (or scholarship) for the philosopher and was going through financial hardship. It should be our approach as a human to work for the philosopher's view. This was the reason the user was putting all the efforts (for web marketing) which may not be gentle, to make the philosophy as an acceptable view to all of us.

Again, the article is entirely unique and does not belong to the user; and I apologize for not being gentle in the web market.

If you can guide what best to do in keeping this article at its place (wikipedia) including the presence in the web world to remain approachable to all, the user would be grateful to you.

We all are pleased to use your service for reliable information.

The place to comment about this is the deletion discussion at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Unconscious - The Real Life, but before commenting there, please read Wikipedia:No original research, which will explain to you that Wikipedia is not the place to publish your original ideas. Chapeau Act

You don't have a listing explaining what a Chapeau Act is. A Chapeau Act is a circus act that involves people wearing multiple layers of clothing. I even tried Google & Yahoo searches & no links.

Also there is no listing for all the different types of circus acts.

My password doesn't work and I can't get a new one

I've checked my email trash and spam folders, but I'm getting no response.

There's some advice at Help:Logging_in#What_if_I_forget_the_password.3F. That seems a drastic step to me, but I'm not aware of any other workarounds for a lost password. Silly question: Are you sure that the email address registered with your Wikipedia account is the same as the one you checking? -- John of Reading (talk) 21:24, 31 October 2010 (UTC)

Foreign Language Articles

What's the policy regarding links to foreign language article? I've been creating some articles for some award winning mathematicians. I used Google to find all mention of them on other pages, so I could Wikify as much as possible. Two of these pages were on the German language Wikipedia. They were not linked, so I added the link [[:en:page name]]. Well, someone's come along, reverted my edits and given me a level one Twinkle-like warning (presumably for vandlaism!) I presume you are editing on the German Wikipedia, correct? If so, I believe users are not supposed to add interwiki links, except for the Languages section in the toolbox ([[en:page name]]). WikiCopter (radio • sorties • images • lost • defense • attack) 21:00, 31 October 2010 (UTC)

Wikipedia languages can make their own rules. Help:Interlanguage links#Inline interlanguage links mentions the possibility of inline-linking from English articles to another language but it's rarely done. de:Hilfe:Internationalisierung#Inline-Link bans the same from German articles. It was linked in the polite message you received at de:Benutzer Diskussion:Fly by Night. It wasn't a vandalism warning. The edit summary called it a "Level 1 warning" and I think you are putting too much into that. I don't know the German practice but various level 1 warnings are common for non-vandalism edits in English. See Wikipedia:Template messages/User talk namespace. They are called "level 1 warnings" because they are part of a warning level system, but at level 1 they are often more like polite pointers than "warnings" and might not have been called warnings at all if they weren't part of a system. Take a look at {{toolong}} where is says "If a particular section of an article is getting long, even though it has already been split to its own article as per the summary style, then it can be tagged by adding {{Very long|section|date=October 2010}} to the top of the section." — Fly by Night (talk) 23:04, 31 October 2010 (UTC)

P.S. You can often guess template names. If you want a name for a template for a section that's too long then type template: into the search bar. As you continue to type, the list will narrow down. If you typed template:too into the search bar then the template you require would be the fourth one on the list, after {{toomuchtrivia}}, {{toolbox}} and {{tools}}. Failing that, go to Google and search Wikipedia template section too long. Your first hit is the template you want. — Fly by Night (talk) 23:14, 31 October 2010 (UTC)
