Fannie Branson horses and history

Have you tried Wikipedia's Reference Desk? Photos submitted

About 18 months ago, I submitted original photos from a concert I attended in Orlando Florida of Sugarland. I completed the proper paperwork and gave permission to Wikipedia to use the photos. Tonight I looked for the photos but was unsuccessful in locating them. Would you be able to assist me in this endeavor? I will be attending a Kenny Chesney concert in May of this year and will have seats close to the stage. I intend to submit photos for his webpage @ Wikipedia. Just want to make sure that they will be posted and I would like to see these. Please send help my way. In order to have uploaded photos here or at our companion site for free images, the Wikimedia Commons, you had to have done so using a user account you created. If you can tell us the exact name of the account you used, we can then check its contributions (included deleted contributions) to see what became of the images. Since you left this message editing under your IP address, which has no other posts but this one, you haven't provided us any information to go on to investigate your question, other than possibly searching the history of the article on Sugarland to see whether it at one time had some images included that are no longer present; I just tried that, though not in great depth, and came up empty. You say you "gave permission to Wikipedia". Do you remember if you specifically said that the photos could be used by Wikipedia, or did you agree to release them under a free license (e.g. GFDL or Creative Commons)? If the former, then there's a good chance that the images were deleted since the license Wikipedia operates under means that such strict releases are unsuitable. New article - submission declined

Recently, we posted an article on our company and submitted for review.

We were returned a "This submission has been declined. The reviewer left the following comment: We're sorry, but we cannot accept unsourced suggestions or sources that are not reliable per the verifiability policy. Please cite reliable, third-party sources with your suggestions. Third party sources are needed so the information can be verified and to establish the notability of the topic."

We thought that it may have been because we didn't have enough external references. So we added news items from third party sites. Even that didn't seem to help. Wiki still returned the same message (above).

How do we circumvent this? I find many articles that do not have any links embedded in them. Why is ours being treated differently? To establish notability, please see Wikipedia:Notability (organizations and companies). A quote from there: "A primary test of notability is whether people independent of the subject itself (or its manufacturer, creator, or vendor) have actually considered the company, corporation, product or service notable enough that they have written and published non-trivial, non-routine works that focus upon it."

The BCCL news item looks, to me, like independent coverage of the company, so that's a start. The "Company Facts" link confirms that the company exists but does not indicate that it is important in any way. Presumably that site has a page for every registered company in the region or market sector. The other news items seem to derive from press releases issued by the company itself, so do not establish any notability. -- John of Reading (talk) 08:44, 23 February 2011 (UTC)

• You need to add inline references to reliable sources that are independent of Intense Technologies, not external links[1] to press releases connected to Intense Technologies and websites that are not reliable sources. In general, you need to build the article from reliable sources, not write the article to say what you know about the company or want to convey about the company. You may be too close to Intense Technologies to develop an article that meets Wikipedia's content policy. Am I right to doubt fanfiction.net is a reliable source?

Can someone else please take a look at this edit. I strongly doubt the reference added is a reliable source and therefore should not be used in this context. I would normally revert this myself right away, but considering the extreme reaction I received from Archiver of Records (talk · contribs) last time I reverted one of his edits, I don't really want to provoke him into personally attacking me again if there is doubt about the source's reliability. The plot section doesn't need references and non-plot material -- (Benicio del Toro), the world-renowned Shakespearean actor-- should be located outside of the plot section. Chiropractic article

Dear Wikipedia,

I am a Chiropractic Student and your article has false information on it, it is misleading and does not explain what chiropractic really is. Why can we not edit the page? Do you mean the Chiropractic article? The article is under semi-protection due to persistent vandalism - presumably linked to efforts to remove mention of risks such as death which were referenced in reliable sources. Astronaut (talk) 09:47, 23 February 2011 (UTC)

You can post suggestions to Talk:Chiropractic but beware that it is one of the most discussed articles with around 10 MB talk archives. As a chiropractic student you may have a point of view which will not gain consensus on the talk page. PrimeHunter (talk) 13:32, 23 February 2011 (UTC)

With regard to this article, we would like to point out certain points the cited reference's are of dated sources and span over an extended time frame (>50yrs). While we agree that no from of intervention is completely free from complications, it would be unfair to single out Chiropractic as being a dangerous profession of technique. If the data is truly assessed, it will show a very low incidence rate of <0.001% over the total number of procedures conducted. If you can produce reliable sources which support what you are saying, then it should certainly be in the article. If it is controversial (i.e. opposing views exist and are also well-supported) then opposing views should also be discussed. Different views should not necessarily be given the same weight in the article: it depends how prevalent they are in the field. Only God can ordain ministers. If God has already placed the call to Christian service (ordination) in your life, there are a variety of organizations that will provide you with a certificate to recognize this. Template:ISSN

At the moment the link to Worldcat generated by {{ISSN}} is too specific. For example {{ISSN|0028-0836}} links to http://www.worldcat.org/issn/0028-0836 which is one hit for this ISSN. I would like someone to change it to http://www.worldcat.org/search?fq=x0%3Ajrnl&q=n2%3A0028-0836 which gives more hits. General Yakubu Gowon

Am a young man of 36years old, am sure to be a Nigerian but not sure of my state. I lost my dad two years ago but the unfortunate thing was that he did not complete the story be he died but from the little I know General Yakubu Gowon can be of great help. MY STORY : According to my Dad, my grand father was from a royal family from Ilorin in Kwara State to be specific from Alimi's Family then there was an issue of royal title concerning who will the next Emir of Ilorin then which my father claimed should be the turn of his dad but was turned down by then head of state General Yakubu Gowon as a result of this my Dad decided to disclaim Ilorin. Am only using this medium to plead with Yakubu Gowon to please assit me to locate my family from Alimi's family from Ilorin since my dad did not allow any of his children to associate with Ilorin though have been to Ilorin but that was before he told me the story.

How do I fix a broken link on an article

Hi,

I am trying to change a web link on the following page as it is broken, but do not know how to change it as there is no 'edit page' button at the top and your instructions on how to edit are unclear.

Setting up an account is good but not required. Wikipedia uses perhaps a bit unintuitive system where the link to the reference is introduced in the text, where there is the little number in the box that directs the user to the actual source, instead of the links being in the bottom where they're seen in reading mode. WP:REF has more instructions on citing sources. If you like, you can just drop the replacement link here and I'll add it to the article. Thanks for spotting the rotten link, by the way. How do I change fonts/font sizes?

when writing my article i am unable to change fonts or font sizes- e.g. when i click 'Bold' lettering all i get is something that looks like this (( Bold)) and when i go to type it is not bold but only the regular text. how do i get italics and bold lettering?

Which template for ambiguous references?

It's got a lot of ambiguous footnotes. I followed your suggestion and it led me to {{Citation style}} whioch seems to be what I wanted. (The article was Controversies involving Donald Bradman .) RJFJR (talk) 17:46, 23 February 2011 (UTC)

You can copy the relevant full references from Donald Bradman#References. It looks like Controversies involving Donald Bradman was split from Donald Bradman without copying the full references of the latter which uses WP:CITESHORT. PrimeHunter (talk) 18:01, 23 February 2011 (UTC)

I think I've taken care of it, could someone check to see if everything matches up and if so remove the template? Also, I couldn't find the Whimpress book in the list in the Donald Bradman page, but there is only one book on cricket by Whimpress alone mentioned on Wikipedia, so I put that one in. Difficulty printing Wikipedia articles

Recently, I've been finding that I can print out only the first page--no more--from any Wikipedia article in Printable Form. My Dell 922 printer and Internet browser behave normally with other print jobs, so does this sudden problem with Wikipedia mean that you've changed things at that end? 98.233.227.112 (talk) 17:10, 23 February 2011 (UTC)

Naming a page issue

Hello - I have a question about naming a page -

I'm writing a page on a person, and he is a "Jr." say Bob Smith, Jr. - so I first put the name in as Bob Smith, Jr. - but he get's listed under the "B" for Bob instead of "S" for Smith, so I tried the other way Smith, Jr. Bob, but then it makes it look like his name is Jr. Bob Smith - what is the proper way to handle this on the title and so that it pulls correctly with the last name Smith, Jr. and the first name Bob (in categories and such) Also - there is no middle name. Also, in some templates such as Template:WikiProject Biography, the |listas= "is the equivalent of the DEFAULTSORT sortkey that should be placed on all biographical articles, is a sortkey for the article talk page (e.g. for Elvis Presley, |listas=Presley, Elvis, so that the talk page will show up in the P's and not the E's of the various assessment and administrative categories). This is important because it is one source used by those who set DEFAULTSORT on the article; consider also setting the DEFAULTSORT for the article when setting this parameter. Using the sandbox to Autoconfirm 'fake' accounts

I have this idea. Can you make Wikipedia to where a person that uses the sandbox cannot be Autoconfirmed?

I used the sandbox and it Autoconfirms me.

So, if a vandal used the sandbox to Autoconfirm their account, they can vandalize protected pages. So, can you make edits to the sandbox not count?

I only want to see the Autoconfirmed ones make trusty edits, not 'test edits'.

Unfortunately, I don't believe there is a way for the software to do that. Autoconfirmation is easy enough to attain that making sandbox edits not count would probably not be a significant roadblock. TNXMan 18:14, 23 February 2011 (UTC)

Pronunciation

Hello Al. Template:MEast-royal-stub is the template in question, I have changed it for you. The easiest way to fix this yourself is to click "edit" and find the template in the section "Pages transcluded onto the current version of this page:" towards the bottom of the page, click the link there then edit the template as you would an article. Is Twinkle malfunctioning or is just me?

For the past few hours I have had difficulty with the Twinkle tools. Everything from Rollback, Welcoming new Users, and warning Users seems to not be working for me. I only use Twinkle while using "Safari". I tested my Rollback using internet explorer at my sand box and it worked fine that way, but when using Safari it either gives me error warnings, or when I am trying to add a template to a user talk page, the page just won't accept the edit. Is there something going on with twinkle, or is it just me. If it is me, is there someone who can fix it for me?--Jojhutton (talk) 21:34, 23 February 2011 (UTC)

Fixing Page

Need explicit directions to correct error. Was attempting to add a photograph and inadvertently deleted something. Now page will not image content. When I go to edit, content still there. Fixed. Just below this note, I'll leave some standard advice on images.

• If you want to add an existing image to an article, add [[File:File name.jpg|thumb|Caption text.]] to the area of the article where you want the image to appear – replacing File name.jpg with the actual file name of the image, and Caption text with a short description of the image. See our picture tutorial for more information.
• If you want to upload an image from your computer for use in an article, you must determine the proper license of the image (or whether it is in the public domain). If you know the image is public domain or copyrighted but under a suitable free-license, upload it to the Wikimedia Commons instead of here, so that all projects have access to the image (sign up).
