 – A TFA has been selected.  Chzz  ►  07:17, 26 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I have a link on my user page for "Tomorrow's featured article" (double-squiggly-open FA-tomorrow double-squiggly-close), but it went red a few days ago. Anybody know what's up with that? Thanks -- Jo3sampl (talk) 01:07, 26 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

It hasn't been chosen yet. See Wikipedia:Today's featured article/November 2011. Perhaps Raul is still digesting his Thanksgiving turkey. I've not seen it happen where we have no FA for the next few days already picked, but Raul and his crew of merry helpers still have 23 hours or so to get one picked. --Jayron32 01:10, 26 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Ah--that makes sense. Thanks. -- Jo3sampl (talk) 01:42, 26 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
The situation was actually a bit more critical than that.[1] See Talk:Main Page#No TFA today? PrimeHunter (talk) 02:10, 26 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I would like this article to be deleted, because I don't think Unicorns in Dungeons and Dragons are any different to regular unicorns and the rest of the information in the article is just fanbabble, but I can't because I can't create a sub-page on the deletion requests page. Could someone do it for me ? Thanks. --86.6.32.228 (talk) 11:03, 26 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

A lot of similar articles were kept at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Dungeons & Dragons creatures so I don't personally want to nominate it for deletion. It's free and easy to create an account and it has many benefits. One of them is being able to create pages. PrimeHunter (talk) 13:32, 26 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Deinosuchus skull reconstruction

edit

Hi,

There is a problem with this part. Once the skull is to broad, and than it is not enough broad. Someone please explain.

The American Museum of Natural History incorporated the skull and jaw fragments into a plaster restoration, modeled after the present-day Cuban crocodile.[7] Colbert and Bird stated that this was a "conservative" reconstruction, since an even greater length could have been obtained if a long-skulled modern species such as the saltwater crocodile had been used as the template.[7] Because it was not then known that Deinosuchus had a broad snout, Colbert and Bird miscalculated the proportions of the skull, and the reconstruction greatly exaggerated its overall width and length.[11] Despite its inaccuracies, the reconstructed skull became the best-known specimen of Deinosuchus, and brought public attention to this giant crocodilian for the first time.[11] — Preceding unsigned comment added by 92.84.199.195 (talk) 12:07, 26 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Peter Hellier vs Rove Mc Mannus

edit

Pictures indicate it is the same person - but birth dates differ - looks like some of the fact(s) are a bit out of kilter 24.42.188.243 (talk) 12:31, 26 November 2011 (UTC) C Murphy Ink24.42.188.243 (talk) 12:31, 26 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Which Rove Mc Mannus picture are you referring to? Peter Helliar has a picture which seems correct to me based on external sources. Rove McManus has no picture in his Wikipedia biography. The external sources I looked at, for example http://www.rovedaily.com.au/, have pictures which don't look like Peter Helliar. PrimeHunter (talk) 12:51, 26 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Connecting character name with actor/actress to also make list at bottom of article & to link actor actress to other accomplishments in their life.

edit

Connecting character name with actor/actress to also make list at bottom of article & to link actor actress to other accomplishments in their life. How do I do this when I edit? I tried to make "The Five People You Meet in Heaven" by Mitch Albom better. I'm not familiar with your program. Thanks, Tnboyce7184.17.217.205 (talk) 02:39, 26 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not completely sure what you mean but the accomplishments of an actor should be in an article about the actor and not be repeated in each article about things they have participated in. Instead those articles can make a link to the actor's biography. For example, The Five People You Meet in Heaven#Film has a link to Jon Voight which contains a filmography. This is the appropriate way to do it. PrimeHunter (talk) 13:09, 26 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
What Tnboyce7 has done is to make changes to the text of the article about the book - I have no idea whether the changes are accurate or not, but the grammar and spelling in them is poor - and add in parentheses after the name of each character the name of the actor who played them in the TV adaptation. That's not the way to do it. What should be done (as there is no separate article on the TV adaptation) is to expand the part of the article which deals with the TV movie, by adding the names of the actors in it. The article is primarily about the book not the TV movie, so it's inappropriate to include the actors' names in parentheses in the main text. The best way forward in this case seems to me to revert the changes the IP made, and they can start again - hopefully, checking grammar and spelling as they go. Soaked

dear wikipedia, i am trying to edit "Soaked" article but i end up with the "RollerCoaster Tycoon 3" when i want to go to "Soaked" link.

Soaked is a synth pop band from Istanbul,TR. We compose our own songs in English, we have two albums and we act at international tours.

You can find short brief about us here;

The origins of synth-pop group Soaked date back as far as 2003, though it came into being as an active band just two years ago in 2009. Consisting of singer/songwriter Balamir Nazlıca, keyboardist and back vocalist Hatice Arıcı, guitarist Emrah Akar, and drummer Emir Celt, this up-and-coming band has made an EP (2010’s Into the Light) and plans to release its first album in December of this year. The group has performed at many of Istanbul’s established live music venues (Ghetto, Indigo, Otto) as well as at the 2009 Efes Pilsen One Love Festival. Soaked is also an art collective in addition to a live band, and its videos (directed by Akar) are noted for their accomplished visual technique. (Soaked’s artwork can be seen on its website, www.soakedart.com).

So, i'd appriciate a recommendation about what should my next step be...

Yours sincerely

Soaked is a redirect but see Wikipedia:Notability (music), Wikipedia:Up and coming next big thing and Wikipedia:Conflict of interest. It would not be appropriate to make a Wikipedia article about your band but if you get a breakthrough then maybe somebody else will write an article. Good luck. about a page redirect

edit

just wanted to get a wiki editors advice . if its correct to create an auto redirect of PAF,paf to Pakistan Air Force. the auto redirect was created by a pakistani editor(so it might be the most relevant PAF for him) but i see no reason to ignore other PAFs as mentioned in PAF (disambiguation). I think its correct to redirect PAF,paf to PAF (disambiguation). Please point out if i am wrong and suggest . thanks --ÐℬigXЯaɣ 14:26, 26 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

It seems like it is the dominant use of the term, though, much like RCAF redirects to Royal Canadian Air Force and USAF to United States Air Force. There is a hatnote on top of the target article that says "PAF" redirects here. For other uses, see PAF (disambiguation)", which is consistent with other articles. Is there evidence that at least one other PAF is as significant as the Pakistani Air Force? CharlieEchoTango (talk) 14:29, 26 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Rate this page box

edit

I would like to see the rate this page box have a place for questions that need answering in an article.

Example

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pensions_in_Chile

States in part:

The worker can choose one of six private pension administrators and change at will and also choose from among five funds (A to E, with A being the riskiest).

I might want to ask the question from a knowledgeable editor:

What are those fund styles and what are their ROI history?

This could be done with a small text window akin to Facebook comments or a Twitter style message. It need not be verbose.

This proposed feedback loop is global to Wikipedia.

The type of feedback and questions you want to post belong on the article's talk page - click on the "Discussion" tab near the top of the page. Roger (talk) 16:41, 28 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

What makes a user a member of a WikiProject?

edit

I apologise for a silly question about a thing I ought to know already, but is there something with it when a user formally joins WikiProject "X" except for his/her simply indicating to the general public that the topic "X" is among the fields of his/her interest and he/she is likely to spend more time editing content related to the topic "X" than editing content related to some other topics? What will be my benefits if I choose to add my username to the list of members of some WikiProject, and keep my current editing habits (that is, I seldom make more than a few edits within a day)? --Theurgist (talk) 16:19, 26 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Not much. Your talk page may get notifications of events, but those will be in the Project's talk page which you've presumably watchlisted anyway. Mostly you just make others aware of your interest in the topic. Jim.henderson (talk) 16:25, 26 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Another benefit is collaboration. Through the discussion page of the WikiProject, you can ask for help with your own project, or respond to requests for help by other editors. The discussion pages are good places to ask about sources as the other members will have valuable input on sources within that topic. The Interior (Talk) 17:11, 26 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Yep, collaboration is arguably the greatest benefits of WikiProjects. Even if you don't add your name to members of a WikiProject, keeping the projects you're interested in in your watchlist keeps you "in the loop" as to the latest issues and discussions in convention. You're not obligated to join in of course; your interest and the fact that you work mostly on articles falling under the WikiProject's scope is more than enough. Other than that, joining WikiProjects and using the userboxes they provide is mostly for the benefit of other editors, so they can see what areas you are most likely to be active in.-- Obsidin Soul 18:15, 26 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. I'm having trouble writing the lead for List of municipalities in Rio Grande do Norte. URGENT

edit

Hello,

I've recently created an article about Mr. Bassem Christo's biography, a very renowned TV director in the middle east. Wikipedians are asking me to put references and links, but my only reference is Mr Christo himself, i work with him, and the whole biography is based on information he personnaly gave me, and the only link i have is his fan page on facebook where he personally observes and watches wall posts and others. I hope you could read the biography and check how rich it is, so that you know he is an important figure in the TV industry and that this is no joke

Thank you, Zeina Farah — Preceding unsigned comment added by Bassemchristo (talkcontribs) 21:58, 26 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Original research is not allowed in Wikipedia. If there are no published reliable sources to demonstrate his notability, the biography cannot be published on Wikipedia. - David Biddulph (talk) 22:22, 26 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Maybe a TV industry publication in the mideast has published an article on him. If not, that might be your first next step. Entwhiz (talk) 12:02, 27 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Showing archives

edit

How do I get the archives to show at WP:BLPN?--Bbb23 (talk) 22:03, 26 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not sure exactly what you want. I see you linked an archive [2] right before posting here. If you want to transclude a specific section such as Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons/Noticeboard/Archive138#Tahir Abbas then it's not possible without adding special code to the archive, but it generally shouldn't be done. PrimeHunter (talk) 23:02, 26 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
You can search the archives, but there is no list of the archives (numbered links) on the page itself. There isn't one here, either, but there is such a thing on WP:ANI, for example. The problem I had when I linked to an archive was it was the latest archive and didn't come up in a search, but I didn't know what the number of the latest archive was, so I kept changing the URL until I found it (tedious) - perhaps there was a better way to find it, even in the absence of a list, but I'm not aware of it.--Bbb23 (talk) 23:12, 26 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
WP:BLPN says: "All archives are linked from this page". Note that "this page" is a link. I can find the most recent archive by searching something in it in the search box at WP:BLPN. PrimeHunter (talk) 23:47, 26 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I didn't see that "this page" was a link. Thanks.--Bbb23 (talk) 23:54, 26 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
