editWriting an article about a project I am working on
editHello. Is there a specific page of information about writing/editing articles about things that you yourself are working on? Not articles about *you* per say - I've seen the autobiography page.
Specifically I'm wondering about sourcing information. So let's say I add a piece of information that I do not cite. I know that's against the rules - but because it's *me*, the guy working on the project, that added the information, does it get any special treatment from being "straight from the horses' mouth"?. - If you haven't already read it, see Wikipedia:Starting an article. It is highly unlikely that an article about 'something you yourself are working on' would meet Wikipedia notability standards (It would at minimum have to have been discussed by published third-party reliable sources). In the unlikely event that it met our notability requirements, you would still be unable to 'cite yourself', except where this was published elsewhere. If you are doing original research, Wikipedia isn't an appropriate place to write about it. If you are looking for a site that might possibly accept such material, try Wikiversity - though whether your material is acceptable there will depend on what it is you are researching, amongst other things. - Wikipedia is completely a volunteer effort. Every one of our 6,911,853 articles was written by a person who was interested enough in some subject to sit down and write about it. Since the Journal appears to be notable, the fact that there is no article just means no one has yet been motivated enough to start it. You could try requesting that the article be created at Wikipedia:Requested articles/Applied arts and sciences#Engineering.--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 03:33, 18 October 2011 (UTC)

- Hello and welcome to Wikipedia. If I understand your question correctly, you are asking if we can add The Gateway Polytechnic Saapade to some sort of directory. Wikipedia is not a directory. Custer hit
editCurly's recap of the fight said he saw Custer take a mortal wound but not from where.I've see Custer's white buckskin coat and over the left side of Custer's heart is a patch covering an Army-issued Colt .44 caliber or Springfield carbine .65 caliber bullet hole.The patch is too big to be covering a hole from an arrow or Indian's rifle even if they could get close enough to hit him there and Curly swore there was troopers' unbelievable fire that kept the Indians back and moving to fast to get off a shot.So there's a valid question;who shot Custer,a trooper,or was it suicide to go down in glory? How to provide an external link if the URL has "["?

The article has been rejected for "unsourced suggestions or sources that are not reliable per the verifiability policy". After having read the "Wikipedia:Identifying reliable sources" page it is still not clear to me which of the cited sources are not reliable and why. Could you please explain it in detail ? I'm posting here because I didn't find a way to contact the first reviewer. I tried to ask for a second review at Wikipedia:Requests_for_feedback/2011_October_7: no reply. - The problem is that Wikipedia needs reliable and independent sources and you only provided references which are reliable, but not independent. Please try to find some (online/offline) newspaper articles, (online/offline) magazine articles, (online/offline) books, etc. about this person. Please reas also WP:PROF. - (Edit Conflict - need to type quicker) Best I can do is run through the sources as they're shown at the moment. Source #1 is the subject's bio page at the university. This is fine to confirm that the person is indeed a professor, or that she does work there, but doesn't show how the person is Notable. I mean, everyone who works there gets such a page, yes? It does not make them notable. OK, so source #2 is a page describing the Soknopaiou Nesos Project. The page linked (after you select a language) does not actually mention the subject at all. Source #3 is a similar description of some of the excavations at Amheida, but again the source does not mention the subject of the article. Source #4 is a list of the articles and other publications by the subject, hosted at the university's website (the same one as source #1). Again, this is good to confirm that she wrote things, but not necessarily to show that she is notable. The concern from source #1 applies here, as well; everyone who works there and has published would have such a page. If the works themselves are notable, you can cite them directly (and there are formats for that).
- Your best bet here is to find news articles or journals that discuss the subject or her work, and do so in such a way as to show that she is notable. The sources present don't do that. Files for Deletion
editThe Files for deletion page requests that the uploader be notified by adding:
{{subst:fdw|File_name.ext}}
to their talk page. But instead of doing anything useful, it just appears as:
"{{subst:fdw|File_name.ext}}"

- If you add material to Wikipedia, especially in mathematics, you need to cite independent reliable sources that support your addition. Wikipedia does not accept original research. TNXMan 16:34, 18 October 2011 (UTC)
Can't see images.
editI can't see the pictures on any of the wikipedia pages. Pictures are visible on all other webpages. I have the newest JAVA and ADOBE products. Any ideas?

cant edit david beckhams' internet external links section
edithi, i am trying to edit david beckhams' internet external links section, at which link 31 is inactive and i would like to add the correct link. when hitting "edit" all i get is '===Internet=='reflist|colwidth=30em}}'
how can i edit that section?

Wikipedia content displaying on Facebook
editI noticed that the organization I work for has a Wikipedia page and also has a Facebook page with content which states "From Wikipedia". My question how can I find out who created (or who administers) the Facebook page? Is that something Wikipedia or Facebook does automatically? I've recently been put in charge of administering our presence on Facebook and I cannot determine who is administering the Facebook page (if anyone). My article was not accepted

My article was not accepted due to citation of third party sources. Can you explain what a third party source is? I'm assuming it's a quote from another person on a secondary source??? Also, I sent copyright permissions to permissions-en to accompany the article. How do I know these were used to review the article. Nturnerjj (talk) 20:44, 18 October 2011 (UTC)

Children's version of Wikipedia?
editI could swear during one of my readings of articles in Wikipedia that I came across a modified science article that was written in simpler language somewhere. I got the impression that there is a section in Wikipedia that is like that. Is that not true? I have been unable to locate that section again. Thanks. - There is a Simple English Wikipedia at http://simple.wikipedia.org. Some science topics have a more accessible version here at the normal English Wikipedia, but it varies. PrimeHunter (talk) 21:06, 18 October 2011 (UTC)
- Some articles here at the normal English Wikipedia include a link saying "Simple English" under "Languages" in the left pane, for example General relativity which has both this and a link to the more accessible Introduction to general relativity which is still at the normal English Wikipedia. Talk Page tagging
editI recently created a WikiProject task force, and I need help with tagging. When I put {{WikiProject Football|class=FA|Importance=Top |national-teams-task-force = yes }} it doesn't work, even though I typed the code. - You'll need to have Template:WikiProject Football edited for you; so far you have only edited the documentation page. This is a fully-protected template so you'll have to request the edit at Template talk:WikiProject Football. Editing a New Article

I just created an article called "Leonard Beckum" my advisor at Stanford. So I made it, but am having trouble adding a reference. I also cannot capitalize his last name in the tile of the article. I have tried a bunch of combos to add references but cannot seem to figure it out. Please help. - I fixed it. You should read the how to's on doing things. The basic things are when you hit edit, and there is a button that says help that teaches the basics. You should also read this page and this page. Also, on talk pages hit the four tildes button on the bottom that says "Sign your posts on talk pages:" It automatically puts your signature. Changing the web address title of my page

- The article itself is at the correct Leonard Beckum page. If you are using the redirect with the old title, Leonard beckum, then the Web address in your browser will display the name of the redirect, thus "Leonard_beckum" in this case.
