Discussion page redirects to the wrong page

Currently, clicking the link for the discussion page for the ABC Family show The Lying Game brings you to the discussion page for the CSI: NY episode titled The Lying Game. How can I change the discussion page link? Rioux15 (talk) 05:39, 29 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I've removed the redirect, and replaced it with a note that the page previously there had been moved. - David Biddulph (talk) 05:47, 29 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, i would like to edit my "username"

edit

Hi All,

I would like to request a minor correction on my username. Instead of Daryltanael, i would like to change it to DarylTanael, with the capital T.

Thanks, — Preceding unsigned comment added by Daryltanael (talkcontribs) 06:40, 29 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Try Wikipedia:Changing username/Simple. - David Biddulph (talk) 06:42, 29 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
By the way, spaces are also allowed if you want that. PrimeHunter (talk) 13:31, 29 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Rather then request a name change, you could create a custom signature that displays the name differently. – ukexpat (talk) 14:01, 29 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Citation template for citing forum posts

edit

Is there a citation template to cite forum posts? I looked through WP:CT but none of those templates seems to be appropriate. I could use {{Cite web}}, but I hoped there might be a more specific template for this case. Toshio Yamaguchi (talk) 12:04, 29 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

A forum post is not likely to be considered a reliable source; see WP:USERG. ---— Gadget850 (Ed) talk 12:25, 29 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I want to use that forum post to support information cited to a book. The forum post is by a person who was directly involved in what the book is discussing. Toshio Yamaguchi (talk) 12:33, 29 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Still not a reliable source. For example, how do you know that the poster on the forum is who they say they are? – ukexpat (talk) 14:04, 29 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Article not appearing on Wikipedia

edit

Hi All, I'm trying to submit an article entitled 'Pain in invertebrates'. I've saved it on several occasions and a box appears saying that it is a new, unreviewed article, but I cannot see the article when I search for it. Is this article being reviewed before being posted? I found a page on Wikipedia which lists submissions and their current status, but I cannot locate this page now. Any help will be much appreciated. — Preceding unsigned comment added by DrChrissy (talkcontribs) 12:09, 29 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I see that you started an article, User:DrChrissy/Pain in animals, in you userspace, but I don't see anything you started, Pain in invertebrates. None of your edits have been deleted either. GB fan 12:18, 29 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the quick reply. So how do I get the article from my userspace to be an article everyone can see? Sorry for being so thick about his! — Preceding unsigned comment added by DrChrissy (talkcontribs) 12:21, 29 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

It is not a problem, what would you like the article to be named? GB fan 12:38, 29 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

'Pain in Invertebrates' please. Many thanks for your help. — Preceding unsigned comment added by DrChrissy (talkcontribs) 12:40, 29 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

OK, I moved it for you. GB fan 12:43, 29 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Many thanks - have a great day. — Preceding unsigned comment added by DrChrissy (talkcontribs) 12:48, 29 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

No file by this name exists.

edit

I've detected something odd on the page http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/EAGLE , on the right side of this page are two pictures (mentioned in the text). When I double click the top one (File:Eagle Schematic Editor.png) to get a bigger image of it that works as expected, but trying the same on the bottom one (File:Eagle Layout Editor.png) I get a page with this message:

File:Eagle Layout Editor.png From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia No file by this name exists. File links The following pages on the English Wikipedia link to this file (pages on other projects are not listed): Eagle (program)

The last line above is a link, using that results in the original page but without the second picture, even though it is still mentioned in the text !

Can someone please restore this image, because it is relevant to the article ? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 84.85.143.147 (talk) 12:46, 29 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Header toolbar links, .css, etc.

Is there something I can put in my vector.css to add an additional link in between "My watchlist" and "My contributions" up at the top? And if so, it wouldn't be a problem using an interwiki link, would it? Thanks —Akrabbimtalk 13:50, 29 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Not at all. Though you would put it in your vector.js page, not css. I believe this should do it:
addOnloadHook( function() {
    addPortletLink( 'p-personal', "http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:Random/File", 'Random File', 'pt-randomfile', 'Link to a random file on Commons', 'A', document.getElementById("pt-mycontris"));
});
You can change the "Random File" part to say whatever you want, of course. Avicennasis @ 15:20, 1 Tishrei 5772 / 15:20, 29 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Adding the citation / blocked by crazy editor

edit

Napa County, California (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

Good morning,

I am CTB500. I submitted on two occasions the citation needed for the "Napa County" wikipedia page under history. The "onewhohelps" guy pulled the citation on two occasions and reported "vandalism." I find this "contributor" as blocking the necessary citation for the "History" paragraph that explains the Italian migration and settlement of Napa County. Also, this "editor" has determined that I am a GROUP - not an individual - and shows unfair judgement.

Please advise to we may move forward fairly. The citiation is needed.

Also, I do not appreciate (as you) threats of being blocked for simply improving wikipedia.

What is you SF address? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ctb500 (talkcontribs) 16:12, 29 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I think there may have been some confusion over two different edits made by you - I'll ask User:Onewhohelps to clarify this. AndyTheGrump (talk) 16:28, 29 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I see that you have opened a discussion on User talk:Onewhohelps. Why don't you wait until they respond? This may be a misunderstanding that is easily resolved by communicating. – ukexpat (talk) 16:29, 29 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Note: the OP is currently blocked due to their username. Singularity42 (talk) 16:32, 29 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

This looks like a severe case of not assuming good faith. I don't see any connection with the CTB draft given in his user page and his Napa Valley edits. There is no "blatant promotion or advertising." —Akrabbimtalk 16:35, 29 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

CTB's userpage was a shameless advertisement for something called "Community Team Builders"; that was the promotional plug that made me give them a spamuserblock rather than just a softerblock. --Orange Mike | Talk 16:40, 29 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
It should be noted that the articles on Napa city and county both contain a big fat swath of text about a certain era of Napa-area history, with a peculiarly idiosyncratic overuse of scare quotes around ordinary wording that is so very distinctive as to lead me to suspect a cut-and-paste from somewhere; possibly the cited history. --Orange Mike | Talk 16:44, 29 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
He was making good faith edits unrelated to the team builders subject. He didn't write any of the other Napa text, he was just adding a citation. His question above implies that he wasn't yet familiar with the subtleties of username policies yet, but we still just block immediately instead of explaining and seeing if they'll come in line? Talk about WP:BITE. —Akrabbimtalk 16:49, 29 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Agree. Jeez. At the very least, tell them about WP:CHU instead of a block from nowhere.-- Obsidin Soul
Okay, I changed from a spamuserblock to a milder causeblock, per your suggestion; but as I said, the now-deleted userpage was really a pretty shameless pitch. --Orange Mike | Talk 19:46, 29 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Hi,

I have looked at the edits again. I think it was more spamming than anything else. I identified some spamming in Huggle, plus it had already said that he had been warned, I checked and the warning was from a user rather than a bot so I reverted the edit and warned.

There was 1 and 2 plus the other's you mentioned were vandalism.

The person that I mentioned who reverted it was User:Calabe1992.

Thanks. :) --Onewhohelps (talk) 16:44, 29 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I've also removed the warnings for vandalism. --Onewhohelps (talk) 17:03, 29 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, on my user page I made a summary page of my edits, and I used a table. However, when I press edit, it is the proper section, but when it is viewed it isn't in the right section. Any help? Bar Code Symmetry (Talk) 18:00, 29 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Henry Alden Clark

On the page that contains information about Henry Alden Clark - when you click on the link for the Biographical Directory of the US Congress instead of Henry's page coming up, a page for Joseph Mosley Room comes up. WP:OUTING

edit

Hello, I was unaware of WP:OUTING and may have outed another user. Could someone verify if it is indeed a problem and if necessary remove the identifying information. Many thanks. pgr94 (talk) 20:39, 29 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I would contact the affected user directly, and if necessary, bring it up at WP:Requests for oversight. —Akrabbimtalk 21:05, 29 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
For a start, why don't you just edit your comment to remove it, if you are concerned?
You also could try to email that user. If you need further advise about it, I suggest you email the oversight team, oversight-en-wp wikipedia.org.
It's best to keep discussion off-wiki, because discussing it can make the problem worse; for that reason, I removed the specific link. Cheers,  Chzz  ►  04:58, 30 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you both. I haven't been approached by the user in question so I'll just let sleeping dogs lie. pgr94 (talk) 17:11, 30 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

In correct information with reference to the Page on Mr. Salman Bashir

edit

Dear Wikipedia, Information related to Mr. Salman Bashir is incorrect:

(1)It says on the page that he is currently serving as the "Minister of State", Kindly note that Mr. Bashir is currently serving as the "Foreign Secretary" of Pakistan. (This can be verified at the Offical government website: http://www.mofa.gov.pk/mfa/pages/article.aspx?id=21&type=4)

(2)Mr. Bashir is currently actively serving in office and has not been Succeeded by Ahmed Poria.

I hope the above may be corrected.

Thank You. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 58.65.142.162 (talk) 21:43, 29 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

There appear to have been a number of unsourced edits by a user who has subsequently been blocked as a sockpuppet. I have reverted three of those edits which seem to contradict the available sources. - David Biddulph (talk) 22:37, 29 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

National Atheist Party Article

edit

I have spent three hours trying to find this article, then spent time trying to find the deletion log. I can not find anything. Help. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.109.42.77 (talk) 22:33, 29 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

In addition, the deletion log entry is here. It is case sensitive, which is my best guess as to why you had a problem locating the entry.--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 22:57, 29 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Linking images from a translated page

edit

Hi, I just translated a page which I had created over a year ago from English into German and it can be found here Can anybody tell me why the images from the English wiki page for Siegfried L. Kratochwil are not working on the translated page? I referenced the same file name since the images have been uploaded to wiki Commons. Thank you for you help!Aryanassadi (talk) 15:34, 29 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The image does not show up on the german page because the file has been uploaded to the english Wikipedia. The file either needs to be uploaded to the german Wikipedia as well or to Wikimedia Commons to be usable there. Toshio Yamaguchi (talk) 22:51, 29 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
The link above to the German version doesn't seem to work; presumably de:Siegfried_L._Kratochwil or here? - David Biddulph (talk) 22:54, 29 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
