editFairy tales.
editThere is a nice bunch of authors creating articles based upon fairy tales written in the 19th century, at least twenty of them. I think these people need a bit of guidence and tidying up. Some of the articles are here on User_talk:Clevermammoth
The Devoted Friend, The Prince's Dream

- I looked at The Heart of Princess Joan noted above under Stories of Mary de Morgan and it seems well referenced. Can you be more specific as to what guidence the Heart of Princess Joan editors need and what tidying up the Heart of Princess Joan article needs? -- Uzma Gamal (talk) 14:10, 16 February 2013 (UTC)
Nuru
editHi, I would like to amend the content of this page: Nuru (massage). All my corrections have been deleted. Here are the explanations:
1. Nuru is a brand for a massage gel and not a massage technique. Active registration: https://www.swissreg.ch/srclient/faces/jsp/trademark/sr30.jsp
2. The word does NOT originates from the Japanese language and does NOT mean slippery: http://translate.google.com/#ja/en/nuru
3. Nuru is not a massage oil. It is a brand for a massage GEL. Oil is better for massaging purposes and keeps your skin greasy. Gel is easily washable and not so good for massage purposes.
4. External Links: The indicated link is pure commercial and should not be in an encyclopedia. These people abuse our brand. Please cancel it.
Conclusion: Please amend the content or delete the whole topic. Thanks. Adrianme (talk) 01:44, 16 February 2013 (UTC)
- It looks like you are attempting to use Wikiepedia to promote your product, the gel, which just happens to have the same name as the technique, and that is not permitted. You may very well own a trademark registration for your product in a particular class or classes of goods but that does not give you any rights over the generic term. In any event the article does not have a single reference and only a single external link of dubious usefulness, so unless references can be found it is probably heading for deletion.--ukexpat (talk) 02:16, 16 February 2013 (UTC)
- Don't engage in an edit war. If an editor reverts your changes, don't put it back. Instead, discuss it on the article's talk page. See WP:BRD. You've already been given explanations on why your changes were undone on your talk page. RudolfRed (talk) 02:39, 16 February 2013 (UTC)
- The article now is at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Nuru (massage). -- Uzma Gamal (talk) 14:02, 16 February 2013 (UTC)

Did I do this move correctly?
editThere was an article, The psychology of film. A student blanked the page, wrote some new notes, and then moved the article to Dual-route hypothesis to reading. I discovered this, restored the version that existed before blanking, but discovered that the move was not undone. I tried to undo the move, failed, and manually moved the article back to The psychology of film. Now Dual-route hypothesis to reading had got an automatic redirect to The psychology of film which I erased and replaced by a sentence. I also wiped out the redirect of the talk page. Now I know that moving pages can be a bit tricky, so my question is, is everything as it should be or are there things left to be fixed? (Next time I'll undo the move before I revert to a previous version...) Lova Falk talk 10:51, 16 February 2013 (UTC)
- You have restored The psychology of film correctly, as far as I can tell. I suggest you tag Dual-route hypothesis to reading with db-author so that Edienicol (talk · contribs) can start from scratch. -- John of Reading (talk) 11:05, 16 February 2013 (UTC)

Karen Harup
editThis:
"Death
On July 19, 2009, a Toyota Prius crashed through Harup's bedroom wall, hitting her and sending her flying out into the street, where she was run over twelve times. She was pronounced dead on the scene.[1]"
on the page Karen Harup#cite note-politiken.dk-1 is something of a mystery to me, since my mother died in a hospital bed after a stroke.
Is it possible for someone to delete the chapter?
Best regards and thanks,

Joe Paterno page
editPlease consider changing the content of is page. It is based on the Freeh report which basically was a PSU Board of Trustees' attempt to buy a scapegoat. Please consider adding a more relevant report "The Paterno Report" produced by Dick Thornberg and individuals like Clemente who have prepared a report more substantial than Freeh's slanderous fit against Joe Paterno. I appreciate the fight for justice and not where money can place blame. Thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.92.92.66 (talk) 16:00, 16 February 2013 (UTC)
- The best place to make this request is here. Chances are nobody here at the help desk is very familiar with the details of these different reports and so it's hard for us to make a good determination regarding their relative reliability. The other editors at the Joe Paterno talk page will be much more familiar with the topic and can help you make appropriate changes to the article. Good luck. -Thibbs (talk) 23:28, 16 February 2013 (UTC)
- 72.92.92.66, Wikipedia articles must never take sides. Article content is required to be completely neutral, reliably-sourced, and worthy of inclusion. Also, articles must give due weight to different sides of contentious issues. Therefore, your clearly biased views on the Paterno issue have no place in the article. For the record, the article includes content about his family's investigative rebuttal to the Freeh report. However, it certainly can be expanded. --76.189.111.199 (talk) 23:50, 16 February 2013 (UTC)
- The help desk is supposed to be a place where questions about how to use Wikipedia are answered. But this is turning into a discussion about the content of an article. That discussion belongs at Talk:Joe Paterno. -Thibbs (talk) 00:05, 17 February 2013 (UTC)
- The IP's request (to change the article's content) was properly addressed to explain where s/he can discuss the matter and how articles are to be edited. Therefore, there's nothing more to be done here. --76.189.111.199 (talk) 00:16, 17 February 2013 (UTC)

Normandy, Missouri
editWhy can't I get my photo, "Glen Echo Country Club", to appear on the Normandy, Missouri page? ThanksBridgian (talk) 16:42, 16 February 2013 (UTC)
- Hi Bridgian. You have to be very technical when using computer code to use the exact name of things because close just doesn't work. Here, you left off the file extension (.jpg) which is part of the image's name. It's fixed now. Best regards--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 17:02, 16 February 2013 (UTC)
Please add ROBERT COTTINGHAM as a notable people of NEWTOWN CT.
editHi there, I grew up in Newtwon CT. and after looking up the info written about Newtown on Wikipedia, I noticed under the "Notable people" section, that the list is missing Robert Cottingham (who happens to be my dad).
There is a wikipedia page written for him which explains "He is considered to be one of most important original Photorealist painters." Robert Cottingam and my mom Jane Cottingahm have lived in Newtown Connecticut for over 35 yeas. They still live on the same property...Blackman Farm (founded in 1758). Some of the barns are converted into studios. Robert is still an active painter and is very much an influence in the art world today.

Information about an article meeting the notability guidelines for wikipedia
editHello thanks for your help, I see that the picture I donated has shown up on the wiki article I am writing you about. I work for the company that represents Oryn the Rebel the american rapper out of Boston, it says that his article is an orphan and may not fit the music guidelines I would like to introduce articles that prove some of the musical accomplishments written about in the article Oryn the Rebel here is a link to the record "Underground heat volume one" http://www.rarehiphop.com/mixtapes_details.php?id=1 Oryn the Rebel produced this record along with Grand Master Caz 1 featuring artist such as Freeway 2 on number 14 and artist Shock G 3 on number 18 of the Underground heat volume one mixtape. Please note that Oryn the Rebel is also known as Oryn the rebel, O-ry-n, O-ry-n the rebel, and oryntherebel his other records can be found at the following links http://www.icuentertainment.net/#!oryn-the-rebel/crkr http://soundcloud.com/oryn http://www.last.fm/music/oryn+the+rebel http://www.datpiff.com/Oryn-the-rebel-The-Best-Of-A-Rebel-mixtape.361533.html https://itunes.apple.com/dk/artist/oryn-the-rebel/id473529967
please let me know if this is sufficient to prove the musical accomplishments of Oryn the Rebel and have the article removed from orphan status and or have it meet the musical guidelines of Wikipedia thank you for your help173.48.241.46 (talk) 19:23, 16 February 2013 (UTC)
- To "de-orphan" an article all you need to do it to create incoming links from other pages. That is, you need to edit other pages and create a link from them to the orphan article. This link will show what articles are currently linked to Oryn the Rebel. As long as there is a minimum of one incoming link from another actual article, you can simply remove the "orphan" tag at the top.
- To establish notability is a bit more difficult. You'll need to provide multiple "reliable sources" that discuss him and include them in the article. Right now I see a New York Times link and that's a good start. You'll need more of these high quality sources to establish that the subject of the article is notable. The notability and orphan tags at the top of the page at Oryn the Rebel have important links inside them that can help you understand how to provide proper sources. -Thibbs (talk) 23:22, 16 February 2013 (UTC)
Category German murderers of children
editI've added the category to the articles of Helmut Kunz and Ludwig Stumpfegger, Hitler's personal dentist and surgeon respectively. I know that some oppose it. I ask here to open the discussion. Whether or not it's appropriate. Kotjap (talk) 19:52, 16 February 2013 (UTC)
- Hi Kotjap, I think I remember you from somewhere! Thank you for being willing to discuss this. However, the better place to discuss it is probably on the talk pages of the two articles concerned. If discussion there is unfruitful, perhaps get a WP:3O or have a WP:RFC on those talk pages. --Demiurge1000 (talk) 20:48, 16 February 2013 (UTC)
Banda (opera)
edit(Also posted on Talk:Rigoletto)
Rigoletto#Instrumentation includes "banda", with a redlink to Banda (opera). I've just been looking for what is meant. "Banda" is Italian for
- Band (in all senses); banner; company, crew. — civica, municipal band.
- (Cassell's Italian Dictionary, 1967)
I have started a draft article, Thnidu/Banda (opera), which so far is barely even a stub but does have one offhand reference. I would appreciate any elaboration, especially by someone who knows the territory.
I have been looking for a more exact forum to post this in but without any success. List of musical ensemble formats looked promising but is minimal.
--Thnidu (talk) 20:55, 16 February 2013 (UTC)
- The the finale of the 1812 Overture calls for a banda of any available brass instruments.[4] Rmhermen (talk) 22:41, 16 February 2013 (UTC)
- Banda is Italian for band, but it has a special and well documented role in opera. I've expanded your draft at User:Thnidu/Banda (opera) and added further sources. There is definitely enough now to move it into main space where it can be further expanded. Let me know if you'd like me to do that. Voceditenore (talk) 15:06, 17 February 2013 (UTC)
- Now moved to article space at Banda (opera). Members of WikiProject Opera are helping to expand it. Voceditenore (talk) 18:47, 18 February 2013 (UTC)

Video in gallery
edit2013 Russian meteor event includes a video in a gallery. Clicking on it causes it to run the video but their doesn't seem to be a way to get to the image page. Is there a way to add a link like the icon in the regular video thumbnail? Rmhermen (talk) 22:46, 16 February 2013 (UTC)
- I created a template for this, which currently is at User:Toshio Yamaguchi/Template:Video link with thumbnail. -- Toshio Yamaguchi 23:15, 16 February 2013 (UTC)
- It doesn't show a thumbnail from the actual video, though, just a generic thumbnail I chose for this. I am not sure whether for most videos on Wikipedia showing a thumbnail from the actual video is really needed in the cases where a link to the video is to be provided such as you intend. -- Toshio Yamaguchi 23:26, 16 February 2013 (UTC)
- Well, I have to log out now. If the template is what you want to have, then feel free to move it out of my userspace into the template namespace (in that case, remember to move the doc subpage as well). -- Toshio Yamaguchi 23:43, 16 February 2013 (UTC)
Incorrect information on page
editUnder the "Professional Career" section it states "Neutrality Disputed" because 'Citation needed'. However, cittion is clearly given:
Citations which are provided: http://www.seniorsworldchronicle.com/2011/06/usa-babar-ahmed-on-challenges-of-global.html http://wbi.worldbank.org/wbi/news/2010/08/10/video-highlights-innovative-cities-global-dialogue Computer998877 (talk) 23:53, 16 February 2013 (UTC)
- You posted your thoughts on the article's talk page before you came here. That is the correct place to discuss the matter, not here. Good luck. --76.189.111.199 (talk) 00:09, 17 February 2013 (UTC)
- (edit conflict) It looks like the "Neutrality Disputed" tag was placed on the article nearly 2 years ago. But the citations were just added a few minutes ago. Also the citations only cover one of the three "Citation Needed" flags. After you've introduced sources to cover the other two claims then I think it would be OK to remove the "Neutrality Disputed" notice. -Thibbs (talk) 00:14, 17 February 2013 (UTC)
- Thibbs, the tag is solely about the neutrality of some of the section's language, which is unrelated to the recently added cites. As I said in my prior comment, the editor did the correct thing by posting in the existing thread on the article's talk page. This matter is therefore resolved. --76.189.111.199 (talk) 00:27, 17 February 2013 (UTC)
- I disagree that language choice was the central issue here. If you look at the original edit that placed the "Neutrality Disputed" notice, you'll see that the editor who placed this notice simultaneously tagged three separate lines as "citation needed". I think it's most likely that the editor who placed the "Neutrality Disputed" tag was equally concerned with the lack of citation for all three lines. Indeed this is reflected in the talk page post he made. At any rate finding citations for the two remaining "citation needed" claims or alternately removing the claims from the article would seem to cover the most likely root of the problem and couldn't hurt. -Thibbs (talk) 00:40, 17 February 2013 (UTC)
- Thibbs, you can discuss the matter on the article's talk page. While citation needed tags were added, there was also a separate neutrality issue with some of the content that still exists. We've addressed Computer998877's comment, so no further discussion is necessary from the help desk's perspective. --76.189.111.199 (talk) 00:55, 17 February 2013 (UTC)
- Again, I disagree that the "citation needed" issue is separate from the "neutrality disputed" issue here. All evidence points to the contrary. Applying proper sources where indicated by the cn-tags will fix any neutrality concerns. This isn't a content issue, it's an explanation of how to interpret NPOV tags. If you're unclear on the difference between help concerning content (like a discussion over the Paterno family's investigative rebuttal to the Freeh report) and help concerning how to use Wikipedia (like how to interpret cleanup tags) then please feel free to contact me at my talk page where I can elaborate without cluttering up the Help Desk. -Thibbs (talk) 06:06, 17 February 2013 (UTC)
