Taxbox and reference problems

edit

Hi, I am writing and article about an insect (User:Lizamaga/sandbox). I followed the template taxobox, but in the preview page shows a small box with my user name and below says scientific classification, but not the image and the information. Also I did the inline citation for my references and I have double references, I am not sure what I am doing wrong. Thanks for your help. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Lizamaga (talkcontribs) 04:36, 15 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Lizamaga, Take a look at this change I made to your sandbox article - [1]. As you (correctly) added inline citations, you do not then need to additionally list the references after the {{reflist}} template. The template automatically does that for you. I'm investigating the infobox issue now. CaptRik (talk) 08:10, 15 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
The second issue, with your infobox, is that you haven't used the correct template parameters. Please see the documentation on Template:Taxobox#Quick_start_and_examples which explains how to use it. You can copy & paste the starter template from that page, then fill in the correct information. CaptRik (talk) 08:14, 15 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Millbrook A.F.C.

edit

I have a suggestion regarding the Millbrook badge being added to the page.

It can be found at http://www.swpleague.co.uk/Club_Directory/Division_1_West or by visiting our official Twitter page. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.144.132.166 (talk) 11:51, 15 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Maybe you should consider posting this on the Millbrook A.F.C. talkpage. Thanks π♂101 (talk) 20:07, 15 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Fan-made album cover

edit

I'm the primary author of the Songs from the Black Hole Wikipedia page, which is about the unfinished, unreleased album by Weezer. Because the album was never finished, there's no official album art for it, so I've used the "no cover art" image for the article.

Another editor suggested we use the album art found on this Weezerpedia page. The art was made by a fan, but it's actually a recreation of the placeholder Songs From the Black Hole cover art seen in the liner notes of another Weezer album, Alone - The Home Recordings of Rivers Cuomo.

It seems to me we probably can't use this because it may be misleading (unless clarified in a caption?) or because it's technically fan-made and counts as original research. Is that correct?

On a related note, I'd really like to include the aforementioned image from the Alone liner notes, but I'm assuming we can't for licensing reasons. Is that also correct? Popcornduff (talk) 14:25, 15 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

edit: to clarify, the image in the liner notes is a photo of a selection of cassette tapes, including one with placeholder Songs from the Black Hole art.

My opinion: If there is no official cover art, then don't use an image in the infobox. If the fan art meets notability standards, then include it in the body of the article with related content. Using fan art in the infobox is misleading. Articles on notable bootleg or fan recordings would be a different issue. --  Gadget850 talk 14:54, 15 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Basically you're bouncing around WP:V and WP:SYNTH only with an image. The album was never released, you haven't got a source to say that the unreleased image was going to be the artwork (or the basis of it). Don't use the fan made one in the infobox (you may be able to use it in the prose if you can source the "accepted unofficial cover" claim. I would get rid of "no cover art" as that looks like an appeal for art, which doesn't exist. - X201 (talk) 15:03, 15 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
There are also rather serious concerns about copyright violation, especially since the fan recreation is itself a copyright violation of the image from the liner notes. --Orange Mike | Talk 17:52, 15 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the replies; we won't be using the fan-made art. What about my second question? Can we use the image in the liner notes (in the article, not for album art), or are there copyright issues? Popcornduff (talk) 23:33, 15 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, Popcornduff. You can use it only if your use meets all the criteria in non-free content criteria. --ColinFine (talk) 15:13, 16 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Referencing errors on Sannois

edit

Reference help requested. How do I add that Cyrano de Bergerac is said to have died in Sannois? Thanks, SergeyDC80 (talk) 16:55, 15 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The error message gave you a wikilink to Help:Cite errors/Cite error included ref. I've added the missing </ref> tag for you. It would be preferable to give more detail, see bare urls. --David Biddulph (talk) 17:02, 15 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

a writer at WPS Health Insurance

edit

I am a writer at WPS Health Insurance and have been instructed to update the corporate Wikipedia page. You keep telling me I am breaking conduct or something.

Please advise- our page must get updated ASAP.

THANK YOU — Preceding unsigned comment added by WPSWiki (talkcontribs) 19:43, 15 August 2014 (UTC) WPSWiki (talkcontribs) has made few or no other edits outside this topic. [reply]

The block reasoning has been explained on your talkpage. "Your account has been blocked indefinitely from editing Wikipedia because it appears to be mainly intended for publicity and/or promotional purposes." π♂101 (talk) 20:05, 15 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
When you use phrases like "the corporate Wikipedia page" and "must get updated ASAP" it leaves the impression you think it is your page. It is not, it is an encyclopedia page about an organization. If you are associated with the organization, you ought not to be editing it directly. See WP:COI. We have mechanisms to permit you to inform us if there are problems on the page, but you should not be making the changes.--S Philbrick(Talk) 21:01, 15 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Wikipedia has no deadline. Except in cases where there is libel or something else of a serious nature that violates the rules, the only reason to be in a hurry is promoting the company, which is not our objective. If there is inaccurate information we would certainly want that corrected, if there is a source.— Vchimpanzee • talk • contributions • 20:53, 18 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

deleted page

edit

Hi some time ago my wiki page was deleted. I have been trying in vain to restore it. Despite attempting all the recommendations on how to restore a deleted listing I could not restore the original page.

I was told it was deleted because a Film Festival had used some of my wiki page for promotional reasons. Someone at Wili told me that the information on the festival sight was a duplication to my page, therefore, my page was relisted. I contacted the festival to ask them to remove any reference to my text lifted from Wiki and they could not.

I am still at a loss why my page was deleted and not the Festival's.

I am also curious as to who deleted my original page. I was told that I could not relist it and that the information had to come from some other source than my own.

This is very confusing and I hope that you can help me restore my original page. I am not an expert at listing things here.

Thanks much

Dominic Angerame — Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.181.22.12 (talk) 21:16, 15 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Dominic. To help us know more information, what was the exact page name you are talking about? New pages are often deleted if it looks like they have been copied and pasted from other websites, as it is a likely copyright violation. Pages that look like advertisements are also quickly deleted. π♂101 (talk) 21:26, 15 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
The page is Dominic Angerame which, according to the deletion log has been deleted three times for promotion and copyright violation. This has been explained in detail at User talk:Dangerame, the most recent creator. SpinningSpark 23:18, 15 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
The claim that the copying was by a "film festival" from Wikipedia is nonsense. The page identified as the source of copyright infringement http://www.cinemod.net/about.html has Internet Archive versions going back to 2001 whereas the first version of the Wikipedia article was created in 2007. There is no way that we will ever restore the deleted article. Even if the copyright and promotional issues were fixed, the article was completely unreferenced so was open to be deleted as non-notable anyway. Dominic, I don't know whether you are sufficiently notable for a Wikipedia or not, but if you are someone will need to write a completely new article from scratch and that someone should not be you or anyone connected with you. Alton,il

edit

page is Alton,il. I added a notable person to the page. Wm Paley was a graduate of Western Military academy, a boarding school in Alton. The Alton page includes other graduates from WMA. My addition was deleted because "he went to school there"

I am confused as to why the deletion. The cadets at WMA lived in Alton...many for most of their youth.

Thanks for your assistance.Cbjack68 (talk) 21:27, 15 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

This would best be discussed with the editor who reverted you. By the way, reinstating your edit before discussing (as you did just before posting here) was not a good idea. That is the beginnings of an edit war for which you could be sanctioned if you continue. SpinningSpark 23:49, 15 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
