I am working with an artist on making his Wikipedia page but do not have articles to make citations, the person is telling me his date of birth, High school and so forth. I would like someone to review the changes made to the listing for Mid-Atlantic Pagan Alliance dated 18 July 2014. This unsubstantiated, biased and factually incorrect edit was done by an ex-girlfriend of the co-founder. I would request that this article be locked and 108.8.97.41 be blocked from further action on Wikipedia. Raibahadurs of Himachal Pradesh

Help with dark Wikipedia skins

I need a dark background for reading and editing Wikipedia, because light backgrounds strain my eyes. What are your suggestions on how to achieve this? I'm running Firefox, but the Stylish method turned up by my search engine doesn't seem to be working for me.

So I'm left with either skins or inverting the colours on my own PC (which I have a hotkey for). The disadvantage of the second method is that images get inverted.

What I was thinking is perhaps inverting, through CSS, the colours of everything displayed on the site except for images, if that's possible. I can't code in CSS or Javascript, so I don't know how they really work. (However, if there are simple tutorials that would help me with this problem, I'm willing to learn)

Thanks for that Gadget; I never thought of testing different skins. There are lots of incompatibilities with this method (e.g. the preferences screen goes wacko), but it works well enough. (Though the green is a lot harder on the eyes than a light grey for text. Also, Vector is awesome and will be missed.)
Fauzen, thanks for pointing me there. That's exactly what I need, because then others can use it too. I was most surprised to not be able to find CSS code for a dark wikipedia skin. Should I also file a mediawiki bug report, since the difficulty of getting a comfortable background is an accessibility issue? Thank you both for your help. Normal people with Wikipedia pages

Hello,

I was under the assumption that everyday normal people aren't allowed to have Wikipedia pages. For example, a guy named Joe Favorito has a Wikipedia page for himself and he advertises his personal website. It seems ridiculous that him and other normal people can have their own Wikipedia page. If I am wrong please let me know.

It's also worth noting that nobody in the world (and no company, band, building, city or anything else) has a Wikipedia page: Wikipedia is the only thing that has Wikipedia pages, and it has them about many people, places, companies etc. This might seem a pedantic point, but I think it is is helpful to remember when thinking about Wikipedia articles and who edits them. --ColinFine (talk) 15:30, 17 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Trash on my user talk page

Adding a wiki page

Hello, I attempted to add a wiki page on a person, I used the outline of another page to make sure the sections were correctly placed. I only got up to a certain point then saved. I went back to edit today and I see the page was deleted.

Hello, Ralphiedee. Your draft article is at WT:Articles for creation/Ralphie Dee D'Agostino: it has not been deleted, and you have not yet submitted it for review. However, were you to do so it would certainly be rejected in its present form, because it does not contain one single inline reference to a reliable source. The Nerve.com article might be classed as a reliable source, but it is not about you. Wikipedia insists on subjects being "notable": in normal language this means much the same as "important", but in Wikipedia we use it in a special way, that is different from "important". A subject is notable if it has been written about in reliable places - so we would need articles from major newspapers (not just listings or passing mentions) that mention you. There are many subjects (particularly people) that you might say are important, but until other people have written about them elsewhere, we cannot have an article on them in Wikipedia.
But I'm afraid there is another problem. Assuming from your name that you are Ralphie D'Agostino, you are strongly advised not to write an article about yourself: see autobiography for why not, and what you can do instead. --ColinFine (talk) 15:49, 17 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
That is not the page the user created yesterday. That page, as following the user's link will show, was created on the Wikimedia project, not Wikipedia. It was deleted simply for being on the wrong project. I do not have admin rights on Wikimedia so cannot tell if it would have been an acceptable article here. However, the person's username indicates that they have a conflict of interest so should not be creating the page directly. Ralphiedee should instead follow ColinFine's advice and update and submit the draft already at Articles for Creation. SpinningSpark 16:14, 17 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Finding the right Archer Shee

If you search for an article about "Archer Shee" (with the intent of finding out about the real life person on whom the play The Winslow Boy was based, George Archer-Shee), you get redirected from Archer Shee to Martin Archer Shee. A superficial scan of the article makes it clear that you have not found the right person (though a detailed reading mentions the person and play at the end of the Biography section). It would seem that putting:

at the top of the article would help the reader, but it has the unfortunate consequence of directing the reader away from the family link between George and Martin, as mentioned at the end of the article on Martin Archer Shee. Is there any way of using the for template to alternatively redirect the reader to the end of the article? I considered adding a new section to the Martin Archer Shee article titled "Descendents" and redirecting to that section, but it seems a bit clumsy to have to edit an article in order to direct the reader to a part of that article, and I am not sure if a redirect to a section in the article you have found really works.ThoughtIdRetired (talk) 18:03, 17 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

That leaves the problem that there is a piece of information about this person on the Martin Archer Shee article - but it is not at all apparent. Additionally, I got the impression that you should only use a disambiguation page if there is a number of different articles on different subjects. Three is enough for a disambiguation page, that is perfectly acceptable. In answer to your question about the for template, the #anchor format can be used within the for template to link to a section heading but I don't think that is a good idea. That would be assuming that the reader was looking for the relationship with Martin and since they have followed the redirect from Archer Shee there is no reason to think that is what they are looking for at all. Also {{redirect}} is a better choice of template in this case if you are not going to use a disambiguation page. If you are going to use a disambiguation page, pointing to George Archer-Shee at all would be inappropriate, you should point to the disambiguation page instead. Need help correcting a film's release date in an article's main title

How do I go about changing the year that's in parenthesis on an article's main title, for an indie film? A few years back I edited in the wrong release date, 2011, for an indie film. A little later "(2011 film)" appeared after the film's title (to differentiate itself, I guess). The director was kind enough to inform me that it was only a rough cut of the film which was circulating festivals and critic reviews in late 2011 when I first edited the article and the film was actually completed this year. I was able to edit in the correct year of 2014 in the article itself, but I see no way of actually changing "(2011 film)" to read "(2014 film)" in the main title while I'm in editing mode.
