editGibraltar hackers avoiding page editing on sensitive matters
editDear Sirs,
I have tried to include direct references on the indecent Tax Haven situation in the Gibraltar Wiki page, as well as indication of "bunkering", this is heavy pollution in the straits owed to Gibraltar unlawful practice; as well as the discrimination against Spanish workers in the Rock, notwithstanding the cigarette smuggling of millions of tobacco cartons into Spanish soil, and it was immediately edited by somebody else... I suppose there is an automatic program because it was cancelled in less than a second.... I think you should duly indicate that the findings in the GIBRALTAR Webpage are inaccurate and have been duly contested.... Notwithstanding the inclusion of Gibraltar in the United Nations list of countries pending decolonization.
It is not difficult to find serious references for the above mentioned topics.
Best regards Manuel Sánchez Cánovas (Redacted)
- As well as being unsourced, your contribution is not adhering to a neutral point of view. It is written in the style of an essay and is thus not suitable for inclusion in an encyclopaedia. Also, you appear to be user:Cyberkampung who is currently blocked. This post is therefore block evasion and you are now also blocked. SpinningSpark 01:00, 29 June 2014 (UTC)

Two Issues
editTwo issues I want to bring to the attention of people who know how to use WP much better than I do:
The article for Robert Costello has two references, both which are for IMDB. Shouldn't this article be deleted since I always thought IMDB isn't considered a reliable source?
The article for Paul Edgerly is spelled incorrectly. The proper spelling of his surname is Edgerley.
Hope this helps ... BikeRider95 (talk) 01:21, 29 June 2014 (UTC)
- Robert Costello: Yes BikeRider95 Your right IMDB is not a reliable source. But it Could stay if other sources were found. Its normally a better idea to discuss that kind of issue on the talk page before you make a change like that though. As for Paul Edgerly You could discuss it on the talk page under a new section with a reason (E.g: Name is wrongly spelt) and wait for other editors to review it. Thanks LorChat 01:30, 29 June 2014 (UTC)
- @BikeRider95: If you believe that Robert Costello is not notable you can nominate the article for deletion. It will probably get deleted if IMDB is the only source with information. However, you would be wise to search for sources yourself before nominating (Find sources: Google (books · news · scholar · free images · WP refs) · FENS · JSTOR · TWL). Deletions are not made just on the basis of what is currently in the article, it is a question of what the article could become if worked on.
- I checked and could not find any reliable sources for the Robert Costello article. I was hoping someone else who is more knowledgeable would nominate it for deletion since I'm pretty new to Wikipedia and don't know how to do much. I checked nominate the article for deletion and am somewhat confused as to how to proceed. BikeRider95 (talk) 08:38, 30 June 2014 (UTC)
- The sources in the Paul Edgerly article do not have the spelling you claim. Without sources verifying the correct spelling the article cannot be renamed. By the way, the next time you have multiple unrelated questions I suggest that you open separate threads for each of them. SpinningSpark 08:41, 29 June 2014 (UTC)
- Some of them do, including his employers here. In a google search his missus also spells it with the extra e. Britmax (talk) 09:43, 29 June 2014 (UTC)
- As I said "the sources in the...article..." SpinningSpark 10:33, 29 June 2014 (UTC)
- Some of them do, including his employers here. In a google search his missus also spells it with the extra e. Britmax (talk) 09:43, 29 June 2014 (UTC)
- Fuhghettaboutit has moved the article to Paul Edgerley - I've added a footnote noting the alternative spelling, and stating that both the Bain Capital website [1] and his personal LinkedIn profile [2] spell it 'Edgerley'. AndyTheGrump (talk) 16:33, 29 June 2014 (UTC)
- Can anyone help out in nominating the Robert Costello article for deletion? I can't quite figure out how to do it myself as I'm new to Wikipedia, but I couldn't find any reliable sources for that person, and the only two sources link to IMDB. BikeRider95 (talk) 14:03, 1 July 2014 (UTC)
Referencing errors on Randhurst Ice Arena
editReference help requested. I do not know how to fix this reference error. Please help! Evangp (talk) 02:39, 29 June 2014 (UTC) Thanks, Evangp (talk) 02:39, 29 June 2014 (UTC)
- @Evangp:, I fixed it here. You were putting more than the author's name in the Author field. The part that the template really didn't like was the pipe "|" character. Dismas|(talk) 02:54, 29 June 2014 (UTC)
Why cleanup tags have a date parameter?
editWhy cleanup tags have a date parameter?It is useless.Ssaz 12 (talk) 09:16, 29 June 2014 (UTC)
- It's done so that we know how long an item has needed cleanup, ideally so that things don't drag on for years without attention. Although as this is a volunteer run thing it doesn't always work as well as it ideally could. Britmax (talk) 09:30, 29 June 2014 (UTC)
- Pages needed clean up are sorted into categories by date, so volunteers working on a specific problem know which articles have had the problem the longest, allowing them to clear the backlog from the oldest first. I've used this feature a lot myself, so I can attest that it is helpful and not useless. For exampl, see CAT:UNCAT. --Jayron32 11:48, 29 June 2014 (UTC)
Serbian Wikipedia
editYou must remove this part because it is a lie ...
I tried to change/erase but someone does not allow me to do it, constantly returns to the initial state, probably the same one who had posted such a lie. You must do something about this, you must not allow all kinds of morons doing what their twisted minds tells them.

Have you already put in an RFC at the Russian Wikipedia? You might start with that. Scott P. (talk) 12:31, 29 June 2014 (UTC)
- You have posted this at the English Wikipedia. We have no control or input on what gets put on, what I presume to be, the Russian Wikipedia. Please take your concern there. Dismas|(talk) 12:45, 29 June 2014 (UTC)
- It is Serbian Wikipedia, not Russian Wikipedia. The page has already been protected. The right way is to post about this at the article's talk page without using vulgarism. --Glaisher (talk) 12:49, 29 June 2014 (UTC)
- Yes, whenever a disagreement arises, respectful conversation on the article's talk page is always the best next step. Scott P. (talk) 12:56, 29 June 2014 (UTC)
- Russia has not conquered Serbia yet and I don't think it is nice to push political POV here (scnr). Vogone (talk) 12:52, 29 June 2014 (UTC)
(N.B.: scnr = "sorry, could not restrain myself") Scott P. (talk) 14:27, 29 June 2014 (UTC)
- Okay, thank you. I get the point. The horse is dead and now well tenderized. I'm not an Eastern European scholar. Dismas|(talk) 16:06, 29 June 2014 (UTC)
Wikipedia scripting help: Tigrinya Wikipedia Template:Side box
editOn ti:Template:Side box I posted the exact code on the English Template:Side box but the page says there is a script error. At ti:Template:Commons the template won't work because of the script error.
Thanks WhisperToMe (talk) 20:10, 29 June 2014 (UTC)
- Like many complex templates, this uses a Lua module, which may not be present in ti.Wikipedia. If the link I gave doesn't help, I suggest asking at WP:VPT. --ColinFine (talk) 22:53, 29 June 2014 (UTC)
- Exactly what Colin said. All the template does is invoke module:Side box. That module does not exist on ti.wikipedia. By the way, when you copy stuff to another wiki you should give the attribution in an edit summary for licencing reasons. SpinningSpark 00:45, 30 June 2014 (UTC)
- Ok, I'll mention that in the talk page. Thank you! WhisperToMe (talk) 00:40, 3 July 2014 (UTC)
Uploading OGV but it's blocking it, saying that it is an OGX extension.
editI'm attempting to upload an OGV, I've checked the extension and it is OGV, but when I try it says it is an OGX which isn't an accepted file type. Any advice? Darkwarriorblake / SEXY ACTION TALK PAGE! 21:32, 29 June 2014 (UTC)
- Try posting this question at the Computing Reference Desk. Robert McClenon (talk) 21:33, 29 June 2014 (UTC)
- This page is for questions about using Wikipedia. Please consider asking this question at the Computing reference desk. They specialize in answering computer questions and will try to answer any question in the universe (except how to use Wikipedia, since that is what this Help Desk is for). Just follow the link and ask away. You could always try searching Wikipedia for an article related to the topic you want to know more about. I hope this helps. LorChat 23:10, 29 June 2014 (UTC)
- A problem with uploading a file to Wikipedia is certainly a question about using Wikipedia. The answer is probably that the declarations in the file header reveal it to not be the required file type, or else the file is corrupted. One other thing it might be, check that you have "hide extensions" unchecked in your folder options. If extensions are hidden it might turn out that the file is really named foo.ogv.ogx rather than foo.ogv. SpinningSpark 00:54, 30 June 2014 (UTC)
- Thanks for the info guys/gals, Spark I did check the extension so I know it is .ogv but like others have said, the headers might be saying something else. Darkwarriorblake / SEXY ACTION TALK PAGE! 22:59, 30 June 2014 (UTC)
