Text appearing in preview, but not in saved article

edit

When previewing my edits at Azamgarh, the text "Found Major_Highway," appears between the "Ref improve" template and the first line of the lead.
Having spent some time trying to find this text, without any success, I eventually saved my edit - to discover that it does not appear in the published page. Trying a subsequent test edit, it re-appeared in the page preview again.
As it does not appear in the published page, this is no major problem, but could easily confuse, or put off, other editors. Any idea what is happenening? - Arjayay (talk) 13:48, 30 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I don't see it. Dismas|(talk) 13:56, 30 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
There was a line | Major_Highway = NH 233,NH235(Azamgarh-Bilriyaganj-Maharajganj-Rajesultanpur-Tanda-Basti) within the infobox, but there is no parameter | Major_Highway defined for that infobox template. I have removed it, but why it displayed in that strange manner I don't understand. --David Biddulph (talk) 14:14, 30 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks David Biddulph - I was searching for the entire term - I didn't think of dropping the "found" - Arjayay (talk) 14:19, 30 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
There is poor documentation. {{Infobox settlement}} uses Module:Check for unknown parameters. By default, when previewing it displays 'Found _VALUE_, ' for each unrecognized parameter name _VALUE_. PrimeHunter (talk) 15:06, 30 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Additional Info Regarding Orgins of Edom

edit

Please note that the Book of Jashur, a lost book of the Bible contains more detailed information about Edom, it's origins, kings and inhabitants. Edom began as the land of Seir where Esau went and took wives. The children of Esau eventually took over the land. For more information, please see Jashur chapters 30: 23-27; Chp 36: 22-38; Chp 57: 40-45. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.168.193.96 (talk) 14:50, 30 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

If you want information added to an article, discuss on the article talk page. However, if you can cite chapter and verse in the Book of Jashur, then it probably isn't lost, just non-canonical. Robert McClenon (talk) 19:54, 30 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
A problem lies in the fact that there are 3 "Books of Jasher" (not "Jashur"). The first was a genuine, pre-Christian, Jewish work which is referenced in existing Old Testament books, but is lost. The second is a (supposedly) 16th-Century scholarly Hebrew work named after the original, which it does not claim to be, but which has been so claimed in some translations of it. The third is a 18th century English fake. If your information comes from this last, it isn't likely to be of encyclopaedic interest: if from the second (particularly from the original Hebrew version) it might be, but the work's ultimate authenticity and source is murky. {The poster formerly known as 87.81.230.195} 2.123.25.88 (talk) 01:53, 31 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Tom Faraday American actor, writer, books

edit

Hi, I am writing to you because I have read I can't create my own articles, and in the past, I didn't want to go with Wikipedia, but decided to make data about me available, to not to have misunderstandings.

Extended content

I have 3 copyright books, that none of them listed. I received mainly school awards ( CA State), in acting filmproduction, cinematography.

Books: 1. Endeavours into Adventures and Love (poetry) 2. My Telepathic Letters (poetry) 3. The Bells of Magdeburg (novel - that was sent in for Nobel Prize)

http://www.amazon.com/Tom-Faraday/e/B00IWEQV5E

I also write scripts. I had a trademark on "Tom Faraday" as TV, Radio, Film actor. Many of my directors didn't created IMDB

So, my name is Tamas Meszaros aka Tom Faraday actor, writer, film maker etc. Polihistor. Or Tom Faraday aka Tamas Meszaros (accents on Tama's Me'sza'ros). I was born on January 6th, 1970 in Hungary, City of Gyongyosi, county of Heves. Same city Gabriela Csepe came from, Olympics in swimming.

I was always a famous, awarded, elevated student. My Industrial Highschool in Gyongyos (Vak Botyan Janos...). When I met Gabriela in the Gyongyos Spa I was almost already the graduate of the University of MISKOLC. She and another Hungarian had a record with Pasadena City College, that looked liberating.

My first year studies in MISKOLC, 1989 - 1994, let me take my Budapest and Ever satellite weekends classes (Gymnastics University) to be certified and teach Karate for Campus students - JKA standard, for few years in a stadium (Long Beach State like Pyramid size).

I had a joint Masters program, Mechanical Engineering ( in Logistics Machine Design and German-Hungarian Technical Translation) MSME and ELTE, a Budapest University faculty gave the language part.

I gained three (3) Stipendias through my grad studies as off, Wien ( Siemens AG, UNIDO VP office,TU- Wien) 1993', 2. Otto Von Guericke University - Magdeburg 1993' - where few Prime studied,3. Dortmund University 1994 - grad thesis work on Hospital Information and Logistics systems.

I started out as a business software consultant, my bio is on the back of my books, the Amazon page let you flip it over as on my writing.

I have had a luck to work with very elite consulting companies, also as a outsourced senior consultant in Del Mar, CA ( San Diego ) with PWC. Where I had a " Up in the Air" movie kind of a Job. I think sketched out a movie like that, but Anna Kendrick played my start and George Clooney my end in that job a bit less realistic ways, after having a "Firm" movie kind of a Job with Plaut Consulting ( my first job). Where after Plaut and before San Diego, I have been lucky to work with the top energy sector projects, partially called SAP consultant, Logistics Executive, VP of project (Hungarian Power Companies , for instance).

Www.Instagram.com/tomfaraday - I posted an earlier Hollywood (NoHo) articles on my books' translations and other data.

I have no idea how to do this....Since in politics I didn't run after my en date is 1999, October 5th ( Washington DC).

I did spent time in acting teaching and finished private schools in LA. Also with Dr.Marjory Taylor, EdD's office from 1999-2008(9) where I had 4-6 years more intense part as TA/PA. I had been taking her also to singing seminars of 2 days ( Chapman University, CSUN, USC) with the local LA chapter's sining association.

Since going for a long time to UCLA dance club, later enrolled to Pasadena City College, where I retook in academic environment, performing arts, undertook filmstudies as off PhD prep and did MBA classes, also researched IVF related topics, Magdeburg again for supporting data, what happened to my assumptions sice my studies...I also had good physical anthropology and physical Geography researches (Health Science). Of course Economics, Film history...

I had privileged to evaluate and analyze my script professor, during educational professorial class. He had also 4 degrees.

I completed two programs, occupational in Filmmaking 2. Cinematography under Photography, Visual Media and Art.

So, here I am in " Hollywood " acting, writing, and researching....

@Tomfaraday007: Hello, and thank you for your interest in Wikipedia. Unfortunately, you seem to have misunderstood what Wikipedia is and is not. Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, not a place to promote yourself or your books and ideas. Wikipedia is not Facebook, or Twitter, or your personal website. Information in Wikipedia is supposed to be verifiable from published sources, the majority of which should be created independently of the person they are about.
The information you have provided above about yourself gives us nothing to work with to build an article about you. It does not indicate that you are notable, in the sense of being a person that other people have written about. Your books are self-published, IMDB provides very little information and is not often considered a reliable source because it accepts user-generated content, and you have provided no other published sources to provide us with information on you or to show why there should be an article about you. ~ ONUnicorn(Talk|Contribs)problem solving 17:54, 30 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

This doesn't strike me as a a valid category, but I'm at a loss as to how to propose deletion. Any insight will be welcome. 2601:188:0:ABE6:65F5:930C:B0B2:CD63 (talk) 18:48, 30 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I believe I have improved it, bringing it in line with categories on other prominent families. At the moment, I'm not sure a category for this family is needed since there are only 2 articles, but there are at least 2 more that could be written, and I don't think deletion is necessary at this juncture. ~ ONUnicorn(Talk|Contribs)problem solving 19:38, 30 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
These are valid and common categories. ex: Category:Jackson family (show business), Category:Jesse Jackson family and Category:Jackson family of West Virginia to list a few. Mlpearc (open channel) 20:05, 30 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

G4 Question

edit

I reviewed a draft at Articles for Creation. The history shows that an article with the same title was deleted as per a deletion discussion in April 2014. According to the criteria for speedy deletion, a page can be speedy-deleted if it is a re-creation of a deleted page without any substantial improvement. However, since I am not an administrator, I can't view the deleted page to see whether the draft is an improvement. How in general is G4 to be interpreted in cases like this? I can see that editors who took part in the deletion discussion can remember what the deleted article was. Should I ask the deleting administrator to compare the draft with the deleted article? My own thought is that the draft needs minor improvements and can then be accepted, but how can I be sure that this isn't a case for G4? Robert McClenon (talk) 20:00, 30 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

You can ask the deleting admin to restore it into the draft space and/or your userspace. They might also consider comparing the two as you suggested. But you're on the right track, go with the deleting admin first. Tiggerjay (talk) 20:49, 30 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
The deleting admin can't restore it to draft space, because there is already a draft in draft space. I now discovered that there is also a new version of the article in article space, which also needs comparing against the deleted draft. I will ask the deleting admin to copy it into my user space. Robert McClenon (talk) 21:31, 30 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
The deleting admin, User:Crisco 1492, compared the three versions. The version in article space is better than the deleted article, so that G4 is not applicable. However, the version in draft space is even better. What should be done to enable the draft to take the place of the version in article space? Is a G6 of the existing article in order after the originator has made minor improvements? Is a history merge needed, or unnecessary because the existing article will be replaced? What is the next step? Robert McClenon (talk) 02:05, 31 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Lesotho

edit

Your page on Lesotho states that it was the highest independent state in the world. Sorry that is wrong. The Republic of Mongolia is higher Check your facts. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 200.66.20.128 (talk) 20:08, 30 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Facts checked by List of elevation extremes by country - which confirms that Lesotho is the higher of the two. Although Mongolia has a higher "high" point of 4374m against Lesotho's 3482m, Lesotho's higher low point (1400m Vs 518m) results in a lower elevation span, meaning - essentially - it's higher up in both the world, and the rankings. Policy or Precedent for when to include a lawsuit?

edit

Can someone point me in the direction of an existing policy or precedent that describes when a lawsuit is appropriate to be included in an article. I run into these from time to time and haven't been able to find a good resource to point other editors to. Usually I use my best judgement and in many cases the inclusion usually violates other policies. TIA. Tiggerjay (talk) 20:29, 30 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I assume that your question has to do with whether to include information about a lawsuit in either a biography of a living person or an article on a corporation. In the former case, we have to be very careful, especially if the lawsuit was settled out of court or was not finally adjudicated, and it is often better to err on the side of saying nothing. In the latter case, I would think that the key would be whether the lawsuit was described in reliable sources such as newspapers of record. Is that your question, and are you asking about BLPs or about companies? Robert McClenon (talk) 20:40, 30 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, to clarify I'm talking about companies. Most policies deal with BLP or persons (suspects, perpetrators, or victims) - WP:NCRIME & WP:CRIME. To what degree does the presumption of not guilty (as we do with BLP) apply to companies? In the most recent instance for me there is a SPA editor who has done a handful of insertions of law cases into company (or in one case, city) article. I am thinking just because a suit is filed (and perhaps reported in local news) doesn't necessarily make it notable for inclusion, as per NOTNEWS. Then again there are cases (especially with companies) which linger on for years, and might become notable... All causing the question, at what threshold does a case/lawsuit cross before it is noteable enough for inclusion in a business article. I can imagine many of the fortune 100 companies have suits filed against them all the time, but which should be included, versus not. Tiggerjay (talk) 20:48, 30 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Dear Tiggerjay, the fact that it is a lawsuit isn't relevant. The consideration is, whether this information is worth including. To make such a consideration you can read up on the links provided at Wikipedia:Relevance. Sincerely, Taketa (talk) 21:05, 30 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Some POV/COI/SPA editors would suggest that any lawsuit would be relevant to a company's entry. Tiggerjay (talk) 23:07, 30 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Emailing issue

edit

I've been trying to send emails to other editors for an interview and my email keeps getting unsubscribed due to "multiple message delivery failures". I have no clue how to fix this as every time I subscribe my email, when I email someone again, I get unsubscribed once more. GamerPro64 22:47, 30 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hey GamerPro64 Are you using Yahoo!? I don't know if it's still a problem, but a while back (maybe two years agoish) they started using "DMARC" and that made all emails sent through Wikipedia fail. I switched to Gmail when that happened. Best regards--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 00:08, 31 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Yes I'm using Yahoo. God dangit. Guess I'm going to have to switch to my Gmail as well. Thanks for the tip. GamerPro64 00:11, 31 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Picture change

edit

Not actually a question, while researching a movie(the robe). For the name Frank Dekova, there is a picture of Clint Walker, my cousin! Hopefully someone can correct this. Thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2605:E000:AE03:AF00:8565:2715:DEE4:40F7 (talk) 23:17, 30 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Please can you provide a link to the picture concerned. Thanks. Eagleash (talk) 23:32, 30 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I assume they're talking about Frank de Kova and this image. Dismas|(talk) 00:13, 31 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I found that one but that appears to be Frank Dekova if his image is googled. Images of Walker via google are similar but I'm not sure that Walker would be photographed dressed as Chief Wild Eagle from F Troop, a part played by Dekova. Eagleash (talk) 00:27, 31 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I only looked into it briefly but yes, I don't know what OP is talking about either. Dismas|(talk) 00:30, 31 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
