Referencing errors on Omar Khadr

edit

Reference help requested.

Thanks, Colin Perkel (talk) 01:25, 4 June 2015 (UTC) Sorry. Not smart enough to fix.[reply]

Colin Perkel: Fixed it for you. The problem was the following:
<ref name=GlobalNews2015-04-24/><ref>{{cite [...] }}</ref>
Because of that line, the software believed you were trying to reference to an already-defined ref "GlobalNews2015-04-24" and add a new, unnamed, ref, rather than adding a new ref named GlobalNews2015-04-24, as you were trying to. AddWittyNameHere (talk) 01:33, 4 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Many thnx! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Colin Perkel (talkcontribs) 01:40, 4 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Use of Facebook / Twitter Pictures

edit

Is there a policy for using PUBLIC images from social media? For example, I would like to use a couple of images from the official Facebook page for Baxter Arena. swinquest (talk) 04:16, 4 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not sure which images you're asking about, so correct me if I'm wrong.
If you want to use an image that was posted by the Arena, the copyright is still held by either the photographer or the arena. So, until they release it under a free license, I don't see how we could use it here. After all, a building is a fairly easy thing to get a freely licensed image of.
If you're talking about a logo or something of that ilk, then they can be used under a claim of WP:FAIRUSE. Dismas|(talk) 05:43, 4 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

No info on who manages cricketers

edit

Hi,

i was reading the bios of cricketers and there was no mention of who manages them. i tried editing the page for Ajinkya Rahane (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ajinkya_Rahane) and a few others that i know are being managed by a company called Gaames Unlimited. i'm doing this as a part of a research project to see how sports management (starting with cricket) is being handled in India. Please let me know what i need to do to make sure that the edit doesn't get deleted. It will really help. Please help me with the same.

thanks and regards, tejas. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Tejasraomys (talkcontribs) 05:57, 4 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

If you are adding information, make sure you cite it to a reliable source. --Jayron32 06:12, 4 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Personally, I don't think who their manager is is important, but I would recommend asking WikiProject Cricket users at WT:CRICKET, to see if other people think the manager is important enough to add. Joseph2302 (talk) 11:21, 4 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Of your 70 edits to date, 69 are to add, or alter, references to this company in articles, the 70th is your post above, which also mentions them. It appears that you may be promoting them - or else you would, presumably, be adding references to other management companies.
Although it is unclear what it involves, Wikipedia is almost certainly not the place to carry out your "research project". - Arjayay (talk) 11:36, 4 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Unsurprisingly, a Google search shows there is a Tejas Rao connected to the company.[1] @Tejasraomys: Please read Wikipedia:Conflict of interest. And don't mark addition of text as a minor edit. PrimeHunter (talk) 11:49, 4 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
So, I've told them they've got replies here, and warned them about COI and linkspamming at their talkpage. Also, no sports article I've ever seen includes the name of sportspeople's manager/agent. Joseph2302 (talk) 11:55, 4 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I've also warned cricket fans at WT:CRICKET about it. Joseph2302 (talk) 12:01, 4 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
It's very common for management companies to spam articles on musicians, artists, etc. with links to their websites. Anybody with a spare month to clean them all out would earn the gratitude of all of us. --Orange Mike | Talk 12:18, 4 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
As far as I am concerned "management" is irrelevant for any subject on Wikipedia. This kind of spam appears to be particularly prevalent on articles about models.--ukexpat (talk) 12:47, 4 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Count Duckula page

edit

On the Count Duckula page use have the old South African flag.

Boomerang only came to ZAR in mid 2000s. Please put new flag? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 196.33.144.162 (talk) 09:24, 4 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Already done @X201: has already ficed this. I guess the confusion was it aired from 1988-1993 in the UK and USA, if it had aired at that time in South Africa then the old flag would have been correct. Joseph2302 (talk) 11:19, 4 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

actually per WP:MOSFLAG utilizing any flags in this instance is inappropriate as there is no official representation of the country. -- TRPoD aka The Red Pen of Doom 20:30, 4 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Moroch Partners

 – I'm working with the user who is editing under their new approved account. MusikAnimal talk 17:18, 4 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there. We've been trying to make updates to the Moroch wikipedia page as there is a ton of inaccurate information on the page - from the amount of offices to client listings to services to leadership. Each time we've tried to update, we've gotten blocked for "promotional" purposes but honestly, a change like such as "38" to "34" offices really isn't promotional, is it? Any help you can provide would be helpful. I personally got blocked - username is kendellkelton - "indefinitely" and can't even send a message thru the talk platform for help.

Here is the link: Moroch

Here is what we'd like to post:

Moroch is a full-service, independent marketing and communications agency based in Dallas, Texas.[1] Moroch services include: creative, digital and social media, planning and analytics, media, multicultural, public relations and experiential marketing. It has 34 offices across the US.[1] It is one of the top 20 independently owned advertising agencies in the country.[2]

The agency's major clients include McDonald's, Midas, Coca-Cola, Disney, Sony Pictures, Baylor Healthcare System, ClubCorp, Oasis Brands, Boost Mobile/Sprint, Make-A-Wish Foundation, Pure Fishing, Visionworks, Columbia Pictures and Universal Pictures, among others.

Founded in 1981 by Tom Moroch, who is currently serving as Chairman of Moroch Holdings Inc. The agency's Chief Executive Officer is Rob Boswell and President is Tommy Thompson.

We'd also like to update the logo. Is that possible? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 216.250.142.101 (talk) 15:40, 4 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

If you're blocked, then using an IP address to get round your block is block evasion. Also, that text is unsourced and not WP:NPOV, which I guess is the reason you got blocked in the first place, so no you cannot add it. Joseph2302 (talk) 15:43, 4 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
The issue is that many (if not all) of your edits weren't just changing "38" to "34". Assuming these are you and/or your colleagues, edits such as this, this or this introduced puffery, promotional language, and unsourced content, in additional to removing cited content. Please take a look at Wikipedia:Conflict of interest, which discusses what it means to have a conflict of interest with a subject and what to do. In the simplest terms, you should not be editing the article for your employer/company. WP:COIADVICE discusses some uncontroversial things you can fix, which I would say include basic factual fixes. But in general, adding new content, or removing content without reason, is not acceptable. Changes like that should be brought up on the article's talk page for other editors' input. ~SuperHamster Talk Contribs 15:48, 4 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
On a side note, the Kendell kelton account is still able to post to their own talk page (User talk:Kendell kelton). ~SuperHamster Talk Contribs 15:50, 4 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
One of their accounts has been unblocked, and they've been referred to WP:COIN. Joseph2302 (talk) 17:20, 4 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I just got DAB notices for a couple of words for which I'd provided Wikitionary links in today's main page article. How do I link to the specific definition I need?--Sturmvogel 66 (talk) 16:37, 4 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia:Wiktionary led me to Help:Interwikimedia links. And after looking at that, it doesn't look like you can link to a specific definition. Dismas|(talk) 16:57, 4 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
That's kinda what I thought. I'll remove the DAB notices then.--Sturmvogel 66 (talk) 17:11, 4 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Greetings Sturmvogel 66 (talk), from my crib notes, this may be the solution you are looking for. I have not used this myself but thought it useful to save these two examples.
For words in wiktionary, add this wikicode [[:wikt:doomsayer|doomsayers]] that links to this word at https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/doomsayer
This wikicode will lookup Article Title wikilink {{Wiktionary}}
Hope this helps. Regards, JoeHebda (talk) 00:55, 5 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Also found a multi-word example. This wikicode will lookup several words, {{Wiktionary|bishop|episcopal|episcopus}} JoeHebda (talk) 02:14, 5 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

There is no result for East River High School

There is no result for east river high school its the only school in orange county florida that isnt on wikipeda. please but east river on it — Preceding unsigned comment added by 184.88.40.125 (talk) 18:00, 4 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome to Wikipedia! If you're up to the task, you can always create an account and start the article off yourself. Otherwise, Wikipedia:Requested articles is the place to go to suggest an article be created. ~SuperHamster Talk Contribs 18:05, 4 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Or, you can create a draft article using Wikipedia: Article Wizard. Please note that an article needs to be neutral in tone and contain reliable sources- the usual notability criteria for things is WP:GNG, but high schools are generally considered notable enough by default, per WP:NSCHOOL. 'Work from Home Schemes'

edit

Work-at-home scheme (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

Hi;

I've just discovered this page today. At the top of the Wikipedia article for 'Work from Home Schemes', it says that, anyone typing in 'Work from Home' will be redirected here. Although this is largely true, I have to disagree. There are but a handful, if that, of legitimate 'Work from Home' opportunities, and it is unfortunate that they would be lumped in with the schemes and scams.

For the sake of the good that is out there, despite how little, I would like to create a separate 'Work from Home' article. In doing so, how would I not have it redirect to the 'Work from Home Schemes' article?

While I await your answer, I will gather my resources and references, and create worthwhile content for this article.

Thank you, Rena — Preceding unsigned comment added by Renamcnut (talkcontribs) 19:06, 4 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

The existing title possibly needs amending, and frankly, the article isn't one of our better ones - it lacks proper references, and seems focussed solely on the United States. Having said that though, I'm not sure that creating another article would be appropriate. If there are sources discussing the difference between legitimate 'work from home' opportunities and the scams, they probably belong in the existing article, and an article on 'working from home' would have a huge and nebulous scope if it were to cover the full range of possibilities - it is after all the norm for many forms of employment in many parts of the world. AndyTheGrump (talk) 19:21, 4 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Although I largely agree with what AndyTheGrump said, I would add that if you want/need to create an article where there is currently a redirect, simply edit the redirect. That said if I were you I would edit the existing article to add information on legitimate work from home and then request the combined article be moved over the redirect. ~ ONUnicorn(Talk|Contribs)problem solving 19:26, 4 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

fraudulent page

edit

Hello,

The page found at: http://www.wikiberal.org/wiki/Douglas_W._Allen is fraudulent. The person in the picture is listing my academic research as his own. It should be removed.

Douglas W. Allen is actually a professor of Economics at SFU in Canada. His web page is www.sfu.ca/~allen.

Hello, unfortunately, wikiliberal is not affiliated with Wikipedia, so we cannot help you. You should ask for help on wikiliberal. Good luck! Happy Squirrel (talk) 20:36, 4 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
To clarify: Wikipedia does not have any connection to Wikiberal, as can be seen here ("Ce projet n'est pas lié à Wikipédia"). "Wiki" only refers to the type of software used by these sites, not who owns them. We do not have an article on Douglas W. Allen. Ian.thomson (talk) 20:38, 4 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Digging around, I see that their administrator's email address is admin@liberaux.org . I suggest sending an email there with a link to Allen's real website. Ian.thomson (talk) 20:41, 4 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
To quote Bernard Ingham "cock-up before conspiracy" - William Douglas Allen, someone has obviously just uploaded the wrong image somewhere in the chain. Tell the lawyers to stand down. - X201 (talk) 13:08, 5 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, see also Hanlon's razor. Wiki pages, both at Wikipedia and many other wikis, are usually not written by their subject. The image was added in [2] by http://www.wikiberal.org/wiki/Utilisateur:Copeau. PrimeHunter (talk) 13:31, 5 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Request for Editors to Review Own Page

edit

I'm looking for a few Wikipedia editors to go through my article and tell me what I need to improve, add, delete, etc. Any advice will help me a lot.

The most glaring problem that I see is that there are no references supporting her notability. See WP:BIO for notability and WP:REFB for how to add references. I've also left a welcome message on your talk page which should help out. Dismas|(talk) 23:19, 4 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
