editReferencing errors on Nikita Khrushchev
editReference help requested. Please see message on my talk page. Thanks, Rothorpe (talk) 00:31, 29 December 2016 (UTC)
- It seems there is a named reference "pronounciation" defined in the refs section which is not used in the content, There is a large red error message to this effect on the page. The usual solution is to 'copy-out' the ref I.e. <!--(unused ref) {{ref content}}--> . Your addition of the 'IPA' at 17.41 UTC, 28 December removed the reference. Eagleash (talk) 00:44, 29 December 2016 (UTC)
- Done, thanks. Rothorpe (talk) 01:51, 29 December 2016 (UTC)
Referencing errors on Thomas H. Stix
editReference help requested. I got a message from ReferenceBot saying, "I have automatically detected that an edit performed by you may have introduced errors in referencing. It is as follows:..." And that is the message exactly. I have no idea what the error is! and no one to contact for more clarity. Thank you. Susan Stix Fisher re:editing the Wikipedia page of my father, Thomas H. Stix
Thanks, Nyc2cents (talk) 00:33, 29 December 2016 (UTC)
- There was a large red error message reading "Cite error: There are <ref> tags on this page without content in them (see the help page)". It was right at the top of the page so very hard to miss. I have removed the stray tags. Eagleash (talk) 00:38, 29 December 2016 (UTC)
How to keep others from editing Name
editThe person's name is incorrect. Everytime I correct the name, someone changes the name back to the incorrect name. How do I prevent this from happening? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Unclefrankinc (talk • contribs) 00:48, 29 December 2016 (UTC)
- Please clarify which page you are encountering difficulties with. The way to resolve a content dispute (which this seems to be) is to discuss it at the article talk-page or at the TP of the other editor involved. Eagleash (talk) 00:52, 29 December 2016 (UTC)
- This seems to be about Hill Harper. †dismas†|(talk) 01:01, 29 December 2016 (UTC)
- unclefrankinc, there is a reference for the name "Francis". This one specifically. If you have a better source to say his birth name is not Francis, please cite it and put your arguments for that source on the talk page, Talk:Hill Harper, where this content dispute discussion belongs. †dismas†|(talk) 01:06, 29 December 2016 (UTC)
- Just for a little background, @Unclefrankinc: Wikipedia articles are based on what can be verified in published sources. Editors' personal knowledge and experience are not verifiable, and do not carry any weight at all. So what you need in order to make that change "stick" is to provide reliable, independent sources to confirm it.--Gronk Oz (talk) 06:54, 29 December 2016 (UTC)

Trying to understand some odd swproxy.wmflabs.org behavior
editI was looking into the issue discussed at Wikipedia:Reference desk/Computing#swproxy.wmflabs.org gets indexed in Google when I encountered some odd behavior.
I have a user page at https://swproxy.wmflabs.org/wiki/User:Guy_Macon that appears to be a proxy for my normal userpage, but when I click on the talk tab or directly enter the URL https://swproxy.wmflabs.org/wiki/Talk:User:Guy%20Macon I see:
Talk:User:Guy Macon
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Error fetching body for Talk%3AUser%3AGuy%20Macon: 400
Categories: Disambiguation pages
Instead of what I expected (either my talk page or the normal page not found)
Clicking on the view source or view history tab gets me:
{"type":"https://mediawiki.org/wiki/HyperSwitch/errors/unknown_error","method":"get","uri":"/w/index.php"}
The log in /create account tabs go to the expected pages, but trying to actually log in or create an account lead to a file not found error.
Normally I wouldn't care what weird things swproxy.wmflabs.org does, but swproxy.wmflabs.org gets indexed by Google and a user could easily end up on a page that looks like Wikipedia but acts screwy. Where would be the best place to request that they deny access to search engines in robots.txt? --Guy Macon (talk) 14:44, 29 December 2016 (UTC)

Assistance in creating a new article
editHello all. I've posted a comment on Talk:Margaret Thatcher about why I believe a new article (namely Public image of Margaret Thatcher) needs to be created. Margaret Thatcher#Political impact is packed with excessive detail that could easily be moved to an article based on e.g. Public image of George W. Bush. I need experts on the subject to help contribute to this yet uncreated article, yet I'm not sure who to WP:CANVASS other than users that have already contributed at the talkpage. I have only received feedback from one user so far, but on the other hand I have contacted a couple of WikiProjects related to the subject also. In short, I want to create an article based on the public image of Mrs Thatcher and how divisive her reputation is in Britain and perhaps elsewhere, like Bush. Help in creating such an article would be very much appreciated indeed.--Nevé–selbert 15:40, 29 December 2016 (UTC)
- I replied on the article talk page you already have in progress. No need to have the discussion in two places. TiggerJay (talk) 23:43, 29 December 2016 (UTC)
Lamaze technique/Lamaze International Page
editGood afternoon,
I am the current membership associate for Lamaze International! I have been tasked with making sure that the Lamaze wikipedia pages are accurate. I was wondering who I can talk to about this as the "Lamaze technique" page as well as the "Lamaze International" page are both lacking some important details.
My email is xxxx and I look forward to working with you soon!

- Please take a look at (and share with your supervisor) our conflict of interest policy:
- Wikipedia:Conflict_of_interest
- The best practices are that you should list corrections and suggestions for improvement on the article talk page. In the case of highly trafficked pages, this may be enough, and other editors of the article will evaluate and take action. In the vast majority of articles, there may be too few editors following this particular article and the request can be brought to a broader group of editors by adding {{request edit}} (Including the curly braces) to the post.--S Philbrick(Talk) 17:31, 29 December 2016 (UTC)
Asking for a blacklisting modification - any way for it to be done in a prompt fashion?
editIt seems like the process for reviewing blacklist modification requests is somewhat lacking in admins attending to such requests, so how do I get help?
My issue concerns the site listed at [1]. I DO understand why it was blacklisted (it is a forum, and was being linked to MASSIVELY on mainspace, when it is not a reliable source per wikipedia rules), even though it is NOT a spam site. But I want the blacklisting modified so it only applies to mainspace, which would fully serve the intended purpose. Someone asked a question on the refdesk, and I wanted to post a link to a page on the site, but couldn't, even though it would be useful to them. How do I get this request attended to in a prompt manner? I don't mean to sound pushy, I understand you're all volunteers, it's just that it seems like the relevant area for reviewing requests for blacklist modifications and exceptions has suffered a degree of admin neglect. I am also hopeless at formatting such a request, and finding the relevant page, I am no wikipedia expert. Please forgive my frustration. Any advice or assistance? Eliyohub (talk) 18:56, 29 December 2016 (UTC)
- I went to WP:BLACKLIST and found the relevent page is here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MediaWiki_talk:Spam-blacklist#Proposed_removals. I see recent activity there, so I don't know why you say you can't get a prompt response. And yes, we are all volunteers, so please be patient. RudolfRed (talk) 19:11, 29 December 2016 (UTC)
- Thanks, figured it out now, the page link you gave and how to format my request (hopefully I got it right) much appreciated. Eliyohub (talk) 19:27, 29 December 2016 (UTC)
Submitting and article and creating reference list
editHi there
Can you please help with how I should submit an article for consideration? It is saved as a draft. Link - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:STAAH_Limited
Also, I could not figure out how a reference list is created for references. Can you please help? I have created it within the page text for now - no anchor links.
Many thanks Namrta — Preceding unsigned comment added by Namrtamalik (talk • contribs) 19:58, 29 December 2016 (UTC)
- Your edit here removed the refs section and the reflist template which automatically creates the list of references. You also removed the earlier review declinature notice and reviewer comments. You should probably reinstate those. Eagleash (talk) 20:06, 29 December 2016 (UTC)
Using Subscribed Software for Image Creation
editIf I have access to a software subscription, such as a database that allows users to create maps using the subscribed database and ArcGIS software, would I be able to upload those images to Wikipedia?
Thanks, 144.121.83.50 (talk) 21:01, 29 December 2016 (UTC)
- Hello, IP user. It depends entirely on the copyright status of those images. If the proprietors of the database claim copyright on the maps (or assert that they are copyright some third party, which is possible) then you cannot use the images in Wikipedia, unless they have licensed it in a way consistent with our Image use policy. If they state that the copyright in a map produced using their database will belong to the person who produces it (unlikely, I think, but possible) then you are the copyright holder, and you can choose to license it on the fly as you upload it to Wikimedia Commons. If there is no explicit statement about copyright, I think you have to assume that you do not hold it; but I am not sure. In that case, I suggest you ask at the Copyright Questions page. --ColinFine (talk) 22:54, 29 December 2016 (UTC)
Help
editIs there a way to open up many pages from a list without individually clicking on all of them. This would help save time in checking to see if Draft:List of San Francisco 49ers players is correct. WikiOriginal-9 (talk) 21:43, 29 December 2016 (UTC)
- What is your browser? There are extensions for some browsers. But I would suggest just opening them manually in new tabs. Try holding down Ctrl and click a link. Depending on your browser it may open the link in a new tab and load the page in the background while you remain on the same page and can do the same with other links. PrimeHunter (talk) 22:37, 29 December 2016 (UTC)
- Thanks for the ctrl tip. What are the extensions called. WikiOriginal-9 (talk) 23:04, 29 December 2016 (UTC)

Finding "my" XFDs that are still open
editIs there a simple way to find all the open deletion discussions that I have participated in, as proposer or as commenter? Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 21:55, 29 December 2016 (UTC)
- @Dodger67: It doesn't look like there are any AFDs that you have participated in that are still open. I'm looking at this. For me, the same page shows I have participated in one that is "Not closed yet". That only includes AFD though, not RFD or MFD or CFD or IFD or whatever other FD we have. ~ ONUnicorn(Talk|Contribs)problem solving 23:30, 29 December 2016 (UTC)
- Odd - I checked your contributions and it came up with Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Adam Parker, which the tool didn't find for you. But the tool found Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Komboni for me. ~ ONUnicorn(Talk|Contribs)problem solving 23:33, 29 December 2016 (UTC)
