It's already been done, see above. And David Biddulph might prefer you to spell his name correctly. Maproom (talk) 07:34, 3 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Many - if not most - of the citations on this site appear to be done badly. please check if you have the time. cheers 101.182.96.85 (talk) 04:01, 3 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I'm doing it... Eagleash (talk) 08:32, 3 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Done I've fixed all the 'ext link' or 'title' red error messages and tagged the DLs. Ref No1 went only to a homepage so rm'd and tagged. Some of the refs although not producing error messages aren't correctly written still though. On another note should this student rag be considered WP:RS.... see James Matthews above? Married Name

edit

Is there an assumption that married women in the western world, or even the Anglophone world, will use their husband's surname? I notice that the article Fearne Cotton calls her Fearne Wood in the first sentence of the lead, but I see no indication that she uses that form. Rojomoke (talk) 11:18, 3 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Rojomoke There shouldn't be that assumption, since many married women don't take their husband's name e.g Delia Smith (who's married to Michael Wynn-Jones) or Jessica Ennis-Hill (who added her husband's name to her name). Unless reliable sources refer to her as Fearne Wood, we shouldn't. Joseph2302 11:22, 3 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
And it looks like there's an archived comment about it. Still don't see any actual evidence that her surname is Wood though. Joseph2302 11:25, 3 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
The name used in a professional capacity need not be the same as someone's officially registered name. We do not know whether Smith or Ennis changed their names officially. It is not automatic that a married woman's name changes to that of her husband. See https://deedpolloffice.com/advice/woman-getting-married. Eagleash (talk) 11:37, 3 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
There was such an assumption at one time, long before Wikipedia or even the Internet existed; but it is outdated. Unless we have a solid reliable source stating that the subject changed here name, we should never say anything about a name change subsequent to a marriage (or divorce), especially in the case of a BLP. --Orange Mike | Talk 11:55, 3 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, didn't notice the TP archive. If she said she's using Wood personally, I'll leave it as is, despite there being no RS. Rojomoke (talk) 16:37, 3 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hello there, wondering why my items; (Documents, Pictures) were encrypted by this site, can they be decrypted by one of the agents if any. Need my items back. Paul216.126.250.33 (talk) 13:04, 3 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there. You're probably (or definitely) mistaken... Wikipedia has no method of doing the things you're alluding to. Would you be perhaps referring to an article of yours that got deleted? Lourdes 14:12, 3 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Looks like you might be referring to a CryptoLocker-type infection? I'm afraid Wikipedia can't help you there - https://www.nomoreransom.org/ may be able to help you -- samtar talk or stalk 14:19, 3 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Publisher?

Who should be cited as publisher when source states: LEONARD MALTIN CLASSIC MOVIE GUIDE, COPYRIGHT 2005, 2010. USED BY ARRANGEMENT WITH PENGUIN GROUP (USA) INC. ... TM & © 2016 Turner Classic Movies, Inc. A Time Warner company. All Rights Reserved.? 2606:A000:4C0C:E200:900B:115B:5EAE:B6F9 (talk) 16:09, 3 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Update: after reading site's 'Terms of use', decided to go with TCM Interactive Group; let me know if otherwise would be better. 2606:A000:4C0C:E200:900B:115B:5EAE:B6F9 (talk) 16:27, 3 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I'm assuming the source is a book, if so this is an occasion when a website such as amazon.com is useful. If you can find the exact edition on Amazon, the page will have the complete bibliographic details. Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 16:32, 3 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
The source (and pending citation) is:  "Marie Antoinette (1938) - Full Credits - TCM.com". Turner Classic Movies. TCM Interactive Group.
2606:A000:4C0C:E200:900B:115B:5EAE:B6F9 (talk) 16:38, 3 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
In that case use "website=tcm.com" instead of the publisher parameter. Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 16:48, 3 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I used 'autofill' which put "website=Turner Classic Movies"; in this case, would leaving publisher parameter blank be best practice? More generally, when the source you are using cites another source for the info you are referencing, which source should you use (as best practice)? 2606:A000:4C0C:E200:900B:115B:5EAE:B6F9 (talk) 17:56, 3 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
You could use the "via=" parameter for this situation. For example: This would indicate that the publisher was Penguin Group, but the content was found on tcm.com, who are merely reprinting the content under a license. Using citation is sometimes easier than a specific template, like cite web or cite book, because it avoids the problem of having to decide which is the most appropriate. I am trying to add another reference, but I cannot figure out how to do that. It is a part of my, Margaret Ellen Mayo Tolbert, page.
It isn't your page. It is Wikipedia's article about you. Read the conflict of interest policy. Please add your requested edits to the article talk page, Talk: Margaret E. M. Tolbert, rather than editing the article directly. Robert McClenon (talk) 19:39, 3 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I think you're being a little brusque. Saying "my page" may be politically incorrect on Wikipedia, but it's easier than saying "Wikipedia's page on me". There's also no prohibition against editing your own biography, and it's not the end of the world if a COI editor adds a citation. That's the sort of request that would be a waste of time to post on a talk page. The list of jobs, yeah, that would be best discussed on a talk page, but I don't care that much if it's included. I think I fixed the referencing issue. NinjaRobotPirate (talk) 23:27, 3 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
In the meantime, I have removed some stray ref tags and fixed a bare url. Eagleash (talk) 19:48, 3 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Lowercase Article Name on Category Page?

edit

Hi there,

I was wondering if there is a way to edit the category page "https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Mobile_phones_introduced_in_2016" so that the iPhone SE is correctly listed as "iPhone SE" and not "IPhone SE" like it is righ now. I have read this "https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Naming_conventions_(technical_restrictions)#Lowercase_first_letter" and understand that lowercase first letters in URLs are not possible, but I was wondering if the "lowercase title" operator could be used on category pages for just one of the links just like it is used on the aricle page itself.

Thanks, Nomisn98 (talk) 23:47, 3 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Nomisn98: No, that is not possible, unfortunately. Pppery (talk) 23:52, 3 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Nomisn98. Unfortunately that is not possible as categories are added to article (by adding the code to the bottom) rather than articles to categories; thus it is not possible to manually edit the display of a title in a category without actually changing that article's title. Doing this would make finding the article harder for readers. However, due to a technical trick you may notice that the title iPhone SE displays correctly on that page, which is all that matters. Categories are more for internal maintenance than anything else so slightly misformatting a title in a category is not a huge issue. Intelligentsium 23:58, 3 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Ok. Thank you for your quick responses. I wasn't aware of the fact that category pages do not follow the editing rules of a regular article but rather are a different kind of thing. But if thats the case, the uppercase title probably really won't hurt anyone ;) Nomisn98 (talk) 00:05, 4 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
