editBlank World Map w/ Individual US States?
editI'm looking for a editable map (like this one https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:BlankMap-World6.svg) but with the ability to highlight individual US states instead of the US as a whole. Certain articles like Legality of cannabis have such maps, but they are set PNG images rather than editable SVG files. Individual Canadian territories would be helpful too, though not strictly necessary. -00:27, 5 February 2017 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by AnonWikiEditor (talk • contribs)
- Look around the categories on Commons. I found File:Blank world map with US states borders.svg. Rmhermen (talk) 00:38, 5 February 2017 (UTC)
- I did see that one. I should add/clarify that I'm looking for one where I can easily make changes by finding the country names in the SVG code. -AnonWikiEditor (talk) 01:10, 5 February 2017 (UTC)
- Does the map here do what you want? Maproom (talk) 08:50, 5 February 2017 (UTC)
- I'm looking for a world map that features editable individual US states, not just a US map. Like this one (except the source for that map is PNG rather than an editable SVG). -AnonWikiEditor (talk) 09:08, 6 February 2017 (UTC)

Reference
editwhat type of references i can provide? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Malikriazqasim (talk • contribs) 09:26, 5 February 2017 (UTC)
- The only requirement to add references on Wikipedia is that they are published, i.e. its authors wished it to be distributed. It can be very hard to find: for instance, an out-of-print book, a scientific paper behind a paywall, an entry in a database that costs a lot to access, etc.
- However, there are additional restrictions. Each assertion should be supported by a reliable source independent of the subject, unless the claim is not controversial or disputed (for instance, sales of company X could usually be sourced to the financial report of company X; however, in the context of the Enron scandal, company sources cannot be taken at face value).
- Moreover, every Wikipedia article should demonstrate the notability of the topic by a reference to multiples sources that at the same time are reliable, independent of the subject, and deal with the subject in detail. See WP:GNG. TigraanClick here to contact me 12:14, 5 February 2017 (UTC)
- Malikriazqasim, if you're just beginning, please read "Your First Article". In short, the requirement is that references (or "sources") must be well-established and authoritative, like books, magazines, newspapers and journals, either physical or online. Things like blogs (usually), social media (Facebook, Twitter, etc.) and YouTube are not acceptable as sources. You can read more details at: "reliable sources". Also, take note that personal knowledge or personal experience cannot be used as references. Here are a couple of other pages where you can learn more about referencing for Wikipedia: "Verifiability" and "Citing Sources". DonFB (talk) 12:33, 5 February 2017 (UTC)
Savorêt dialect => deletion
editHi,
I need help for a proposal of deletion. Actually I'm not sure to have done things correctly.
The article is this one: Savorêt dialect.
The related article on WpFr was deleted yesterday after this discussion fr:Discussion:Savorêt/Suppression.
thanks a lot.
--Benoît Prieur (talk) 11:25, 5 February 2017 (UTC)
- @Benoît Prieur: (traduction française disponible sur demande)
- As it stands the article is correctly tagged for proposed deletion. Anyone can remove the PROD tag at anytime, otherwise it will be deleted without discussion next week.
- I think you were right not to send it to articles for deletion, where a full discussion would take place. Although decisions on the fr-wiki are not binding on en-wiki, it seems unlikely that someone on en-wiki would come up with a reliable source when the fr-wiki discussion concluded that this was probably a hoax. The more aggressive option of tagging it with a speedy deletion tag of "blatant hoax" would probably have been declined, as this is not a blatant hoax. TigraanClick here to contact me 12:05, 5 February 2017 (UTC)
- Ok. Understand :)
- I was wondering on this step you indicated me => "Anyone can remove the PROD tag at anytime, otherwise it will be deleted without discussion next week."
- It is clear now.
- Thanks a lot, --Benoît Prieur (talk) 12:25, 5 February 2017 (UTC)
publish my page
editHello, Several times I tried to publish my page on behalf of Samantha Sackler whenever refused by Wikipedia Can you tell me why? In order to solve the problem Thank you — Preceding unsigned comment added by 105.98.137.159 (talk) 12:50, 5 February 2017 (UTC)
- Please provide a link to the page or draft in question, the above is your only edit from the IP address shown. Please sign your posts on talk pages by typing four tildes (~~~~). Thank you. Eagleash (talk) 12:56, 5 February 2017 (UTC)
- The deletion log shows that Samantha Sackler has been deleted 3 times, firstly as an article created by a blocked user (User:MusicLover650) and the next two times as G11: Unambiguous advertising or promotion. An explanation of some of the deletions (and of the deletion of Template:Samantha Sackler) can be seen at User talk:Frd15. The draft at User:Frd15/sandbox is not properly refernced, see Help:Referencing for beginners. As you say you are editing on behalf of the subject you need to read about conflict of interest and about paid editing, and if you are the same editor as User:Earflaps you need to be aware that sockpuppetry is not permitted. --David Biddulph (talk) 13:22, 5 February 2017 (UTC)

troubled user?
editHi, does Wikipedia have a method or a place to report talk page posts from someone who seems troubled? A user at the reference desk keeps talking about self harm. 184.147.116.166 (talk) 14:56, 5 February 2017 (UTC)
- If you are talking about User:Futurist110's question at WP:RD#Is it legal in the U.S. (for you) to harm yourself in front of your child?, then I think you are misinterpreting them O Fortuna!...Imperatrix mundi. 15:03, 5 February 2017 (UTC)
I am not talking about a single post. My question is whether is there a wikipedia place to pass on concerns for evaluation by a professional? 184.147.116.166 (talk) 15:16, 5 February 2017 (UTC)
- Yes there is: Wikipedia:Responding to threats of harm – Finnusertop (talk ⋅ contribs) 15:17, 5 February 2017 (UTC)
- Yes indeed; and apologies for doubting you, 184.147.116.166- I see the same question has been raised WT:RD#Futurist110.27s_.22fears_of_fatherhood_questions.22_getting_worse elsewhere. O Fortuna!...Imperatrix mundi. 15:43, 5 February 2017 (UTC)
Thank you. I have sent the email. 184.147.116.166 (talk) 15:46, 5 February 2017 (UTC)
Title edit
editHow can I change the (edit) the title of my draft entry? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Eoawikiacc (talk • contribs) 15:27, 5 February 2017 (UTC)
- @Eoawikiacc: You can't actually change the title itself- you have to move the page to a page with the correct title. See WP:MV. Do you want to move Draft:The Examination Officers' Association to Draft:Examination Officers' Association? O Fortuna!...Imperatrix mundi. 15:44, 5 February 2017 (UTC)
- (edit conflict) Hello, page titles are changed by 'moving' them to a new location. This is done via the 'more' tab at the top of the page. However, this will not be available to you until your account is at least four days old and you have completed at least 10 valid edits. Assuming this is about Draft:The Examination Officers' Association, what would be your alternative title? For future reference please see WP:MV for information on moving a page. Please sign your posts on talk pages by typing four tildes (~~~~). Thank you. Eagleash (talk) 15:49, 5 February 2017 (UTC)
- Apart from your concerns over the title, I see that your draft seems to contain the content of an unrelated draft Draft:Charles Henry Augustus Lutyens before the start of the text relating to your own subject. You presumably need to remove that unrelated text. --David Biddulph (talk) 16:00, 5 February 2017 (UTC)
Communists Category
editHello, I am doing a project currently where I am creating Categories for Communists in the United States by state. When I am adding people to categories, should I do it by both from the state they are from and/or by country. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Cassini127 (talk • contribs) 16:40, 5 February 2017 (UTC)
- By country you mean USA? Does it make sense? Would this be overcategorizaton? Ruslik_Zero 19:24, 5 February 2017 (UTC)
- I would suggest just by state and then reference the country they are from next to the name - i.e. Missouri: Joe Blow (North Korea); I do not suggest undue weight for the page by categorizing each name into sections by State and then Country. IMHO Maineartists (talk) 20:33, 5 February 2017 (UTC)
By country I do mean the United States, by state it is considered a secondary level. To make this simple what I mean is by in most countries a provincial level. (Cass) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Cassini127 (talk • contribs) 21:00, 5 February 2017 (UTC)
- Hello, Cassini127. See Wikipedia:Categorization#Category tree organization for an explanation of how categories for a hierarchy. Your state categories should be defined as sub-categories of the country category, and then when you assign somebody to a state category they will automatically also belong to the country category. --Gronk Oz (talk) 06:58, 6 February 2017 (UTC)

Golden Valley Formation
editHello Wikipedians, Yesterday I created the article Golden Valley Formation but somehow it doesn't have the usual "Contents" box. I can't figure out how to fix that. What did I do wrong? Georgialh (talk) 19:06, 5 February 2017 (UTC)
- You've only got 2 sections, but you can still force a TOC, see WP:TOC. --David Biddulph (talk) 19:13, 5 February 2017 (UTC)
Thank you! Georgialh (talk) 21:39, 5 February 2017 (UTC)
