editPlease add the "template" Made in Chelsea at the bottom of this page with the other 2 templates - if that is all OK - which we believe it to be. Also, should ref number 11 have an ISBN number as it is the same ref as number 1. It is a book. Thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Srbernadette (talk • contribs)
- Note: The template has already been discussed at Talk:Spencer Matthews. I'm guessing that OP has forgotten that they already asked about this. †dismas†|(talk) 00:13, 9 May 2017 (UTC)
About Wikipedia page
editHello,
This is Srinivas ,new to wikipedia.I want to know how to create a wikipedia page for myself.can u please guide me?
Thanks and Regards Srinivas — Preceding unsigned comment added by SrinivasReddy (talk • contribs) 08:16, 9 May 2017 (UTC)
- See WP:My first article and WP:42. However, we do not like it when people write articles about themselves or subjects they have a conflict of interest with. Ian.thomson (talk)
- (edit conflict) Hi SrinivasReddy. If you mean an article about yourself, then the best guidance we can offer is "please don't". Wikipedia strongly discourages WP:autobiographies. If you think that you might be notable in the Wikipedia sense, which means that you have been written about extensively in independent WP:reliable sources, then you could request that an article be written at WP:Requested articles. If you just want to tell us something about yourself and how you intend to improve Wikipedia, then you are welcome to do this on your user page. Welcome to Wikipedia. Dbfirs 09:45, 9 May 2017 (UTC)

- 1) See WP:COPYVIO. You can't just copy text from a source onto Wikipedia, that's stealing.
- 2) See WP:My first article for information on how to write articles. Ian.thomson (talk) 09:37, 9 May 2017 (UTC)
Correction in the name Sri Madhopur as Shrimadhopur
editHello, I have edited the page of Sri Madhopur ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sri_Madhopur ) twice as Shrimadhopur but both time the action were reversed. I want to come in your kind notice that the town Sri Madhopur has official government name as Shrimadhopur in everywhere related to government offices. Sri Madhopur is wrong name and does not reflect the correct name. You can also query regarding this at your own level. i am the resident of Shrimadhopur town and I want to correct its name. Please edit it as Shrimadhopur. Thanks Ramesh Chandra Sharma — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ramesh33460 (talk • contribs) 09:51, 9 May 2017 (UTC)
- The reference in the article disagrees with you, and with the previous change of text to "Shri Madhopur". If you want to change the spelling you would need to provide references to published reliable sources to support the change. --David Biddulph (talk) 10:36, 9 May 2017 (UTC)
- Hello Ramesh33460, please note the way in which I have added the information you required to be added. You would necessarily need reliable sources to support such alternative name additions. Don't hesitate to write back for any further assistance. Lourdes 16:41, 9 May 2017 (UTC)
Use some pictures from another language wikipedia
editHi,
I did some "great" images and put them in article on italian wikipedia. I believe that they are better then old ones used in english wikipedia and others, so I thought to put those images also there. I tried everything: it:File:.........
- with 'IT'
- with 'Image' in place of 'File'
- with 'File' in the front of 'it'
- ...
I couldn't make it working. How to do that? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Don Piotr (talk • contribs) 10:37, 9 May 2017 (UTC)
- None of those will work. To use the images in English Wikipedia, the images must be uploaded to English Wikipedia, or (better) to Wikimedia Commons. Maproom (talk) 10:40, 9 May 2017 (UTC)
Scanned image quality
editGreetings, keepers of the eternal flame!
I'm hoping to use file:Maurice Grau 1849 1907 USA.png in an article (currently in draft). I think the image may be suffering from moiré or something similar, but I can't find a way to improve it with my ancient copy of Paint Shop Pro. Would anyone happen to have any suggestions about removing the interference pattern? Cheers, >MinorProphet (talk) 13:26, 9 May 2017 (UTC)
- Hello MinorProphet, I know this doesn't answer your question; but I believe you may find more appropriate responses to your query at Wikipedia:Reference desk/Computing. Might I request you to repost your query at the mentioned reference desk? Thanks (and sorry for not being able to resolve your query). Lourdes 01:10, 10 May 2017 (UTC)
- @MinorProphet: I would think the Graphics Lab is a better place to ask than Lourdes' suggestion of the refdesk. TigraanClick here to contact me 10:10, 10 May 2017 (UTC)
- I think I would have to second Tigraan's suggestion. The Graphics Lab workshops seem the most appropriate for your query. Thanks. Lourdes 15:37, 10 May 2017 (UTC)
- Thank you both for your helpful replies, I'll try over the road. Keep up the good work. >MinorProphet (talk) 21:07, 10 May 2017 (UTC)
Question about persistent changing of info
editHi there,
While monitoring Recent Changes, I found this edit by IP 73.28.172.74, which contained inaccurate information, so I reverted it after checking the sources in the article. I then took a look at the IP's contributions – it turns out they have been going to different articles about movie awards, changing the nominees' names so it is not immediately noticeable that the info added is false. Where is the best place to report this? Thanks! –FlyingAce✈talk 13:37, 9 May 2017 (UTC)
- WP:ANI, the Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents, since its not obvious vandalism (one has to do some research to determine if the edits are vandalism). (Wikipedia:Administrator intervention against vandalism would be another place to go, but recommended more for obvious vandalism such as writing in swear words and so forth). Herostratus (talk) 13:46, 9 May 2017 (UTC)
- Herostratus – Thank you! I have been reporting the obvious vandals to AIV, but was not sure what to do about this sneaky fellow. ;) –FlyingAce✈talk 13:57, 9 May 2017 (UTC)
- Right. I would recommending writing diffs and providing refs. For instance, something like (you can copy and past this if you like):
- Herostratus – Thank you! I have been reporting the obvious vandals to AIV, but was not sure what to do about this sneaky fellow. ;) –FlyingAce✈talk 13:57, 9 May 2017 (UTC)
- [http://www.imdb.com/event/ev0000133/2006 this ref] shows that the [[21st Critics' Choice Awards]] nominees were Inside Out, Anomalisa, The Good Dinosaur, The Peanuts Movie, and Shaun the Sheep Movie. But with [https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=21st_Critics%27_Choice_Awards&type=revision&diff=779530640&oldid=764371457 these edits] the editor replaced (just) "The Peanuts Movie" with "Minions". And she has a pattern of similar edits. I don't believe these are honest errors, the editor appears to engaging in subtle vandalism
- or something to that effect.Unfortunately the ref I used there was IMDb which is not considered a great ref. It's OK for a WP:ANI report if that's all you have. Also, ideally you will provide some more similar diffs and refs to establish the pattern, but don't worry about that right away. The single ref might be enough for the admin looking into it get on the trail. Unfortunately, with these kinds of introduction of subtle errors it can take a bit of time to sort out what's happening.
- Note that it says at WP:ANI that you have to paste {{subst:ANI-notice}} on the editor's talk page or otherwise notifiy them that they've been reported. It's not impossible that the editor is just confused somehow or working from a bad source and is not being bad on purpose, and they need a chance to reply.
- By the way, thank you for vigilance User:FlyingAce! Herostratus (talk) 14:27, 9 May 2017 (UTC)
- For the record, this is long term abuse and definitely no accident. -- zzuuzz (talk) 14:31, 9 May 2017 (UTC)
- Ohhhh, OK, thanks. Herostratus (talk) 14:39, 9 May 2017 (UTC)
- I've added a response to the question at ANI with some more IPs. ANI is indeed the appropriate venue as it's even more complicated than as complicated as it appears to be. -- zzuuzz (talk) 14:44, 9 May 2017 (UTC)
- Thank you both! I'll go back and see what other edits from this IP need to be fixed. –FlyingAce✈talk 15:37, 9 May 2017 (UTC)
- It's a pretty common form of vandalism for someone to go through and make subtle changes to a whole parcel of articles. They presumably think that if vandalism isn't vulgar, nobody will notice. ApLundell (talk) 18:23, 9 May 2017 (UTC)

Need help I forgot my password to my Fredia Gibbs wikipedia account
editHello there~ Hope all is well. Can you help us we are trying to upload a current picture on the Fredia Gibbs account and correct an edit? We are having difficulty loggning into her account, can you help us please? Here'a link: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fredia_Gibbs Thank you for your time and assistance. Cheetahmedia (talk) 17:24, 9 May 2017 (UTC)
- That is not a Wikipedia user account. That is a Wikipedia article. You don't log into it. You (and every other person on Earth) can just edit it. I'm afraid you have confused the two very distinct concepts. --Jayron32 17:47, 9 May 2017 (UTC)
- There is, however, a user account with the same name (apart from capitalisation), and it was that account which created the article. I have given some advice at User talk:Fredia gibbs. If you were the account holder and can't remember the password and if you don't have an email address linked to that account, that old account will have to be abandoned. --David Biddulph (talk) 18:01, 9 May 2017 (UTC)

User:Fredia gibbs Can you help me reset this account password? The old email address was hotmail and they no longer exist. Thanks! User:Fredia gibbs — Preceding unsigned comment added by Cheetahmedia (talk • contribs) 19:14, 9 May 2017 (UTC)
- Perhaps you didn't read what I said above: "If you were the account holder and can't remember the password and if you don't have an email address linked to that account, that old account will have to be abandoned." You'll see further advice at User talk:Cheetahmedia. --David Biddulph (talk) 20:08, 9 May 2017 (UTC)
how to insert "show"/"hide" in infoboxes
editHello again. This question was prompted by the infobox at GRASP55, but I am sure it applies elsewhere. In some parts of that infobox there is a "show" "button" (I'm a newbie. I don't know what it should be properly called.) Clicking it displays more info and a "hide" button. That's all cool. But, in that saame infobox, there is the section "RNA expression pattern" which has no show/hide buttons, but instead displays 3 panels with a link to an outside source for even more data. Considering that just that part of the infobox takes up more space than the entire text of the article, I think that there should be a "show' button to the right of the "RNA expression pattern" text to allow readers to see the data, but not automatically display the data. Does that make sense? If so, how can that be done? (Yes, I'm intending to upgrade the article with more images.) Thank you. JeanOhm (talk) 22:19, 9 May 2017 (UTC)
- Hi JeanOhm. I think the only way to do this is to make a request for the underlying template to be changed. Certainly the template's documentation is opaque. You might post to Template talk:Infobox gene, or maybe better yet, Module talk:Infobox gene which has more page watchers. Looking at the Lua module, I am guessing its added by a similar attribute to the one provided to create the Gene ontology section which has that option, probably the ":attr('class', 'collapsible collapsed')", but it's mostly Greek to me. (Side note: I am personally highly suspect of anything here that calls information automatically from a different project like Wikidata, and requires changes or corrections (or the reverting of vandalism) at that different project.) Best regards--Fuhghettaboutit (talk)
- Best not to use scrolling lists or collapsible sections to conceal content only in the article one time MOS:DONTHIDE. That said collapsible sections not collapsed in mobile view......that is now 50% of views.--Moxy (talk) 23:09, 9 May 2017 (UTC)
- @Moxy:Oh my! 50% mobile views! That makes me feel way older than just a few minutes ago! I just looked at an article that is mostly my work Vesicular transport adaptor protein. It looks great on a computer (I realize I may be biased), but really silly in mobile view. I invited several experienced editors to look at the article, and none of them brought up this issue of silliness on mobile view. Do you (or anybody else viewing this) know what the "culture" is among mobile viewers? Do mobile viewers just think "Oh well, this is still better than sitting at a desk" and accept the silliness, or does it discourage them from reading a poorly-organized article? It doesn't seem to me that there is a way to make articles look great on a desk and a mobile device. I certainly don't want to eliminate images just to make the presentation of text better on mobile devices. I'd appreciate any advice. Thank you. JeanOhm (talk) 02:59, 10 May 2017 (UTC)
- @JeanOhm: The computer/mobile split varies a lot by subject. Page view statistics in the history of Vesicular transport adaptor protein has a "Platform" selector where you can see computer or mobile views. Around 90% are computer. Pop culture topics can have a large mobile majority. PrimeHunter (talk) 23:45, 10 May 2017 (UTC)
- @PrimeHunter: THANK YOU! I don't feel as old as yesterday. I am perfectly comfortable admitting that I am not attuned to pop culture. JeanOhm (talk) 01:20, 11 May 2017 (UTC)
