Administrators

We're always supposed to include a deletion reason, regardless of the context. See WP:NAS/D; we get a dropdown with common deletion reasons (most or all speedy deletion criteria applicable to the type of page, plus several other reasons), and we can always pick "Other reason" and then write an explanation. PS, Jjjjjjdddddd, see MediaWiki:Deletereason-dropdown and click View Source. As I noted, it's filtered by namespace (that's the purpose of the #switch bit in the code), so you don't see P2: Portal without a substantial topic base as an option when you're deleting a talk page, for example. I've noticed several articles at WP:FAC with all references containing archive links, even those with links that aren't broken, e.g. Scarlett Johansson. My understanding is that archive links are just for links that don't work anymore but are archived on the Internet Archive. I'm curious if there's a reason for this, since it otherwise seems like an unnecessary increase of character count and makes it impossible to know at a glance whether the original link is broken. I bring up FAC since these articles would be under much more scrutiny and it apparently seems to pass muster. Tonystewart14 (talk) 04:01, 30 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Just guessing, since I don't do much with web citations (I almost always use print sources), but I suspect that it's a matter of preventing linkrot — as long as the Internet Archive doesn't die somehow, it doesn't matter whether the original link dies or stays alive, because you can just add the archive link and forget about it. Another issue is changing content: if a source says "ABC" today, and you cite it to say "ABC", and then tomorrow it changes to "DEF", someone might change your article to read "DEF" because they didn't notice that your citation preceded the change. By citing IA, we know that all changes (barring hoaxing by introducing something not in the source) will be dependent on the same version of the page unless they say otherwise. It is indeed to prevent link rot. The citations should all have |dead-url=no in them if the original link still works – it switches the formatting so that the title still links to the original website, and the archive link comes after. Dairy {talk} 22:26, 30 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Archiving Question

I finally have a working archive bot on my Talk: page, but it seems four of the oldest sections are not being archived. Any ideas why or how I can do it manually? Thank you. FULBERT (talk) 11:25, 30 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

You have archiving set to 15 days. They haven't ripened yet. Most of them will go a couple of days into November. - X201 (talk) 11:36, 30 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you X201. I specifically meant the Talkback and the Wikipedia Adventure sections; both of those are over a month old and have not been archived. Is there something that prevents them from being archived?
The one thing they have in common is no date stamp. The archive bot will search for that and not find it. So I presume it will then not bother archiving. I can do them for you if you like. - X201 (talk) 12:36, 30 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I've removed an unnecessary closing ref tag, that's not required if you're not using inline citations, but other than that it seems ok. Was that the issue you meant? Amsterdam and The Hague

On the mobile version of Wikipedia, not all of the pictures of the intro of the articles Amsterdam and The Hague are visible. Captions are then about things people do not see. Can someone fix it to have the same rendering on mobile than on laptop? Thank you.

Changing the font of pages

Hello. How do I change the font seen by anybody who visits a page? I have already seen it on the German Wikipedia, in which one editor has changed the font of all letters displayed on their user page, including the ones on userboxes. <span>...</span> has limited scope but a single <div>...</div> can cover a whole page. For example <div style="font-family:Cursive;"> at the start and </div> at the end. Some elements on a given page may set their own font which will override it but only for those elements. See Font family (HTML) for more fonts supported by many browsers. Printing font changes (from Calibri to Times)

For years it seems, I've had no issues with Wikipedia font view/print settings, both are set to render as Calibri.

Today, viewed pages are still correct (Calibri), as set under Menu > General > Fonts & Colors > Default font.

But now print (preview and render) give a page with what looks to be Times Roman--except the content
of the "Content" section, which shows in some sanserif (but not Calibri) font.

(Possibly related to Firefox's new "simplify page" option (?), which changes the layout,
but keeps the same [wrong] font.)

The issue appears on all Wikipedia pages I've looked at.

Deletion of previous version of uploaded image

We uploaded a new image: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Audrey_Tang_showing_a_SwellRT_sticker_in_her_tablet_at_MediaLab-Prado._Madrid,_Nov_2016.jpg However, the first version of the image (21:15, 30 October 2017) included accidentally part of the face of a person that did not express consent (and is not a public figure). That was corrected in the second version of the image (created 4 minutes later: 21:19, 30 October 2017). I would like to request the speedy deletion of the first version.
