Mass Merging of Articles

edit

I've been following the contributions of an anonymous IP user 2A02:C7D:B910:3D00:405E:421C:7EE3:112 for the past few minutes and noticed that this user has been merging many pages that have been proposed for merging, but those articles never had a conclusion reached on whether to merge or not (they were either discussed by only one user or had no discussion at all). My main question is, do all pages proposed for merging have to be merged after a discussion on their respective talk pages? I've already gone through WP:MERGE but I want to be sure before I undo the IP address's merges. Thanks, Rosalina2427 (talk to me) 06:32, 28 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I've not seen the IP's edits and probably wouldn't get time today to do so. If there has been no opposition to the merge (no discussion means no opposition), and if the IP's edits are not editorially incorrect, then I don't think there's any need to undo the IP's edits. Undo them only if you believe the merge has been undertaken incorrectly. Thanks, Lourdes 06:37, 28 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Great, thank you! Rosalina2427 (talk to me) 06:58, 28 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Question regarding the duration of Article publishing.

edit

Hello,

Recently, I have written an article on Powell Laboratories. I have already upload the document to wikipedia, Which name is "Powell Laboratories" but I can not find the article when I search the article in search engine.

Is there any duration of publishing after uploading a fresh content?

Regards, Dutta Som — Preceding unsigned comment added by Dutta Som (talkcontribs) 08:58, 28 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Dutta Som: Hello, the only other edit by your account is to your sandbox which contains the basis of a draft article. However, it is not suitable for inclusion in the encyclopedia as it stands. It has no references and contains promotional material as well as style anomalies. Some useful links have been left at your talk page and I would suggest you study those carefully and bring the page more into line with Wikipedia's requirements before attempting to move the page to draftspace or mainspace or submitting for review. If you have further questions please return here. Thanks. Eagleash (talk) 09:22, 28 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Ayansuman: Hello. Do you have a question? If you just want to make test edits, you may use the Sandbox. 331dot (talk) 09:06, 28 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Please confirm Resubmit of edited article

edit

Good morning. I was asked to step in and edit/improve an article written about my family, The Harris Family (Entertainers), following its rejection by a Wiki editor. I familiarized myself with the guidelines, edited the page, provided references and clicked on the RESUBMIT button - but it's not clear whether the Resubmit was transmitted for review.

Initially the page was created by username Jodimetal https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:The_Harris_Family_(Entertainers)

Please look and confirm that you received the edited page. I should disclose that I am a member of the Harris Family, and hope this conflict of interest is not a problem. Here is information on the page:

Submission declined on 19 March 2018 by Gene93k (talk). This submission is not adequately supported by reliable sources. Reliable sources are required so that information can be verified. If you need help with referencing, please see Referencing for beginners and Citing sources. • If you would like to continue working on the submission, click on the "Edit" tab at the top of the window. • If you have not resolved the issues listed above, your draft will be declined again and potentially deleted. • If you require extra help, please ask at the Articles for creation help desk or at Wikipedia's live help channel.

Thanks so very much for your help. Walter Michael Harris Seattle, WA, USA — Preceding unsigned comment added by Wmichaelharris (talkcontribs) 15:50, 28 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Wmichaelharris Greetings. First of all you would have conflict of interest (COI) if you edit on the page Draft:The Harris Family (Entertainers) page as you are related to subject. Wikipedia strongly recommend editor (you) as such not to edit the page for it is very difficult for most people write in neutral point of view when they are related to the subject. You need to disclose you COI in (1) on your user page and (2) on the article talk page. Please follow the instruction in your talk page which I have placed. Secondly, the draft has been rejected one time and currently it has not been improved or submit for review. The page need a lot of rework especially on the inline citation. Do note content needs to support by independent, reliable secondary source and the subject needs to be notable - See here the definition of notability, source types and examples here for your reference - see message on "Request on 15:31:34, 22 June 2018 for assistance on AfC submission by SazidKabir". I do suggest you to red WP:Your First Article and referencing for beginners for there have lots of info and instructions to help you on writing an article and citing in Wikipedia. Since this is related to Article for Creation topics, you might want to place your question next time on Article for Creation help desk. Let me know if anything else I could help. Cheers. CASSIOPEIA(talk) 16:12, 28 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks CASSIOPEIA for your prompt and very helpful reply. I hope I have followed your instructions properly, and certainly will make full use of the resources you identified as I work my way up the learning curve. Although challenging at times, I am finding it exciting to learn about how to write for and use Wikipedia. You editors are so responsive and helpful. I was able to figure out how to re-submit the article that I have spent much time on since March, and I welcome any further input you may have based on the new draft. Thanks again!Wmichaelharris (talk) 18:08, 28 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Is there a way to compare two wikipedias, and find which articles exist in one but are missing in the other? Temerarius (talk) 16:47, 28 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

If you have some specific articles in mind, you can always use Wikidata:. Ruslik_Zero 17:03, 28 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Why does this User Box about Shakespeare not work?

edit

Why does this User Box about Shakespeare not work?

The code is:

{{User:UBX/User playread|7}}

The User Box displayed is:

This user has read 7 of William Shakespeare's plays.

If working correctly -- which it did, in the recent past -- the box should display: "This user has read 7 of William Shakespeare's plays."

What am I doing wrong? Or: what changed, in the code, that makes it no longer work correctly?

I found this User Box at this page: Wikipedia:Userboxes/Media/Books#Theatrical plays, way at the bottom.

Thanks. Joseph A. Spadaro (talk) 17:06, 28 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Joseph A. Spadaro: Use the second parameter, e.g. {{User:UBX/User playread||7}}
displays as
This user has read ' of William Shakespeare's plays.

Great! Thanks! I am not exactly sure how User Boxes work. But, I just noticed that this page here (User:UBX/User playread) is also displaying incorrectly. Thanks. Joseph A. Spadaro (talk) 19:40, 28 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Joseph A. Spadaro: The userbox code was a huge mess. I have cleaned it up. You are the only user to actually use the second parameter. The first parameter was meaningless so I have changed it to use the first parameter for the count. Change your code back to doing that. PrimeHunter (talk) 22:49, 28 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@PrimeHunter: Great! Thanks for the help! Joseph A. Spadaro (talk) 03:16, 30 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Help starting an RfC?

edit

Hi, I'd like some assistance with starting and RfC.

Currently, another user and I are having a bit of a dispute on Pastirma and can't seem to find common ground. The page has long been a nationalist battleground (this can be seen in the history of the talk page) and has even ended up at ANI before because of this, and I'd like to start an RfC to get this all sorted out instead of taking it to a more... "combative" place like mediation or ANI, but I'm not quite sure how.

Could someone render me either assistance or instruction?

74.70.146.1 (talk) 18:36, 28 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I already filed for this at dispute resolution. The editor is restoring SPS, I'm not sure if it is unfamiliarity with the policy on WP:SPS, but we don't use SPS here unless written by very well established experts - I'm concerned with whether the content in the article is reliably sourced and accurate. I've left Armenian origins of foods/etymologies in other articles where I was able to find RS to support it, and I've left it in attributed even where it was a low-cite paper and I could have justified a removal. I significantly expanded Armenian cuisine. I don't see these articles as a battleground, but I am concerned about introducing inaccurate information to articles for POV reasons. In this case, I had to remove the content, because I wasn't able to find any sources other than this one SPS. I spent hours combing through multiple databases. The only dispute is that the content is not reliably sourced. All the editor needs to do if he wants the content in the article is to produce a reliable source supporting inclusion. Infobox sportsperson

edit

I added an Infobox sportsperson to Deakin Volz here but it does not resolve and I am baffled why it does not. I can't see anything format wise I deleted in customizing the infobox for this article. Trackinfo (talk) 21:10, 28 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Your problem was that in the pb parameter you had unmatched "}}" characters which closed the infobox. --David Biddulph (talk) 21:32, 28 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Stupid me, I use that template all the time. Thank you for your help. Trackinfo (talk) 23:46, 28 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

New article not showing up on Google

edit

Hi, a new article that I've edited isn't showing up on Google. Please could I have some help in fixing this? Thanks — Preceding unsigned comment added by Elizamontagu00 (talkcontribs) 21:11, 28 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Just to add, the article is Lady Euphemia Sinclair — Preceding unsigned comment added by Elizamontagu00 (talkcontribs) 21:14, 28 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Elizamontagu00: Hello, new pages will not be indexed by Google etc. for 90 days or until they have been reviewed, whichever is the shorter period. Noted, placing, by yourself, of acceptance notices on your talk page? Eagleash (talk) 21:22, 28 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Ah okay, sorry I don't quite understand your question? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Elizamontagu00 (talkcontribs) 21:28, 28 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Elizamontagu00: Ah, sorry, the acceptance notices were placed at User talk:Natcavendish10 (who created the page). These notices would habitually be placed at the creator's talk page by the AfC participant who accepted the article. Please remember to sign your posts on talk pages by typing four tildes (~~~~). Thank you. Eagleash (talk) 21:56, 28 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Note also that the acceptance notices were malformatted. --David Biddulph (talk) 03:16, 29 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Okay thanks so much for your help!! Last thing, how do I know if the article has been reviewed? Is there any chance you could do it? Thank you so much! Elizamontagu00 (talk) 08:46, 29 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
