List of Authors

edit

Please, How can I integrate your list of Moroccan authors. I wrote romans among them : Jeunesse Spoliée Colette au Pays des Maures Les Larmes du Rêve, etc.

Mohammed Essaadi02:12, 27 September 2018 (UTC)41.250.194.245 (talk)m

You appear to be the author of several published books. If you are asking you you can integrate content from Wikipedia into a book, then please look at our copyright license, which is at WP:CC BY-SA. Basically, you may copy the content for any purpose, as long as you attribute it to Wikipedia. Please read Wikipedia:Reusing Wikipedia content for an explanation. -Arch dude (talk) 03:45, 27 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Hello Mohammed Essaadi, if your query is: "How can I be included into the List of Moroccan writers?", I can do the same myself; however, I need at least a couple of reviews of any of your book(s) in reliable sources before I do that. I can't find any English language sources. If you have any book reviews in either English language or any other language, please do share and I'll include your name in the list. Thanks, Lourdes 05:43, 27 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Is it appropriate to change topic of page?

edit

I came upon a coi edit request to change the topic of an article, to which I declined, suggesting instead to request a new article or to include the new topic as a section in the current article. I don't remember having seen a similar case before. Is it appropriate to change the topic of the page in Foursquare from the app to the company? Are there policies or guidelines that provide guidance on said action? Thinker78 (talk) 06:50, 27 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

  • This is best taken up on the talk page of the article; as it already has, and I see other editors participating there too. In my opinion, we could have articles for both the company and the app; however, go by the consensus that emerges on that page. Thanks, Lourdes 10:32, 27 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Trouble contacting user regarding an error

edit

I am trying to contact the user JzG regarding an error with an article they deleted. When I try to contact them using the suggested guidelines, I receive this error:

"This talk page is protected, you don't have permission to add topics to it."

Could I ask what the best way to reach out to resolve the issue would be? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Welshwizarding (talkcontribs) 07:40, 27 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Unable to upload create a Wiki page for our K-12 School

edit

Hi,

I head a K-12 School in Chennai, India. We have been trying to create a wiki page for our school but everytime we upload our content it's being declined. Help us create a wiki page for our school properly.

Thanks & Regards — Preceding unsigned comment added by 103.219.206.194 (talk) 07:43, 27 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Please understand that any Wikipedia article("wiki page") would be about your school, not for your school. This is an encyclopedia, and not merely a forum for you to tell the world about your school. Without knowing what the name of the article or draft is that is being declined, it is harder to help you, but your school needs to be written about with significant coverage in independent reliable sources in order to merit an article. As the head of the school, you have what is called a conflict of interest and a paid editing relationship, and as such you should not be the one to write about your school. Please review those links as you will need to comply with those policies(the latter one is mandatory). 331dot (talk) 08:44, 27 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Jenk Oz- Wikipedia Page Submission

edit

Hi, Hope you are well.

I simply wanted to follow up on the submission several months ago on behalf of Jenk Oz from iCoolKid Ltd. How can I check on where the submission stands in the process.

Additionally, we have a lot more Press and Content to add, can we still do that at this point?

Thank you very much, Carmen Greco

You can simply return to the draft, Draft:Jenk Oz, to see its status. Remember to log in before posting. If you represent Jenk Oz, you will need to read WP:COI and WP:PAID.331dot (talk) 13:33, 27 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion of draft without expaned reason or mistake from Wikia site.

edit

Hi, Could someone restore the Draft: Nikolay Nikolaev Todorov ) that was erroneously beleted after an editor was misled by an external link to my Wikia user page. The editor here said that it was copyrighted, but actually I myself created a similar draft page in my Wikia site. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Brassmonger (talkcontribs) 13:32, 27 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Brassmonger:All published material is copyrighted, by law, whether or not there is a copyright notice. This includes your external web page. Since we do not have a simple mechanism to verify your identity, we must assume that we cannot allow a copy on Wikipedia. The simplest way for you to fix this is to add a compatible copyright license (e.g., CC_BY_SA to your external web page. -Arch dude (talk) 17:04, 27 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Arch dude, content on Wikia is under the same license as Wikipedia. GMGtalk 17:20, 27 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

But the page in this site also was created only by me, there is no copyright.User:Brassmonger --Brassmonger .Wal 17:30, 27 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, I was reacting only to the implication that there is no copyright. There is a copyright. There was supposedly no violation because the original author is free to copy the material, but we cannot know that because we have no simple way (and no desire) to verify the user's identity. The user (apparently) did not copy the material in accordance with its license, which requires attribution. The easiest cure is to attribute the source, since that source's license permits copying with attribution. Sorry to be so picky, we are trying very hard to adhere to the law, here. -Arch dude (talk) 19:37, 27 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Note also that the page here at Wikipedia is copyrighted. Every time you make any edit, you are agreeing to license your contribution under our copyright license, which is WP:CC BY-SA. Look at the text below the "publish changes" button that you click to submit an edit. -Arch dude (talk) 19:41, 27 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Hey Brassmonger. It looks like the deleting admin hasn't been online since I pinged him to this thread this morning. Long story short, if they are unresponsive, you will need to file a request at WP:DRV, explain that you wrote the content on wikia, and that the wikia content is published under a CC-BY-SA 3.0 license just like Wikipedia. Richard Ned Lebow wiki site

edit

I updated my wiki page in August, removing inaccurate information posted by someone else, and added an extensive account of my research and publications. This change was up for a couple of days and then removed and the site is now back where it was before my revision. Could this please be restored?

Many thanks. RNL — Preceding unsigned comment added by Nedlebow (talkcontribs) 14:13, 27 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hey Nedlebow. It looks like your additions were removed because they did not include any references. All content on Wikipedia, especially that concerning living persons, needs to include references to sources that meet Wikipedia's standards for reliability so that content can be verified by readers. Unsourced content of this type can and generally should be removed on sight.
Furthermore, you should generally not be making edits to your own biography, as this represent a clear conflict of interest. If there is information that needs to be updated, and you can provide sources for that information per above, then you should leave a comment on the article talk page for others to add. If you include {{Request edit}} along with your comment, it will be added to a list of requested edits to be answered by volunteers. GMGtalk 14:32, 27 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

How to adjust my view of Wikipedia?

edit

Hello, Would somebody please tell me how (or where to find the information for how) I can reduce the size of the text/view for which Wikipedia has been set on this computer? I would like to be able to see more of each "page". Thanks in advance! Nicholas — Preceding unsigned comment added by 173.206.206.223 (talk) 15:42, 27 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

On many computers, you can do this with ctrl--. Maproom (talk) 15:55, 27 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Maproom's answer above is a browser setting (instructions for Firefox, Chrome), which will change the size of every text on the page. That is probably the simplest way to do it. There is also a more complex Wikipedia-based solution, explained at Help:User style, that allows to change the relative size of different texts (as well as the color and font, if you so fancy), but it requires to be logged in and the setup requires a bit of CSS magic. TigraanClick here to contact me 16:52, 27 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
In many browsers, use Ctrl++ to zoom in, Ctrl+- to zoom out, and Ctrl+0 for default size. PrimeHunter (talk) 22:30, 27 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Editing

edit

Hello, my edits keep getting deleted every time I try to edit my client's page. Do you know why it's doing this? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 65.82.136.222 (talk) 17:28, 27 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hello and welcome to Wikipedia. As has already been explained to you, and your socks (Zinzisebunya, Jjspruiel) you are using Wikipedia for promotional purposes which is not allowed. You can make Wikipedia:Edit requests on the WP:talk page but they need to be neutrally worded and reliably source. HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 17:31, 27 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Furthermore, you removed (without explanation) sourced text, you inserted unsourced text, you removed templates, you removed categories, ... Is that enough to be going on with? --David Biddulph (talk) 17:34, 27 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Furthermore, you have a WP:Conflict of interest and need to declare your WP:Paid status. Please suggest any edits that you wish to make on the talk page of the article, and cite WP:Reliable sources. Dbfirs 17:36, 27 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Clay Faulkner House

edit

The information listed on the Clay Faulkner house page is largely incorrect. I work for the owners of Falcon Rest, Charlien and George McGlothin, and I was tasked with editing the page. After editing the page and correcting the information, it was immediately changed back to the stub that it was before. The information is half done and mostly not accurate, and it is not descriptive at all. The owners would like this page to be correct, at it is a tourist attraction in McMinnville, and the incorrect information on Wikipedia is misleading. For example; Falcon Rest is not, nor has it ever been, referred to as "Faulkner Rest." How do you go about making sure the information is correct without it being immediately changed back? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mrskindrataylor (talkcontribs) 18:29, 27 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I was one editor contributing there, and just posted at User talk:Mrskindrataylor, and then I looked at your contributions and see you posted here. Thank you for disclosing here that you have some connection to the topic, which I rather expected, and which is fine. It is fine also, User:Mrskindrataylor, for you to ask for help here. But I think we can work anything out in discussion about the article at Talk:Clay Faulkner House, which will stay with the article. Also I agree that I see no mention of "Faulkner Rest" in any source, and I don't see where that came from into the article, and I don't want it in either. And I do want for there to be more complete info and certainly not any incorrect info. Could you please join discussion at the article Talk page? I am not a regular Teahouse editor, it would be fine if a regular Teahouse editor would reply, too. --Doncram (talk) 19:22, 27 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, I see this is the Help desk, when I thought this was the wp:Teahouse, which is another place you can get help. --Doncram (talk) 20:29, 27 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Mrskindrataylor: I am the editor who removed the copyrighted information. I'll be happy to discuss that further with you if there are any questions but that's not my main reason for writing this post. I am familiar with Doncram's prolific contributions, and will emphasize that they are primarily involved with NRHP sites, so I don't think you could have a better person helping. I see that he has already helped straighten out one error you identified. I urge you to take his advice and open up a conversation on the article talk page where I'm sure he will be very helpful in improving the article.--S Philbrick(Talk) 20:04, 27 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Bookmarknav.js no longer working on my account

edit

I posted this bug report on the userpage of the script's creator last week. As they're not a very active user, can anyone else advise how to get this really useful tool active again on my account? Many thanks, Nick Moyes (talk) 19:07, 27 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Update: I have partly resolved this myself, having found that a javascript error in my common.js file was preventing this and one other tool from loading. Having move the import script commands higher up my common.js file, I have functionality again. I would still welcome assistance to understand what line 2: Uncaught TypeError: Cannot read property 'addPortletLink' of undefined actually means, and what I should do about it. WikiProject BOT Updater

edit

The following WikiProject BOT Updater located here tools.wmflabs.org/enwp10/cgi-bin/update.fcgi is rather slow at trying to display articles for certain WikiProjects if not all of them. Adamdaley (talk) 23:57, 27 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not a tool expert, but it appears that the tool in question is named "enwp10", and the way to report this problem is documented at How to report a bug. However, based on the slow responses I was getting while researching this, the problem may be with the entire tool server farm, and not with this specific tool. -Arch dude (talk) 01:40, 28 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Adamdaley:And here is a report on the same bug fixed 7 days ago by a manual restart of the server: [1]] -Arch dude (talk) 01:45, 28 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Arch dude Yes, it seemed to be down for around 2 or 3 days in the last week and it appeared to be fixed but now, it's not connecting for me in at least 2 ways of accessing it. Adamdaley (talk) 01:47, 28 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Adamdaley: We need to attract the attention of someone with PHAB access. Let's try @Nanonic: and @Timtempleton:, since they recently handled a PHAB question here. Or, you can create a login over there and reopen that bug. -Arch dude (talk) 02:31, 28 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • @Arch dude: - I was pinged but I'm not the right person. I don't know what PHAB means, and don't think I handled the question referenced above - I don't work with bots. I'd certainly be interested in creating an article or even a simple redirect for the acronym if it would help others. TimTempleton (talk) (cont) 18:23, 28 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Phabricator is WMF's bug reporting tool. --David Biddulph (talk) 18:39, 28 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Would it make sense to do a redirect for PHAB and Phab to Phabricator? I was told in the past to avoid cross namespace redirects, but it would help other editors understand the acronyms. TimTempleton (talk) (cont) 19:43, 28 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Things internal to Wikipedia can generally be found in the [[WP:]] namespace. Type "WP:phab" into the search box and it will suggest WP:Phabricator. --David Biddulph (talk) 19:50, 28 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Seems to be lagging again today. Adamdaley (talk) 04:54, 29 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
