editRe: [Ticket#2019031810001264]
editI am trying to get an answer to a question about rights to pictures. Here is the ticket number for the email communication I have had. Re: [Ticket#2019031810001264] If Mr. Billy Alsbrooks (man in picture) sent an email himself as owner of the pictures would that be sufficient enough to get his page approved? If so where does he send the email? I have not received a response in a while so thought maybe I could try here. Thank you for any help you can give me.Thomas Dawn (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 03:35, 10 April 2019 (UTC)
- @Thomas Dawn: The copyright for a picture belongs to the photographer, not the subject of the picture, so unless it was a selfie, such a statement will not suffice. Sorry, we don't write these silly laws, we just try to comply with them. How did you become the owner of (this copy of) this picture? Did you take the picture? If so, you own the copyright and you may license to us yourself. Otherwise, ask the photographer to licence it to us. This becomes an unholy mess if the photographer is deceased. -Arch dude (talk) 03:46, 10 April 2019 (UTC)
Using/Exporting/Importing "Module:Citation/CS1"
editMultiple issue problem
editI have improve this https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rashid_Askari. But its still showing ""This article has multiple issues. Please help improve it or discuss these issues on the talk page. (Learn how and when to remove these template messages) No issues specified. Please specify issues, or remove this template."""
I have added link, source.
How I can remove above message??
Thanks — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mehedi-iu (talk • contribs) 06:49, 10 April 2019 (UTC)
- Mehedi-iu Thank you for your work on the article about Rashid Askari. Since you had already removed the "cleanup tags" from within the
{{Multiple issues}}
banner, it no longer had any content so I have removed it. In my opinion you were right to remove these tags, which were placed in October 2013 when the article was new and looked like this. It has been greatly improved since then. - Any editor is entitled to remove cleanup tags if they or someone else has made the improvements called for, although they should be prepared to justify their action if questioned: Bhunacat10 (talk), 07:08, 10 April 2019 (UTC)
Potential copyvio at Be Careful What You Wish For (Archer novel)
editI'm pretty sure that a lot of the plot for Be Careful What You Wish For may well be a copyvio - certainly there are more than passing similarities to the summary on Audible[1], which I presume came form an official source of some kind.
At what point does text cease to be valid and become a copyvio? Chaheel Riens (talk) 11:16, 10 April 2019 (UTC)
- The relevant supplements should be WP:CLOP and WP:PLOTONLY. I can't see the audible link (geo-locked?), but it seems there is significant duplication of summaries from e.g., Amazon, and such a lengthy plot summary is kinda not that great anyway. I've listed the article at WP:COPYPROB and reverted the summary to a 2014 version. Alpha3031 (t • c) 13:34, 10 April 2019 (UTC)
- Thanks. I saw it just as I was heading out for the day, and knew I would ruminate upon it. It came up as a recommended listen on my Audible list, which is why I checked it out on Wiki, and as I'm in the UK I guess it will only allow UK netizens to see it. RE: Faith Goldy
editHi there,
Faith Goldy here. Since my page I restricted from editing, I'd ask you to please update my website because an outdated and incorrect one is used.
The correct website is www.FaithGoldy.com — Preceding unsigned comment added by 209.59.90.194 (talk) 15:29, 10 April 2019 (UTC)
- For future reference, the proper place to make this request is on Talk:Faith Goldy, using {{Request edit}} template. I'll go ahead and update the page now. ~ ONUnicorn(Talk|Contribs)problem solving 15:36, 10 April 2019 (UTC)
Photo deletion
editI uploaded a new/more recent photo to an article about a person and it was removed. Why? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ometzger71 (talk • contribs) 16:06, 10 April 2019 (UTC)
- Are you referring to the Keir Simmons article? Although you haven't added any images to the article, it appears that KEIR_HEADSHOT.jpg has been deleted for being a copyright violation - did you upload that? If so, then the reason is clear by the deletion: It's been judged non-free and a copyright issue. Also, in this edit you removed what seems to be a valid image, so I've undone it. If you feel differently, it's probably better to take it up on the Keir Simmons Talk page rather than here. Chaheel Riens (talk) 16:39, 10 April 2019 (UTC)
- @Ometzger71: Your account has never uploaded an image. What are you referring to? PrimeHunter (talk) 16:40, 10 April 2019 (UTC)
Yes i'm referring to the Keir Simmons page. It is the photo from his Facebook, additionally I have written permission from Keir himself to use the photo. How do I remedy this and stop having people delete this photo? Thank you! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ometzger71 (talk • contribs) 18:20, 10 April 2019 (UTC)
- Ometzger71, You said you have written permission from Keir to use the photo, but do you have written permission from the photographer to use the photo? Because that's who you need to get it from. Please take a look at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials for more information on how to document the permission and what it needs to include. ~ ONUnicorn(Talk|Contribs)problem solving 18:36, 10 April 2019 (UTC)
External links www.datemeinfo.blogspot.com
editHello,
Is it permitted to use external links in editing text? For example, the topic is related to dating and creates an external link https://datemeinfo.blogspot.com in the context of the topic?
The link is not for investment purposes but in the context of the topic.
Please reply.
Thank you... — Preceding unsigned comment added by Asimplegirl2U (talk • contribs) 16:54, 10 April 2019 (UTC)
- Asimplegirl2U, External links usually go in their own section at the bottom of the page. Blogs like the one you listed are not usually allowed unless they belong to the subject of the article. In the case of the article Dating, It would almost certainly not be allowed. Have a nice Day! WelpThatWorked (talk) 17:01, 10 April 2019 (UTC)
WelpThatWorked . Thank You Very Much For this quick and helpful answer. Wonderful service. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Asimplegirl2U (talk • contribs) 17:10, 10 April 2019 (UTC)
- More generally, Asimplegirl2U, please have a look at WP:External links. --ColinFine (talk) 17:54, 10 April 2019 (UTC)
