Publishing an article from draft

I have an article that I have prepared in draft and I have no idea how to get it posted on Wikipedia? Publishing just publishes a new version of the draft — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ironpop (talk • contribs) 00:15, 8 July 2019 (UTC)

@Ironpop: Yes, the lawyers made us change the name of that button to "publish", which is a term of copyright law that means that you placed it in a non-private place on the internet and it is therefore subject to copyright law. Real people think "publish" should mean "place into Wikipedia article space", but we didn't get a vote. Sorry. Now, about your draft: I think you need at least one additional "reliable source" (WP:RS) to establish notability (WP:N). You might also want to review WP:YFA to get pointers on formatting. Then, when you are ready, add the magic incantation {{subst:submit}} (with the curly braces) at the top of your draft. Someone will come along and move your draft into mainspace for you. Please provide a link to a Wikipedia page where you are noting any misinformation. I cannot see that Wikipedia has an article entitled 'Stephanie Twaddell'. Google can often display information in a way which implies it comes from Wikipedia, but that does not seem to apply here either. Aprizion page

Without seeing the article(not just page), it is difficult to say specifically, but Wikipedia is not for companies to tell about themselves. This is an encyclopedia where article subjects must be shown with independent reliable sources to meet Wikipedia's special definition of notability; specifically, that of a notable company. Not every company merits an article here, even within the same field. You also have what we call a conflict of interest and are a paid editor; you will need to review and comply with those policies if you haven't already. 331dot (talk) 01:23, 8 July 2019 (UTC)

(edit conflict) Hello, without seeing the page, (I cannot find an article by that name or in deletion logs) the likely reason is that it fails WP:NORG (see that page for more information) or that it is promotional in tone and / or content. Also, you should not be creating content about a subject with which you have a connection. See WP:COI and WP:PAID for more information in that respect.

The reason for deletion would typically be given in any deletion notice at the article or the creator's talk page. Eagleash (talk) 01:30, 8 July 2019 (UTC)

Cite an Instagram Story

If someone, like an actor, confirms their real name via an Instagram Story, how would I cite that? I have a screenshot of the post itself. --WTRiker (talk) 02:24, 8 July 2019 (UTC)

Instagram Stories are intrinsically ephemeral: they automatically expire after 24 hours (after which they are only visible to the uploader), unless saved as a "highlight" (source). So there is unlikely to be a permanent URL, and it is unlikely that any of WP:LINKROT's helpful advice would apply. As such, I would say that Instagram Stories are unlikely to ever be usable as sources in a Wikipedia article. If the person in question is well-known and the information is significant, however, it's likely to have been republished in a reliable source. – Arms & Hearts (talk) 20:03, 9 July 2019 (UTC)

Unuseful changes made to Ormiston Six Villages Academy Wiki page.

Hi, I believe someone has changed the details on the page Ormiston Six Villages Academy however it is not allowing me to revert the changes. I have removed the incorrect and unnecessary text that someone has added. Please can the page be returned back to before the 3rd July.

Nominate commons file for deletion

How do you nominate a commons file for deletion?

I'm pretty sure File:XPhotography Debra Hurford Brown © J.K. Rowling 2018.jpg has the incorrect licensing, but cannot see how to either prompt discussion, or nom for deletion (talk page notwithstanding). Chaheel Riens (talk) 09:19, 8 July 2019 (UTC)

@Chaheel Riens: - the file is on Commons as mentioned, but I have tagged the file as "No permission" for now. A Commons administrator will look into the situation in a week, and decide if the license information is credible and sufficient, or not. Unbalanced parentheses in Template:Harvard citation text

I noticed something strange in Homothetic transformation (current version Special:PermaLink/905307333, 08:36, 8 July 2019 UTC) – an inline citation in the lead section

<ref>{{harvtxt|Hadamard|p=145}}</ref>

renders in the Notes section as

1. ^ Hadamard, p. 145)

I'm not sure where did the single right paren came from, ecxept it is inserted with the whole ref by {{Harvard citation text}}, but it is certainly not correct here. Could templating magicians look at the issue? --CiaPan (talk) 09:27, 8 July 2019 (UTC)

Yeah, what Editor PrimeHunter said. For that article, it might be better to shift to {{harvp}}. Doing that will not give the unbalanced parentheses at Hadamard. Another fix, and probably a better fix, is to provide a better target for {{harvtxt}} where the target citation has all of the appropriate bibliographic detail that the other two citations in Homothetic transformation § References provide.

I have asked the editor who added the reference to specify a year of publication (User talk:Marc van Leeuwen#Homothety and Hadamard J, Lessons in Plane Geometry), but he is hardly active recently (approx. one edit per month), so I suppose it will need some time to get resolved. :)
A Google search reveals only one translation to English, so I'm quite sure we could safely put 2008 there, but ...WP:NORUSH – we better wait than err. --CiaPan (talk) 12:16, 8 July 2019 (UTC)

How do I get a diff for an editor's contributions to an article when there are over 500?

It's this[1] - I've got some concerns but without being able to see a diff I can only see the full current version[2] and the way it was before their first edit.[3] Which is ok I guees but I'd prefer a proper diff. Doug Weller talk 10:54, 8 July 2019 (UTC)

Something broke during an article move

Can someone fix whatever happened here:

The page history was at the undelete page. I have restored the revisions originating from the old name. Special:Log/Maury Markowitz shows the move was incorrectly made twice, each time deleting the existing version at the target. The first time a redirect with a brief history was deleted. The second time the just moved page history from the old name was deleted, while the only thing moved was the redirect left by the first move. PrimeHunter (talk) 12:44, 8 July 2019 (UTC)

Page on Tripedaliidae (cubomedusae).

I recently submitted an update reference to this page about a new species of cubomedusan that I described in 1988. The reference was successfully submitted but I received a series of messages from VChimpanzee that were totally unrelated to this entry. Why is this please? Is anything wrong with the entry - format? @Couteaufin: Please clarify. Your only edits from this account are two questions to this help desk. There are two messages from VChimpanzee at your talk page stating you have responses here. As you say they are not directly related to your edits. The page history at Box jellyfish (Wikipedia does not seem to have a page for 'Tripedaliidae (cubomedusae)') does not show edits from your account. At what page did you make the edits and what account did you use? Eagleash (talk) 22:49, 8 July 2019 (UTC)

@Couteaufin: I suspect that would be Tripedalia binata (Moore, 1988)? There is no article under that name, and it appears there never was any. Whatever you did, it did not stick. Try again :) I would suggest starting a draft at Draft:Tripedalia binata and then submitting it for review (button will be present) when it is ready. Updating birth year of live person // replacing photo ALEKS BERKOLDS

Please correct the birth year of ALEKS BERKOLDS to 1996.

(I have done this but it is not reflected.)

Also, this is a page devoted to a professional soccer player. Other members of his team have their team portrait on their Wikipedia page. Am I permitted post this team portrait even though I did not take it and do not own the copyright?

The portrait is found on the soundersfc.com website.

@Aberkolds: We sometimes allow copyrighted photos when the subject is deceased. Since you appear to be alive, a photographer (you, in this case) can take a new picture, to which you own the copyright, and submit it. BTW it's perfectly acceptable for you to make changes to this article to correct errors of fact, but please to not make other changes directly: see WP:AUTOBIOGRAPHY. -Arch dude (talk) 23:07, 8 July 2019 (UTC)
